Reviews for Castle Hotel
Review 1:Dogs are fairly restricted in the hotel
Review 2:It was very festive over Xmas. Quaint old building and the staff were friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast. Perfect central location with easy parking.
Review 3:The caramelised onions on top of the burger, I had for dinner, did not go well with the over all dish. Ingot the impression it came from a chef that was experimenting with his food before serving it. Wasn't great.
Review 4:I loved the reception that we received from all the staff and the help we were offered. The room was stunning, along with the view of the castle.
Review 5:Nothing bad as such but the room was so hot and l was unable to turn the radiator down or off
Review 6:The food from the restaurant was amazing and far more than I could eat although my sons managed to clear their plates with no problems
Review 7:A built in price with meal option would help with value for money
Review 8:Staff were very good and keen to help. Bed was very comfy and big. Good quality shower
Review 9:Wow great hotel, the food here is OUTSTANDING! Planned to eat out each night but ended up eating breakfast, lunch and dinner here it was so good, Hotel is stunning, staff are genuinely friendly! 5 stars
Review 10:It is centrally placed and easy to find - important if you don't have a car. It is probably quite noisy at the front in the summer months but very quiet on a dark rainy November evening. Plenty of places to eat other than the hotel.
Review 11:There is nothing not to like !
Review 12:A really super hotel. Everything was outstanding : staff, food, comfort and the bar were all exceptional. The dinner was fabulous with the biggest and best bowl of mussels I have ever had. Brilliant !
Review 13:Gloomy decor in public areas ( understand it had only just been refurbished!)
Review 14:Great location. Food excellent especially breakfast. Room very nicely presented and comfortable bed.
Review 15:Excellent service, fabulous food. Location very good. The room large and opulent (we had a premium twin). A very popular hotel with guests and locals.
Review 16:The room was wonderful, but i feel a little expensive, i have stayed in some excellent hotels in the last 12 months on a par with the castle, the rooms have been equally as good but cheaper.
Review 17:The overall feel of the hotel was wonderful.
Review 18:If I'm being really fussy I would say the hairdryer was not great but that's being really picky.
Review 19:The people are very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is delicious and the new doggie grass area is just the ticket. We will be back.
Review 20:At 7.30 in the morning you could hear the banging of pots and pans, the staff talking loudly and singing to the noisy radio! Wasn't pleased at all!!
Review 21:The location was fantastic. We were there for the food festival so excellent location
Review 22:The hotel was central, room was lovely, clean and roomy. Staff were helpful and polite. The restaurant was really good, great choice, great food - Now we have found this place we definitely return.
Review 23:We have stayed at The Castle Hotel over many years and love Conway and the hotel is an amazing building.Dining Room needs an uplift.Get rid of the awfully dated wall paper and make more of those beautiful paintings!
Review 24:No lift, (but luggage taken up to the room by a member of staff).
Review 25:Comfortable room with street view. Wide-ranging menu. Good food for 2 dinners and one lunch
Review 26:We like to have coffee and tea brought right away at breakfast..or maybe you could have readily available as "help yourself" along with continental breakfast
Review 27:Brian was amazing and helpful and couteous, as was the owners son! Food was excellent and bar was cozy and comfortable! Great way to end buzy touring days!
Review 28:The beds were very uncomfortable A deluxe double is two single beds pushed together with a sown on zip attaching them. The room was very dark even with the lights on When laying on the bed you roll into the dip in the middle where the two beds have been pushed together Very dusty across the room paid £150 for one night....no breakfast was included. When paying for the bill I expressed my issues with the bed and said both our backs are hurting and it was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever stayed in and that there was a zip attaching the beds which made it even more uncomfortable. I also said that I do not feel it was worth £150. The staff replied with I'm sorry about that, that's how our beds are but I will get maintenance to have a look though. I then paid the extortionate £150 for the worst night ever with no further comments from the staff.
Review 29:That i couldnt stay longer on the hotel (we were just 1 night there!) :(
Review 30:The old man on the front desk was sooooo nice to us. Like a loving grandfather. He was absolutely polite. The room was so nice with a small Whirpool. Everything soo nice decorated (a little bit Harry Potter style). Lovely!!!!!!!!!
Review 31:Our room location was not very desirable; we felt as if we had been placed in the "dungeon"! It was very warm and we had to run a fan all night.
Review 32:The staff was extremely courteous. The food at the restaurant was outstanding.
Review 33:Our room's lights were not bright. It should have dimmed switches to make brighter.
Review 34:We liked the lovely bathroom in our room. It was nice to look at the antique furniture.
Review 35:The bl......church clock bonging every 1/4-1/2 and hour right outside our bedroom window.
Review 36:Attention to detail in the suite. Great breakfasts (extra $5. each) Beautiful town of Conwy.
Review 37:Misleading information from booking.com regarding Breakfast, was notincluded so we paid at the hotel. Car parking was a little difficult ontimes but not a problem
Review 38:Great Location, excellent food, stunning room (upgraded) free glass ofChampagne as it was our anniversary, would defiantly stay here again andhappy to recommend.
Review 39:on both occasions at breakfast, had to wait 20-25 mins before being offered coffee or order for cooked breakfast being taken, following being seated.
Review 40:location of hotel in town, carparking availability and efficient friendly reception
Review 41:That I didn't have more time to stay. I wish we had booked our whole trip to the UK at the Castke hotel.
Review 42:The location, view from our room and dinner was amazing. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. I look forward to our trip back.
Review 43:Perhaps the Suite was a little over the top in terms of decor for us but extremely comfortable
Review 44:Easy going atmosphere as enjoyed many times before Food choice and quality excellent Staff Relaxed and friendly
Review 45:room was noisey due to the room over the court yard people stayed outside until late unable to get to sleep until they had all gone home or to rooms Room was very warm
Review 46:Excellent breakfast and location lovely hotel
Review 47:stayed here quite a few times now, great central location and off road secure parking. Large comfy beds , real old world charm overall and a nice bar area, so full of character. Lovely rear courtyard covered in with seating area to enjoy a beer even if raining!
Review 48:Very helpful and welcoming staff. Our first room the wifi did not work, after telling the manager we were moved to a better room with good wifi reception the next day.
Review 49:The sorry state of the hanging baskets either side of the entrance lobby, better to take them down than let them slowly decay.
Review 50:Friendly service and very comfortable room - glad there was a bath and shower.
Review 51:I had room 120, first floor, hardly any WiFi reception unless you leaned up against the wall in a corner of the room. Do not book a room that is on the first floor facing the street, High Street, as rubbish is picked up at 6AM and the noise is incredible! For the price paid per room, not really up to the highest rating as many rooms have low lights, WiFi is sporadic and there is no lift.
Review 52:I needed to change my room the first night as the room was too dark, the front desk staff went out of their way to assist me. The coffee served is fantastic! and the menu at the bar and restaurant incredible!
Review 53:not a bad experience but a few minor irritations - I wrote these on the in house satisfaction survey but have had no indication that they have been noted.
Review 54:Convenient position in town centre
Review 55:Might have been our mistake, but two single beds (easily fixed by pushing them together when we needed to). Also stairs to carry bags up.
Review 56:It was right in the centre of Conwy. Historic building with parking out back, very friendly staff and a lot of atmosphere. Surprised for what we got for the price.
Review 57:Excellent attentive and helpful staff, well done. Spa treatments professional, all staff in hotel are very friendly and professional, main guy on reception is excellent.
Review 58:our room over looked the fire escape, which also meant we didn't dare leave the window open, unless we were in the room, for fear of loosing our belongings.....and the springs in the mattress made my side of the bed uncomfortable
Review 59:The Breakfast was really good, and the service was a credit to your staff
Review 60:The hotel is more expensive than we would normally pay for a room only rate.
Review 61:We liked the location of the hotel, which is in the centre of Conwy. We also thought it was very luxurious and comfortable.
Review 62:The staff at check-in and check-out was incredibly helpful getting my luggage up 2 flights of stairs and down again (plus getting it in and out of my car). I am somewhat disabled and this service really made a great difference. Thanks!
Review 63:Disappointed that breakfast wasn't included for the price and they couldn't play some music in the pub (especially because Welsh singers are so good)
Review 64:Great location
Review 65:Stayed several times. Old style elegance. Great food & cask beers. Attentive service. Car parking in a town where that is at a premium. Good value.
Review 66:1000's of birds all fights on the window ledge on our bedroom...kept us awake all night the worse nights sleep in my life.
Review 67:Was too sleepy to even try and enjoy the hotel
Review 68:Did not elect breakfast with room-only rate because it was overpriced.
Review 69:Amazing property with perfect location and superb facilities. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
Review 70:I thought the food prices were too steep so I went somewhere else for breakfast.
Review 71:Loved the location and interior décor was really pleasant. The staff were so friendly and helpful, a great asset.
Review 72:The Housekeeping was very poor---didn't get into the room until 4.30pm--and then found used drinking glass under a chair, and dirty towels in the bath room--eventually got replacements off reception staff, and took the glass down ourselves--may as well not have Housekeeping !! As the DM was busy, we left the above comments in their 'comments' box.
Review 73:The front-of-house Staff--including the Duty Manager and Bar staff, worked non-stop for all the Customers--they deserve a medal !!--it was very busy.
Review 74:Room was in need of a refurb. Tired. Apparently there are better rooms but we had a booking. Com reservation and presume we had a lesser room due to the online booking arrangements?? Room only £116! Average for the money but a nice hotel with quite a pub to meet at vibe. 7/10
Review 75:Friendly staff. Nice buzz and a popular place.
Review 76:Curtain ripped and linings stained / famp patches on bathroom ceiling and some mould on tiles gave a 'shabby' feeling to the room..Kitchen smells made it difficult to leave window open on a warm evening
Review 77:Good service. Pleasant staff. Quiet at night.
Review 78:I chose not to have breakfast as it was expensive but there are several alternative coffee shops around to choose from.
Review 79:The staff were exceptionally friendly, the hotel was full of beautiful furniture, art work and glass ware. The bedrooms were fabulous.
Review 80:Room too hot and stuffy as window didn't open. Breakfast not included in the rate of £138 per night so felt a bit overpriced.
Review 81:Room was lovely although quite ....bed was very comfortable.
Review 82:Very very hard bed, but the staff soon added a mattress topper to ease it a little. Buzzing outside the window for the light that hangs on the sign for the hotel! Booking.com needs to add the b&b and b,b&eve meal rates as an option as really worth eating here. Otherwise a tad expensive.
Review 83:Loved the building and location, elegant if not a little worn around the edges but it seemed to add to its charm. Lovely staff and amazing food in the restaurant. Would definitely return!:)
Review 84:Wifi was a bit slow not good when travelling with a preteen who likes his internet. Only downside of the breakfast was the veggie sausage which perhaps would have been nicer as a Glamorgan and the tomatoes tasted like they had been cooked alongside the kippers!!
Review 85:Lovely friendly staff;food maybe pricey but absolutely delicious especially the vegetarian options not a bit of curry flavour in sight.
Review 86:high level's of noise, doors banging, people shouting and running around from 2.30am until 4. not worth the price tag ! we expected a higher end establishment as a treat.
Review 87:lovely building and location
Review 88:Room was very warm and bed a bit uneven. Flooring around the hotel needs a bit of TLC. Very squeaky but adds to the charm I suppose!
Review 89:Ambience is very relaxing, staff give extremely good service and there is Leffe in draught in the bar!
Review 90:One of those annoying short double;beds where your;feet;hang;off the end busy easter weekend so;no where to sit and have a drink for the residents
Review 91:Lovely location. Breakfast excellent
Review 92:The only issue is, I thought breakfast should be included in the price of the room, other than that!! Brilliant!!
Review 93:We stayed hear as a group of 6 for my 60th birthday! Hotel was lovely! Staff brilliant and very welcoming! Also went out of there way to help us with any queries we had! Would definatly stay hear again!!
Review 94:Booking site said breakfast was included in the price. This was not the case. When we arrived the staff pointed out that the breakfast was not included . In view of this we did not think the price was very good. The bed was not a proper double it was just two singles pushed together. The hotel room was a bit on the shabby side for a four star hotel . I see the main fault is with the booking site.
Review 95:Free wifi
Review 96:We couldn't fault anything!
Review 97:Everything!All the people who worked there were welcoming, very friendly, and always had time for us.The food was good, and our room was large and comfortable.
Review 98:the only minus was the wifi was not strong in bedrooms.
Review 99:comfortable...fantastic staff especially the assistant manager...great food...professional...room gorgeous
Review 100:I was ignored on arrival. When my reservation was checked I was referred to by the surname. The room was not ready. I was invited to sit in the lounge but no-one came to say the room was prepared. I was told at breakfast that the cost was not included in the amount paid.
Review 101:Location and handiness of booking
Review 102:Very slight - but bar area is not reserved for drinkers only and being small we nearly weren't able to have a seat and being we were with someone who was 80 this could have been an issue.
Review 103:The service, food was excellent, helpful - loved it.
Review 104:The bathroom was in need of some touching up, the bath was Hobbit sized and paint was flaking off of the ceiling.
Review 105:The food was fabulous from our evening meal to breakfast. The staff were all fabulous and could not do enough to help.
Review 106:Creaky floor boards, but it's an old and authentic building so overall not a complaint but we don't miss that, but definitely loved the spa bath in the deluxe room
Review 107:Overall a fantastic experience of Conwy made even better by the excellent service and commodities of the hotel and restaurant. Cheaper than i thought and perfect for a short get a way even if funds are tight. Not cheap but you get everything you pay for, even as a young couple, my partner and i were pleasantly surprised to the amount you get for the price we paid
Review 108:Parking is limited, and if you have mobility issues this is not the hotel for you. No lifts.
Review 109:The staff could not have been more helpful or more professional . The food was very good, and the service was second to none, despite it being cold outside the hotel was lovely and warm, just like the staff.
Review 110:Wifi was poor. Only worked in common areas and then kicking u off all the time. Heat was dodgy with only a space heater to regulate. Went from too cold to too hot regularly.
Review 111:Shower was great and bed was soooooo comfy w a super cute dragon! Food was very good.
Review 112:Trying too think....um...no nothing
Review 113:Location, friendliness of the staff, the food was AMAZING value, our room was a really pleasant surprise with wonderful views of the castle and a jaccuzi bath
Review 114:There wasn't anything not to like
Review 115:Beautiful decor, great staff, exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Very good dinner menu. Enjoyed Conwy mussels. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 116:Couldn't get a full breakfast at 7 in the morning, but the stay before I could,,.mould in bath shower end,and the loo seat was broken.
Review 117:I loved my last bedroom, and the decor.room service was good ,the food was amazing
Review 118:Poor WiFi in distant room Better deals in winter warmer than available through Booking.com (£50)
Review 119:Central location Friendly reception Free car parking Comfortable room
Review 120:Description on booking.com website was incorrect however the hotel were great about it and accommodated us.
Review 121:Made to feel really welcome, couldn't do enough for us. Great location. Very boutique.
Review 122:windows were in poor condition & needed painting and cleaning (bird droppings), chair arms worn through. hanger on bathroom door missing, loo seat loose.
Review 123:We had a wonderful stay. The receptionist Brian was very friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely room overlooking the road. A large room with an extremely comfortable bed. We had meals in the dining room and they were terrific. The location is great. Wonderful shops and a lovely town with a huge castle. Incredible.
Review 124:Lovely old hotel very convenient location. Staff very friendly bar and restaurant meals very good nice patio area. Room was a little tired but otherwise great stay.
Review 125:Absolutely minor point but having negotiated the archway into the cap park at the rear I then discover they have a modest sized lot across the road from the hotel which would have been easier to use. But I didn't find out until after I'd got there.
Review 126:Can't speak highly enough about the hotel , it's staff, and the quality of the restaurant. It's not a new building of course but has been maintained to a high standard and my feeling was that everyone wanted the guests to have a great experience. With me it succeeded.
Review 127:When arrived found it would have been considerably cheaper to have booked direct with the hotel due to special Sunday night offer!
Review 128:Staff, food & character
Review 129:Stairs!! For a person with very limited mobility the fact there is no lift would prevent me ever staying again. Listed buildings can have lifts but maybe this hotel is just too good, in it's opinion, to need one?
Review 130:The friendly welcome, the helpful, courteous staff, the beautiful building, fabulous rooms, dragon's looking over you while you sleep, and just the all round atmosphere. Wonderful!!
Review 131:Very slow to move plate when you have finished eating, sat for 20 mins with dirty plates in fron of us.
Review 132:Rooms were nice Staff very friendly restaurant Excellent
Review 133:Me and my husband visited the hotel for one night to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel is beautiful, in a perfect location and the staff couldn't do enough. We would definitely recommend a visit.
Review 134:The service in the resturant was very poor due to low staffing levels. The staff working however were great but just under a lot of pressure. There was also no air conditioning so got rather hot in the room.
Review 135:Great postion and the staff always make you feel at ease straight away. We took our dog with us and again everything was catered for. Been to the hotel many times and shall continue to do so.
