Reviews for Black Swan Inn

Review 1:Wonderful facility for a slightly out of the way location. A particularly spectacular effort by the chef who managed to come up with an extensive Game Festival menu in spite of operating out a temporary kitchen outside following the fire some six weeks before. (My husband was in seventh heaven munching his way through both Rudolph AND a Partridge, presumably the one out of the pear tree).

Review 2:Our evening meal wasn't what I hoped, but considering everything else was perfect about the place, we probably set our expectations too high.

Review 3:The staff are fantastic, it's a beautiful area of the world and it's so relaxing. They also, very kindly, upgraded us for our wedding anniversary. The breakfast was excellent too

Review 4:The external temperature could have been a little higher - but we are talking Yorkshire Dales in mid October - couldnt fault the place

Review 5:Spacious luxurious room in annexe next to main building - very clean and comfortable. Considering the catering team were operating out of a temporary kitchen after the fire 6-7 weeks ago the food they produced was totally delicious! Good menu and accompanied by Theakstons Best - nectar!!

Review 6:The exterior of the Black Swan a bit off putting ,especially the fire chard right side of the building!

Review 7:The tasteful decor and design - very spacious. Loved the 'mews' style buildings at the rear.

Review 8:food very basic Thai chicken curry was made with gloopy jar sauce not fresh ingredients.thought breakfast was included in price. caravan park and tents on property.

Review 9:Easy to find. good quality room

Review 10:Green emergency light in bedroom, on all the time, too bright - somewhat disturbing. Coffee at breakfast poor. Only 30 mins free wi-fi seems mean. Sound insulation between bedrooms not good.

Review 11:Large room, well furnished and very clean. Beautiful location, extremely quiet. Ham and eggs at breakfast excellent.

Review 12:although could not alter the heating in the middle of the night heating can only be adjusted by reception and it was 2 am and too warm and the windows didnt open. Also the fan from the bathroom was noisy finally found the power switch at again 3 am to deactivate it!!

Review 13:Rooms very spacious and very clean. Food was delicious although basic choices

Review 14:The limited menu choice due to a kitchen fire prior to our booking which we were not made aware of at time of booking or even in the email sent prior to our break by the Black Swan.

Review 15:The room was very spacious with a large king size bed.

Review 16:Pub is dark and dingy, don't like the chamber pots hanging from the ceiling where we ate. Our room was right next to the front door, lots of noise from other guests and the plumbing!. We stopped here two months before and had much better stay, one of the things that drew us back was the excellent food unfortunately one this occasion they had just had a fire in the kitchen.

Review 17:Friendly staff. Large comfortable room.

Review 18:Not able to accommodate residents for an evening meal. didn't know if we should have booked previously for breakfast - so didn't have one. Staff not very helpful when booking in.

Review 19:Clean bedroom

Review 20:We were welcomed by the friendliest, most flexible staff I have encountered in a long time. The cleaners were happy to make up our room to fit in with our baby's morning naps, and the bar staff were able to accommodate us for an evening meal later than usual after coming back late from a wedding. The setup is ideal for putting a baby to bed, then having an evening meal in the beer garden right outside a front door which is not shared with other guests. Strongly recommended.

Review 21:Would have liked Fairtrade tea and coffee in the room but this is a small detail. Breakfast was good but our order wasn't quite right and there was only one poor lady serving all the tables - could have done with help from the manager who was doing paperwork behind the bar.

Review 22:Excellently presented bedroom and bathroom. We arrived late and the staff kept food for us after normal serving hours which was much appreciated.

Review 23:Wife found the bed a bit uncomfortable. Shower door opens enough for person of normal size but a large person would find it difficult.

Review 24:Location was ideal for an event at Masham but car a necessity as couple of miles out on country road. Plenty of parking but not necessarily outside the annexe as 12 rooms with spaces for 5 cars. Good evening meal and breakfast. Real Ale without having to think about driving. Good country view from the room. To be recommended.

Review 25:The bar it's self was not very comfortable. Hard back chairs and benches. Not very relaxing.

Review 26:Lovely rooms nice beds and good showers. Good location fabulous view.

Review 27:I don't agree with the additional charge for breakfast, this should be included in the cost of the room.

Review 28:The rooms were comfortable, spacious and had a lovely view, and the food was good.

Review 29:Would have liked more choice of vegetables with the meals. Peas seem to be served with everything. Apart from this the food was excellent, well cooked, nicely presented and there was plenty of it.

Review 30:Quiet, quality set in a beautiful context.

Review 31:The only problem was the shortage of drink mixers and choice of shorts. Otherwise no complaints at all.

Review 32:It was beautiful weather so the views were exceptional. The staff were really accommodating with requests and we will definitely go back.

Review 33:Food not very good and the pictures on their website gallery do not reflect what we experienced. Although the rooms were very good, they were not very well sound proofed. we had some loud and roundly people in the room above which kept us awake for much of the night.

Review 34:Bedroom functional and very clean. ideal for walkers.

Review 35:Snow .....but didn't blame the staff!

Review 36:Lovely setting, rooms outside back of pub/restaurant easily accessible as I have a disability with parking right outside. The staff were helpful and friendly

Review 37:I've got used to free wi-fi on my travels, this was limited to 30 mins, but that's a minor gripe.

Review 38:Staff were great, food was lovely, spacious clean room. There are walks of varying distances from the Black Swan, hence our 6 mile trek in bracing conditions. A lovely part of the world though.

Review 39:Room very noisy could hear the people above use bathroom tun light on open drawers and walk around . Room big but empty. Had to ask for heating to be turned up twice in room as they put lock on thermostat . No frills

Review 40:Some of the food

Review 41:Room temperature a little high and took a long time to cool down

Review 42:Great sized room, with good facilities nice rural location for walking. Nice evening meal and breakfast. With helpful staff, great value for money

Review 43:Couldn't control the temperature in the room, it was lovely and warm but during the early hours it became too warm, even with the window open. Can't fault the place otherwise, would definitely recommend!

Review 44:Lovely little spot, ideally placed to see the sights. The room was of a great standard, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. Food was excellent!

Review 45:The cooked breakfast wouldn't go a miss in a poor weather spoons! No moisture at all ( beans, tomatoes etc) No carbs ( no hash browns, toast, bread) and cheap sausage with undercooked bacon It would have been a great stay apart from the poor breakfast

Review 46:Really good location Excellent facilities Great staff Good choice of drinks Good selection for evening meal

Review 47:Whilst the rooms are modern and very comfortable, the pub feels a bit dated - particularly didn't like the hundred or so chamber pots used as decoration hanging above us in the restaurant Food was ok but a little more finesse wouldn't go amiss

Review 48:The beautiful setting and views The spacious and very comfortable bed The recommended walk that we took

Review 49:Staff were relatively distant and not over friendly or welcoming. bar area was a switch off and thought my booking was going to be a disaster. Fortunately rooms were very different.

Review 50:Room was large clean and modern. very quiet night, able to sleep with the window wide open, and no traffic noise.

Review 51:Breakfast not included in price of the room or subsidised (although there was a good selection of cereals, juice and freshly cooked Yorkshire breakfast)

Review 52:Very friendly and helpful staff Child-friendly (cot provided in the room free of charge, high chair offered, great choice and quality on the Children's menu) Great location (easy to travel to and find, beautiful countryside, close to many places of interest) Comfortable rooms (very clean, great amenities and attention to detail) Excellent restaurant menu (lots of choice, great food and value for money)

Review 53:Breakfast wasn't included in the price of an overnight stay. At £80 for the night to then have to pay an additional £8.95 per person for breakfast is a bit steep. On arrival the reception received was good but then appeared to decline, especially when we wouldn't commit to having breakfast the next day. Her overall appearance left a lot to be desired & speed of work & attentiveness poor.

Review 54:Room lovely, couldn't complain.

Review 55:The towel rail next to the toilet!

Review 56:The views. We had room 4 and had a fantastic view of the countryside. The food. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. The room. very comfortable.

Review 57:Good size room sensibly furnished and with hard floors , like that. All essentials there and worked lovely views and places to sit outside our room was at the rear of the pub in a purpose build building Ate in the pub good food lovely staff and good price Went for a run the next day again beautiful area Good location to stay for a few days if u have a caravan they have proper pitches too

Review 58:A 'two-tier' breakfast system would have been good - the full works for those that can, but a toast and tea option for those that can't face more. That's all.

Review 59:Well located for touring the Dales. Quiet, pub next door, restaurant good, breakfast good.

Review 60:Tourer caravan park is part of the overall provision of the Black Swan Inn but this is not made clear from the summary or photos.

Review 61:Room was huge (5), decor was good, seating and large window with lovely view across the dale. Food good in the pub.

Review 62:Advertises as masham in fact a dsitance to walk on narrow lane with speeding drivers. No good if your faint hearted or have kids. No extra pillows Shabby small towels Shower can set fire alarm off Hard to shut bathroom door Dirty gritty floor Searched for b&b on website had to pay for breakfast (not full price as complained staff had said it was included before we ate) details not clear. Breakfast was aneamic just needed a more cooking. Coffee was second rate. Pub is in need of update does not link with rooms shown on web site Would have complained if had to pay full price (advertised in pub £225) could have stayed in masham town at penthouse (brewery) for £200 Struggled to park initially Had to book evening meal Water extremely hot watch kids for scalding oh yes and adults

Review 63:Lovely room Comfortable bed Gave discount on breakfast Fab shower

Review 64:Right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales the Black Swan Inn is in a beautiful location in the tiny village of Fearby. Our classic room was perfect for our one night stay. We had our evening meal in the pub and it was delicious, as was breakfast the next morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 65:Priced a little higher than it is worth. 2 Bulbs were out, one in Bathroom over sink, one in bedroom (other 5 spotlights were okay) - so basic maintenance not dealt with. Bar did not stock most of the beers it said on web site.

Review 66:View from back of pub was nice. Breakfast was decent

Review 67:Bathroom skirting board very dusty. Bar area looked a bit tired. Breakfast wasn't included in room charge.

Review 68:Large spacious room with large comfy bed. Lovely views from outside our door. Enjoyed the location. Good range of less common meats on menu, zebra springbok and ostrich.

Review 69:Food average, room wasn't superior stayed in nicer large double for a lot less.

Review 70:Veiw from bedroom lovely. Hotel sold on grupon cheaper than what we paid so wouldn't pay full.food very average

Review 71:We were unfortunate to arrive on the beer festival where the hotel were having a live band. If we hadn't had our baby with us we would have joined in but the band were a bit loud for a 7month old.

Review 72:We loved the location of this hotel and everyone was very friendly. We were made to feel very welcome. The room was to a high standard. We would definitely go back.

Review 73:Acess to room (room 12) was outside the main inn. Also overlooked by outside beer garden/patio with people talking having drinks and mealsfromadjoining caravan/camping site

Review 74:Very good room with en-suite facilities.

Review 75:The place could have been cleaner. The gap between the bed and bedside cabinet was very dirty and the bath was dirty with other peoples hair in it.

Review 76:Fantastic views and lovely sized rooms.

Review 77:Limited free wifi (30 min)
