Reviews for The Old Custom House
Review 1:Room was very good, clean & comfy with a great view, hospitality tray very well stocked. They even put balloons & champagne out for the birthday boy !
Review 2:That breakfast wasn't included and that the bar wasn't serving food as that was one of the reasons we choose the custom house.
Review 3:Loved that we got upgraded to the honeymoon suite.
Review 4:Room very small. Couldn't have stayed more than a couple of nights. Breakfast finishing at 9.30 and check out 10.30 on Sunday too early. We stayed to relax after a hard few months at work and would have liked a lazier departure on Sunday.
Review 5:Liked the location. Friendly staff. Good food in the pub. Room had nice views of harbour although it was small.
Review 6:A big cobweb in the bar area. must have been seen by staff also but no one got rid of it. Shower didn't work properly first night and no hot water the second day. They did give us an unprompted reduction of £20 which I thought was pretty reasonable. However, despite this and staff were suitably apologetic, I would definitely stay here again
Review 7:Location great, right on the harbour Bar with good beer and wine at a reasonable price. Food not bad either
Review 8:Toilet paper had run out. Bottled water was not replenished. Lost a carrier bag with items in, which looks like was thrown away as they thought it was rubbish.
Review 9:The room was fantastic, location was second to none. Food very good
Review 10:I found the shower lacked in power with it being an electric shower, maybe a new shower head might help?
Review 11:All aspects of our stay was very good indeed. The room (No 1) was very comfortable and spacious. The bar was great and the staff second to none.
Review 12:Although the breakfast was plentiful. The eggs were overcooked every morning even when we asked for soft boiled eggs and soft poached eggs also the bacon was a little dry. Sorry to moan but you look forward to your breakfast.
Review 13:Room was lovely with views over the harbour location perfect. Very clean, the bed was really comfortable.
Review 14:We loved laid back, neat and cosy style of the room and the view of the harbour from room 6 was beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful and our stay was really enjoyable. We couldn't have asked for a better location either.
Review 15:Non applicable.
Review 16:Beautiful location-First class facilities.Staff were efficient caring and attention to detail was just fantastic. We have booked again for next December.Thank you Customs House for a beautiful experience.
Review 17:Small over heated room with awful view over some roof scruffy roof tops.
Review 18:Breakfast in lovely restaurant over looking the harbour. Hotel in a very convenient location. (We could walk everywhere from the hotel and didn't need to use the car all weekend).
Review 19:The teenagers after midnight letting off fireworks on the harbour. Guess there's not much to do in an evening... Not in anyway a fault for the hotel tho
Review 20:Lovely room, great location and very helpful staff
Review 21:The breakfast was a little disappointing if I am honest. The eggs and salmon were lovely but the bacon in the full English was over cooked and the sausage was not what we expected of an area with such a strong food heritage. No black pudding or fried bread! Also, having to use a machine to dispense our tea was disappointing as it came with a legacy 'hot milk' froth on it from the previously dispensed cappuccino! Surely tea pots and cafetieres can be justified for the price of B&B?
Review 22:Brilliantly positioned for Padstow and surrounding area. Very comfortable bed and overall the room was spotless. The team at the Old Custom House were really friendly and could not have been more helpful
Review 23:Nothing to not like!
Review 24:Allocated a beautiful double room overlooking the harbour which made out stay. No need to leave the Custom house for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Lovely local friendly staff.
Review 25:Location, facilities and friendliness, breakfast was lovely looking out to the boats and water. A room with this view would of been the icing on the cake! Lots of areas for walking.
Review 26:the layout of the bath room was a little odd, limited space around the toilet.
Review 27:The location was really great, right on the harbor. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We requested some extra's which were accommodated without any problems.
Review 28:N/A
Review 29:You can not fault this hotel, everything was just perfect, friendly staff, amazing breakfast with view to die for, wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in padstow, A+++++
Review 30:Our only complaint was our room location in the hotel although immaculate was overlooked by lots of windows and workers were often outside so we had to leave the blinds closed. We would definitely come again but request a view overlooking the harbour.
Review 31:The hotel was amongst it all and it feels like you are really living the life of a local . Staff very friendly and the breakfast was cooked perfectly not greasy at all.
Review 32:The best thing about the Old Customs House is the location. This is why its quite pricey for a B&B. The rooms are comfortable, tho not luxurious. Great breakfast. Overall good value for money.
Review 33:The only slight complaint was the lack of hotel parking which although there was the pay and display meant it was an extra cost on top.
Review 34:The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and the location was excellent. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Review 35:Shower in the room wasn't working so had to shower in an empty room. Also had the noise of a unit outside our room which was on through the night disturbing our sleep.
Review 36:in the centre of Padstow which was very good. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
Review 37:According to booking.com website we received a good discount on the room rate but when we got there we were charged the publicised room rate which was as booked.
Review 38:Location and view. Cornish breakfast was amazing.
Review 39:No lift - although this is not a problem for most people. Shower hose was very old and worn - restricting flow to a trickle. Receptionist took note and promised to put right for next guests. Severe car parking problems. A large public car park is just across the road - for £7 per day if you can find a space (although very tight, making it difficult for large cars).
Review 40:Historic property; lots of character, great location.
Review 41:We absolutely loved the location, the room with the sea view was beautiful, watching the world go by from the window was very relaxing. The breakfast was excellent - a thoroughly, enjoyable break with plenty to do.
Review 42:Considering the room was quite large, lounge or bucket chairs would have been more comfortable. Carpet stained, bathroom floor dirty Mould on window frames and paint flaked off.
Review 43:The location, Room looking over the Harbour. Staff very pleasant. Meal in restaurant was really good. Very comfortable bed.
Review 44:Walls were a little thin, wife heard the man in the room next door snoring over my own snores!
Review 45:Loved the location and all the staff were so friendly and helpful.
Review 46:We returned to visit Padstow after 34 years. Not a lot had changed, still a lovely place to be. Plenty of little individual shops and lots of places to eat good food and drink.
Review 47:Permanent open window of bedroom unable to close it! Small cramped bathroom and not fit for anyone over 5ft10 as the ceiling beam is too low when taking a shower.
Review 48:Good Location - good for 1 nights stay maximum
Review 49:Parking is a major problem. We gave up when we arrived just after lunch, and headed out of town to kill a couple of hours, returning late afternoon. Still had difficulty finding a space, but finally managed to get a space in the harbour car park which is directly opposite the hotel, even though the sign at the front of the car park said it was full. We found Wifi very slow, which was frustrating. Overall, we felt that the hotel was overpriced for the facilities and accommodation. It seemed to lack those extra little touches that one would expect at the price charged. Breakfast felt rather rushed as the restaurant opened at 10.30am for the public(for cream teas!) and there did not appear to be a private lounge for hotel guests(perhaps we missed it) although there is a hairdressers on the first floor which is open to anyone. This is really a pub / café/ restaurant with rooms. We had paid the same price for a stay in a splendid country house hotel in Devon, which was far and away superior. The premium put on the price is presumably due to its central location, and the fact that it is in Padstow
Review 50:Lovely location on the harbour front, in the midst of everything. We had a harbour view room which was nice to have, as we could look out at the estuary and the harbour, but unfortunately our view of Rock which is directly opposite, was obscured by the public toilets directly in front of the hotel. Clean and comfortable room. Reception staff helpful. Overall an acceptable central place to stay in Padstow for a night or two, albeit, in our opinion, overpriced.
Review 51:Our view wasn't great, we were on one of the top floors with a window and french doors which looked out onto part of the roof/courtyard type area with staff walking past occasionally so kept the curtains shut, but this didn't bother us too much, not all the rooms can have fantastic views! Also there seemed to be a consistent humming noise from a generator or something? But again didn't bother us too much.
Review 52:Location amazing, Very comfortable, nicely decorated and clean room, En-suite shower room very nice and clean, Lovely staff, Gave us champagne and strawberries in our room when my husband rang ahead and told them it was our first anniversary which was lovely
Review 53:Creeking floor boards all around the hotel, especially, the room above. A busker singing outside our bedroom every night and the noise from the pub directly below our room.
Review 54:The location was perfect for most attractions. Nice restaurants in the bay. Helpful staff during stay.
Review 55:Car parking at the hotel is non existent and the public car park opposite is expensive and crowded. We didn't like the fact that dogs were allowed into the dining areas.
Review 56:Excellent harbour-side location
Review 57:Room was a little bit tired & energy saving light bulbs in bathroom took so long to light the room had to leave on when we were out. Parking was an extra cost, it's not too bad but for the price of the room should be covered by the hotel. Charging luxury prices but definitely not luxury accommodation. We stayed in an amazing luxury B&B near St Ives which knocked the spots off this for less than the price per room here. Obviously it's Padstein but I feel they are jumping on the bandwagon and overcharging for the standard of accommodation. Would stay elsewhere next time.
Review 58:Fantastic location in the heart of the village Breakfast was lovely
Review 59:using the tea and coffee machine for breakfast
Review 60:we always like everything,Sally on front of house is welcoming every time we arrive. It is like coming home.
Review 61:The stairs leading up to bedroom had quite a musty smell.
Review 62:We really enjoyed our stay here. Nice size room which was clean and tidy. The breakfast was really nice and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Great bar with free wifi and the location was just excellent.
Review 63:We had the very top room with involved several narrow winding stair cases which proved difficult with a suitcase. A porter could have helped.
Review 64:View from the room was amazing. Room was very tastefully decorated and clean with excellent facilities.
Review 65:WHERE THE ROOM WAS, ROOM 17 HAS ALL THE AIRCON FANS AS A VIEW AND ALSO THE NOISE OF THEM WHEN ON.BUT NOT TO MOAN IT WAS A LAST MINUTE BOOKING.
Review 66:LOCATION,
Review 67:Our room was very small and our friends room was next to some sort of generator which kept them awake.
Review 68:The rooms were very clean and the location is brilliant. Pub food was fab also a good breakfast.
Review 69:Room looked tired and a bit shabby. The windows really needed a good clean!
Review 70:The location is perfect - so central and with a great view of the harbour. Despite being above a pub it was very quiet.
Review 71:We travelled with a baby and there was no lift and narrow stairs for getting the pram/buggy up and down from outside to the room. Yes we could collapse the frame down but meant we had to carry it along with baby and seat up. Would have been good to have a lift.
Review 72:Spacious rooms. Nice breakfast.
Review 73:Upon telling the receptionist at check in that it was only the 2nd time in 8 years that my wife and I had been away for the night with no children, she upgraded us to a superior room for no extra cost. She was amazing.
Review 74:We also had a room without a view and had to close the curtains as the view was of a courtyard with cooling units etc. The shower also didn't work in this room.
Review 75:The location and front of house staff are excellent. The rooms with a view are superb.
Review 76:Stated there was car parking but we had to find space in car park which was too much of a problem as we found a space after a while.
Review 77:Situation of accomadation and decor.Room 4 was brilliant and I would like a room facing the harbour when we come again!
Review 78:Poor bathroom facilities although management promised to rectify the next day. Parking only in public car park which was full on arrival so we had to use park and ride.
Review 79:Very good restaurant and friendly staff.
Review 80:We were lucky arriving around 5pm...the car park opposite had a space...but if you do arrive "peak" Padstow holiday time don't depend on a space being available, you could use the park and ride for £4.00 per car...and move your car down to the car park later when day trippers go home and more space is available.?
Review 81:location location location.....! seaside harbour/ boat trips/seagulls/independent "arty" shops...buskers, music. warm welcome, comfy beds, and don't miss the chance to order the best portion of haddock I have ever tasted for breakfast..(best meal of my holiday...despite booking evening meal at a very famous local seafood restaurant !)
Review 82:The first night our room was small and dark stuffy with scaffolding and view onto the roof and extractor fans which ran ALL night and the noise was horrendous like a jet plane! The next day complained and upgraded to the honeymoon suite which was very nice.
Review 83:The location
Review 84:Lots of stairs to negotiate. Staff rather indifferent. Bathroom very Spartan. Leaking shower.
Review 85:Very central location and nice views from the windows. Pleasant and comfortable room.
Review 86:Bathroom decoration bit worn, needed extractor fan to deal with moisture. Not an issue for us but lots of stairs.
Review 87:Large bed Nicely decorated large room Location in centre of town right by harbour
Review 88:Parking in Padstow is busy We used the park & Ride service .
Review 89:Fantastic location in the heart of Padstow . Helpful staff who went the extra mile to make you have a wonderful stay . Loved the breakfast plenty of choice . Will return soon .
Review 90:Room was a bit small but had all we needed including a great shower. As the hotel has no parking you park in the pay and display accross the road which gets very crowded .
Review 91:Great location apart frim the early morning seagull chorus.
Review 92:The shower was very weak and the lighting in the bathroom was too dim.
Review 93:The location of this hotel is perfect right on the harbour, parking is not included but there is a car park directly opposite.
Review 94:Just one small criticism, in the en suite the toilet seat was totally the wrong size for the pan and was uncomfortable when sitting on it. The stairs could be a problem, as there is no lift and this should be pointed out to guests, when booking their accommodation.
Review 95:Very central for all amenities and enjoyed the short break while it lasted.
Review 96:Room Number 20 is poor. Dirty stains on bath and shower curtain. No shower cubical. Unclean behind sink and bath hand rail. Toilet seat would not stay up. ladders outside bedroom window requiring window must be kept shut. Very overlooked back room over kitchen. Very noisy mobile air conditioning meant no sleep. Stayed in 7 great pubs in Cornwall this week unfortunately this 8th was the worst and extremely expensive.
Review 97:harbour front location
Review 98:Our bed was rather too soft for us (had it perhaps seen better days..?) and the shower was not the most powerful.
Review 99:A great location, friendly staff and a super tea room made the Old Customs House a great place to stay in Padstow. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the menu looked excellent so we would think it a good place to try. The bar was large and a good place to sit in the evening after a post-dinner walk. Recommended
Review 100:The view out of the window is of 10+ air con units. The noise and vibration from the air con seemed to be 24x7 which rattled the windows and walls. The room is situated above the main kitchen so noise of pots and pans being thrown about until closing time.
Review 101:The location is great of the hotel, the room is well appointed and the breakfasts excellent
Review 102:Broken hairdryer on arrival, no fan (room very hot), no case rack. Small room-no anniversary upgrade offered. Hair salon in the hotel was directly opposite our room. Started work at 8am this morning, talking to customers and shouting over hairdryer!
Review 103:Fantastic location with parking in the car park opposite. Décor of the newly refurbished hotel was lovely. Breakfast was excellent. I travel a lot and this was one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had.
Review 104:I was really impressed with the caring attitude. Nothing was too much trouble. I even left something behind, and they actually sent it back to me with no extra charge..great !
Review 105:Wasn't anything I didn't like xx
Review 106:Fantastic location right next to harbour.lovely hotel /bar and restaurant.Breakfast was brilliant so much choice, set you up for the day.Everyone was so friendly x
Review 107:The room was small and the waitress on on second day breakfast made us feel like we weren't welcome, everything seemed like too much to ask! I work in customer service and felt she made diners uncomfortable
Review 108:The bed was very comfortable. The waiter on on first day breakfast was lovely.
Review 109:The bed was very soft - only an issue if you are used to a firmer bed.
Review 110:Excellent location, wonderful breakfast. We had Room #8, a corner room with lovely views of the river and the sea.
Review 111:Very expensive at £160 a night (B&B) and a very small room. There is a view across part of the harbour once you have ignored the public convenience block! Breakfast no croissants or cut fresh fruit like melon and pineapple - only grapefruit and prunes!
Review 112:The staff were excellent and the bed was very comfortable. Bar and restaurant very good and food good quality and presentation Breakfast lady (blonde hair) excellent
Review 113:My wife has to keep her medicine in the fridge. There was none in the room, we found one in the pub. Inconvenient. Not good for value
Review 114:the breakfast. truly well cooked, well served
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:The staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was overlooking the harbour which was lovely. Padstow is a good base and there was enough to do for the car to be left in the car park for the duration of our visit. Thank you The Custom House.
Review 117:No fridge in the room and the shower was very slow. Power shower needed!!
Review 118:Lovely view from our room. The staff were helpful and courteous. Lovely breakfast.
Review 119:Toilet seat was cheap and nasty and slipped off the bowl constantly. showering in a bath ! Access to room through so many fire doors -Its seemed excessive.
Review 120:Dinning
Review 121:Bed in the honeymoon suite was very worn!! Cleanliness was okay on the surface but room was a little tired. Water was unbelievably & dangerously HOT from the tap. Please fix before someone seriously burns. Parking can be difficult.
Review 122:Great location, in the harbour front, amazing base for our stay, honeymoon suite was huge, bath was superb. Only made breakfast once and it was good. Lovely views over estuary.
Review 123:The car park near the hotel fills up fast in the morning but if you are out for the day, you can normally get a space late afternoon / early evening.
Review 124:The central location is great. It's handy for local shops and restaurants. The hotel has it's own pub.
Review 125:Did not expect perfection from such an old building but could have been better.
Review 126:Great staff, delicious breakfast and stunnong location in the waterfront heart of Padstow.
Review 127:There is no parking at the hotel, public parking is £7 for a 24hr permit opposite in the harbour car park.
Review 128:Padstow is a great place to visit with plenty of pubs, restaurants and little shops. Overlooking the harbour the pub hotel is very central, the room was large and airy with good facilities.
Review 129:Had to walk suitcase across car park, but not really an issue.
Review 130:Great location, very comfy bed, lovely room ( no.8). Would definitely stay here again. Better than the Metropole last year
Review 131:Minor presentation points - replace shower hose and mosaic tiles around basin just to perfect the overall look. Otherwise lovely styling
Review 132:Styling of rooms good beds good breakfast
Review 133:Very noisy - could hear the guy next door snoring. Bed way too soft and uncomfortable, shower was appalling - no pressure (room at top of building).
Review 134:Great location right in the harbour with views over the boats. Nice room, good facilities (TV etc)
Review 135:No parking at hotel but car park opposite was fine
Review 136:Central with very comfortable rooms inn unbeatable location. Thus was out 3rd stay at the Custom House
Review 137:He toilet didn't work but the staff were really great and got everything sorted in the end
Review 138:Perfect place for a lovely getaway, staff were really friendly and attentive and the breakfast was lovely!
Review 139:Nothing we didn't like!
Review 140:Location was fantastic, room was just right, lovely views over the harbour, we have never slept in such a comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb, would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing break in Padstow. Make sure you get a harbour view. Can't fault anything. Staff were lovely and helpful. Had a meal in the bar one night and it was excellent, and very reasonably priced.
Review 141:There was an Air lock in the water system which meant the shower kept cutting out... They where very apologetic though and it didn't ruin our stay for the one night... had it been longer then it would have been more of an issue.
Review 142:The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff where very Friendly. but the best bit was the scenery a beautiful location.
The Fine Print
The restaurant will be closed until 29 February 2016. A Continental breakfast will be available in the coffee shop at a cost of GBP 8.
