Reviews for Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa

Review 1:There are not bathrooms in the corridors of each floor, or perhaps I didn't find any?

Review 2:The staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast is totally out of expectation.

Review 3:Bathroom needs refurbishing , shower head and shower rail loose . Bedroom pools of water coming in through window seams , had to use two bath towels to soak it up . Meal in dining room ( evening ) far too salty and far too expensive for what it was . Bar meal the next night much better .

Review 4:Bed comfy , staff pleasant , breakfast excellent .

Review 5:The hotel in certain places is looking a bit shabby and tired, bedrooms could do with being updated to a more modern look.

Review 6:The hotel is ideally located, all the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. Good facilities and good bar and restaurant food

Review 7:Would have liked a view but our room had frosted glass overlooking the air con ducts.

Review 8:Nothing too much trouble for the staff. From the maintenance guy to the management. Courteous and polite.

Review 9:Although the bathroom in the room was large, the shower/bath was a bit outdated, the shower was very low pressure.

Review 10:The staff were very accommodating, the spa facilities were excellent and the beds were so comfortable, I had the best nights sleep.

Review 11:A couple of aspects of room were a little dated, bottom of wardrobe doors scuffed and bath panel showing damage, room was also somewhat smaller than we expected, didn't give us the 'WOW' factor as first time guests in the hotel.

Review 12:The attention to detail and efficiency the staff have.

Review 13:Lighting in wardrobe area insufficient. Room was a little tired. Shower facilities could be better - we did not care for the shower curtain over the bath. There needs to be a decent mirror near a socket for hair drying / straightening etc.

Review 14:Very comfortable bed. View from room was good. Breakfast was excellent. Location was well placed and near to town centre.

Review 15:The spa has a claustrophobic approach up steps and down steps, anyone with impaired mobility would struggle. There are about 3? Chairs and no room for further loungers at the sides, robes and towels overflowed from the hangers onto the floor. The brassware and doors to the main lift had dribbles and fingerprints all over it. The general feeling of our group was it was more of a 4 star than 5, but we felt the price was more 4 star in all fairness.

Review 16:Loved the staff throughout the hotel. All pleasant and attentive, outstanding in fact. Bedrooms are contemporary, bathrooms clean and well decorated. The breakfast selection was outstanding. It's about 7 minutes stroll to the centre of St Helier.

Review 17:wake up call at 7am when we never asked for one ,dining room, female dark hair wearing a dark suit was rude, nearly knocked me over when passing

Review 18:front of house and bar staff were excellent and Hugo most helpful.

Review 19:Our room appeared to be above the laundry room and was exceptionally hot and very uncomfortable. Opening the window only made it warmer (in December!!) Due to this we were unable to sleep. We raised with reception and were moved immediately

Review 20:Staff were professional, personable and very helpful

Review 21:All the staff were extremely kind in what was for our family a very difficult and sad time. The hotel is extremely comfortable and very close to the hospital. The breakfast was something to look forward to.

Review 22:Unfortunately there was one thing that really disepointed me,it was the dinner! I was served Steak and kidney pie with literally raw kidneys on the plate :(

Review 23:Locations was perfect,10 from the ST Halier shopping street. Room was specious ,clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much to ask. Friendly and helpful.

Review 24:The general decor of hotel and bedrooms was very dark and could do with lighter carpets and curtains.

Review 25:The staff were very friendly and service was excellent.

Review 26:We have stayed and visited The Grand hotel for 30 years, some changes have been made and not for the better, the bar was taken out and replaced with a Champagne bar which looks not only dated but tacky there is no draught lager how snotty! The Bar people do their job and show no warmth or emotion what so ever. Go to your sister hotel The L'Horizon and let them teach you how it should be done!

Review 27:The Grand is a lovely hotel! Clean and in a good position.

Review 28:Busy road directly out front ruins the view and can be noisy.

Review 29:Staff are friendly and eager to help. Location is good but from what I can tell, the radisson should have better sea views. Breakfast is good and Jacuzzi access is included :)

Review 30:The main road was very busy and noisy at times.

Review 31:The location was excellent and the staff extremely helpful and polite. The breakfast was fantastic. The room was very comfortable.

Review 32:Hotel is a bit tired and in need of a facelift in some areas.

Review 33:Great staff, attentive and friendly. Hotel is in good location with fantastic sea views and free parking is ideal. Fantastic taster menu at dinner in the restaurant and great breakfasts too.

Review 34:Nothing to add we would highly recommend

Review 35:The friendly staff and always smiling and ultimately always used my name which is key. The comfortable bed was the best we had slept in and missing it already.

Review 36:We found the menu of the restaurant a little limited.

Review 37:We liked the view from the window, the friendliness and willingness of the staff to please ,the spa area, a wonderful breakfast and the overall comfort.

Review 38:As part of the event we did feel like we were treated like children on occassions which I can prob understand as some adults acted as such. The bar prices quite expensive in comparison to other places.

Review 39:We always enjoy staying here, the staff were excellent especially George who looked after us well. Fabulous room(103), weather was great too. Our maid was lovely too.

Review 40:Service was poor, requested fresh towels and someone to have a look at an extremely noisy fan that was stopping us sleeping...we are still waiting! Beds very small and uncomfortable and signs of damp in common areas, which you can smell on entering the hallway to the rooms.

Review 41:location

Review 42:Just remember that this is an old building which has been refurbished. The floorboards creaked in every part of our room and the plumbing was very noisy.

Review 43:The room was clean and an acceptable size. Plenty of staff available and an excellent breakfast. Less than 10 minutes walk to the town centre.

Review 44:The beds are spring and uncomfortable worse than travelodge. The first female concierge judmental spoke to me like i was not important.

Review 45:The private cinema excellent you book a movie and its all yours.

Review 46:The cooked breakfast was cold each morning. The double bed was 2 singles strapped together, but they weren't level. The hotel is very corporate which makes it feel less friendly for independent travelers.

Review 47:Location

Review 48:The hotel was a poor 5* in need of decoration, painting, or wall and paintwork cleaning at least, very tired.

Review 49:The staff were first class. Excellent service. Lovely bedding.

Review 50:The hotel is in need of redecoration especially around the doors the skirting and the walls in the rooms are marked and look dirty, it is looking very worn and quite frankly overpriced for the condition. Also the web pictures are not accurate the rooms are a lot smaller my partner and I actually refused the first two rooms due to size and general quality. The walls were dirty and in need of a general cleaning in these rooms.

Review 51:Staff were very good and so was the overall service.

Review 52:N/A

Review 53:Given a free upgrade to a suite on arrival. Breakfast options were the best I'd ever seen, wish my eyes weren't bigger than my belly. Lovely concierge staff and check in staff.

Review 54:Hotel facilities not available to guests because they had been let out to private events; Lack of flexibility in terrace and champagne bar menus (eg could only have sandwich as part of a cream tea & £16.99)

Review 55:Most staff very helpful

Review 56:Our room was right next to the lift which was noisy at night and at breakfast time. The room was small, the air con noisy, we had a very small shower room. This should be no more than a 3* hotel.

Review 57:The location of this hotel cannot be faulted.

Review 58:Room could do with a refresh - dirty paintwork, difficulty closing balcony door. Shower curtain over bath is very dated.

Review 59:Staff well trained, level of service good. Breakfasts very good, lots of choice.

Review 60:Booked late so available classic room 134 had zero outlook. Windows glazed to block out Hotel pipework. Air conditioning noisy. Brasserie tried twice - service poor - food quality poor - portion size too small. Seriously overpriced! Steps to hotel do not meet Health and safety requirements. slipped off wet bottom step after the storm. Fractured two toes.

Review 61:Location excellent. Good facilities Staff considerate polite helpful. Breakfast provided good selection of gluten free options.

Review 62:Bathroom looked like it has had an upgrade recently, but bedroom and lift looked a bit tired.

Review 63:Helpful, friendly staff at reception, breakfast and bar. Lovely sunset views while enjoying bar snacks and drinks.

Review 64:We didn't eat in the restaurant because we felt it was a very limited menu. The tassili restaurant had some excellent choices but at £67 per head very expensive for a family. the brassiere was very good outside. Rooms noisy.

Review 65:The staff were always pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was varied and well presented.

Review 66:I did feel that the food was slightly over-priced with nothing simple - which is what is sometimes needed. However in their defence, when I asked about a simple sandwich - they came up with the goods!

Review 67:First and foremost the Staff. Customer service at it's absolute best. They have a knack of making every guest feel special

Review 68:Car parking is a bit of an issue with hardly any space to get out of your car even at the main entrance! But this is likely due to it's very central location, there is very limited parking in the whole of St Helier.

Review 69:Very good service, they are very helpful and courteous yet give you the space to get on with what you are there for! It's a 2 minute walk from the town with lovely views over the sea. We had an inner room with virtually no windows but it was so well designed and lighted that it didn't matter.

Review 70:No bad experiences just felt areas of hotel were tired looking carpets curtains etc

Review 71:Staff extremely helpful and friendly location good for us as a mature couple local buses really good

Review 72:The room we had overlooked an amusement park so was a little noisy at times. However it didn't bother us too much as we were always so tired by the end of each night that we fell straight asleep.

Review 73:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They delivered complimentary warm milk for my toddler son for his bedtime every night and one evening, kept the main restaurant open and waited on us until 11.15pm while we ate a late dinner.

Review 74:The room was not 5 star, more like 3 star and very expensive considering small size of the room.

Review 75:Breakfast, spa, location. The staff were most friendly and helpful.

Review 76:For a superior sea view room, it was rather small. No fixed mirror near socket in bedroom for doing hair/straightners. Had to keep moving portable one onto desk and then remove tea tray each time. Room was only turned down on one night. Hot tap made clanking noise whilst on. Toiletries not replaced each day. Rather noisy due to music and bar right outside room. Decour a bit tired and in need of refurbishment.

Review 77:Valet parking of our hire car Breakfast was good.

Review 78:Walls had lots of marks on them, floor in the room were creaking as you walk on them, Seats our side were not clean, Car park very small and bad. Food was OK.

Review 79:Staff were all very Nice, Bed was great,

Review 80:An absolutely fantastic hotel, the staff couldn't do enough to help and the facilities were excellent. Could not fault our experience here and will be returning.

Review 81:Nothing to note - a fabulous stay!

Review 82:The whole stay - from the time of check in we were so well looked after - fabulous staff especially Jose, Fabian and Jorge - simply first class!

Review 83:The only outside space is the terrace bar which is not relaxing for many reasons - it overlooks the busy main road & the building work going on next door. There is also nowhere to sit which is non-smoking and the service is very poor - waited almost an hour for a drink when it wasn't even busy. The rooms are disappointing, the classic room bathroom was very small and the only shower was over the bath. When we checked out we weren't even asked if we'd enjoyed our stay and they tried to send our airport taxi away having forgotten that they had ordered it for us ! All in all very poor value for money and in our opinion not worthy of 5 stars.

Review 84:Excellent breakfast & spa.

Review 85:The concierge did not provide adequate information His helpers had more accurate information

Review 86:Food was excellent Breakfast very good and outside dinning and staff there very accomodating

Review 87:I did get a bad steak in Victorias but the staff were very helpful and prepared another straightaway

Review 88:The staff are excellent and can't do enough for you, some people may find this too attentive. Location is excellent if you want to be in the centre and close to transport shops etc. facilities are lovely. The hotel is on a busy main road but we didn't hear anything with the window closed and even on the terrace you don't really notice it. The beds are so comfy I wanted to bring it home and lovely sea views.

Review 89:Bedroom decor all very 1970's brown, made the room dark. Air con noisy and controls in dressing room!

Review 90:Lovely shower and huge bathroom, loved the heated towel rail. Friendly staff throughout the hotel, all smiles and warm greetings. Terrace bar was a plus.

Review 91:The only disappointment was that you could not sit round the indoor pool and there was not outdoor pool.

Review 92:The staff at the hotel could not do enough for you. They were always smiling and being polite.

Review 93:Incorrect bills on two evenings in restaurant. Poor waiter service in terrace restaurant, food was not hot when we received it. Clean the brasswork in the lift, finger marks eveywhere.

Review 94:Very friendly staff

Review 95:Whilst our room was very comfortable, the carpet could have done with a good vacuuming and the tiles around the taps in the bath and the overflow outlet needed a good cleaning. Dinner in Victoria's was excellent

Review 96:Staff were all friendly and helpful and friendly.

Review 97:A couple of observations, 1) the main bar/lounge looked a little tired and in need of decoration and 2) the parking is tight, but this was very well managed by the excellent valet service.

Review 98:The standard of room, spa and the breakfast stand out. Easy to locate from the harbour and in a great position. Overall an excellent hotel for a short break.

Review 99:in our opinion the buffet breakfast was the only downer, the hot food we found to be warm not hot.

Review 100:The people and the hotel was fantastic, the spar is next to none. Really felt welcome The buffet breakfast:- there was an extremely large selection of food - you can also order food off the breakfast menu which we found lovely

Review 101:The hotel has limited outdoor space. When this is used for functions those of us paying £300 a night do not have anywhere to sit and have drink in comfort.

Review 102:Excellent staff excellent location.

Review 103:Service at breakfast and on the terrace bar was generally ok but in both areas it lacked the oversight of a maître de to ensure pele did not wait unduly long. One very minor complaint, but shared by three of our group, it was impossible to get a good gin and tonic. The only tonic was Fentimans, whose herbal infusions were not to our taste, and no alternative was available, but worse they were often warm and too little ice was provided.

Review 104:This was a very comfortable, very clean and well maintained hotel in a convenient location. The breakfasts were excellent. Staff were very friendly and courteous, in particular the door staff Ralph and Carlos.

Review 105:The room was not big enough to qualify as a double room and was clearly a single with a double bed. It was difficult for 2 people to move around at the same time. For some strange reason the window was frosted and the windows did not open so no view out at all. It felt like we were sleeping in a bathroom. Very odd. The shower curtain was fitted in the wrong place. the sink was blocked and the toilet was hard to flush. The food was good but the surroundings were bland and felt like a hall rather than a restaurant. The staff were over attentive and you felt like you were being watched all the time. Not a relaxing place to eat.

Review 106:Good facilities albeit a bit tired. 4 star trying to be 5 star

Review 107:Room and Bathroom were very tired and needed updating. Very noisy in the evening outside at the patio bar. This is also the only place to sit.

Review 108:Very good location. Lovely view from room.

Review 109:Well positioned on the sea front overlooking the bay and Elizabeth Castle. The staff were very attentative and friendly. Good choice of food for breakfast and nicely prepared. The spa, pool and gym facilities are excellent.

Review 110:The only window in the room/suite was small which made it a bit dark in the living area.

Review 111:The room/suite was superb. It had 2 tvs and good wifi. The outside terrace bar and restaurant had a great view over the castle and the beach. We didn't realise the Island Games were on so it was a bonus to see some of the events. We used the bus service to travel about. The bus stop was outside the hotel and the bus station was not far away. St Helier shopping was nearby as were good places to eat. We also hired bikes which was also a great way to get around. Would go back.

Review 112:Had no bad experience really except the Lift which was in need of cleaning & polish. Bedroom verandah not satisfactory.

Review 113:Staff very pleasant , helpful, nothing too much trouble. We think all the staff make this hotel an excellent place to stay .

Review 114:Decor & lighting in all rooms, especially bedrooms, very dark. Reception facilities hidden away in dark corner.

Review 115:All the staff were excellent at their various jobs

Review 116:Bathrooms were pokey and very little space to store your toiletries. Biggest offence in my mind was the shower curtain - yuck! Surely not appropriate for a 5 star hotel.

Review 117:Great food and location. Staff were all very friendly and remembered our names - but were always professional and couldn't do enough for us. Management surprised us with fruit, chocolates, wine and a birthday card for my husband.

Review 118:No bad experience whatsoever

Review 119:When you walk into this hotel they make you feel like an 'A' list Hollywood film star even if you are wearing your dirty jeans and a sweatshirt! The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble, the facilities are great. We didn't venture to the spa but I'm sure it would have been wonderful.

Review 120:I was asked to unplug electrical things and move tables to do so. I refused and was told someone would come up. I stayed in and no one came! I am sure this contravenes health and safety.rules.

Review 121:The view from our balcony was excellent. The room was very good and always clean.

Review 122:I can find no fault with the hotel, its location, or its facilities and staff. However, it was a pity that there was a polythene covered building site next door (although I'm the first to realise that it was no-one's fault, just unfortunate for us that we chose to have a break while this building was going on).

Review 123:Everything about the hotel was pretty near perfect, from the warm welcome when we arrived to the efficient settling of our account when we left. Luxury without pretension, polite and friendly staff, I have no fault to find at all. Loved the spa/pool/massage!

Review 124:Breakfast was lukewarm. Asked for paper didn't receive. Room was in bad location next to building site. Room small for the amount of money paid. Pipes knocking when water running.

Review 125:Spa was nice.

Review 126:bathroom long and narrow. bedroom decor dated. very dark.

Review 127:excellent convenience as a back up location for a busy day. fantastic staff, extremely helpful.

Review 128:Air con on room wasn't working and room smelt very stuffy however after a word with the desk, engineer fixed it. Only problem wad then it wad too cold and it could not be turned up. Building works going on next door so was very noisy to have window open.

Review 129:Location good with nice view of Elizabeth Castle. Ten minute walk from shops, bus station etc Nice touch from management in leaving a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit as we had told them we were celebrating our anniversary. Although didn't get time to use Spa and pool, we did take a look and it was very nice.Staff were very helpful and made our stay pleasant. Breakfast excellent.

Review 130:Everything

Review 131:This is not a five star hotel as they claim at best it's a very poor three star but they charge five star money. Don't be fooled by these people no hot water in rooms key cards that don't work ever poor decor basic rooms that innovative way meet five star standards etc,I could go on but the message is clear avoid. In future you will find me round the corner at the royal yacht a real five star hotel.

Review 132:Plumbing needs modernising - very slow running taps and water in our room only lukewarm in the mornings.

Review 133:Excellent room . Most staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 134:The key mechanism wouldn't work to our room, so we were offered another room, windows were ill fitting and had to block up gaps all around window with toilet paper to stop the raging gale, and put a towel on window sill to collect rain water , this was a deluxe sea facing. Bathroom outdated, room decor drab and dreary, and very expensive for what we got, no different facilities to cheaper rooms.

Review 135:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The view from bedroom wondow

Review 136:We would have preferred to have a walking shower rather than the bath but this was to only issue and did not spoil a great time at the Grand Jersey.

Review 137:We enjoyed the friendly staff and the way they made us both feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant food quality was excellent and in most cases better quality and more economical than eating out in a restaurant

Review 138:Prices for drinks and wine expensive in comparison with other hotels we have stayed in of the same quality.

Review 139:Spa and leisure facilities. Breakfast was average. Evening meal was fine. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 140:Free wifi is great but kept cutting out - a more reliable connection would be an improvement.

Review 141:Really comfortable surroundings. Bedroom was beautifully decorated and very cosy. Lounge and restaurant areas excellent too.

Review 142:nothing to report that we didn't like!

Review 143:Friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel, small but nice spa. Ask for room with view, not sure I would want anything on the hotel side.

Review 144:I felt a bit out of place as the way things work there was a bit too formal, which is what you should expect from a 5* so I guess it was my fault.

Review 145:I loved the look of the hotel it felt really special. The staff were very nice. The pool area was beautiful.

Review 146:The staff at this hotel are fantastic, all really friendly and the hotel has a great atmosphere. The beds were really comfy - rooms were clean and well equipped
