Reviews for The Old Hall Inn

Review 1:A very traditional Country Inn(not many left). Very good bedroom ,full of character, but very comfortable beds. Very good Inn food in the evening and for Breakfast. Very friendly but efficient staff, well led by Neil (mine host). Altogether a real Dales experience.

Review 2:Our room was very small, a bit too small for a double.

Review 3:Lovely, cosy inn which offers very friendly service and great food. Excellent location for touring the dales.

Review 4:Paid extra for an upgrade and only a very small window stuck in a small corner of the room. Room very dark. Bathroom had doors hanging off and the water was brown. The bar on saturday night was full of young farmers drinking anything and everything ence very rowdy.

Review 5:Staff very friendly

Review 6:Great location in a picture postcard village, the Old Hall Inn didn't fall down on atmosphere. We enjoyed drinks by the log fire after a walk over the hills and the evening meal delivered taste and a degree of sophistication. The room was clean and comfortable if a little dark - the option of brighter central light would help us oldies! Would happily visit again.

Review 7:The poor/weak shower in-room 4

Review 8:The owner could not have been more welcoming or obliging. The evening meal was very good, breakfast excellent, room comfortable only let down by a dribble of a shower.

Review 9:Twin Room was quite small. Also the inside of the kettle in the room made it unusuable!

Review 10:All staff were excellent. Nothing too much trouble. In a beautiful location. Food was fantastic!

Review 11:On arrival the heating was off and the rooms felt very cold and humid. Our towels had to be changed because they felt wet. The worst part was the extremely strong cooking smell that could be felt upstairs on the rooms above the pub. Not great when you arrive from a clean air outside. It constantly felt like a roast meal smell which followed you into the inside of the rooms. In the morning this was not so bad but the afternoon/evening it was unbeareable. On arrival the boiler also broke so we had no hot water in the 1st evening/morning for a shower. The owners treated us to a free meal but when we asked to have it cooked without butter (dietary requirements) the food had little taste (the quality of the fish was good, just no taste).

Review 12:External appearance. Staff were nice. Breakfast was good.

Review 13:Room very cold on arrival . See previous message.

Review 14:Staff were excellent when we had a problem with the heating in our room and moved us to a superior room at no extra charge. Food excellent .

Review 15:We stayed in ground floor courtyard room, poor soundproofing from room above and washbasin in en-suite unusable owing to shelf directly above very small basin.

Review 16:Pleasant staff, room comfortable, food excellent and dog friendly

Review 17:One member of staff was not so helpful but all the others were lovely and very accommodating.

Review 18:Lovely clean and up to date room. Food was amazing and great selection of wine.

Review 19:The staff were not fully aware of meal times or of the surrounding area. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and asked directions to our daughter's location, to be told I do not know the area. Also there were no kitchen times for dinner in the room. On arrival back on Sunday evening we asked what time dinner was served until, told 9pm as usual. At 7.30 a member of staff knocked on our door to say the kitchen closed at 7.45!! Both of these occurrences were when the managers were not in attendance. I am not sure we would stay again or recommend. Meal times were rather chaotic.

Review 20:The food was excellent both breakfast and dinner

Review 21:Lack of outside light first night of stay made walking back to room difficult. This was rectified by following night.

Review 22:Friendly staff, excellent food and drink. Comfortable room. Great choice of menu, even Sunday evening.

Review 23:In the room we were given the bathroom and the lighting were poor and let this otherwise charming establishment down, but would not prevent us from returning.

Review 24:The location is excellent for exploring the dales and beyond, the staff are very welcoming and helpful, the food both breakfast and dinner were exceptional.

Review 25:No signal and wifi didn't work. The room was tiny for the amount we paid for 1 night stay. The rooms and the pictures on booking.com make it look much bigger

Review 26:Friend staff and lovely food

Review 27:We were very disappointed however with our room. The room would have been better classed as a single room as it was tiny & very cramped with hardly any space to move about in. It certainly was not of the standard of the rooms depicted on the website pictures & needed decorating & an upgrade. The en suite room was a joke. It was no bigger than a cupboard & the sink was unusable as it was too small to wash in. The room is number (7) & is located in the annexe at the side of the main building. This room should have been made available at a reduced rate & is not value for money.

Review 28:The location was excellent & the staff were friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal & breakfasts during our weekend stay.

Review 29:Didn't liked the cramped feel of the room (for the price paid it felt a bit 'tight' with the door not able to open fully - knocking the bed), and shower/toilet room was very small. Also, the room wasn't checked/cleaned on the Tuesday of our stay. On the other days, only the beds were made and tea etc replenished. With 2 staying, it seemed odd that only 1x teabag of each type supplied). Plus the shower/toilet didn't seem to have been checked - as the towels weren't change or tidied, nor the complimentary toiletries replenished.

Review 30:Liked the quiet location (except the cows - but what can you expect in the country!), and the gorgeous grilled 'Wharfedale' breakfasts. Beautiful flower garden in the courtyard. Bar/catering staff were very friendly, polite & helpful. Stayed mid-week, so the 'pub' was relatively quiet (although, as with most, the 'pub' was more like restaurant which happened to have a small drinking area)

Review 31:Very peaceful and quiet. In a small village but very handy for various sight seeing and lots of walks and public footpaths. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent as was the service, so good we ate in all 3 nights we stayed.

Review 32:The bedroom was tired. A cap was missing from the taps, the shower door didn't fit properly & the room needed redecorating.Whilst it is an old building, the floorboards needed securing to quiet the loud creaking noises

Review 33:Comfortable bar area. Friendly staff & sensible prices.

Review 34:Our room(7) was very short walk from Hotel. The bathroom was extremelysmall. Sink ridiculously minute & virtually unusable. Shower warmbut not hot. Fairly limited menu. No lamb!!! Steak expensive @ £22.50

Review 35:Pleasant bar . Welcoming staff. Room warm. Dining room very stylish.

Review 36:Cooking smell in bedroom. Noise from bar until after 11.00 pm, although this was only on Saturday night.

Review 37:Location. Food. Friendly staff. Flowers aroud the pub.

Review 38:That we were only there for 3 nights!

Review 39:The inn itself (accommodation and pub), the location, the great staff and the outstanding food. Just unbeatable.

Review 40:We enjoyed our stay, everybody was most helpful and pleasant, the food and beer in the evening was excellent.. Harry our Jack Russell was made most welcome., definitely recommend it to friends.

Review 41:No welcome ,or introduction by the owners on arrival ,or during stay ..Damp towels at night to dry with ,as you had to pay extra for clean towels ,and no where to dry them .Lack of shelf space in bathroom for toiletries .

Review 42:Location is very good ,staff were very good ,meals were good .

Review 43:Room a bit small and not up to the standard of others in area at that price. Wifi signal v poor and just reaches window if stand up by it. Not good signal in main building either. Showerhead broken. Tv aerial cable running over carpet. Ok but expensive for that standard. Would definitely go again if price better, say 80 rather than 100

Review 44:Lovely pub and great food

Review 45:Rather narrow staircase and fairly small room, decided the best plan fo action was to leave our suitcases in the car, and just take what we needed up to the room. Very inconvenient enormous key ring.

Review 46:Dinner was excellent, some of the best food I've had in the UK. Breakfast was good too. Loved the pub atmosphere, plenty of locals (and their dogs). Nice garden, and a lovely display of begonias, clearly someone's favourite. Our room was in 'the cottage', separate from the pub, so noise wasn't an issue. Loved the "Yorkshire" wallpaper.

Review 47:I cannot sleep under a duvet and had mad prior request with Booking .com for sheets and blankets, this did not happen and when pointed out to staff was told they would "root out" some sheets, a single duvet cover was delivered to the room. On further complaint the situation was rectified, but in a make do and mend way sheets too small and car rug!! Disappointing as we were staying 3 nights no improvement nor change of bed linen neither were toiletries topped up. If they could not accommodate my initial request then I should have been notified.

Review 48:Good food and pleasant bar staff

Review 49:Worried about not being able to exit the building during the early morning due to locked doors-no evidence of fire door

Review 50:The staff were excellent and very kind. The food was good and plentiful.

Review 51:The bedroom. The smallest bedroom and without doubt the smallest bathroom I have seen which made us feel that for room 7 we should of got it cheaper nothing like the pictures

Review 52:The staff and the food probably the best we had

Review 53:Nothing to dislike

Review 54:The Old Hall Inn is a rustic pub set in idyllic countryside. The food and service were very good. Room was spacious, warm, clean &comfortable.

Review 55:Bar staff on first night very offish. Rest of weekend they were great (different set) Bedroom wasn't as nice as it looked on the website. Lots of cut corners. But OK.

Review 56:Great location. Excellent food, brilliant breakfast. The bar is a real local and lively.

Review 57:Bedroom very dusty no trash taken out could not use the kettle full of lime scale room needs a lot of TLC

Review 58:Staff in the bar very friendly but again sorry could do with a good clean

Review 59:Very nice and very friendly people in a beautiful hotel. the food is excellent as well for diner as for the breakfast. We have enjoyed our stay enormously!

Review 60:None!!

Review 61:The atmosphere in the bar is friendly and comfortable.Service and food were second to none and our room was comfortable, warm and cosy with all facilities.

Review 62:Lack of healthy breakfast options eg fruit salad, fresh fruit ,grapefruit, something along those lines instead of yogurt each day

Review 63:Roaring log fire, welcoming.the food was extremely hearty and very good.limited vegetarian options though.

Review 64:Wifi connection was not always good. The shower was not very strong.

Review 65:We liked the wallpaper in the bedroom and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 66:The free wifi is not quite accessible in all rooms but not really a problem considering the overall stay

Review 67:The stay was brief but wonderful, the food and breakfast was great, welcoming staff and comfortable room. Beautiful surroundings.

Review 68:Wifi was hit and miss in rooms; menus on boards dotted around the dining area - we all agreed it was much nicer to sit and peruse a menu than to have to walk around the room finding the menu; but these were minor issues and didn't detract from a lovely break

Review 69:Food was excellent especially the breakfasts and the service quick and efficient; very relaxed atmosphere

Review 70:There wasn't anything we didn't like!

Review 71:The staff, accommodation, food were all excellent! The full English breakfast was the BEST I've ever had! We'll definitely stay there again!!

Review 72:The food is great both evening meal and breakfast, good selection of evening meals all home cooked and taste great. Nothing was too much bother, just ask.

Review 73:In the annexe room downstairs we could hear the people in the upstairs bedroom moving about, creaking floorboards etc. but this did not detract us from an excellent nights sleep.

Review 74:Breakfast and meals at the pub were excellent and the room was very clean and comfortable albeit a bit dark.

Review 75:Room was small, shower barely adequate and could hear the guests in the next room having their conversations. Getting to the room requires you to negotiate through the busy bar with bags, not what you expect.

Review 76:Good location ideally placed for quite stay in a Grassington. Food nice and presentation excellent. Room nicely decorated

Review 77:I had booked a Deleux king room and ended up in a double due to an admin error. This was resolved by contacting booking.com as the owners stated it was not their error. Booking.com however stated the admin of the site is completed by the accommodation chosen, so as the Deleux king room was not available I was offered free cancellation or £10 discount. As I still wanted the break I took the discount.

Review 78:The location is great for near by walks and its a pub with huge portions of food and reasonably priced drinks. The staff were generally friendly and it was an overall good experience taking into account the mess up of my booking. May return in future if we go to Yorkshire again.

Review 79:NOTHING

Review 80:Food was excellent and good value for money. The staff were very efficient and very friendly. The locals drinking in the hotel made us very welcome and included us in their conversations. The location was excellent for walking and touristy things.

Review 81:Leaving! Also, our friends' room was quite chilly as the heating didn't seem quite so effective in there.

Review 82:Great room, fabulous bath - perfect after long hikes, thoughtful and helpful staff, amazing food, log fire, very friendly community feel - were made to feel very welcome. Excellent location.

Review 83:The Old Hall is a lovely pub, set in a picturesque part f the country. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We were there on a very cold day/night watching our local rugby team play Wharfdale RFC we came back after the game to find the open fire lit, it was so cozy just sitting there having a few beers and having one of their extremely good meals, I'd recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be staying there next season.

Review 84:The shower facilities are hopelessly inadequate- a person of diminutive stature might find them adequate but no one else- the shower room would win an award for Britains smallest shower!!

Review 85:The food was first class, staff warm and friendly.

Review 86:Didn't like the small shower in our room and asked for two sirloins medium and got one and one ribeye well done. The waitress that served us also smelt heavily of smoke which wasn't pleasant for us being non smokers. Only had the bar open so couldn't eat in the restaurant which was a shame because it looked so lovely.

Review 87:Friendly warm country pub. Had a nice walk to the next village of grassingham.

Review 88:Small details slighty diminished our experience. For example, the heating didn't come on until 08.30 and the temperature outside was below zero. The Wi-Fi didn't work in our room the following morning (but it worked perfectly in the pub).

Review 89:The most outstanding aspect for us was the food and the general ambience. We had a wonderful dinner sitting by the fire. All the staff were lovely to us and the atmosphere was great.

Review 90:Would have liked to know dogs were welcome. Husband has allergies and could have taken antihistamines but didn't spoil our stay. Rooms looked a bit tired, attention to detail when cleaning (round taps, ceiling webs, shower edges etc).

Review 91:The bed was very comfortable. Food was excellent. Lovely open log fire in bar. Breakfast fantastic. Very welcoming.

Review 92:Kerb appeal of pub poor, unkempt hanging baskets, no external lighting at night made pub hard to find once light had gone. Our room, whilst recently decorated was not great, and ensuite, whilst clean and adequate was very tired.

Review 93:Real fire in bar, nice atmosphere. Good breakfast and tasty food in the evening. Good value B and B

Review 94:The bedroom very very small the en suite terrible my husband could not use the sink it was so low & absolutely freezing no heating in en suite

Review 95:The staff and very good food

Review 96:Lovely welcoming bar with a real roaring log fire, live music and a really interesting dinner menu with a good selection of locally sourced ingredients were on offer. A good selection of wine and real ales all served by the efficient staff. We stayed in room No2, as soon as we entered we were really impressed with the decor, the large 4 poster bed and the bathroom facilities. Everything was crisp and clean and lovely and warm. We ate in the bar that evening and we were both very happy with the service and more than delighted with the high standard of the food and it's presentation. All beautifully cooked and really tasty.

Review 97:The only downside was that visibility of/logging into the wifi was patchy - and given that we didn't have any reception in the area, a really strong connection would have been so handy. We did get it working in the end, and the staff were helpful when we brought it up.

Review 98:The Inn was really easy to find and our room was excellent - large, full of character and so comfy. The bathroom alone was larger than my London flat! The staff who showed us to our room were pleasant and friendly. The pub downstairs was busy and atmospheric without being noisy, and we couldn't hear it from our room.

Review 99:Having to leave !

Review 100:excellent mid week break for walking and exploring the dales. Food excellent staff friendly welcoming and helpful, room and bed extremely comfortable. Would visit again.

Review 101:stayed one night has a birthday treat away very pleased staff helpful and friendly , room comfy spotlessly clean excellent wifi, evening meal excellent varied menu, spoilt for choice,,not disapointed, very friendly attmosphere in pub ,,breakfast first class attention to detail with crockery was more than exspected better than 5star hotels we have stayed in..the locals go out off there way to speak to you has a seasoned traveller all over england, scotland, wales,,grassington by far the friendliest place have stayed , little gem in yorkshire, will return,,

Review 102:Booking.com confirmed the type of room we would have. The room choixw was not available to us - never quite understood why we were not allocated 'king size deluxe' on arrival. Staff suggested it was a problem with Bookings.Com. We would suggest calling the hotel directly. Some rooms are small with very small bathroom and this can be importanct to many people.

Review 103:Only a short distance from Grassington - easily walkable in about 30 minutes. Good parking for car. Staff were very helpful and made us welcome. Quiet location, but agree with other reviews about noise from early morning traffic, but it is not a major issue. Loved the open fire in the bar. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.

Review 104:Room didn't dislike it but you could hear people above would benefit from sound proofing people above nit noisy just normal moving about and walking shame as lvery nice place

Review 105:Location friendliness of staff nice open fire food

Review 106:Excellent food both for breakfast and dinner with generous helpings and courteous and attentive staff. We're planning another trip! Tradition pub atmosphere with friendly locals.

Review 107:Noise from early morning rush hour traffic, not the fault of hotel!

Review 108:Good comfortable location for the Dales, nice staff, good food, excellent choice at breakfast,& parking outside.

Review 109:nice welcome .lovely comfy bed with lots of cushions to help you to relax. very friendly staff good food, mega breakfast and hand pulled local beer.and the price was good 15 out of 10 from us.thanks.

Review 110:That we didn't get longer to stay here

Review 111:Staff, especially Emily ( i believe her name is) young lady, extremely helpful, knowledgable and friendly! Great asset to the hotel. Amazing rooms, great food and all round lovely Inn/bar. Definitely recommend staying here

Review 112:Room a little bit tired could hear next rooms toilet when in use

Review 113:Good location . food .staff very friendly

Review 119:Good location Friendly atmosphere.

Review 120:Good breakfasts and dinners. Room comfortable.

Review 121:The food was excellent and a friendly place.

Review 122:Room was ok but you couldn't swing a cat in en-suite, lighting could have been better in en-suite.

Review 123:Location, cosy and relaxing pub feel.

Review 124:A friendly and comfortable Inn/Hotel.Excellent evening meal.Highly reccomended

Review 125:Tiny bathroom

Review 126:Excellent food, comfy bed, nice cosy pub, good breakfast

Review 127:A little noisey early mornin as room above kitchen area.

Review 128:Comfortable bed. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast.

Review 129:Lovely spacious room. Good walkers pub with good food and lovely fire.

Review 130:Location and food really good
