Reviews for Black Horse Hotel
Review 1:Had to wait a long time to be served our evening meal on one night, but it was very busy. Needed more staff to cope with the numbers.
Review 2:Love Grassington. Excellent walking.Very pretty Xmas decorations and shops. Liked the ambiance of hotel. Log fires added much to this. Friendly and informal . Staff most pleasant and helpful. Very good breakfasts. Beds comfy. All very clean.
Review 3:I wasn't happy to be asked to pay the outstanding balance in full before our arrival, "in case we didn't turn up". I'd made the booking, paid the deposit - this should be sufficient. Tried not to let it take the edge off an otherwise very pleasant stay.
Review 4:Food and drink were excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and we coped despite tiny bathroom. Central location and parking permit made our stay very convenient for Dickensian Xmas Fayre!
Review 5:On our 2nd morning it took 45 mins to get breakfast that was pre-ordered the day before. Unacceptable . 6 tables had same problem. When the poached egg arrived it looked like a boiled egg without shell. Car parking approx 1 kilometre from hotel, but they did give you a pass for free parking
Review 6:Location, staff very friendly and helpfull. Pub very busy due to Dickensian festival. Good wifi. Very comfy beds.
Review 7:New carpets and paint here and there in hallways wouldn't go amiss Short breakfast time, 0830 to 0900, not long enough.
Review 8:Good staff, good location. Nice view from our bedroom. Breakfast very good.
Review 9:The hotel was ok ,the room could have been cleaner, could be more choice at breakfast ie yogurt, fresh/tin fruit, paid top price for room, not worth the money, Parking, not made clear that it is difficult to park!
Review 10:Grassington is a quaint place, a nice place to visit. The food in the hotel was very nice , the staff very helpful.
Review 11:Need to think about how to organise breakfast better, i.e., they should come to your table when you arrive at breakfast and take the order, this will remove opportunities for the errors that were occurring. It just seemed disorganised.
Review 12:All staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 13:Room was old and tired looking which wouldn't normally be a problem except the price they charge for it is far to much. Milk in the room was off both mornings. Parking was difficult.
Review 14:Excellent location friendly staff and loved the village and locals
Review 15:N/A
Review 16:A well organised hotel; good food, restaurant and bar. Rooms ensuite with all the usual facilities provided. Restaurant menu good choice and pre-order breakfast night before. Staff very helpful.
Review 17:The only down side was the evening meal, not a great choice of meals and portions were very small. After a day walking a good hearty meal is needed and this was a disappointment!
Review 18:This was a great location for dog owners to stay and the Black Horse has a friendly atmosphere and helpful staff.Rooms were clean and comfortable and the English breakfast was good.
Review 19:Rooms were a little tired, no hairdryer. When the quality of the bacon is so good it is a shame to be let down by cheap sausages and cheap tea bags. No Yorkshire tea in the dales, shocking!
Review 20:Fantastic staff, very friendly and accomodating. Great Bacon! Well organised breakfast service Fantastic power shower
Review 21:Arrived at 9.05 to be told Restaurant was closed and most likely so was the rest of the town (not the hotels fault granted) after a 4 hour journey not what you want to hear!
Review 22:Friendly staff
Review 23:pub lacked a little atmosphere from when we visited a few years previously
Review 24:excellent, central location. warm, comfortable room/bed. clean, modern bathroom with powerful shower
Review 25:Well over priced. needs refurbishing.Basic .I usually stop in better places. the reviews I read were not accurate .I believe the old owner has moved away and it is being managed.
Review 26:location.The village is top class. don't stay at the Black Horse . Well overpriced.Food is eatable thats it.
Review 27:Room size fairly small, but in character with the Inn. A little difficult up the stairs with suitcases for over seventies.
Review 28:staff couldnt have been more helpful. Made us more than welcome.
Review 29:Unfortunately but not the hotels fault I don't think but wifi signal was very poor but hey surely for a few days we can live without Facebook. Lol.
Review 30:The staff are so nice, even the chef came out and shook hands with us on our last morning, such a nice gesture. Would definitely go back.
Review 31:On 2nd floor - no handrail on second set of stairs. Minor things - no shelf for soap, shampoo etc in shower. Only mirror on back of door - too far for me to see clearly to dry my hair without my glasses!
Review 32:Friendly staff who were very helpful. Breakfast was good.
Review 33:It said hair dryer but we didn't have one. We paid in full when we booked online, but they thought we had only paid a deposit.
Review 34:Good qualitity bedroom and restaurant.
Review 35:Although free WiFi was advertised, we could not obtain a reception. I could not obtain a reception on my mobile phone.- I acknowledge that this is probably not something that the hotel could change, it's to do with the local area. We were asked to complete the breakfast form on arrival. We stayed 2 nights and didn't realise we would have the same breakfast on the 2nd day.
Review 36:We were visiting Grassington for a family celebration. The hotel was in a great location for the celebration and for seeing the local beauty spots. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And apologetic when our table for breakfast was not prepared.
Review 37:Having to order breakfasts 4 days in advance Rooms still not serviced at 4pm when we had been walking for 6 hours 9 am breakfast late if you wanted to start your day early. Surly and unfriendliness of majority of staff. Food overpriced- £12 for a burger on a all brioche bun. I could go on but no pointed
Review 38:In the very centre of grassington
Review 39:The English breakfast was horrible. Cheap sausages, funny tasting bacon, mushrooms burnt and weird. Just very basic and it wouldn't require much effort to make breakfast a better experience. The poached egg was done well however.
Review 40:This place is in a lovely central location in a very nice small town. Overall it was very comfortable.
Review 41:We were going to a wedding in Burnsall (3 miles away) we booked local taxi the day before & he didn't turn up obviously nothing to do with hotel just be aware it isn't easy to get about without a car !
Review 42:It was the best pub in the village staff were all really friendly room clean & comfy
Review 43:Room overly hot at first as radiator left on full. Bed quite soft. Noise from people leaving the pub at night.
Review 44:Quick check in. Rooms well equiped and tidy. Shower powerful. Nice towels. Convenient for centre of village.
Review 45:Friendly and helpful staff and excellent location for our walking holiday with a group of friends. We enjoyed our meal in the restaurant in the evening
Review 46:Breakfast didn't start until 9am on at the weekend which made it hard to get an early start. The food in the pub could be better, but plenty of other options are only meters away
Review 47:Great location, friendly staff - we had a fantastic and very relaxing time.
Review 48:Nothing, everything was good for us. May not be a place for children?
Review 49:Good place if you like a pub and restaurant on an evening, in goodlocation in Grassington. We ate in restaurant and had a good meal.Saturday evening Karaoke night, had fun, first time ever, but weenjoyed it.
Review 50:This is not a complaint, more an observation. Room 7 requires a grab rail in the shower. I found it difficult to get in and out. I pointed it out to the landlord,I am sure he will attend to it.
Review 51:what is not to like about this hotel. All the staff were most helpful. The food is out of this world, I recommend the steak in ale pie, the best I have ever had. It says something good for this place, when a landlord from another pub comes in for a pint
Review 52:room small, very little drawer space, bathroom needs a hook for clothes when taking a shower, nowhere to put toiletries.
Review 53:staff were fantastic, food very good, had dinner each evening prices reasonable
Review 54:noise at night after pub closed, dark rooms with poor lighting, rubbish breakfast (think £2.99 greasy spoon standard) I've stayed in better places at a third of the price
Review 55:location was good
Review 56:A very enjoyable stay at an attractive quirky old hotel in Grassington market place. Staff invariably pleasant and upbeat who coped admirably with my daughter's complicated dietary and heating requirements.
Review 57:Although the bedroom was clean, I could smell a wet dog odour. Not being a dog person this was slightly unpleasant, but unavoidable in a pet friendly establishment.
Review 58:The staff were friendly, food was good and hot! Central village location, comfortable stay.
Review 59:Limited breakfast; basic not-too-healthy cereal and fruit juice only option before cooked breakfast. Fresh fruit and fat-free yoghurt would have been welcome additions.
Review 60:Friendly, effective staff. Good location.
Review 61:Nearly useless wifi. While the food is great at breakfast, we could not say the same for dinner.

Review 120:position of hotel
Review 121:Excellent breakfast .
Review 122:Service at breakfast time seemed untrained eg coffee regularly running out.
Review 123:Breakfast good. Gentle Jazz night was absolutely brilliant.
Review 124:the poor service
Review 125:The room was small and cramped
Review 126:The breakfast was very good
Review 127:My only complaint was the extremely cheap toilet seat which was unstable and uncomfortable.
Review 128:Warm welcome, very helpful staff. Good breakfast, excellent food in restaurant.
Review 129:Little bit worried that there isn't an alarm clock for weary travellers. I know better and bring my own but, if I had not have had one, I would have been showing up for breakfast at 9:30am because your sleep is so undisturbed. Tissues?
Review 130:Loved the location and the most friendly & REALLY helpful staff, Matt & Ellie especially + of course the owner John , who always seems to be on hand. I had a lovely evening meal and 2 very tasty perfect, poached egg breakfasts. Slept really peacefully and a spider will wake me up! Loved the fact that you had a "desk" for writing postcards etc, AND that you had a relaxing chair.
