Reviews for Lancaster House Hotel

Review 1:Tired old bathroom and poor shower with a shower curtain. Need a better bathroom. Breakfast a fair choice but was the cooking was below average. If there were better choices for breakfast nearby I would have gone out for breakfast

Review 2:Staff were friendly and professional.

Review 3:Firstly it was very noisy. The bathroom had blood droplets behind the bathroom door and hair. And when we checked out we were confronted with a bill for wine and drinks that we didn't have. At breakfast they forgot to bring my tea. I felt like a second class citizen.

Review 4:The facilities are very good. And the roaring log fire is very welcoming.

Review 5:Would have liked body lotion to be provided along with other toiletries.

Review 6:Nice atmosphere, staff helpful and friendly. Rooms very comfortable and well furnished

Review 7:Price we had to pay for adding the 2 no children to sleep on a sofa bed (which we knew about) we were emailed and asked for ages of children. We got no reply to the email so assumed this was the total price we had to pay for the suite.

Review 8:Leisure facilities. Bar meals and seating area around log fire. Suite style bedroom

Review 9:The pool was too full for me to have a swim in the afternoon.

Review 10:The friendliness and comfort of the hotel and its staff. Service was excellent despite the large number of people in fro Christmas parties

Review 11:The place was excellent.

Review 12:Overall, I've really enjoyed my time here and will consider it again if I have to come to the university's campus. The place was very festive and the room was spacious, clean and very quiet at night. Good pool and the outdoor hot tub was a pleasure!

Review 13:I think we paid more than we could have. I though I had booked B&B but breakfast cost us £25.00. Bar drinks are expensive.

Review 14:Convenience to South Lancaster & Motorway. Restaurant food was excellent.

Review 15:I had to complain to reception staff on departure: I was unable to sleep until a Christmas function had finished at 1am due to noise from the disco. When I called reception at 12.15am they were sympathetic and offered to arrange an alternative room but never called back.I was given a discount but to be honest it didn't really compensate for the inconvenience.

Review 16:Staff are mostly helpful and very pleasant - see below.

Review 17:My only disappointment was that Ithink I left a favourite lime green scarf in the bedroom, probably over the back of a chair in Room 91. The bed runner was draped over the top of it, I think. I did ring and am sure you will let me know if it is found.

Review 18:It was an uncertain time because of the power cuts and problems related to those. The staff were excellent and fortunately there were no problems

Review 19:Before the power went off, the shower fluctuated from freezing cold water to red hot.

Review 20:Nice big rooms and very clean. The staff were excellent despite the power going off. They remained professional and assured everyone was ok. Staff were happy to accommodate an early check in.

Review 21:We were there on the night that hurricane Desmond decided to hit Cumbria, the hotel was without power and Wi-Fi, we were very disappointed that even the emergency lighting wasn't working!! we ended up leaving without breakfast which was also very disappointing, this was given as a birthday gift so it was spoilt,

Review 22:Beautiful hotel, very friendly staff,

Review 23:Two starters were missing meaning not everybody was served at the same time. A couple of the meals had to go back as the portion size (fillet steak) was very small.

Review 24:My Son's 21st birthday dinner went very well with the front of house staff

Review 25:Our room was on the ground floor close to reception so a bit noisy as a lot of the hotel traffic went past our door.

Review 26:Great location and facilities. Breakfast was very good with eggs cooked to order. Employees were very friendly and helpful

Review 27:We could hear water flushing from showers/toilets being used in a nearby bedroom which disturbed us a little during the night and early in the morning. Bath/shower could do with a handrail as the bath could be a little slippery.

Review 28:Great location for visiting our son at Lancaster Uni. The staff, from checking in at reception, restaurant and housekeeping were all very pleasant and helpful. The bedroom was very comfortable.

Review 29:It was a pity that the restaurant wasn't able to provide a table for dinner on our second night. We had invited a family member to show off the hotel's facilities but had to eat in the bar area instead. I felt that this spoilt the opportunity we had. Car parking can be a bit of a problem during the busiest of times. The fragrance that welcomes you into the reception wasn't to our liking. I'm sure some may have liked it.

Review 30:The way that there are signs to remind the hotel guests to consider others and request that they keep quiet in and around the hallways so residence can have a restful stay.

Review 31:Breakfast organisation was not good, one person checking people in then showing to table seems wrong during rush times.

Review 32:Staff did a great job. Thanks and well done

Review 33:Very comfortable hotel just a stone's throw from the university where we were visiting. Very quiet rooms with large bathrooms and comfortable beds. Good, reasonably priced restaurant.

Review 34:The door closing can be quite noisy when people are in and out of their rooms, especially when weddings/functions are on

Review 35:Most of the staff are great - friendly and happy to try and help any way they can

Review 36:Only minor but bathroom light made loud noise when coming on so not great in middle of night.

Review 37:Great location to see niece at her Uni. Ate 2/3 nights in restaurant, impressed. Enjoyed leisure facilities, all working efficiently, loved the hot tub.

Review 38:Very happy that dogs are allowed. They are getting a bowl, blanket and a biscuit which is nice but they charge 20£ for that. That's the highest we ever paid. Normally it's 10 - 15 £ in hotels.

Review 39:We enjoyed the Spa facilities a lot. Huge sauna and also an outdoor whirlpool. Pleasant room, good mattresses. Beautiful food in the restaurant and very good breakfast buffet always freshly topped up.

Review 40:Silly but towels at the health club were tiny. Only a small thing

Review 41:It was great from start to finish. No issues. Easy check in. All questions answered. Great room. Great meal. Great massage and the health club facilities where a bonus.

Review 42:Went to book into restaurant at 7:10pm, was told by Manager that he could book us in for 7:15pm, had to wait in reception for 5 minutes! only 2 other couples on tables rest was empty, do not see why could not be seated and was embarrassing to be told to go to reception until he was ready. Found restaurant manager to be very condescending throughout! was not the service I would have expected.

Review 43:False fire alarm quite early in the morning. I think it was around 2am. The fire exit pathway wasn't very well lit and signs weren't clear.

Review 44:Lovely hotel. Great facilities. Only a short drive into Lancaster city centre.

Review 45:Nothing was too much trouble, it was a relaxed atmosphere in all spheres of the hotel - leisure centre to restaurant to cleaning staff on morning of leaving.

Review 46:The bathroom smells of damp shower curtain, and is in need of a makeover, as does the hotel. Struggled to see how it is rated a 4 star hotel. Maybe when it was new!

Review 47:Location

Review 48:Only having space for one child per room means we have to bring grandparents along. With only one set of grandparents available to travel if we have another child we will have to find somewhere else to stay!

Review 49:The pool facilities are great and the kids especially enjoyed the splash time with floats and fountain. The breakfast was great, the beds were comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 50:The bed, the cleanliness, the room, the calmness of the environment, the heated pool and Jacuzzi, the staff, the corner by the window at the reception area...

Review 51:We were staying here to attend a wedding at the nearby Lancaster golf club but taxis were quite expensive for a short distance

Review 52:The hotel was clean, had all the facilities we needed and had beautiful grounds

Review 53:I didn't get my promised 7.00am wake up call which made me late. I had asked for a ground floor room but was not allocated one, although this was rectified on arrival. I was promised tea at breakfast but it never arrived in spite of asking twice,

Review 54:Could do with a differentiated bar food menu as restaurant is expensive and although the bar does food it is a version of restaurant with the same prices

Review 55:facilities clean and high spec, staff friendly and efficient

Review 56:They had a computer fault so the wake up call wasn't delivered!

Review 57:We've stayed before - the location is brilliant, the food is good, the swimming pool is full-sized (20 m)

Review 58:I am a coeliac ( Gluten Free ). I have been poorly since return must have had gluten. Is there a different utensil for toasting my bread, is the bacon, mushrooms and egg cooked away from the sausages etc.Offering a gluten free diet is more than just giving gluten freeproducts or just removing gravy stuffing from a meal. Had I stayed a week I would have been really ill. When ordering a coffee I'm still given a gluten biscuit after stating I am wheat free.

Review 59:Comfortable with all facilities

Review 60:The bar food was o.k the staff were very nice and friendly. But the food I had was just o.k, although it was only chicken in a bun perhaps a bit pricy.

Review 61:Spa facilities and nice room comfy bed. Very nice staff

Review 62:Managers effort to resolve a spa problem (very poor customer service as we were told it wasn't the hotels department)

Review 63:Food very good, bed comfy, clean

Review 64:Great amenities in the room, incredibly comfy bed and delicious breakfast, breakfast supervisor (didn't catch her name) was great. Parking is a massive bonus - will always come back!

Review 65:Place seems to cater only for small children with no control over the by parents or staff. Many are not even residents but users of the leisure centre. My complaints of being driven from the bar then the foyer by feral children were met by the manager with an "It's a family hotel". I asked if this meant adults were ignored and the premises were really a crèche. This received no comment. The food was overpriced in the evenings and limited and breakfast was very poor in quality and availability of dishes

Review 66:Nice clean room and generally very helpful approachable staff. Good location etc

Review 67:Altho the cooked breakfast was good I am not a fan of buffet meals. Never completely warm and fresh. However it was good and kept me going most of the day

Review 68:I like that altho the majority of staff are young they are all polite helpful clean smart and obviously happy in their work. Also respectful and not overbearing. There if you need them

Review 69:Met up with a friend who travelled down from Scotland, easy to find fab location, great helpful staff, superb food and a great massage. I will definitely be back.

Review 70:Despite notices of "quiet please" other guests were noisey into the early hours. The paper thin walls did'nt help - you could hear everything and I mean everything !!! and the persistant slamming of doors due to over active "closer" mechanisms all resulted in little sleep, a pity really as I would certainly recommend this hotel for its facilities etc.

Review 71:Really comfortable room

Review 72:Although signs everywhere near rooms to respect others at night we still had extremely noisy neighbours , but hotel did complain for us Also if being picky rooms decorated ok but very dark and carpets were a bit !!!

Review 73:Ideal location for our needs

Review 74:Pre ordered taxi was not booked by Reception. Early morning call did not happen. Poor customer service when fresh milk asked for. Sink and taps in bathroom not cleaned properly - had to redo.

Review 75:Out of town but convenient for Lancaster.

Review 76:Unfortunately steam room was closed for repair during our recent stay.

Review 77:The location and surrounding area is excellent for a leisure break. Good quality food on offer both in a bar environment and well presented restaurant.

Review 78:EVERYTHING ESPECIALLY THE BED!!! STAFF WERE AWESOME ESPECIALLY THE HELPFUL TOM IN THE BAR AND HIS WING COMMANDER 'SCOTTY' OUR EVENING MEAL WAS LOVELY.......

Review 79:the rooms are a little tired and old fashioned. the windows are not a great fit so cold weather might be a problem. no aircondioning though a fan was provided.

Review 80:Very friendly and helpful. reasonable food choice and nicely served. resonable value for money on the food. the room was large, comfortable and very clean. nice selction and good quality toiletries.

Review 81:No lift, so ask for a lower level room. In the wash room, the hot and cold water is separate and hence mixing them is a real hassle. Breakfast waiting time to refill is unbelievably slow

Review 82:Location, if the purpose of visit is to visit the university, then don't think twice, you should stay here

Review 83:bathroom bit dated (but was perfectly fine) had better meals in equivalent restaurants

Review 84:swimming pool and spa breakfast buffet (and pineapple chunks!)

Review 85:Smell of paint as workers were decorating and updating rooms think we were the only people on that floor

Review 86:Hotel clean staff friendly breakfast was very good Food EXSPENSIVE if you are eating here as were the drinks

Review 87:either be a hotel or a health club - but not both - pool full of locals and no space for guests - we chose the hotel for the pool = v disappointed

Review 88:decor

Review 89:Redecorating guest rooms on first floor and the work commenced at 08.00hrs, which disturbed our rest and peace until we checked out at 11am. Otherwise, excellent.

Review 90:Fantastic facilities at this hotel which is situated in the Lancaster University campus. Ideal for a relaxing break whilst visiting students. Staff very helpful & friendly, hotel very clean. Loved the swimming pool & hot tub! Gym looked great. Highly recommend!

Review 91:Coach parties who are leaving very early passing our rooms with their luggage.

Review 92:Everything. Lovely food and nice atmosphere in the evening. Daytime leisure activities were excellent

Review 93:First few days were ok in the room then on the last day the cleaners highly polished the bathroom floor????. This was done while we were out so had no idea ! I took a shower standing in the bath. Stepping out of the bath I did a sideways split as the bath mat on the floor slid away from the bath. I landed on the toilet. Both hips are hurting and I have a very large bruised calf. It shook me up. I cannot understand why anyone would want to polish the floor in the bathroom ! please check before stepping into the bath. There was no non slip mat in the bath either ! The hot water shot out of the tap and wet us through and was extremely hot .The strip light made a right noise too.

Review 94:Swimming pool/spa We stay here as it is not a long drive to the lakes. We also like going out into Lancaster for our nights out.

Review 95:The breakfast could have been better someone was very heavy handed with the pepper pot also people should be warned about the extortionate cost of Lancaster taxies

Review 96:The staff were good and the room was very comfortable

Review 97:Toilet Plumbing wasn't greatest but managed to coax it into working when necessary Bathroom a little tired looking, rather have a walk in shower not one over the bath

Review 98:The bed was king size and very comfortable

Review 99:The courtyard could do with tidying up. It's a nice place to sit and relax, but was a bit shabby with scruffy flower troughs, and weeds around the place.

Review 100:Staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 101:Only downside - along with most hotels I've ever stayed in - not enough tea/coffee making materials, regularly running out of milk.

Review 102:Top quality room, bed and facilities.

Review 103:It was excellent overall. The food was excellent, the swimming pool was lovely and was warm. The leisure facilities were great. The staff were polite and helpful. I would definitely go back again and recommend the hotel.

Review 104:We were in the newer wing which was very comfortable, well designed and spotlessly clean. Dinner and breakfast were good value and the staff were extremely attentive.Would recommend to friends and return ourselves..

Review 105:Fantastic facilities and extremely friendly and very helpful staff. Couldn't do enough to help our stay with a young child. Would definitely recommend

Review 106:The Chicken and Vegetable green thai curry needs to be either taken off the menu or find another recipe. They are both tasteless!

Review 107:Walking distance from the University

Review 108:just off the motorway, comfortable bed, reasonable food and friendly staff. grabbed this off the net as needed an overnight stay quickly but such a good location will definitely be using it again.

Review 109:Sloppy housekeeping as double duvet cover had been put on inside out and was torn in three places, pillows were very worn and out of shape. Housekeeping staff hoovering in our corridor at 8.45 on a Sunday morning was too early (breakfast is served until 10.30) and likely to disturb guests wanting a lie-in. Furniture in room a bit scratched and worn.

Review 110:Double room was a generous size with plenty of wardrobe/ drawer space and very large comfortable bed. Good quality tv. Free access to well maintained pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi was a real bonus. Good choice of complimentary tea/ coffee in room. Lovely open fire in reception area which we loved though not sure how this affects anyone with breathing difficulties / asthma as not good ventilation so very strong sulphurous smell that filled the lounge area.

Review 111:Nothing

Review 112:The rooms were big, clean, well looked after. The bed was very comfy and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was spot on, all you can eat! And good times open till 10.30 so you don't have to be an early bird. Lancaster Is about £8-10 in taxi.

Review 113:The corridor leading to the rooms and the room itself smelled like they had been cleaned with a stale cloth. We did report it and without asking were given another room which was better smelling. However the corridor was sprayed with air freshener to a choking degree and once that cleared the stale smell was back.

Review 114:Friendliness of Management

Review 115:nothing everything was just perfect

Review 116:on arrival we had been upgraded to the luxury suites and in the room was a birthday balloon and a little box of chocolates with a card my daughter was over the moon, this was a lovely start to our little treat

Review 117:Woken up by the fire alarm. Public areas taken over by wedding guests so got a taxi in to town to have a drink. View from window of scaffolding for solar panel installation.

Review 118:Convenient if visiting the university. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 119:Accidentally we removed the bed sheet and found lots of hair on the mattress. that was a bit let down.

Review 120:Overall pleasant experience. Good one. Even the easter egg hunt was good fun for child.

Review 121:Our room was dirty, in particular, the bathroom, also the classic room is out-dated. The restaurant and breakfast options are not at the level of a four-star hotel.

Review 122:Access gates are a little frustrating - somewhat unnecessary I think....

Review 123:Great range of facilities across the hotel. Gym is good, rooms are adequate and breakfast is wonderful.

Review 124:While we were having dinner we asked for some crusty bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar, and the waitress did know what we meant. Then some other waiter came with what we asked for but brought normal vinegar. Also my partner asked for a calypso coffee and waited a while for it to come. When i ask why, he said they didnt know what it was and had to google it !! Yet the drink was available to order on the bars drinks menu !

Review 125:The comfort of the bed and the facility's were brilliant.

Review 126:Bathroom, although spotless and polished was showing its age in wear and design. Shower over bath is fixed high up so you can't rinse long hair easily.

Review 127:Perfect location for visiting the university (walkable). Nice extra touches like ice machines in corridor + ice bucket in room, and proper kettle and tea and coffee in room. Swimming pool and gym both very nice. Restaurant fine but bar could do with cheering up a little. We took our drinks to the lovely open fire in the entrance lounge instead. Bar and restaurant food both very good.

Review 128:Whilst the food was wonderful the piped music into the restaurant was irritating. It was slightly too loud and too off putting. It was present at breakfast as well and I was sat right under the speaker.

Review 129:The pool and spa

Review 130:Was a little bit disappointed with Breakfast. Had booked a table for 5 people but on arriving at 9.15 am no table set and had to wait whilst table was laid. Products on the buffet bar had been out for sometime under the lights.staff priority seemed to be setting tables up for lunch.Just an observation not a complaint.

Review 131:Hotel is very clean with a very helpful Reception team who went out of their way to make our stay memorable. We had a meal in the evening in the Restaurant which was very good especially the Steak. Rooms were warm with very comfortable beds

Review 132:The swimming pool, changing rooms and spa facilities were a little dated. Children were allowed in all the spa facilities when normally they have to be 16 or over.

Review 133:Rooms were very comfy and good value for money.

Review 134:Nothing to fault with this Hotel.

Review 135:I enjoyed the whole experience of my stay, beginning on arrival with the Reception personnel being very welcoming. The bedroom was a good size and very comfortable The quality of the evening meal and breakfast was very good and enjoyable. Later in the morning, following check out, I received a telephone call from Housekeeping to say that I had left a Shirt in the Wardrobe. By this time I was in Manchester and they very kindly offered to post it to my home address. I will definitely stay at this Hotel again when visiting the area. First class.

Review 136:A smart, comfortable and friendly place to stay whilst visiting my daughter at university with a touch of papering thrown in, thanks to the fantastic spa facilities.
