Reviews for Cheltenham Park Hotel
Review 1:This Hotel is amazing. Steeped in history. Its own grounds mini waterfall lake gazebo swimming Pool sauna Jacuzzi steam restaurant bar it's fantastic. Staff so helpful Big bed Excellent facilities
Review 2:The cost of breakfast was too expensive I will have to reconsider visiting again.
Review 3:As we have stayed at Cheltenham Park on many occasions and have enjoyed the comfortable bedroom and pleasant staff. The spa was also a great experience.
Review 4:Hotel has stunning views, staff are attentive and hotel is reasonably placed with ample parking available. Leisure facilities were pretty good although the pool was closed for refurbishment when I stayed.
Review 5:the room was looking at the carpark, extra charge was requested for an upgrade even though hotel was empty. No slippers or minibar in the room.
Review 6:breakfast was OK
Review 7:Bedding didnt look overly clean and blood mark on bed runner. Buffet Breakfast wasnt particularly nice asked for something else and when it eventually came out wasnt exactly what it said on the menu, was supposed to be eggs benedict with ham, but i got eggs covered in illuminous yellow sauce with no taste, on spinach, no ham. By which time my husband had finished his breakfast and I was past being hungry plus didnt really want what I eventually ended up with, so no breakfast
Review 8:Comfy, friendly and helpful staff
Review 9:Lift was not working which made the stairs a struggle for my Mom. One of the lift doors opened, but the lift was at another floor, so there was a drop..very dangerous.
Review 10:Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was lovely, as was the breakfast room. Room was clean and spacious.
Review 11:Shower either very hot or cold. While upgrading has to be done, no changing room at spa was not good. No tea or coffee at first breakfast.
Review 12:Most of the staff very good. Clean, quiet, good location.
Review 13:Hotel in general has quite a bit of wear and tear. Shame there was no changing facilities or beauty treatments as there was work taking place in the leisure area.
Review 14:Staff excellent
Review 15:Turned off power to room and phone several hours prior to departure. Assigned incorrect room in arrival. Indifferent to complaint - had no response in two weeks.
Review 16:Large room. Parking good.
Review 17:I arrived on my own late in the evening, just wanted a sandwich, watch a bit of telly, shower and sleep. Couldn't get telly to work, sandwich slow to arrive so went to reception, food on the way. Reception changed my room as they were having trouble with the tv signal on top floor. Went to use the shower, unable to get any consistent hot water.
Review 18:Staff good, bed clean and comfortable
Review 19:The room was very old fashion, small, with a bad smell in the bathroom and very noisy all the night because of some power unit working outside.
Review 20:Breakfast is fair
Review 21:Taxi ride required to get to town centre public areas large and lacking in any atmosphere. Bedrooms bland and corporate.
Review 22:Easy parking. Good choice and quality of breakfast
Review 23:Rooms hot. Some single rooms truly tiny. Evening meal (group of ~100) not great - average food served on disintegrating chipboard tables. Car park overflowing.
Review 24:Good breakfast and main restaurant area nice. Comfortable bed. Staff polite and helpful.
Review 25:Even for a single room it was mine was small – knocked my hip badly on the corner of the table in the narrow gap between it and the bed. The decor is generally drab and not of the 21st century, but in good order nevertheless.
Review 26:Staff were very friendly and the location is convenient for Cheltenham. The breakfast room was very pleasant, the breakfast was excellent and with a good selection, and with a pleasing view over the lake and golf course. I paid a reasonable (reduced) price. If I'd paid their full price I would perhaps have to be more critical, but only about the decor and space (or lack of it) in my room. At the price I paid I would recommend this hotel and it was also very quiet.
Review 27:Breakfast staff could be more welcoming. We ordered poached eggs on toast. Took 25 mins. We weren't asked if we wanted white or brown and if we wanted it buttered. Egg yolks set and overcooked.
Review 28:Huge comfy bed and pillows.
Review 29:Not really a full spa, not enough comfy chairs for all clients. The food was good but a smell of cooking fat emanating from the restaurant pervaded everything, even the towels in the spa. The morning service in the restaurant was not equivalent to the evening service.
Review 30:Excellent food and evening service. Decent room although a bit dated.
Review 31:Although the food was good, the service was very slow,we did get the feeling we had been forgotten, taking over 30mins to receive are drinks and even longer to receive the starter.
Review 32:There wasn't a lot of hot water in the showers and breakfast was good but a little hectic / disorganised.
Review 33:The leisure centre was great and exactly what we were wanting. We also had a great dinner at the restaurant.
Review 34:We felt the décor and furnishings were slightly dated especially in the annex where we stayed. Also the walk to the rooms was difficult as I have mobility difficulties and involved a distance and stairs with all my luggage. No explanation of where the room was located or an offer of help was made by staff.
Review 35:A classic building and location with amazing period features
Review 36:As with most hotels it was very hot in the room, even with the radiator off and the window open
Review 37:The hotel was busy but all staff took the time to be helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean, a little worn but nothing major.
Review 38:Layout of Bar/seating area was a little bit wierd. Bar prices were a little bit on the high side also.
Review 39:Old fashioned and a little bit dated (Which i liked ! ) Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Warm, very clean Hotel with a great breakfast. Cosy little Gym and pool/spa area (clean towels provided) also with pleasant staff !
Review 40:Cracked sink, bathroom not cleaned sufficiently, interconnecting doors in room meant you could hear everything in adjoining rooms. Restaurant over-priced for quantity of food (although quality was ok), eat elsewhere unless you want to spend £40 - £45 and still be hungry. Had to send food back on 2 of the courses as it was missing things !
Review 41:Nice rooms, large flat screen tv, good leisure facilities, reasonable room only rate.
Review 42:The place is so run down, when you enter the room it stinks of damp and the bathroom looks exactly like one of an old run down hotel in Greece. Shame on you!!
Review 43:The staff try their best and are all very polite
Review 44:Room too small. Hot water in shower dangerously hot and could not be regulated. I reported this to the desk on leaving. TV reception poor. Picture "breaking up" on some channels.
Review 45:Location. Dining room Staff cheerful. Reception could have been more welcoming.
Review 46:The only down-side - being a traveller using public transport - was the two-journey bus ride to and from the station with mediocre information provided at bus stops and fairly infrequent buses on the Cirencester road. This clearly isn't any fault of the hotel but hopefully something the town council will look to address.
Review 47:It was very pleasing to have the availability of the pool and gym. The room was small but perfectly adequate.
Review 48:Poor value for money, breakfast was very disorganised and poor quality, the room tired, and not worth the money, didn't use facilities, bar noisey and uninviting - very disappointing experience having paid £315 for a double room for the night.
Review 49:Nothing, the bed was ok
Review 50:N/A
Review 51:Very impressive reception. Staff very professional. Food and drink in hotel and next door. My room was very comfortable and had everything in it that I needed. A very satisfied traveller.
Review 52:Only the noise from other rooms
Review 53:First time we stayed here and didn't know really what to expect, the hotel looks very impressive on first impression , the staff were very polite and helpful and the breakfast we thought was first rate
Review 54:Staff did not pay enough attention to detail. The dining-room staff did not seem to be aware of what had been booked and had to keep checking with reception.
Review 55:Very nice hotel, rooms excellent with very good facilities. Very good swimming pool. A little far out of town.
Review 56:The room was awful. The shower didn't work properly, the water flow didn't come out much and it kept going hot and cold. The room wasn't clean there was a pile of grey hairs by the bin on the carpet. The bed wasn't comfortable (it was made up of two beds). The TV channels didn't work properly, and we were dissapointed as it was the rugby world cup final, so my husband missed a chunk of it! The room was extremely hot with no air conditioning so we hardly slept! Most of the staff were fairly friendly, however one member was quite rude and dismissive of me when I asked for a cup of tea from the bar during the evening.
Review 57:The breakfast was really good. There was a nice variety of food, the restaurant staff were friendly and the room was really bright and airy. The location was good too, on the outskirts of Cheltenham but close enough to travel into the town centre.
Review 58:Just not enough staff to cope with breakfast numbers when we were there
Review 59:Very warm welcome, change to room bookings was handled without fuss, staff polite and helpful
Review 60:Cooked breakfast could have been better, bacon and sausage a little cold!
Review 61:We were given two interconnecting rooms which was ideal. Both rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Review 62:I had booked a twin room because I took my grandaughter for a treat and we had to share a double bed. We Did move to another room but when we got there it was so small and dingy that my grandaughter wouldn't stay so we went back to our arriginal room.
Review 63:Breakfast and facilities
Review 64:Requested an accessible room - realise requests cannot always be honoured so also called hotel direct to confirm - which they did - the main office also gave me a direct confirmation number to confirm. On arrival was told it was unavailable - unable to shower therefore for 4 days due to recent hip surgery.
Review 65:Location and staff lovely. Lovely big room.
Review 66:The room had a musty smell when we arrived and really did not improve despite leaving windows open. Room was a bit tired but clean.
Review 67:The Health Club facilities were a bonus as was the restaurant. Good location out of city centre and competitive tariff.
Review 68:PETTY THINGS LIKE NO "NIBBLES" WITH DRINKS IN THE BAR, RUNNING OUT OF OUR CHOSEN WINE IN DINING ROOM.
Review 69:EFFICIENT STAFF , GOOD CUISINE,COMFORTABLE ROOM.
Review 70:Rude and abrupt restaurant staff (breakfast) Expensive breakfast for poor quality Walking long distances to the room, up stairs, down stairs etc with no lifts
Review 71:Very pleasant reception and bar staff
Review 72:It's a large hotel, with very long corridors, and so the room was quiet even though there was a coach party in. I did not eat there (walked to a nearby coffee house in Charlton Kings for breakfast) so can't comment on the food.
Review 73:Our room was supposed to be a twin - was a double when we checked in - no twins left. Then suddenly one was available - but realised why that evening and very early morning - a very loud hen party was next door to us, we had little sleep. Pillows were hard and the bed not as comfy as could be. Also room was quite hot and stuffy - had to leave window open (October) all night.
Review 74:The staff were cheerful and tried to be helpful. Location is very nice and great for town centre (drive). Lovely old charm. Great breakfast.
Review 75:Window in room meaning people walking past can see in very little privacy room also long walk from reception
Review 76:Welcoming staff at reception, room very nice, good standard of leisure facilities
Review 77:NOT a Country house hotel (there might be one under there somewhere) this is industrial scale hospitality, sterile bar area, decent quality but not what we expected.
Review 78:Pool, hot tub, steam room - although not the greatest were good to use
Review 79:The staff were really attentive and went out of their way to help you. Breakfast was really enjoyable and the dinner in the hotel was superb. The gym and pool were an added bonus.
Review 80:All was satisfactory
Review 81:Bar meals were available as an alternative to the restaurant. Accessible room very user friendly. Good location to tour the cotswolds
Review 82:Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice was very good and of good quality Unfortunately the double bed was made up with two single matresses and was not as comfortable as it could have been
Review 83:The worst breakfast - how can you possibly advertised a "Traditional Hot Breakfast" which is stone cold? Alarm bells rang when I noticed there were no napkins to pick the plates up with - no need, the plates in the supposed warmer were not warm! Every item of cooked breakfast I put on my plate was cold - I gave the full plate back to a passing waitress and said, "I'm sorry but I can't eat this as it's all stone cold". She replied with " would you like me to reheat it for you?". No, I'm afraid I don't do re-heated food and I consider it to be totally unacceptable. On another note, the lovely big flat field mushrooms were also un-edible for another reason, they were not peeled.
Review 84:Very Comfortable Bed
Review 85:Over the course of our stay there were several problems, curtain hangingunclipped for the whole of our stay, cleanliness of the bathroom etchowever the duty manager was very agreeable and told us that they wantedto know the problems that guests had while staying at the hotel so thatthey could resolve them. Our problems were resolved amiably.
Review 86:The front of house staff were very nice, polite and professional. Therewas ample parking. The bar and lounge were very comfortable. The gym andpool area were very nice
Review 87:Rooms were pretty tired and dated. We were disappointed with the spa and pool area too which need refurbishment. The staff in the spa area need to show more customer focus and interest overall. We paid for treatments etc but then had to pay extra for gowns etc from a very reluctant spa receptionist. A spa experience should be 'pampering' not unwelcome.
Review 88:Very comfortable beds and pleasant Lakeside restaurant.Reception staff were welcoming, warm and efficient.
Review 89:Breakfast staff on Tuesday were not attentive or smiling. Room hot and window opening small, however a fan was supplied in room which helped.
Review 90:Size of room and bed. Nice shower. Good breakfast selection. Monday staff very attentive, not so good on Tuesday.
Review 91:Pool was very small not big enough for a good swim as it gets busy. rooms are very dated and the walls are very thin you can hear the neighbours easily. expensive drinks at the bar
Review 92:Breakfast and the staff were great. location was good half an hour walk to Cheltenham town.
Review 93:Wi-fi is the worst I've ever encountered; Unsecured wifi which drops 20-30% of packets, with an average speed below that of a 56k modem circa 1997? Unacceptable. TV reception was poor so most channels didn't work, and was repeatedly woken by road noise (room facing road, probably tranquil if your room faces the rear of the hotel though!). Bathroom tap was loose and wobbly, several electrical fittings showed PAT testing out of date by a year. Suggest management stay a few nights in a few rooms to experience it.
Review 94:Not told about needing money for pool facilities. Paid full price when booking and not offered autumn saver offer. When I asked why the receptionist said it was my fault and nothing they could do. Found a pen and a make-up brush on floor when we arrived. My swimming suit strap broke whilst in the pool.staff in health club stated no safety in available but I could by a new swimming suit costing 27 pounds. Not good whilst trying to protect my dignity. The feeling of paying full price has made me reluctant to book hotel offers. The reason I went away was due to my husband due to have heart surgery and staff were not helpful. Also the autumn offer included a evening meal which would have prevented us from having to have to find a nearby restaurant
Review 95:Nice hotel but a few disappointing faults
Review 96:We felt 'marginalised' by taking a special price deal. For example, the room looked out on a wall and not the garden, the residents on the opposite side of the corridor had slippers and robes provided. The hot food was not always available at the breakfast buffet
Review 97:We loved the pool and leisure facilities. Also the helpfulness of staff on all levels
Review 98:Even though on the website it says lifts available, yes, we were constantly struggling with our pushchair up & down stairs!
Review 99:I'd like to say that a couple of the house keeping staff were extremely helpful with my pushchair. Helping me lift it etc.
Review 100:Rooms were old fashioned which didnt compliment the rest of the building which was beautiful. The pillows were hard, and there was no signal in the bedrooms.
Review 101:We loved the location of the hotel, parking was not a problem. The swimming facilites were excellent!
Review 102:Footsteps in the passage above
Review 103:We chose this because of a 50% discount on booking.com. It was a lovely room. A long way from reception but this is a big motel. Friendly staff and a helpful dude opened a side door so we could park right outside our room and bring our luggage straight in.
Review 104:I liked everything except for me because I cannot drive the hotel was a bit away from Cheltenham and a if coming back late a taxi to here was around 10.00 pounds. This was My fault though as I had not realised when booking the distance between the hotel Cheltenham and train station. I would definitely recommend the hotel to My friends.
Review 105:Everything from the warm friendly welcome I received to the comfort of My room. The breakfast was excellent and I had a meal in the bar one evening and that was superb. When it came to the staff nothing was a trouble to them. They could not do enough for me. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.
Review 106:Need More accurate description of the rooms on internet.
Review 107:All the personnel were friendly and ready to offer their help. Very enjoyable stay in an excellent location
Review 108:A room that would have made a downton abbey staff room.room look.like a luxury suite disgusting food a bed like concrete and pillows made from.rock it needs urgent attention from the hotel inspector no lift no ramps broken flag stones a health &safety nightmare.
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:No lifts. To get to the Reception and attached lounge, had to walk outside around the building. As my wife is an invalid we were unable to use stairs.
Review 111:Broken floor tile on entrance to bathroom. Hairs in bath. Very disappointing as 4*. Could hear traffic from main road. Cream tea disappointing: 2 very small scones. Have had better for same price.
Review 112:Great pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam. Great deal on booking.com for price. Really good wifi. Beautiful building. Lovely gardens. Good size bed for a single room (almost a double).
Review 113:Loved the hotel but it was about 3 miles from the town with nothing of interest close by.There is an hourly bus just up the road but you would need to know the times. The attached pub was lovely too with gorgeous food.
Review 114:Loved the hotel and it was very quiet. Set in it's own grounds with a small lake.
Review 115:Facilities ie pool jacuzzi etc. very good stayed with granddaughter aged 15 who commented several times about politeness and helpfulness of staff. Location excellent for trip we made. Would certainly recommend to friends and will definitely stay again
Review 116:Lovely hotel, very clean, room was spacious and spotless, bed was extremely comfortable, well equipped gym, spa facilities great, lovely choice for breakfast. We would definitely stay there again and we would recommend it to our friends. Great value for money
Review 117:bed was a bit hard
Review 118:our first anniversary and had a nice located room with surprise balloons and greeting card in room and made very welcome by all friendly staff
Review 119:There was a mix-up with the booking and I was asked to pay again when I left. Once I gave the hotel the relevant info, I was refunded straight away.
Review 120:The staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel was always clean and tidy. It is ideally situated for exploring the Cotswolds on a daily basis.
Review 121:No WiFi in room No mobile phone signal in room Connecting door to next room and other guests in there very loud! From 6am!
Review 122:Pool Staff very helpful particularly in bar
Review 123:1) My elderly father walks with a stick. We were totally unaware that this hotel did not have a lift. To get to breakfast my father had to cope with 50 stairs!!! This made it very difficult and it was a disappointing experience 2) light bulbs needed replacing and i phoned this through to reception who said they would get it sorted - they didn't in the three days we were there! 3) Bath taps had been tightened so much it was very hard to turn the taps on. It took me until day two to loosen them!
Review 124:Staff in dining room were very helpful
Review 125:This hotel was fine for a night. We used the swimming pool which was nice. We really enjoyed our evening meal in the Lakeside restaurant. The hotel feels a bit impersonal as it is quite big with long corridors of rooms - good for conferences or a short stop-over rather than a romantic holiday.
Review 126:Room was rather warm and only one fan available The stairs did not have bilateral handrails and some of the floor surfaces were uneven and not marked to show a change in the level.
Review 127:Swimming pool was nice Bed was comfortable
Review 128:Poor welcome, hopeless wi-fi in room, disorganised breakfast. Standard room looks out on the car park with no privacy. If you book deluxe room your lovely bathroom will have been left on the corridor floor before it gets put in your room!!
Review 129:Leisure centre
Review 130:We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was disappointing as both main meals had the meat so overcooked that it was inedible. We were told that all meat must be cooked to 'Well Done' in the UK.
Review 131:Beautiful grounds, clean and comfortable room.
Review 132:Breakast wasn't good, cornflakes were stale, not good bacon, well overpriced, good job we booked room only, had breakfast at a Toby Carvery,a lot better and a fraction of the cost, not worth £12 at all!!
Review 133:Good location,very clean,staff were friendly.
Review 134:The tiny attic "bedroom" was very cramped and uncomfortable. The bed was tight against the wall and was virtually collapsed on one side. A very disappointing experience.
Review 135:We had some issue that the front desk forgot to pre charge our credit card for the second time. This was quickly resolved.
Review 136:The location, hotel, staff, breakfast and facilities.
Review 137:Wifi was poor in the room. Had to open the door at times to get s connection and wa slow.
Review 138:Good sized room. Good facilities including gym and pool. Nice outlook over golf course
