Review 1：Nothing really bad at all about this place, wasn't the best breakfast I've eaten in a B&B but it certainly wasn't the worst, at least the tomato was fresh and not the plum tomatoes that I dread

Review 4：it's a really tiny thing but it was not possible to sit up in bed to read or watch TV as the bed was up against a sloping wall and the chair was underneath the TV and there was nowhere else for it to go

Review 7：This was one of the most welcoming and inviting stay I had in years. The room was presented in a very romantic way just like in the picture. Very clean with a good ensuit. Highly recommendable and surely would book in there if ever back to South Shields. Overall one of the best places have been too. Review 8：Room was not big enough to be even a single room. Just enough room to shuffle past the single bed. Cut my foot on the corner of the table top which was protruding into the bottom of the bed.Room was small hot and too stuffy. With inadequate ventilation and window not possible me be opened.

Review 10：Room-did not get double room booked (some system error apparently), when i complained about twin room, the initial response was that they pushed the 2 beds together i.e. no double duvet etc. This was fixed for night 2 but very unhappy. Bathroom also had bad sewage smell, management did fix this but made a point that they could not smell nothing. While service was nice and friendly, some isolated instances were poor (eg. Bathroom and welcome - first words were hi, who are you, you have not paid, pay now?). Room small and bathroom tiny. We left early.very disappointed because place was so highly rated on booking.com-i will not stay again.

Review 12：Liz and Scott were wonderful hosts. They made breakfast for us, chatted with us and made sure we were feeling welcome. It felt very personal and inviting.
Review 13：My room was a bit small. It was a single room with its own shower but I found it too tiny. The pillows also were not very comfortable. They were 2, but using both would make one big high pillow and using one would not give enough height.
Review 14：The hotel staff were really very friendly and they made me feel very welcome. The location of the hotel is very good: it is close to the center (about 7 min walk), the roman fortress, and the beach which is at few min walk as well. My room was equipped with towels, a hair dryer, a TV, coffee and tea, and was remarkably clean. The breakfast was included in the room rate and I really enjoyed it. There are options you can choose from and they're served in a very presentable and delicious manner.

Review 24：In a good location - as near to the town as the beach. Our children loved the place for the weekend. Didn't really spend that much time at the b&b as it really was just a base for sleeping, but the room was very clean and whilst we had breakfast our beds had even been made, bins changed etc!! Hope to visit South Shields again as the kids are already asking to go back.

Review 28：unfortunately our room was downstairs and was joined on to the office with three folding doors and we could hear everything through the partitian wall but the worst thing was the lower half of the windows were boarded up, for privacy I expect, but it made the room feel very clostrophobic

Review 35：The best weekend my boyfriend and I have had in a long time. Felt so welcome and will not stay in another place when we visit again. You could spot straight away that they take great pride in their guest house.

Review 42：Given the family room on the top floor when booked a double on the 1st floor. This only has a small double bed & is really warm as it is an attic room. Didn't complain to be fair, but they had said all the other double rooms were full anyway.

Review 44：Fantastic hotel, beautifully furnished, plus with the added bonus of the cafe; which was bright and airy and made breakfast a pleasure. Scott and Liz are a hardworking couple, and nothing was too much trouble. We will return to the Clifton without doubt, and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.
Review 45：As a coffee lover I was excited that the hotel has its own coffee shop. However the coffee served with the breakfast was very weak with no flavour which was disappointing.
Review 46：The room was beautiful, nicely decorated with good facilities. Nice en suite bathroom with plenty of hot water. Only slight issue was the size of the washbasin which was a little small for doing more than washing your hands. Breakfast was very nice, cooked to order and served in the coffee shop.
Review 47：Everything about my stay was perfect. Comfortable room and bed, fantastic shower, scrupulously clean, brilliant staff and fabulous breakfast. Can't fault it. The single room is compact but well laid out with a desk and chair as well as the bed to lounge in in front of the TV.

Review 51：Very friendly service with owners and staff going that extra mile to help. Even though hotel was still being refurbished, the quality of the room was excellent, with modern ensuite. The decor was clean, modern and inviting, with good attention to detail. It was very quiet and we heard no noise from other guests, the only noise we heard was from the street. The bed was lovely and clean and comfortable. The full English reakfast served and service was top class and the coffee shop is beautifully decorated, all arty and quirky. The coffee shop is also open to the public, which is great and you can get a cream tea, not that we have tried that yet, but we will next time. We loved it at The Clifton and was good value for money.
