Reviews for YHA Cambridge
Review 1:Airconditioning wasnt really working in the room. It was stuffy and a bit smelly. And with that small window in the room it wasnt possible to let the fresh air in.
Review 2:Good location and friendly stuff. Tasty traditional English breakfast. Convinient kitchen.
Review 3:Perfect stay for a group of hens! Check-in at all times of day, breakfast for our hungover selves, soundproofing between rooms as far as we could tell, positive atmosphere throughout the whole place. Our stay was a delight and I highly recommend the place.
Review 4:There s one Guy at reception desk,he s really rude. A french girl got her shoes stolen when she left them in the luggage room, the reception Guy was so mean and unhelpful to her whom didn't speak English well.
Review 5:The lounge and common area are with cool decorations. the night Guy is nice
Review 6:The bed was a little hard, but it's just that type of bunk-bed.
Review 7:The staff were very friendly. One member of the reception staff was cracking jokes, and it just felt very welcoming. Food was excellently priced, and great value.
Review 8:Absolutely nithung
Review 9:Central spotless incredibly helpful manager. Was visiting my sick brother and he.got.me.a.map and.showed all the bus routes and bus numbers and times. Made my stay so easy
Review 10:There were a few dirt marks in the toilet room but noting too major! Oh and I think the showers should have a little ledge for all the belongings to go on
Review 11:Amazing! So friendly great atmosphere and great facilities! A definite recommend ands definite use again!!!
Review 12:It's too short for my stay.
Review 13:Staff is super friendly. YHA create the great nice environment for traveler. The kitchen is organized for people to cook and meet people together. I was amazed how friendly people that I met there. Highly recommend if you like to start your 1st experience for hostel. --Choose YHA ^^
Review 14:not eno kit in kitchen, even some basics absent not eno sofas/telly for evening blobbing bit like walking into restaurant toilets tiny
Review 15:near station clean and fresh
Review 16:Great location for the train, however, a bit of a walk into the city centre - especially if you're on a budget so can't get a taxi on a night out!
Review 17:Really clean, staff really friendly and good value breakfast - we stayed here for a night out and had no problems getting back in at 3 in the morning as reception is open 24 hours a day. The beds were very comfortable and rooms were very secure - mightily impressed!
Review 18:Same as all the yha hostels I've stayed in, it doesn´t have a sharedkitchen. As a backpacker that is highly regarded (thats the reason why Ididnt stay with the yha in Oxford, there wasnt more options in Cambridge(I've seen hostels that have both: shared kitchen and restaurant)
Review 19:The staff was really nice, and the facilties where good and comfortable
Review 20:didnt expect bunk beds. To the best of my recollection the advert said twin beds. Bed wasnt long enough for my 6ft 4ins husband. otherwise charming.
Review 21:availability of good food
Review 22:A bit more variation in food menu is needed. Snack collection need to be variety full for late night muncher's!
Review 23:It made me feel secured and homely.I loved my four days over there ^_^. For travellers like us who roam around for conferences - YHA hostels are THE BEST PLACE to stay. Neat and Clean, Stuffs are friendly & co-operative and mostly place is secured. Even if you love to travel and don't want to loose all your money over expensive hotels - just turn your back towards YHA ^_^ They have cafe and self catering services ^_^ It's like home.
Review 24:My company was not care about each other peace and the room door is banging hard. But no complain.
Review 25:The staff are extremly friendly. Thank you for their kindness!
Review 26:No wifi network in my own room except the reception area.
Review 27:Really very nice staff here and I am pretty satisfied with the room and facilities here. By the way, it is quiet to sleep here.
Review 28:Breakfast was awful. Let's get some examples of good cuisine from around the world. Sausages tasted like soap. Bacon was tasteless. Croquet was a disaster zone. Eggs were just ok
Review 29:Parking was limited but obviously due to location.
Review 30:Very friendly staff. Warm comfortable beds. Lots of good information on local amenities and area.
Review 31:maybe coz of problems of floors, I can hear clearly noisy from upper floor and isle's floor made by that people walk on the floor.
Review 32:I book a private room and visited in winter, it is sooo warm, and really clean kitchen
Review 33:Breakfast wasn't worth the money, too little for too much money.
Review 34:Very close to the station, easy to find. The room was clean and facilities were good.
Review 35:1) The staff is extremely cordial ! The breakfast (not included in the price) is very good value for money ! 2) Bathrooms, Showers : all are very clean, and all the time. 3) The is a self-catering space equipped with all necessary appliances where you can prepare or cook your own food.
Review 36:breakfast should be included in the price (as it is not a cheap hostel)
Review 37:The hostel is clean, new, comfortable beds, hot water 24h, good position, warm rooms. I would go there again
Review 38:Dealing with the rythm (noise, light) of the others. The fact that there is no sink and mirror outside the room, using the one in the room when you share and some people still slepp is not efficient ...
Review 39:I liked the facilities. The share room and the modernity of the appliances.
Review 40:reception people excellent and very friendly and always helpful cleaning staff efficient showers excellent and luggage storage room is very useful. chef makes great breakfast especially the "scrambled egg ". though sausages were a little weird tasting .. might think about Italian for the perfect BF.
Review 41:A little cramped at times. It gets very full!
Review 42:Best location for bus and train travellers. Inexpensive stay with clean rooms and facilities. Food is good. Ideal base to explore Cambridge and surrounding area. Parking is free after 5 pm on the street outside hostel.
Review 43:There is no parking provided. Lack of info about the car park nearby the hostel. Need improvement on this! Sound proofing was poor as we heard people kept running here and there upstairs. Wifi is POOR as we were unable to connect to the internet in our room!
Review 44:The location is awesome as it closes to my university, ARU. Staffs were friendly and the facilities were good. Family room is bigger than I expected so we had good night sleep!
Review 45:The showers don't drain very fast and the breakfast was expensive for what it was.
Review 46:Location (5mins from train station/supermarket/15mins to shopping) and nice clean rooms.
Review 47:No Wi-Fi in my room.
Review 48:I should say the hostel makes your stay easier. Kitchen is huge with all mod cons, proper-size lockers, toilet and shower spotless, a little shelf, plug and light switch beside each bed. Staff is always reachable and ready to help. Everything at walking distance: city centre (15min), bus stop STN airport (10min) and train station (less than 5min). I would definitely recommend everyone to stay here.
Review 49:Location was walkable to everything, and there was a bus line just one long block away, but if there was a flaw, it was that the location isn't right downtown. But it's perfect for walking a very short trip to the train station and a slightly longer trip to all the bus lines. WiFi wasn't available in the sleeping rooms, though I sometimes could get it in my first-floor room.
Review 50:First and foremost, the staffers are VERY nice, very smart people who don't hesitate to answer any question and help plan any excursion. As at a deluxe inn, you could come downstairs for a great breakfast, a full English breakfast for £5.25, and also have lunch and dinner there and then wander up to bed. The hostel's food was better than the food at the nearby restaurants I tried and also better priced. Even the wine was good and there was a selection of drinks and snacks to please everyone. Our 4-person dorm room had its own shower, sink, and bathroom, and the windows opened on fresh air, a pleasure most hotels don't offer. The kitchen for travelers was high-end. This is the best hostel I've encountered.
Review 51:There was a weird smell in the lobby, somewhat stuffy....but a window can be opened and it is all good. Not really a turn off.
Review 52:This is the second time I stay at a YHA Hostel and I can only say I have enjoyed it. Good location, clean, really nice ambiance and people, all necessary comforts. Could only recommend.
Review 53:Wifi only at common area. It should cover rooms too. And attached bathroom in my room though very convenient, the used water couldn't flow out fast enough. I was like bathing in flood. Other than that quite good.
Review 54:Convenience. Near to train station Especially good if you reach Cambridge at night.
Review 55:Haha, it should be the only free wifi in public area.
Review 56:Except there is only free wifi in public area, the other things are totally excellent! I love the environment, I love the bathroom and shower room, I love the bunk bed! And the staff there are extremely friendly!
Review 57:WiFi only downstairs in common area. My room was on the second floor. No lift, and quite narrow staircases to drag luggage up, each topped with a fire door that needed to be unlocked with a key card. Made getting my large bag up to the room pretty annoying. Shared bathrooms were average - toilets in tiny rooms, separate showers had only a few hooks for clothes, and water ran right across floor so anything left on the floor got wet. Quite a long walk into town (about 2 miles I think). Had to pay £2 if you wanted a secure locker in the luggage room. Very limited options for secure storage in the dorm room (one lockable cupboard for 4 beds). Also little floor space for bags.
Review 58:Very quiet at night. Good communal area with comfy sofas and lots of tables. Staff mostly friendly and helpful. Close to station.
Review 59:Nothing
Review 60:Nice place. Friendly staff. The manager, Ian was excellent, very helpful and polite. Overall a good place to stay. Thanks to the staff and to Ian
Review 61:Considering it is a hostel, it was all good!
Review 62:I was pleasantly surprised because I have never stayed in a hostelbefore. It was nothing like I imagined. For a hostel, it wasabsolutely ace!The space was tight and I would have preferred an en suite but hostels do not usually offer that service. It was lovely.
Review 63:I probably have encountered the worst room-mate ever... but that's not hostel fault. However, I think the hostel is a bit overpriced.
Review 64:The hostel is very neat and close enough to everywhere. Train station is just around the corner and with a short walk - 15' - you are in the centre of the city. The hall area is very nice - with a really cool picture of the most famous big-brains that were at Cambridge. The rooms were very nice with plugs and light next to each bed and wardrobes for everyone. I noticed the hostel hosted people of all the ages and any time of travellers, solos and whole families - that's great!
Review 65:no wifi in the bedrooms
Review 66:Very friendly accommodating staff, spotlessly clean hostel in all areas. Very very comfortable and in fact better than some hotels I've stayed in.
Review 67:On saturday at 4 am a group of young guys arrived and woke us up and the whole floor too by screaming and shouting and walking with the heaviest steps and even knocking hardly on our own room's door: it's been a nightmare!
Review 68:The place was quite confortable and, by far, the cheapest option in Cambridge.
Review 69:My only gripe is that the hostel is located quite a way from the city centre. It is a good walk of over a mile, although the fact that it is based in a peaceful residential area has its perks, too.
Review 70:A lovely warm welcome from the friendly staff, very comfortable beds with deep mattresses, the hostel is very clean throughout, and is based in a good residential area, around only eight minutes' walk from the railway station. I felt very comfy, safe, and happy staying here as a solo traveller. Good meals are served at the hostel and there is a bar. There is a also a lovely courtyard at the rear of the building - a great place to while away a balmy summer's evening with a drink.
Review 71:Wifi broken the first day, but repaired quickly. Slamming doors by some inconsiderate guests.
Review 72:Big kitchen, lounge, friendly staff, easy walk to center, free parking not far away, very nice atmosphere
Review 73:Wifi not available in rooms.
Review 74:A lamp and power socket on every bed. Bathrooms are clean. Staff are really really friendly and helpful. Kitchen is well-equipped. Breakfast is delicious although not served for free.
Review 75:it was a bit of a walk to the sights walls aren't particularly soundproof and there were screeching kids in the hallway until around 8pm
Review 76:It was so close to the train station I think going here in groups or staying for longer, would give a better experience of the facilities at YHA Cambridge, but I only stayed for half a day helpful staff, and tips on special sights of the day *Incredibly good for people who need to catch a plane early next morning considering the alternative prizes in London and Stansted
Review 77:Our room 210 at the top of the building was like an oven! We had a small fan which wasn't adequate in a room with 6 people on hot nights. Too hot to sleep!
Review 78:The staff were excellent. Really friendly and helpful and the hostel itself was spotlessly clean. Having a plug point and a reading light next to each bed was brilliant.
Review 79:Nothing except for the roommates checked in midnight. However i know it is not the hotel's problem.
Review 80:Within 5 minute walk to the rail station which is quite good! Nice staff, clean room and easy hot water. Great value of money in such an expensive town Cambridge.
Review 81:There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms only hall and lounge. The location is not bad, but a little far from the city center.
Review 82:The room was large enough for a family of four. The shower was great and so was the separated toilet.
Review 83:Very noisy because you can hear the walking sounds of people no matter they are in the same floor as you do or in the upper floors. During our stay, we came across a group of teenagers who were very active and energetic playing all around the hostel. That was a little bit horrible noisy night.
Review 84:Everything is good and the location is fantastic. My parents and I love Cambridge very much.
Review 85:a little hot - lack of air conditioning
Review 86:Showers/toilets Rooms very clean Decent breakfast (costs £5.25) Charger/light for every bed Big lockers Quiet area
Review 87:The walls were thin and overall noise isolation was poor. Room was smaller than expected.
Review 88:Common areas included a comfy guest lounge, ample kitchen and nice bar/reception area. Staff was friendly. Great water pressure in the shower.
Review 89:Our group of 9 ordered 9 dinners on a Saturday evening. The last of our meals came out over 90 minutes after placing the order. Communication was the only issue - we would have appreciated a warning the kitchen was taking so long.
Review 90:Great staff, very friendly. Clean compact accommodation. Great value
Review 91:Maybe not enough toilets and showers.
Review 92:The staff is friendly. All the facilities are in good conditions and really clean. The kitchen is great. They have 3 full sets of cooking facilities: stove, oven, microwave, basin, pans. You can also ask their staff to post your postcards which is really handy.
Review 93:Wifi only available in the public lounge, only 2 showers and 2 toilets on every floor.
Review 94:Comfortable bed and there's a power outlet beside every bed. Clean facilities, toilets, and showers. Wonderful room mates!
Review 95:It is really very cheap, but I can only bear one night there. For a traveler, time is the most expensive.
Review 96:The place is really good because it is near the train station.
Review 97:The breakfast was more than 5 pounds. Many hostels have free breakfast for the same price per night.
Review 98:Exelent for a hostel. Good communal areas, Location close to the train station and city center.
Review 99:We didn't have any bad experience to comment on!
Review 100:We loved how we immediately felt at home! Staff were very friendly and helpful! Service with a smile!
Review 101:Too much secured, too many doors to swiped to open, stairs are narrow, room size are really small. Apart from that, all good.
Review 102:Good location, close to train station, fairly acceptable walking distance to city centre. Bed was comfortable, room mates were friendly.
Review 103:Not much friendly hostel atmosphere from guests' part (the staff were OK), everyone minding his/her own business not and some people a bit noisy.
Review 104:Clean and comfortable
Review 105:Everything was put up with a price. Not mind paying but the feeling just ain't good.
Review 106:the room is really clean and cozy. and staffs leave humorous notice everywhere.
Review 107:My bed (which is one of the six in a female room) is just under the roof that is inclined so the space is smaller and crowed.
Review 108:Friendly environment and nice atmosphere.
Review 109:Typical YHA style, free wifi for the common area only..
Review 110:-The location is perfect, just few minutes away from the rail station. -There is a luggage room on the ground floor, so no worry about early arriving!
Review 111:The uncomplicated, relaxed atmosphere. All the needs when one is traveling are catered for in a friendly, helpful, unobtrusive manner. The staff at reception were very accomplished and welcomed us in a genuine, friendly manner.
Review 112:Not a huge number of showers and toilets on each floor (I never had to wait, but if the hostel was very full I can imagine it would be a problem), a bit expensive for a hostel (£25/night for dorm bed) but cheaper than elsewhere in very expensive Cambridge
Review 113:Really nice recently renovated hostel, comfortable beds (reading light, shelf and power outlet for each bed is a great feature), nice large common kitchen, good location not far from station and 15 minute walk to the centre of town
Review 114:The wifi does not work in the room.
Review 115:The staff was very friendly and helpful in term of providing places to visit. I like the fact that they have lock-in box for me to leave my stuff while doing a walking tour of the city.
Review 116:Please tell in web that we need to bring towel. We had to go to town to buy one!!!!
Review 117:Room is clean and big enough for 5 peoples and very comfort bed with thick duvet
Review 118:The location is a little out of town. It would have been nicer to be a little closer, but the walk was pleasant.
Review 119:The hostel is very well looked after. It's modern and clean. The rooms are very spacious and safe. The staff are lovely and very helpful.
Review 120:Tiny toilets and bathrooms. It wasn't very quiet since there was a teenage group of pupils running around at night.
Review 121:Good location. Clean and comfortable. Cozy lounge.
Review 122:Comfortable, accessible, friendly safe place to stay. It was great to be able to sit and read in the lobby with a pot of tea. Also appreciated the fact I could leave my bag after I had checked out.somewhere
Review 123:Hostellers arriving drunk at 3am and waking everyone up- but that isn't the hostel's fault!
Review 124:Facilities, cost, friendly staff, clean, comfy bed.
Review 125:As for a hostel, it is quite expensive, and for anything extra you need to pay - whether it is the use of the lockers (I needed to change the room after first night, so had to pay for a lockers, even though I had two days booked in a row) or use of computer to upload info in memory stick (not internet even!). Breakfast is also extra payment, and was very bad and quite unfresh, with long, long queuing. Lunched were more or less ok, but nothing spectacular for that price. Spaces - rooms and showers are very small, and the hostel is usually packed. Super heavy fire doors everywhere. Wifi is only in the public area, not in the rooms. Also, in both days they had noisy groups of teenagers. So, don't stay there if you come for business or study.
Review 126:The hostel is situated next to the railway station, and also close to the bus station. The heating in the room was working well. The furniture is new. Staff is friendly. Nothing more to like, actually.
Review 127:noise from the nextdoor room late at night; somebody puked in the toilet, resulting in the bad smell in the whole aisle
Review 128:Nice staff, big self-catering kitchen
Review 129:I didnt like the fact that wifi was only available in the dining area.
Review 130:I really liked the location and the fact that the sraff were really helpful and nice to us.
Review 131:Just an snoring young fellow in our dorm but there was almost no noise in corridors which is surprisingly good for a hostel.
Review 132:I found the facilities, staff and cleanliness of this hostel much better compared to couple of hotels I have stayed in on my previous visits to Cambridge. I was quite surprised by how clean and comfortable this hostel is. The location is great, close to train station, tourist attraction and most of the colleges. There is a clean communal kitchen, a lounge with comfy sofas and some board games, clean showers and toilets. ps. I must say I haven't stayed in any hostels except a few in Scotland 6 years ago. Have I been able to plan my visit earlier I'd probably stayed in a reasonably priced hotel, which are hard to find in Cambridge anyway.
Review 133:Wi fi not in the rooms. Floors very noisy when someone run along the hall.
Review 134:Bed was very comfortable Cleanliness and organization Staff very friendly and helpful Good location, 10 minutes walk to the city centre.
Review 135:Wifi sometimes is unstable but i think it's kind of normal in England....
Review 136:Super helpful and friendly staff, clean and comfortable surroundings, fantastic location !
Review 137:Being in a 6 bed dorm you never know if there will be people arriving at 2am or leaving at 6am being noisy getting to bed, with rustling plastic bags. This time around I had a Japanese girl in the bunk below who was fast asleep from 9.30pm until 6.30am, but her phone kept receiving e-mails all night, which made a noise. But it was ok as I had ear plugs which made it quieter. Always make sure you wear ear plugs in dorms. Also, bring your own padlock and key for the lockers by your bed just in case.
Review 138:Very comfortable bed. Very clean everywhere. Very warm room. Very good working and clean showers.
Review 139:I have stayed in hostels where they have had curtains on the bunks which would have helped improve privacy and resolved issues with people turning on the lights in the middle of night or morning. But apart from this the facilities were great.
Review 140:I have stayed in many hostel, but this hostel had the best facilities and is the cleaniest i have ever stayed in.I enjoyed how even though it was a saturday night, the room was quiet and i got enough sleep which i was not expecting sharing a room with 5 other people. I liked how the beds each had their own indidivudla plus sockets and lights.
Review 141:The sitting area at the front wasn't very comfortable. The toilets on the floor I was on were not very clean (maybe that was the fault of the young Europeans I was sharing a dorm with) and just in case said person ever reads this. If your going to spend the whole night hacking your lungs up and talking to yourself. Think of the other people in the dorm and go to the social areas, so you don't keep everyone awake al-night.
Review 142:The location to Cambridge Railway Station Is just around the corner. Most areas where clean and quiet and the staff where helpful.
Review 143:No WiFi in room. The doors were extremely heavy and there was no way to let them close without a loud bang. The shower rooms had no hooks or place to put clothes, towels etc.and there was not a shower screen to protect against water splash during shower. The hand wash basins were tiny for washing hands and there was no place to put things needed.
Review 144:The staff were helpful and friendly. The kitchen was bright and well-equipped. Electric power sockets were adequate and well-located.
