Reviews for The Park Hotel

Review 1:Not quite warm enough for me. Meals quite expensive - would probably have been better if included as a package

Review 2:staff very good especially the manager who couldn't do enough for us

Review 3:Probably the most expensive breakfast I've had this year at £12, good though.

Review 4:Staff were very attentive and the restaurant was pretty good. Room was comfortable and warm, except for the bathroom on a slightly different level (in the annex).

Review 5:The rooms were shabby and outdated not good value we should have stayed for 5nights but checked after one night

Review 6:The staff were. Good and what food we had was good downstairs was good

Review 7:Firstly we loved the Location and the view from our room, located in the front of the Hotel. Comfy bed , clean and a lovely bathroom. The shower was easy to use , as sometimes they can be a bit confusing at first. We are looking forward to a return trip very soon. Hopefully and stay a little longer.

Review 8:The lights from the car park were shining in the room all night, below the curtains. I can understand the need for security lights but these were very bright.

Review 9:No lift we struggled to get up the stairs. Advertised bed and breakfast when we got There , breakfast was extra £29 00. Why are they in the bed and breakfast list, when their not.

Review 10:It was average

Review 11:We booked a supreme king size room and it was just 2 single beds pushed together and could feel the divid in bed and ended up both sleeping in just one of the single beds

Review 12:Bathroom had a very unpleasant smell. Poor continental breakfast for £8 pp. Room only price too much.

Review 13:Staff very pleasant and efficient, bedroom spacious and light

Review 14:The Hotel is close to the town centre, the staff were very helpful and kind, the room was very clean and comfy. Breakfast and evening meal very good spoilt for choice.

Review 15:The carpet sort of dirty and the mattress on the extra bed was broken with no support , like your whole body being "swallowed". End up my son sleeping on our bed for the 3 nights stay. No Lift.

Review 16:Within Walking Distance to High Street, which is the downtown.

Review 17:Our rooms were located in another building and we caught in the rain several times between the rooms and the bar/restaurant/ reception.

Review 18:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 19:The bed was very hard and also the pillows were not very comfortable. It spoiled the stay as for 2 nights we didn't sleep very well

Review 20:The position of the hotel.

Review 21:The rooms in the annex are cramped and bathroom is tiny. The heated towel rail remained on 24/7 making room very hot. These rooms are only suitable for single travellers. Apparently rooms in main hotel much better but prices are similar for both annex and hotel. Used tea/coffee cups in room not washed during room makeup. Continental breakfasts were quite basic with little choice available.

Review 22:The location is central and conveniently situated.

Review 23:Very poor wi-fi in the Courtyard Building...too far from the main building and wouldn't hold the signal.

Review 24:The staff were most helpful and allowed us a late departure. The accommodation was clean and tidy....very comfortable beds.

Review 25:A pool or gym facilities on site would be big improvement though we did use the facilities at the Barnstable hotel free of charge

Review 26:The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Made us feel very welcome and relaxed.

Review 27:Ideal location near the park and the river. Holy Trinity Church very convenient for Sunday worship. The staff were very friendly and helpful in every situation.

Review 28:Had to report to reception that the bathroom tiles had black mould on the grouting.we were told that the bathroom was due to have the grouting redone the next week, but we found that totally unexceptable as this should have been done before guests are expected to use it.Dont the management think that for a guest to report this something is very wrong in the general house keeping .

Review 29:Location was very good just a short walk into barnstaple.spacious room and very comfortable bed .

Review 30:The walls are too thin and I could hear the neighbour snoring!

Review 31:In the middle of the night, because of the snoring neighbour, the staff gave me another room on the fly without even having to move my things! That was really helpful!

Review 32:My wife is disabled and I was horrified to find there was no lift: The legality is questionable. No indication of the absence of a lift was given on the brochure and one assumed the place would be properly equipped. In the end we had to swap to a ground floor room occupied by my son and daughter in law who had been relegated to an annexe because they had an elderly well-behaved dog. .

Review 33:restaurant and food was excellent

Review 34:Being woken up at 4am by loud slamming doors and again 5am. (garden court rooms) I suggested soft door closers to be fitted. Second breakfast was poor quality. Hard eggs and dried over cooked bacon. I had very hard poached egg on over toasted bagel, which was meant to be eggs benedict (£3 supplement) for that not good!! Sunday 12th July.

Review 35:Saturday 11th July morning breakfast excellent. We really enjoyed the sister hotels leisure facilities. clean room with well stocked refreshments. Bar very good and also very friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 36:I didn't like the evening bar meals and thought they were overpriced for what they were. I didn't think the breakfasts were good value either.

Review 37:I found my room very clean and comfortable, also the free car parking was good.

Review 38:It was a pleasure to be served by such pleasant staff who had been properly trained and knew what they were doing. This is not the cheapest of hotels but we got what we paid for and were very satisfied

Review 39:The hotel looks tired from the outside but is lovely inside.

Review 40:The room was very clean and comfortable. Hotel is easy to find, park at and very quiet even though we had a lovely room facing the road. Highly recommend.

Review 41:All went very well :)

Review 42:Quiet location and overlooking a lovely park + 2 minutes walk from the River Taw (great for walks), good-size room with large bathroom, free parking available, nice staff.

Review 43:The shower was a bit floppy and weak. The breakfast was a bit too oily for our tastes - decent though.

Review 44:The view of the car park. Also the church. We liked the breakfast in our room and the very pleasant and helpful staff. There was a fabulous thunderstorm which we also liked a lot.

Review 45:The window was left open (only about 3-4 inches) as it was a warm weekend and we found a cat laying on our bed when we walked in from our evening out - it was as much of a shock to the cat as it was to us! Maybe some form of mesh could used on the windows?

Review 46:The hotel was easy to find, clean and well presented. The room was very spacious and clean.

Review 47:BEDROOM WAS IN ANNEXE AT REAR DARK WITH NO VIEW..TOLD MANAGEMENT WE WERE UNHAPPY WITH ROOM.GIVEN UPGRADE TO FRONT SUPERIOR ROOM.

Review 48:GOOD LOCATION FOR EXPLORING NORTH DEVON.FRIENDLY STAFF MADE US VERY WELCOME

Review 49:The staff was very friendly. The senior receptionist, Emily, went out of her way to assist and ensure we had the room we wanted. The reception staff and housekeeping staff were very pleasant. The hotel is walking distance from Barnstaple City Centre.

Review 50:Overall i will not come to this place till i make sure that they got a new COMFORT beds. i was going to leave the place not cause of the bed... they have a good hotel but i sleep on bed the end of the day the whole night.

Review 51:Location. .. car park.

Review 52:The bed was uncomfortable and for the price I would have expected more modern and better facilities.

Review 53:The staff were helpful, the hotel was clean and the location good.

Review 54:We were happy, weather kind -BUT wondered what it would be like in wet weather as room was detached from main hotel and all facilities. Stairs and steps steep for elderly person.

Review 55:Interconnecting room which contained very noisy young men. We complained and the manager cautioned them but to no avail. Another guest later knocked on their door and they went quiet. I was woken by them at 02.45 and hammered on the interconnecting door which silenced them. It seems we were unlucky with our neighbours.

Review 56:Good location, nice food

Review 57:The disabled facilities were poor. The twin room was on ground floor but no walk in shower. The shower was over the bath so mum couldn't use it. There was only a wheelchair ramp to a door that couldn't be used unless in emergency. The steps in the hallway weren't easily negotiated with wheelchair so not a disabled friendly hotel also no lifts

Review 58:Food was excellent beautifully presented and hot. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Rooms clean, tea making facilities and TV in the rooms. The double room was on the small side but had en-suite bath with shower a double wardrobe small armchair and dressing table so quite adequate.

Review 59:BT Openzone wifi a bit patchy - kept dropping in and out Breakfast finishes at 9am (what if you're on holiday!). Restaurant could be better

Review 60:Very comfortable, modern room Room service without a "tray charge" - just pay for cost of items ordered, and excellent cheese & biscuits / sandwiches available 24 hours Staff always willing to help, whatever the hour Access to leisure facilities at sister hotel

Review 61:Only one thing - my room smelled very musty as though someone had been smoking there.

Review 62:Very handy for central Barnstaple. Good parking. Small room but nice bathroom.

Review 63:The diverter valve in the shower did not work so it was not possible to take a shower without being scalded by a miserable flow of water. We waited an hour for breakfast which was then cold. When presented the bill contained two breakfasts and two evening meals that we did not have.

Review 64:A central, quiet location.

Review 65:The room was either too cold or too warm. The towel rail took ages to heat up. Some instructions on the heat would be helpful. The bed was not that comfortable and there was a bit of mold on the wall beside the desk. The wifi was very unreliable so we couldn't use it.

Review 66:Great breakfast, plenty of parking, friendly staff, convenient location and pleasant being across from park. I like the double sink in the bathroom.

Review 67:The room was cold. I returned after the heating was off. There wasn't a blanket or telephone numbers to ring the front desk. There was no WiFi

Review 68:Position and breakfast

Review 69:Bath towels could be larger!!

Review 70:Comfort, friendliness of staff, just the right distance from town so not noisy at night. Breakfast and dinner superb. Spotless in all areas.

Review 71:Big party with loud music on the 2nd night till 1.00. I wish the hotel had put me further away from the activities as it was very noisy!

Review 72:Position, good deal

Review 73:Bit disappointed that I arrived to discover a birthday party, with a live band, taking place in a function room about 20 metres from my room !?! perhaps consideration could have been given to putting me in a quieter part of the hotel.

Review 74:The room was excellent and spotlessly clean.Good location and off-street parking.

Review 75:Accommodated in Garden wing which means a fair walk to & from dining, if bad weather feel like missing eating and stay in warm and comfortable room.

Review 76:Cheerful, friendly staff in all departments. Good quality food served both evening & breakfast.

Review 77:Breakfast was served until only 9:30 so we had to eat in town.

Review 78:It's in a quiet location that is only about 5 minute walk from the town centre (or £2.60 taxi fair if it's raining).

Review 79:I cannot honestly say there was anything I disliked about my stay.

Review 80:On entering the hotel, the reception was friendly and my room was very clean and warm in looks and temperature. Breakfast was excellent. I only spent one night which was excellent. I would recommend The Park Hotel everytime. It's where I will stay when I'm that area.

Review 81:TV didn't work. Not a major problem for us as we weren't there to watch TV - just needed somewhere to sleep after a night out in Barnstable. Whilst the shower was lovely and warm the water pressure was poor

Review 82:Very clean Comfortable bed Location - <5minute walk into town centre Plenty of on-site parking Good price

Review 83:Shower didn't work well, no water pressure. bath towels were only slightly bigger that hand towels. Towel rail didn't work

Review 84:Good size car park. Easy check in. Room was clean and bright

Review 85:Very friendly team of staff who actually made note of the special requirements I had indicated. Staff made the effort to lay out cereals and fruit for me because I couldn't have a cooked due to an very early check-out time. Thanks guys!

Review 86:The WiFi wasn't brilliant - I had to keep logging in every half hour or so, and sometimes the signal was lost altogether which was frustrating. I also struggled to turn the heating on in the cold room but the assistant manager came up to show me how to do it.

Review 87:I had a double room with a very comfortable bed, a great shower that was easy to use and good facilities, such as TV & choice of beverages. The staff were very helpful and friendly, always smiling and ready to help, and the food was very good too. Parking convenient and plentiful.

Review 88:Wifi is inconsistent and the connection is not steady therefore using it for working online is problematic although it is OK for normal browsing.

Review 89:Staff service Bar food Room size Bed

Review 90:The shower was awful. Either very hot or cold - no in between! No power to it either. I reported it and the receptionist said they would attend to it so it may be just a temporary fault.

Review 91:Comfortable and attentive staff

Review 92:No lift and you have to carry heavy suitcases by stairs!

Review 93:The girls working at the reception are always very welcoming and take a good care of the guests!

Review 94:This hotel relies on BTOpenzone internet access. I tried it in a couple of rooms during my stays and access and reliability of the signal was very poor.

Review 95:Noisy television in the room next door. Volume control on in-room T.V. and better soundproofing should be introduced. Spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay.

Review 96:Excellent menu and service in the restaurant, breakfast and dinner. Good value, friendly staff.

Review 97:In the bathroom, the hot water tap knob (on the right as facing the basin) fell off. I had to manaually manipulate the valve head as the knob was not easily replaceable. Also, the door of the airing cuboard abutted directly onto the corner of chest of drawers. The latter could be avoided by rounding off the edge of the chest of drawers and placing a protective pad in the relevant area on the door.

Review 98:The location, facilities and staff were all key in my very positive response to the questionnaire

Review 99:Nothing negative to say.

Review 100:Very easy to find and access by car plus plenty of free parking. Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable rooms, well equipped and with all the little extras which made the stay more enjoyable. Short pleasant walk to town centre and all local amenities. Exactly what I required for my visit.

Review 101:The walls within the hotel do not prevent the transmission of noise from either the corridor or adjacent rooms. Friday night - wedding party Saturday night - 60th birthday party

Review 102:Location Breakfast

Review 103:Wedding party was being held and my room was close by. Obvious noise led to disturbed sleep. Suggestion for hotel: question if guests are in the party & if not locate them further away! Suggestion for guests: question if a party is being held and if so request a room further away!

Review 104:The pillows, not very comfy, and the annoying blue light on the television.

Review 105:Lovely room ,spotless bathroom, excellent breakfast. 5mins from town centre and opposite pleasant river walk and park. Have stayed here before and the quality hasn't changed.

Review 106:Clean, comfortable, early tray breakfast to room. Large bed, plush bathroom. Not spectacular, but a good night's sleep is comfortable surroundings.

Review 107:The free wi-fi never worked,we understand the hotel constantly badgers BT to fix the problem, but so far nothing has happened, bearing in mind the hotel group covers much of the SW they ought to be able to put sufficient pressure to bear to sort this out. Lastly in view of the fact many guests are elderly,no mention is made that there is no lift.

Review 108:Really friendly, helpful staff throughout the hotel, rooms are clean and well equipped with plenty of tea/coffee available. Our morning paper was delivered to the door and there was never a rush to get you out of the room.

Review 109:Walking from annex to main building in the rain during my first stay

Review 110:Comfortable lounge situation with the bar Views and prospect towards the park Friendly charm of the waiting staff Nothng too much trouble

Review 111:squeaky floors, need addressing when next changing carpets, noisy when using loo at night.

Review 112:comfy bed, clean, well run hotel in easy walking distance of town.

Review 113:Walls of bedroom were very thin. Could hear other guests and TV in rooms both sides (including the snoring) which caused disturbed nights.

Review 114:The staff and service were second to none. Food great, best breakfast we've had at a hotel for a long time. Really relaxing time. Good location for town. Plenty of parking spaces.

Review 115:internet access - non existent most of the time

Review 116:The room was very comfortable, well equipped with coffee, tea and biscuits, staff were very helpful and friendly. Free parking

Review 117:The cleanliness of the facilities - the bathroom simply sparkled! A lazy stroll took us away from the peaceful parkland and, within minutes, we were almost in the middle of this attractive North Devon town that offers so much variation in in its wares.

Review 118:There was very little I could say as to not like about this hotel, the location is ok, and the layout of the hotel could be better but that's being pedantic.

Review 119:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel was well equipped and had good facilities, the rooms were clean and comfortable and would recommend people to stay here.

Review 120:We were put in the out building which was very dated and felt unsafe and not part of the hotel, it had a feel of a retirement home and the beds were not comfy

Review 121:Great location, our friends room in main hotel was lovely and modern

Review 122:Services was a little slow; none of the breakfast tables were set for groups of more than 2; poor cold beakfast selection and female in group was in a room across the car park - FOH team's explanation was unacceptable

Review 123:Comfortable rooms Good quality cooked breakfast, cooked to order

Review 124:I wish there was a lift to get the heavy suitcases to the higher floors:)

Review 125:Very nice hotel with a helpful staff! I did enjoy my staying and will be back in the future:)

Review 126:was not very clean all round room, was not dusted, tables in bar had not been wiped down even tho there was only a few people in there, glasses where also not clean, bath towels in room where way to small, toilet did not flush well, and got the feeling if you where not over 55 with a shirt on you should not stay there.

Review 127:location with parking, tea pot in room.

Review 128:The constant heavy slow traffic throughout Barnstaple it took such a long time to get anywhere. The heavy duvets on the beds and no top sheets......

Review 129:Liked the informality of having the lounge and dining room as one and the bar also. Liked the easy location to the town.

Review 130:Nothing really , probably just that I wasn't staying longer.

Review 131:Being a lone female can feel uncomfortable but this wasn't the case at the Park . Room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable . Good selection of drinks and great breakfast , cooked really well .Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 132:accomodation was perfect.staff excellent and approacable .breakfast choices for everyone.we would stay again ,the kids were all happy with the choices something for everyone considering its sometimes hard to pls 4 kids ...they loved their short stay..local activities and lovely sites to see near by, walkng distance.would stay again if we visit devon again..babs london

Review 133:Walk to the main hotel but umbrellas were supplied as it was extremely wet!

Review 134:Fabulous friendly staff, carvery buffet great choice and loads to eat. Room lovely and quiet. Will return.

Review 135:Only thing I could say I disliked was the shower had poor pressure.

Review 136:We arrived early than our heck in time so our room wasn't ready, we were due at a wedding and needed our room to get changed, staff were great all rallied round and found a room for us which was ready with no problems and all staff were very friendly. Our room was very nice, clean and all facilities we needed.
