Reviews for La Corderie Royale
Review 1:The hallways were totally dark and you had to stop often to hit the light switches. If you are not going to leave the lights on, at least get motion detector switches for this was ridiculous, particularly when carrying luggage. The rooms are quite basic and the furnishings were not up to great standards (cheap and old) as you would expect from looking at the grand outside pictures.
Review 2:Nice location with a great view of the waterway and the boats from the breakfast room. Breakfast was good. They were fully booked for dinner (Saturday night), but there was a nice seafood restaurant only a block away. Parking was free.
Review 3:On arrival we were given minimal information. As tourists we were not made to feel welcome. The bathroom should have been cleaner. It is quite amazing the amount of dirt that can be seen whilst sitting in the bath!
Review 4:This was the perfect location, although we did not know it when we booked. We walked over to see the Hermione the first afternoon. There was a good restaurant at the corner and it was an easy walk into town center. Very efficient and friendly reception.
Review 5:- layout means long walk to furthest rooms - our rooms need renovation, especially bathrooms - overpriced breakfast
Review 6:- great location, in historical building & district but away from town center - free room upgrade on second night
Review 7:Our pre booking did not make it sufficiently clear that it was essential to book a dinner reservation. As we had visited the hotel before and knew the high quality of the restaurant it was the only reason for our re-visit. We were extremely disappointing on our arrival to find that the restaurant was full. The receptionist unhelpfully responded to our dismay by saying the it was "not his fault". The rooms are of basic quality. Bathrooms are basic and there was no shower curtain and few toiletries.
Review 8:Situated in a good location close to a most interesting town.
Review 9:Totally awful, we were told we could have no dinner or room service as the restaurant has to be booked far in advanced. Awful Also very tatty rooms and we couldn't even get a drink from the bar as it was closed. Terrible service don't do it
Review 10:Location good very pretty surrounding
Review 11:The interior of the hotel was a bit worn and not really decorated in sympathy with the historic building it is built within. Rochefort sur mer is very tired and needs some money invested.
Review 12:The actual hotel building as part of the old corderie complex is very nice. Location is nice next to the yacht marina. Only a short trip to La Rochelle worth a visit.
Review 13:It's a four stars hotel that looks like a two stars.
Review 14:Outside of the building is really nice, location along the river is fantastic. Staff is very helpful.
Review 15:Everything average. Hostile young lady catering for breakfast. Hotel not up to its location and extraordinary historical environment.
Review 16:Stunning location
Review 17:nothing
Review 18:Superb location, by the river, , by the fantastic ex-military establishment, and lovely walks all round the property. A step back in time to grander days. Superb!!
Review 19:This hotel could be great and it could have been a great experience IF: deliveries of goods to the hotel that occurred at around 6am did not happened....! although our room was facing the "inside" with a magnificent view of the royal corderie , the hotel is receiving apparently each morning deliveries for its restaurant very early morning and the noise from the delivery truck backing up just ruined our night ! but the worst is that the front dest Manager acted as she had never received any complain while another staff told us "unofficially" that this has been a real issue for quite a while....so be aware that you will be waiking up very early ..no matter what as Management did not seem to care !
Review 20:Night reception made us feel unwelcome having a quiet nightcap with friends in the lobby.
Review 21:Helpful & friendly staff. Lovely ambience. Large rooms and great pool area.
Review 22:hotel, despite recent paint touch up looks tired. Needs substantial refurb. Ok three star but not a four star.
Review 23:Friendly staff Nice location by Charente river Nice, but cold, u heated pool
Review 24:The hotel is 4 stars, but decoration is not which I think " 4 starts hotel ". Everything is clean, but quite boaring.
Review 25:A breafast was nice and the restaurant is also quite nice.
Review 26:I had read previous reviews about the rooms being tatty, so deliberately booked a superior room foolishly thinking it would be a better standard. The bathroom was such a poor standard, just an old fashioned shower head above the bath that sprayed water all over the floor (no shower screen). All the grout between the tiles had turned yellow, and the mirror was tarnished. A total waste of money.
Review 27:Nice location, restaurant ok.
Review 28:Wi Fi didn't work, only French television, no bathrobes which there should have been for the price, breakfast very ordinary. Nothing hot to eat.
Review 29:The situation of the hotel and the receptionist was extremely nice and helpful.
Review 30:On arrival were informed that Restaurant would not be open Sat/Sun, knowing in advance would have been useful, however having gone out searching for a Restaurant on Sat evening we returned to find the Restaurant was open!! (Will put it down to translation)
Review 31:Position of Hotel was perfect, Reception Staff were welcoming although misinformation was disappointing (see dislike) Room, Bedding, Towels were very clean.
Review 32:The room and en suite facilities were not what we have come to expect from a four star rated hotel, especially comparing it to Spanish 4 star hotels. I think the French must grade their hotels differently!
Review 33:The receptionist was very helpful and efficient and friendly. The restaurant was excellent.
Review 34:First visit for several years. Some areas could do with a lick of paint or a bit of titivation. Would not hesitate to return, though.
Review 35:Great location in an area dripping with history, easy access and plenty of (free) parking. Superb swimming pool that was surprisingly underused during our stay. Quiet. Corderie rooms are spacious and well appointed with great view.
Review 36:There is free parking on site but this can be limited at busy times, however there is public parking nearby. The continental breakfast was plentiful in quantity but the variety of choice such as in the cereal was a little limited. Toast would have been appreciated but overall breakfast was a pleasure.
Review 37:On a very busy weekend in Rochefort, the staff were friendly, welcoming and courteous. The grounds were pretty and the setting next to the river was lovely. The hotel was next to the Corderie and close to the marine museum, restaurants shops. It was ideally situated to walk along the river and visit the marina and places of historical interest.
Review 38:Quite a walk into town but a nice square with bars. We did not have a car but we are happy to walk. Did not eat in hotel. Pricey.
Review 39:Lovely big room. View over garden. Nice pool area. Early September stay and it was very quiet. Mostly retired people. No kids around. Fab restaurant nearby. Close to La Corderie which wanted to visit and Le Hermione which we wanted to see before it sailed. Took ferry up river and back. Google train link to L Rochelle.
Review 40:Pool area needs upgrading to more modern spa expectations. Had to find staff to open bar late afternoon and evening. Few nibbles avaiable except a pint of nuts!!! This was our day off in a 2 week cycling holiday and it didn't live up to 4 * expectations.
Review 41:Excellent evening meal. Great receptionist. Bikes were parked in ballroom
Review 42:The room was tired and dated looking and in need of refurbishing. The only meal taken was breakfast and was a hit or miss if you managed to get food etc. One staff, disorganised, failed to top up hot water for tea and coffee and all guests were left hanging around for juices, plates etc, and tables to be cleared.
Review 43:The location was excellent, On the side of the river and marina, and set in the historical setting that will make this a prime area. When you could get the food it was tasty and of quality.
Review 44:Pool furniture rather dilapidated. Expensive for the overall quality of room and food.
Review 45:Very comfortable bed. Excellent service in restaurant. A fabulous position in a very interesting town.
Review 46:kids got a 'sshhhh' from a member of staff while in the pool as there was a function on. I don't care about functions, kids make noise when playing in a pool, deal with it.
Review 47:lovely room, pretty hotel, nice pool, great location.
Review 48:Lovely room with a bar and piano but neither was ever used. The receptionist had to be called to get a drink in there. All four of us had the pork and artichokes for the evening meal and nobody liked it at all. Confusing bar bills.
Review 49:Lovely hotel in nice grounds. Gardens and pool area very attractive. Superior rooms were very good.
Review 50:The rooms are looking a bit tired.
Review 51:Proximity to old town as well as to museums and walk along the adjoining river. It offers all facilities you require.
Review 52:Stayed previously. Brilliant location and setting.restaurant very nice.
Review 53:Restaurant seemed rather expensive.
Review 54:Pleasant stop-off location. Interesting history to building and surroundings,
Review 55:jacuzzi out of action restaurant too expensive
Review 56:location,pool, staff and rooms
Review 57:More on site car parking would be helpful.
Review 58:Perfect situation and facilities. Friendly efficient staff. Comfortable room.
Review 59:No English TV despite it being advertised in the programme guide
Review 60:quiet location
Review 61:Very difficult to find
Review 62:Beautiful setting
Review 63:la situation le restaurant
Review 64:No shower curtain!
Review 65:The location was great - very beautiful and as I was attending the Summer Sound festival it was perfectly placed.
Review 66:Dark corridors
Review 67:Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and clean room, good swimming pool, great location next to the river
Review 68:There was nothing to not like, perhaps just the décor a little dated.
Review 69:Friendly informative staff, Very good breakfast
Review 70:Amazing setting
Review 71:No soap in room on arrival Minimal staffing - none in bar Not 4 star value
Review 72:Location
Review 73:location, it is in need of an update... interior a little dated. Didn't bother me though as it was clean. I would go back.
Review 74:rooms would benefit from some updating
Review 75:Location, the physical environment of the hotel, the restaurant & the staff
Review 76:Reported light failing in toilet but never fixed. Hotel needs updating
Review 77:Lovely staff, good food, ideal location in Rochefort
Review 78:Corridors very dark and a funny smell in them. Very quiet only saw 4 other guests so no atmosphere
Review 79:Situation beside River Garden and Pool
Review 80:first class, staff very nice and helpful room nice good placement all good after a long drive.
Review 81:Room pretty basic for a four star
Review 82:Friendly staff
Review 83:Energy saving lighting on corridors is annoying but understandable.
Review 84:Location is superb - being part of historic navy site. Staff are very good, and being a small hotel on one floor is just right. Walk across harbour gate opposite entrance for really good Moules and frites.
Review 85:Disappointed with the quality of the room. Although advertised as parking available on site, the space available is somewhat limited and one may find the hotel car park full.
Review 86:Excellent restaurant and food. Excellent environment. Good place to stay with dogs.
Review 87:Bathroom a bit tired, in-house parking could be better organised (with a few white lines!)
Review 88:Historic building, excellent restaurant, good swimming pool and surrounding area. Superb riverside location next to Louis XIV's royal rope works and near the magnificent replica frigate "Hermione," now nearing completion.
Review 89:Room decor a little tired, shower over bath could have been better.
Review 90:Great location, staff very good with our two dogs. Restaurant excellent. Easy to find, well signed.
Review 91:The rooms were a little smaller than I would have expected from a 4 star hotel, and whilst the ground floor was up to scratch, the bedrooms are in need of some refurbishment.
Review 92:Very nice hotel with helpful and friendly staff, superb location. We did not eat in the hotel, but the restaurant had a good outlook, over the river and La Corderie.
Review 93:Car cannot be unloaded at hotel door and there is no porterage service. It is a good hotel but there is no service to match the price and pretension. Given misinformation about distance and opening hours of pharmacy - serious for disabled person.
Review 94:The location of the hotel and the outlook
Review 95:Small carpark, so had to park in public carpark outside hotel.
Review 96:Arrived at Hotel to be met by friendly, helpful receptionist. Roomslarge and comfortable. The hotel is situated next to river amongsthistroic buildings. I had dinner in restaurant which was excellent withhelpful but not over bearing waiter. Breakfast good for French hotel.
Review 97:Excellent food at a reasonable price. Excellent location right beside ancient Corderie Royale, home of the early French and Napoleon's Navies and fantastic rebuilt frigate "Hermoine"
Review 98:The room was not my idea of 4* - no power shower and nowhere to sit and do make-up in a decent light with a mirror. The waterproof undersheet was HORRIBLE and NOT what one would expect in this grade of hotel!
Review 99:The location was excellent and the staff friendly
Review 100:Very dark corridors - feeling of tiredness about the place
Review 101:Lovely location interesting history
Review 102:Very Classy Joint
Review 103:The fitness hall.Old and not clean.
Review 104:The view.
Review 105:Food which was over elaborate and did not respect the the qualitiy of the ingredients
Review 106:Relaxed atmospere with pool
Review 107:its location and the resturant
Review 108:Items missing in room Not worth its 4* Rooms are obsolete despite light refurbishment
Review 109:Value for money Location Nice building
Review 110:The hotel restaurant was very pricey
Review 111:The setting by the river
Review 112:Nothing to dislike
Review 113:Lovely hotel, well situated, an overnight stay on the return trip from the South of France
Review 114:friendly, helpful,staff.historical location.
Review 115:restaurant was expensive for the quality offered. bedroom facilities were 'tired'
Review 116:Very good and welcoming reception.
