Reviews for Rock Inn

Review 1:WiFi is very bad, no connection for your mobile phone. The hotel is at a busy road, you can't sleep with an open window.

Review 2:The cook loves cooking! Unfortunenately he cooked my steak nor medium-rare, but well-done. This problem I have many times in the UK, these people can't cook.

Review 3:Blood on pillow and room very dusty etc was not very suited to me and my boyfriends type of place

Review 4:Scenery was nice and decor wasn't bad staff was very friendly which would be good most people

Review 5:Hosts could have been more welcoming!! Breakfast and check-out times are a little tight.Menu in restaurant not as extensive as sample menu on website.

Review 6:Setting/Location good.Bedrooms very good.Quality of available food very good.

Review 7:First to book of 3 couples, second couple to arrive. We were given a tiny box room called a junior double when we paid for a standard double. Told reason for this was we were last to book explained we organised visit so were first the. Told it was because we were last to arrive which was not true as we were 2nd to arrive. Tried to back track told we could upgrade which they couldn't do. There was mould on the ceiling in the bathroom (I have a picture of this) owner said it was because people didn't open the window. (We did in fairness get a complimentary glass of wine off the proprietors) I believe being 3 youngish couples they looked down their noses at us yet they were unaware they all 6 are professionals. When the bar was closed (after buying 3 rounds of drinks) we did have a can each in the 'snug' area which yes we shouldn't have drank our own alcohol but the bar was closed. We did apologise for this and this was met with a barrage of abuse and a mouth full of vulgar words which were disgusting. May I just add that the cleaner should run the place as she was the most pleasant and delightful lady that we came across, she was polite, friendly and really made you feel welcome, she wanted to help and do what she could. The room we were in was that small you couldn't walk around the bed. You also didn't have anywhere to hang up your clothes or drawers that were deep enough to fit anything in. You couldn't see the TV from the bed as it couldn't rotate and the kettle was left with water in it. The other rooms were lovely, very spacious however the one we were in was uncomfortable, small and damp.

Review 8:Excellent picturesque location set in the beautiful countryside.

Review 9:Very hilly if looking to go for a run but apart from that we had a great stay.

Review 10:This is a charming Inn with great service, great evening menu and superb breakfast.

Review 11:Our first encounter with a member of staff was most unpleasant. The man should never be allowed to greet guests. We were very close to leaving

Review 12:Food was excellent. The woman in charge was very pleasant.

Review 13:No bad points,.. Loved everything!!

Review 14:Loved the charm of The Rock Inn.. Staff were lovely, Food was amazing! Really comfortable, really good wifi connection.

Review 15:Our room didn't have a proper shower facility, however this would bit put us off staying again

Review 16:Food of good quality and cooked well, even breakfast was of a high quality.

Review 17:Very clean and comfortable and very helpful staff. Breakfasts very fresh and tasty , lunch also good and tasty. Sometimes unable to get wi-if connection ,maybe due to being in a valley.

Review 18:Set in a lovely location, very pretty and tranquil. The food was delicious and a great atmosphere in the pub. Accomodation was full of character and to a very high standard.

Review 19:My husband and I loved this place and would thoroughly recommend The food was excellent and we enjoyed a relaxing short break with our dog, worth every penny.

Review 20:WiFi only had good signal in the bar & restaurant area.

Review 21:Remote but lovely alternative to the mainstream business hotels. Great value for money and a very good restaurant.

Review 22:Room bath/shower was to small. I needed to open the roof window to put my head out to enable me to shower! I am only 5'10" so not very tall.

Review 23:Loved all the food! No other words needed.

Review 24:we couldn't stay longer.

Review 25:nice hosts, fantastic food with lots of choice at both dinner & breakfast which arrived nice & hot. cosy comfortable bedroom.

Review 26:nothing to dislike.

Review 27:received a warm welcome on arrival by the owner ruth, after checking in we were shown to our room (no8) which was very clean, warm and comfortable, dinning here is a must, the food is superb.the breakfast was freshly cooked and the service and the staff were great ,will be staying here again.

Review 28:Sarcastic staff, small bed, the smallest room I've seen. Although it had been redecorated, nicely in fact, it had only just been decorated! So the smell of paint was unbelievable... (We didn't ask for another room as we knew they were full). We had to sleep with the window wide open, because the paint smell was making us sick! In the very nice looking bathroom, there wasn't a shower, & you couldn't stand up, the sinks hot & cold taps were so stiff - they were almost unusable. Breakfast was in the pub/lounge, the food was ok, we had the inclusive bacon & eggs breakfast, I asked for a poached egg - got a fried egg! As our order was taken we were asked if we had slept ok, I said unfortunately I didn't as the smell of the paint made me feel so ill & I was freezing cos I had to leave the window open all night, the reply was 'Oh' & she walked off! We were gob- smacked to say the least.. We've owned & run a 5* luxury B&B in New Zealand for 10 years with guests ranging from the everyday business person to billionaires staying, we always put our GUESTS first! Here it was customers & Money first!

Review 29:This Inn has real old world charm and character, but with modern facilities and high standard in the bedrooms. The warm welcome and cosy log fire coupled with fantastic food made our stay there really enjoyable.

Review 30:really comfortable rooms, friendly welcome, couldn't do enough for us. Food was fantastic, really nice selection and great tasting. Would recommend.

Review 31:Heating was off when we arrived and the room was a little cold. Having said that it came on when the owners were made aware.

Review 32:Lovely couple who owned the inn. Great food warm and welcoming.

Review 33:From our moment of arrival we felt welcomed, impressed and pleasantly surprised by both the setting and the staff. The room was beautifully finished and the bed very comfortable (room 8). If you are staying here, dinner is a must! Sat by an open log fire whilst enjoying genuinely fantastic food was by far the highlight of our stay. A great selection of locally sourced ingredients cooked with true talent and passion...we will be back!

Review 34:This is a high quality B&B which is very clean and comfortable with en-suit facilities. The staff are all very friendly and the food is top quality. I don't normally have cooked breakfast but this one is very good and not a plate of grease like in some places, all cooked to order. I will be back whenever I am in the area.

Review 35:I have no complaints of the place or the experience.

Review 36:The best traditional pub/hotel that i have stayed in for long time. The bar area has retained it's ambiance and the food was excellently presented and cooked. The room was perfectly styled in keeping with the building and was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming, knowledgeable and good company. this was a perfect stay.

Review 37:There was no mobile connection and Wi-Fi in rooms varied. As it was winter opening hours pub closed at 3pm until 6. Therefore had to book in by 3 or wait until 6. Inconvenient if you are travelling some distance.

Review 38:Very good value for money, food very good, very pleasant staff. Spacious bedroom.

Review 39:Me and my boyfriend loves the warmth of the place. The owners and staff were lovely. The atmosphere was great! We had a lovely time and will come back again.

Review 40:There was nothing to dislike. One of the best places we have stayed in and will certainly return.

Review 41:Welcoming staff. Great email correspondence with useful directions. We arrived late with a slightly irate 7month old grandson. Table was reserved and the food was superb! Well presented and delicious. The bedroom was warm and cosy, the bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast too was super. Homemade bread, jams and marmalade and lots of choice. Cooked breakfast was excellent.

Review 42:The couple Barclays are wonderful hosts. The atmosphere was so nice and how you would imagine to stay in a typical englisch pub, everything was so pretty, the food was excellent and the furniture we liked very much, except the carpet in the room but as we learned that it is still normal in englisch hotels. I can really recommend that location!

Review 43:We booked for one night to break our journey, but we would have liked to stay longer!

Review 44:The Rock Inn is tucked away in a steep-sided valley, a few miles from the M5 motorway. The scenic location is the perfect setting for this 400-year old inn. Inside you will find great food, comfortable rooms and a warm welcome.

Review 45:The service could have been a little more relaxed and flexible, but this wasn't an issue that would stop us from coming back.

Review 46:The food alone is worth the trip, we were a party of 4, we each had something different from the mouthwatering menu and all of our food was excellent. Our room was perfectly comfortable for the 3 star rating.

Review 47:The room, the service, food & wine were all excellent. Ruth was friendly and gave us a warm welcome. The food - dinner & breakfast especially was one of the best we've had. The wine list had a good selection and has been well thought out. All in all, the Rock Inn is a delightful place & we would definately stay again.

Review 48:Nothing!!!

Review 49:Welcomed with a drink on arrival, best mussels ever eaten, very friendly staff, lovely breakfast, comfy bed and pillows, very dog friendly! Lovely walks about after a long journey. What else can I say, just a lovely way to spend a night, with good food, company and bed!

Review 50:Arrived in the pitch dark, when asking about car parking, which I couldn't find, the bar man seemed amused by my stupidity, not a good start. we were given room 3, the door was dragging on the carpet and would only open about 18 inches, and the grouting in the shower was not very spick.

Review 51:Comfortable bed, good beer, very nice breakfast. Landlady and Landlord very pleasant.

Review 52:Only 10/15 minutes off M5 yet hidden in beautiful surroundings the Rock Inn was a fabulous find. Great welcome with a complimentary drink on arrival. Very comfortable rooms and ensuite. The food was delicious. My husband had slow cooked Hare in red wine for dinner which he loved ! Breakfast cooked to order, plus homemade jams/marmalade. Would highly recommend the Rock Inn and we will definitely stay again.

Review 53:Nothing at all! Everything perfect

Review 54:Wonderful location in the middle of nowhere but within easy reach of everywhere. Food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Would stay again any time!

Review 55:no obvious walks directly from the hotel. smell of the air freshener in bathroom.

Review 56:Fabulous food from top quality chef. Very friendly and welcoming owners. Complimentary drink from bar on arrival. Great quality and comfort of bedroom furnishings. Quaint, snug, residents lounge with free Wi-fi

Review 57:Not easy to go for after dinner stroll but everything else made up for that

Review 58:Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere with no fussing. Excellent wide choice of menu with friendly discussion from staff to help decisions. Perfect location for visiting Taunton and surrounding area.

Review 59:To be fair it was all pretty much as we would expect from an old inn. If I was pushed for something, the orange juice at breakfast could of been chilled. A shower in the room would of been nice to have but not a criticism.

Review 60:We arrived while the pub was closed, so needed to go to the adjoining building which was no issue. We were welcomed by Ruth, who let us into the pub and booked us in and very kindly offered a complimentry welcome drink. We ate in the pub for the evening which was fully booked, if I was to be picky I would of preffered to of sat somewhere else. The food was excellent albeit maybe a little pricey, but the service was excellent especially as how busy it was. It was nice to be able to retire to the guest lounge after dinner to relax. Breakfast was very welcome, set us up for our onward journey. Good bar selection and list of wines.

Review 61:The only thing that we didn't like was a couple of easy chairs in our room so we could relax in.

Review 62:It was a lovely rural place and lovely hot food.It was easy to visit interesting places from here. Would love to return in the future.

Review 63:The location is a bit remote. The night we ate at the Rock Inn was very busy - perhaps they need to refine their booking system.

Review 64:Friendly atmosphere. Room we stayed in was very nice. We ate at the Rock Inn one night and the food was absolutely wonderful

Review 65:The inn is old and characterful but that means it has sloping floors. Even tho bed was propped up by books, still felt as if head was lower than feet. Didn't matter- loved our stay there.

Review 66:The menu offered a good selection of mains - something a bit different. Freshly cooked and delicious , our mains were very flavoursome. We shared a dish of ice creams made at the inn- lovely!

Review 67:no hot water for shower or if there was I couldn't get it! spent 15 mins twidling everything but still cold!! couldn't get any mobile phone signal very annoying when your on a business trip! waited 45 mins for dinner in the evening because they didn't have enough staff !! then when it finally arrived I couldn't eat much of it asy duck was under done !! very dissapointed as it was expensive aswell !!

Review 68:lovely clean room!! nice ensuite. comfortable bed .breakfast was nice and welcome after not much the eve before .

Review 69:The room was beautiful, comfortable and clean. The food choice was very good and quality was excellent, especially for the price, which we thought was very reasonable. Great place to stay on our way to Cornwall.

Review 70:I loved this inn! The room was charming and quiet, the bathroom clean and modernized. Dinner was superb and beautifully presented, breakfast delicious. It was a joy to stay in a real English pub, with locals and their dogs mixing with strangers like me.

Review 71:We felt it wasn't a very warm welcome when we arrived. We were shown up to room 7 and although small was tastefully decorated and comfortable but overlooked the rock face. The main problem was it's above the kitchen and noisy extractor fan that went on from 5pm until around 10.30pm and could hear the kitchen staff until midnight. Not great if you are coming away for a relaxing quiet break!

Review 72:Bed was comfortable and the room tastefully decorated. We were given a complimentary drink when we arrived.Breakfast was good.

Review 73:- Traffic noise. - No proper shower. - No mobile phone signal. - Boss telling staff off in front of guests - uncalled for.

Review 74:- Food excellent - Surrounding area beautiful. -Very relaxed atmosphere. - Nice mix of guests. - Location perfect for our purpose.

Review 75:Offered a drink on arrival. Excellent choice of menu and delicious food. Last minute booking so excellent value. Good location close to motorway for stop-off on way to West Country.

Review 76:Nothing.

Review 77:We had a lovely room on the second floor. Warm welcome, including complimentary drink at the bar. The food was absolutely amazing and a wide selection. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 78:Vegetarian cooked breakfast was just the 'usual' with omissions!

Review 79:Very welcoming and friendly staff, brilliant food, beautiful rooms with high quality furniture and fittings, great location in secluded corner of Somerset but in easy reach of the M5.

Review 80:TV screen was tiny, bit like a laptop and a long way from where you could sit and watch it (ie on the bed) Wifi was only accessible in the bar, but to be expected in an old thick walled building. Piles of laundry sitting in the corridor outside our room when we arrived on the Monday afternoon and still there the following morning.

Review 81:Super situation, despite being right on the road, it wasn't noisy, plenty of parking nearby. A great friendly welcome, with a free glass of whatever you wanted from the bar. The staff were lovely - especially Sue who seemed to be everything to everyone - and very cheerful, despite rushing around on a busy Monday evening. Excellent food - we dined there for 2 nights, the portions were very generous. Breakfasts were great - just would have liked an option of fruit to go with the cereal - the gourmet upgrade was expensive for what it appeared to be. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated room, very quiet - a bit smelly from the food extractor from the kitchen, but only because we had the windows open. Lovely refurbished bathroom.

Review 82:Tea making facilities in room but no coffee.

Review 83:Food excellent

Review 84:No phone signal. No shower in the room, only a bath.
