Reviews for Woodlands Country House
Review 1:Hot water was a bit unpredictable in the bath. Location would be challenging without a car, so the exploration of the local pubs and restaurants is somewhat limited, unless you take a cab everywhere.
Review 2:Owners and staff were amazing, and very helpful. Interior design - very relaxing and peaceful. Spotlessly clean.
Review 3:Beautiful house, exceptionally well furnished and decorated. Comfortable, spacious, well appointed room - every traveller's need accommodated. Location brilliant, very close to Padstow but in a rural setting. Breakfasts were superb. Hosts were very welcoming, pleasant and happy to attend to our every need.
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:Beautiful country house with a very warm welcome. The room was amazing, Hugo and Pippa have thought of everything. Extensive breakfast menu cooked to perfection perfect setting, with relaxing garden. We willl be back for sure.. You must stay here. 10/10.
Review 6:The staff and breakfasts were top-notch....Certainly not the standard fare. In my three weeks of staying at different B&Bs in Cornwall, this was the stand out on so many levels.
Review 7:No negatives
Review 8:Everything! Great location about 15 minutes walk to Padstow Harbour. The room was large and airy and whole place has a very homely feel. The owners, Pippa and Hugo, were very friendly and helpful and the home made breakfasts were marvellous. Can't recommend this place highly enough (and it's also dog friendly).
Review 9:Hugo and Pippa and the team were great. Very friendly. They went the extra mile - it was my husbands 40th - they have him a card and put a candle in his breakfast and sang. The house is beautiful and our room "the beach room" was stunning, as were the views. Thanks so much for a great time.
Review 10:I cannot fault this hotel and would definitely stay again.
Review 11:This was a home from home. The owners thoughtfully provided all the little extras to make our stay so comfortable.
Review 12:Water temperature in the bathroom is fixed - my preference is for a hot bath, and I could not really achieve this.
Review 13:Exceptional room (Room 1) - all comforts included, spotlessly clean, modern facilities, and well presented. A dvd library for guests to use was a nice touch, as was the in-room fridge. Attentive, friendly and very accommodating staff. Peace and quiet of the location. And of course the varied and beautifully executed breakfasts!
Review 14:Couldn't eat much breakfast as had been to seafood restaurant! Altho we had bacon sandwiches to take away!
Review 15:Great welcome and lovely owners Lovely room Very comfortable bed Amazing Breakfast - what I could manage Location is lovely - just out of Padstow. Park here and get a taxi to town saves parking issues in Padstow
Review 16:No direct bad experience, but be aware that if you don't have a car, the walk to the city center of Padstow is partly on a narrow road with heavy traffic. The walk will be for 15-20 minutes.
Review 17:House ,staff, breakfast,surroundings; fantastic!
Review 18:Nothing really, the room was a little dated.
Review 19:As written before this is an Excellent B&B with amazing breakfasts. The owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.
Review 20:When booking it seemed to say that the property was 15 minutes walk from Padstow. It probably was, but you would not want to do this walk when going to a restaurant for th evening as there was no pavement on parts of the road and you had to stay close to the hedgerows to avoid traffic.
Review 21:Every thing was perfect
Review 22:We liked everything that was a aubade and the breakfast were something to die for.
Review 23:the friendliness of all the staff and host. Beautiful house so comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Review 24:Just spent 4 days at the Woodlands and enjoyed every minute. The staff were exceptional but then so was everything else!! Highly recommend to travellers who want to be close to the village but not quite in the village.
Review 25:The owners, Pippa and Hugo, were fantastic hosts. The house was tastefully decorated and the drawing room was a great place to relax and read the paper after a day of sightseeing. Above all, the breakfast was delicious.
Review 26:were given a room fully equipped for disabled guest which was not requested and not expected. It did not represent the price paid.
Review 27:Friendly staff and location
Review 28:Absolutely nothing at all
Review 29:Mine hosts Pippa and Hugo are most helpful and accommodating. Breakfast is not to be missed and all staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 30:You wouldn't want to do the walk to Padstow with young children. A busy road with no footpath in places.
Review 31:The place was gorgeous. We had the beach room which had stunning views of countryside and sea. Staff were lovely.
Review 32:The room had everything we needed and more. the staff were lovely and the breakfast had a wide variety and was very tasty. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 33:Nothing to do with the woodlands itself but be aware we took a taxi to a resturant 18 miles away & it cost £85 return!!! & one 12 Miles away for £65 return
Review 34:a nice warm welcome when we arrive, nice large room with comfortable bed stunning views (sea view was clutching at straws slightly).the breakfast was amazing both days.we would go back again
Review 35:It is a beautiful house, in an excellent location. Our hosts, Hugo and Pippa were absolutely charming and extremely helpful. The room was lovely, and you could not fault the cleanliness. We had an amazing view of the countryside from our room. The breakfasts were amazing! Overall, we had a fabulous stay, could not fault it, and will definately be returning.
Review 36:Nothing!
Review 37:Loved the whole house, it's absolutely gorgeous and has been furnished beautifully. Pippa and Hugo, the owners, are so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are superb with a huge selection of everything you could possibly want for breakfast either hot or cold. The hot breakfasts are cooked to order, not sitting in a warmer.
Review 38:It's a little outside of town and not really safe to walk in at night (no footpath), so you have to drive to eat out at night. This didn't put us off returning for a second night later in our trip.
Review 39:Breakfast was delicious, staff couldn't have been better: truly felt well looked after. Rooms comfortable, the house charming.
Review 40:Absolutely nothing!
Review 41:Absolutely everything! Hugo and Pippa (owner/s) of Woodlands B&B are very nice people. Welcoming and professional at the same time. The house is very glam! The dining room esp. like a small piece of Claridges in Padstow. Home made, fresh cooked breakfast...the best we've ever had. Not surprising though, as both Hugo & Pippa are pro chefs. Very clean and homely decorated throughout. Location is great! Very much looking forward to returning. P.S. House maids Vicky and Rosie also amazing!
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Everything. Simply the best. Hugo & Pippa were charming hosts and staff friendly, there was a real homely and relaxing feel to the house. An excellent book and DVD library. The bed was really comfortable, the quality and attention to detail made for a great R & R stop over. We felt welcomed and well looked after. It more than lived up to our expectations, can't wait to return. A Great location for exploring the North Cornwall Coast - and dog friendly, what more could you ask for?
Review 44:Nothing negative at all.
Review 45:The whole experience from arrival to departure was perfect. Great breakfast with fantastic country view. Walking distance to Padstow and the coast path. The Blue Room hospitality.
Review 46:Being picky the shower curtain!
Review 47:Warm welcome. Lovely Victorian house. Excellent breakfasts with homemade delights. Comfortable areas to relax. Very helpful advice on local amenities such as walks, restaurants.
Review 48:great facilities, lovely views, welcoming people, nothing too much trouble, waiting staff most pleasant, quirky décor, interesting bits & pieces to look at. Lovely breakfasts & so impressed with all the homemade goodies like preserves & cakey things. Would definitely stay again if we have more time to explore the area
Review 49:Excellent B&B - quaint beautiful décor in period building just above Padstow. The fact they do not have a restaurant is not a problem at all as there are so many good restaurants down the road by the harbour. Honesty bar in the living room is a nice touch.
Review 50:Would have preferred a bigger bed.The double bed was only a 4ft 6inch bed which is a bit small in this day and age.
Review 51:Lovely location, good food, friendly staff and owners, plenty of space for drying wet clothes.
Review 52:Personally I would have preferred a more traditional veggie sausage with my full vegetarian breakfast
Review 53:We loved arriving into a beautiful hallway which felt warm and welcoming as was our host who was keen we should gain the maximum comfort from our stay. You could not wish for anything in our rooms spotlessly clean with all the additions you love to see after a long journey, fresh milk was available at any time to make a nice cuppa.
Review 54:We only stayed one night wish it had been more!!
Review 55:We were greeted by very friendly helpful staff and everything was explained to us about our stay. Where the collection of dvds and books were kept and the rules of the honest bar and times of breakfast.our room the beach room was amazing. Beautiful views very clean tea / coffee making facilities and home made shortbread. Would highly recommend this charming bed and breakfast. Breakfast was outstanding too.what more could you ask for. Can't wait to make a return visit.
Review 56:Nothing that the hotel can do about this, but the lack of footpath makes walking back at night a dangerous option not to be taken.
Review 57:Wonderful breakfasts, tranquil environment, lovely people, every need thought about. Easy access to coastal walks. 5 minute taxi ride or 15 minute walk to Padstow.
Review 58:Walk into Padstow, particularly at night, potentially dangerous along unlit road with no footpath for some of the way. Complementary biscuits only provided in room for first night. A bit mean for a five star establishment.
Review 59:Staff friendliness, breakfast, accommodation.
Review 60:Hospitality Quality of additional bits in the room. Food was exceptional quality Owners and staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We will definitely go back- very impressed.
Review 61:Because our GPS would not accept English postal codes, we would have appreciated a bit more signage to help find the house.
Review 62:Hugo and Pippa went out of their way to be helpful....to the point of printing off and marking a map for the next 2 days. Breakfasts, of course, were marvelous! We requested a main floor room and found most accommodating and comfortable handicapped room. The well appointed lounge, back deck overlooking fields and the ocean and solarium all added to our enjoyment.
Review 63:Woodlands was a fantastic place to stay - Pippa, Hugo, Vicki and Paula were so welcoming and hospitable; our room was beautifully appointed with a great view; and their breakfasts deserve their award-winning reputation. Highly recommended.
Review 64:It was a pity that the walk back from local restaurants in the dark evenings was not possible due to dangerously narrow roads.
Review 65:I enjoyed staying in a well loved Victorian house that offered spacious and individually style accommodation. There were special touchess provided that I appreciated such as bottled water, fresh milk and DVDs. Breakfasts gorgeous and staff very pleasant.
Review 66:car parking was a problem when a lot of guests were staying otherwise everything was excellent.
Review 67:location and the stunning view from the bedroom and the breakfast room. all the staff were very pleasant and very helpful.
Review 68:Outstanding Variety & quality of breakfast Dog friendly Friendliness of owners & staff Spacious room & bathroom Quality & style of decor Excellent reviews of local restaurants & pubs
Review 69:Nothing. Going back for valentines wkend. A proper treat without breaking the bank
Review 70:This hotel is even better than it sounds. Fantastic and spotless rooms. Friendly yet unobtrusive service. Amazing breakfast. Never had better in any hotel. Fvery little detail catered for.
Review 71:Not a major issue but we did think the hotel was within walking distance of Padstow. It is but it is a good 25 minute walk. Having said this it would not deter us form returning to this Hotel.
Review 72:Everything about the place, could not find any fault. The hosts were amazing and the breakfast was outstanding. A true gem.
Review 73:Room 7 very small particularly the shower room. Walk to village as advertised in 15 minutes took at least 25 and quite dangerous as no pavement
Review 74:Great breakfast and very obliging staff
Review 75:Although we did it ,walk into Padstow and back a bit of a trek though were able to get a taxi for £5.
Review 76:House beautifully and tastefully decorated. Charming hosts. Breakfast excellent with unique touches like home made banana bread, lemon curd and also lovely place settings with fine china and napkin rings.
Review 77:Beautiful old home, friendly & warm staff. Absolutely delicious breakfast. Loved the "honesty" system for drinks & the fact that dogs are welcome. A little bit of gracious heaven.
Review 78:If I must add something here, possibly my mattress could have been a bit more comfortable but it really was not a big deal!
Review 79:The hosts, the location, the breakfast, the cows in the back field, the trustworthy approach, the cookbook. A lovely place with lovely hosts and lovely food! Highly recommended!
Review 80:The breakfasts, the friendliness of the staff and Pippa and Hugo, they couldn't do enough for us. Our bedroom was lovely and the sitting room and honesty bar much appreciated.
Review 81:The detail to attention, the location and the welcome could not have been any better. Breakfast, well what can I say it was fantastic. A good start to a lovely week in our favourite location - Cornwall.
Review 82:Absolutely nothing to dislike other than we were not staying for longer than our 2 nights !
Review 83:Everything. The Woodlands is well worth it's 5 star rating. Pippa and her staff made us feel very welcome, will certainly return. Very clean , and a lot of lovely little extra touches throughout the hotel. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice plus a daily special. ( the kedgeree was delicious !) . We had a lovely stay at this hotel and will definitely be going back again now we have found it .
Review 84:There's nothing to dislike about this hotel from our experience.
Review 85:The hotel owners and staff were incredibly friendly and that combined with beautiful, comfortable rooms and a fabulous breakfast made it the perfect place for put honeymoon visit to padstow. The attention to detail was lovely such as the delicious Cornish biscuits in the room, bottled water and fridge as well as the lovely toiletries. The bed was also very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing! Lots of choice of fresh fruits and other tasty homemade treats and all very high quality. Very highly recommended and we will be back when we next visit Cornwall. Thank you!
Review 86:The location of the hotel was on a busy road. Not as easy as we thought to walk into padstow.
Review 87:Such an amazing choice and array of foods to choose from. How refreshing to see gluten free options with lots of yogurt and fresh fruit instead of of the usual standard selection. As a Nutritionist it is great to see healthy choices especially in the UK! The room was perfect too. Clean, comfortable and a great choice of DVD's.
Review 88:This was a great place to stay, the staff were very hospitable, food was great and bed very comfy. We had a wonderful stay. We would stay there again.
Review 89:I was walking the coastal footpath and did not have a car, so it was a bit out of the way, being situated in the countryside out of town. However, the countryside is lovely.
Review 90:Beautiful house, lovely room, friendly staff and breakfast to die for. If you're going to Padstow I would recommend it for a bit of luxury.
Review 91:Location was ideal. Nice and quite, yet easy to access the main towns. Excellent atmosphere, more the feel of a home than a hotel. Sit out in the garden or on the decking. Very clean and well kept room with personal touches like home made biscuits. Owners take great pride in looking after guests and offering something a little more than the norm. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 92:Nothing really! It was perfect.
Review 93:From the moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted, shown around and brought to my room. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in what they do, and they really do a good job. The entire establishment was perfect to every detail, with books and DVDs available for guests. There was also an 'honesty bar' which really set the tone for a family feel to the place. As a single traveller, I was very well taken care of - very pleased to note that I was given a lovely table for breakfast, something I really appreciated. Bedding, toiletries were of very high quality. Breakfast was exceptionally good too. Owners and staff were genuine and made me feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again.
Review 94:Felt our room was a little over priced at £132. We had room 11 with the sun terrace. It was quite small and when we visit again we will have one of the bigger rooms (similar price but bigger)
Review 95:Extremely friendly greeting and made to feel at home, excellent idea being able to help yourself to drink with the honesty box to be added to your bill, also the choice of a free DVD from a great choice of movies that you could watch in your room. Very tasty breakfast, lovely view from our room with sun terrace. Would definately revisit
Review 96:Super place to stay, Hugo and Pippa made our two visits most enjoyable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfasts, super location, accommodation homely and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 97:Leaving!
Review 98:High quality accommodation in a traditional country house style. Supremely comfortable and excellent home-cooked food-the best breakfast we've ever had. Lovely touches such as fresh Cornish milk in a fridge on the landing and home-made lemon curd, granola and breads at breakfast.
Review 99:Our hosts Pippa and Hugo were welcoming and warm as was our waitress at breakfast. Can't recommend this establishment highly enough. We will be back for more .
Review 100:Catered brilliantly for gluten free breakfast options, couldn't do enough to help us. The honesty bar is a nice touch but could have done with some baileys! Free parking, outside of the centre of Padstow which was a positive for us, easy enough to get taxis to the centre. Beautiful old characterful property but nicely brought up to date ie bathrooms etc.
Review 101:The house is 15mins walk into Padstow and part of the way is on the road with no foot path, in the day not really a problem but once it's dark the road has no lighting so it's not really suitable so I would recommend taxi or drive into town at night
Review 102:Extremely well ran country house, could not fault it, very friendly helpfully staff, breakfasts are fantastic, would certainly return.
Review 103:Would have liked a bigger/softer bed (personal choice) and defiantly the summer quilt was not bigger enough for 2, having said that it was soon sorted once we mentioned it.
Review 104:Hugo and Pippa are most helpful and their staff can not do enough for you to make the stay more enjoyable, A beautiful spot just outside Padstow. Real milk for early morning cuppa A+
Review 105:The hotel was very nice and the food was lovely. It was the best holiday we have ever had and the owners where lovely. We would highly recommend the holiday
Review 106:Nothing really
Review 107:Country house atmosphere. Comfortable and clean we had a good night's sleep here. We were in the smallest room but it had all the extras including bathrobes and a really effective shower! The breakfast served by attentive pleasant staff was also excellent - even better than Rick Steins where we had stayed the night before.
Review 108:The only things I missed from home was a modern hair dryer and a nail brush (the latter wasn't supplied anywhere else in Cornwall in last two weeks!).
Review 109:Everything, especially the Breakfast.
Review 110:The proprietors, Pippa and Hugo were charming, the room pretty with delicious biscuits, good selection of tea and best of all, fresh milk in a fridge down the hall. Breakfast was excellent, home made everything from the granola to the lemon curd. I would single out the hogs pudding for a special mention. For relaxing, there is a sitting room for guests with an honesty bar.
Review 111:Wifi not good but it's an old building. Can't think of anything else!
Review 112:Welcome. Our room. Decor. Breakfast. Owners and staff. Garden. Nice toiletries. Fresh milk for drinks. Views. Quietness.
Review 113:The room was lovely, clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly, made us feel so welcomed. And the breakfasts were amazing! Particularly hugos banana bread!
Review 114:We really did not find anything we did not like.
Review 115:This is a lovely, large Victorian home serving as B&B hotel, family-run with staff willing to bend over backwards to make each guest's stay pleasant. It is very charming, and the breakfasts are wonderful. They vary the items each day with something special. The west central coast of Cornwall location was really great for getting around most of Cornwall. It was in a lovely, quiet, rural setting about 3 minutes from the town area of Padstow.
Review 116:would be nice to be able to walk to Trevone beach off-road but I understand that the neighbouring farmer is a bit prickly so this is not currently an option.
Review 117:wonderful hotel. Old English Country House style but not fuddy-duddy. The house has a lovely feel and has recently been renovated but in a very traditional way. it works very well. We had the beach room. It was enormous and had a great view of the countryside and you could see the sea if not the actual beach at Trevone. Bathroom very smart, room very smart. Breakfast was just terrific. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Review 118:room hot at night - small window, could not turn off radiator in bathroom
Review 119:nicely decorated and furnished location near coast path fantastic breakfasts friendly helpful owners and staff honesty bar and nice sitting room with magazines and papers ideal for taking a dog let us leave a car to collect later in day good advice on where to eat
Review 120:Nothing not to like..
Review 121:The personal touches were lovely and the house is steeped in history which makes it a really interesting place to stay. The breakfast was a feast! We took our little dog and the field at the back of the house was perfect for her convenience. We were all so well looked after and we shall definetly be going again.
Review 122:Excellent accommodation, lovely selection of food at breakfast, loved the home-made banana bread! Very welcoming owners, spacious, comfortable room, close to Padstow.
Review 123:nothing
Review 124:Very friendly and overall a lovely stay
Review 125:What a lovely hospitable hotel - the most amazing breakfast and service. Clean cosy rooms. Close to Padstow with ample parking.
