Reviews for The Metropole

Review 1:The hotel itself is early 20th century, has high ceilings and is pretty grand. It's warm and comfortable inside, has lots of parking and is very close to the Padstow shops. We went to visit a couple of restaurants and it really couldn't be a in a better location. The bathrooms have recently been refurbished, very spacious and modern, with great shower pressure. I had one breakfast at the hotel, it was a good selection of hot and cold foods including quite generous selection of cured meats and nice cheese, a bit better than standard hotel breakfast buffets.

Review 2:The pressure of the shower was terrible and certainly not what you expect in a 4 star hotel.

Review 3:One of the most comfortable hotel beds we have slept in The food and service in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 4:Hotel is looking a bit tired, standard and quality has definitely deteriorated over the last few years. As long standing customers would have expected a better view from the window and not the fire escape through a tiny window

Review 5:The location is ideal

Review 6:Not keen on the amount of dogs in hotel bar at times

Review 7:Staff were so helpful and friendly . Location is perfect and a reserved blue badge car parking space made life easier .

Review 8:Nothing to dislike

Review 9:We stayed for 4 nights during the padstow Christmas market, the location of the hotel was fantastic. We found the hotel to be extremely comfortable and clean. The lounge and dinning room had beautiful views over the estuary and Our room was spacious and tastefully furnished. Breakfasts where delicious with plenty of choice, and finally it was a pleasure to stay in a hotel where all the staff team were so friendly and helpful. We would definetly book here again.

Review 10:Parking was a mission as was the shower, regrettably breakfast took 40 minutes to arrive, mine was fine but my husband's was murdered and mostly inedible, not the best end to an otherwise wonderful weekend

Review 11:Hotel location, room, balcony view, comfy bed, beautifully decorated communal rooms, friendliest and most helpful staff ever!

Review 12:I have stayed here several times and would always recommend it. However a couple of the rooms are looking a little tired. This time my shower was very difficult to turn on

Review 13:Staff are very friendly and welcoming

Review 14:Had an "adjoining" room. Not very good at all with "noisy" neighbours. Shower cramped.

Review 15:Loved the spa, Bryony is superb & well worth a visit. Excellent location for town access

Review 16:very much like a rest home for old people! sorry nice staff! and thank you for my wife's birthday bottle of wine!

Review 17:good value and central to Padstow

Review 18:The breakfasts were great; ample amounts, good quality, the cold food was cold and the hot food was really hot. The staff were most pleasant and genuinely seemed to enjoy their work. Any issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The heating in our room wasn't working when we arrived but, after explaining this to the staff at reception, we were moved to another room immediately. A great place to stay all in all!

Review 19:Hotel just looking a little tired in places.

Review 20:Courteous, professional staff, comfortable and pleasant public rooms. Excellent position overlooking the estuary and near the town. Excellent food.

Review 21:Our room was a little out of date, the bed was uncomfortable. A little refurb throughout the hotel would make it a much nicer place to stay. But this wouldn't put me off staying here again.

Review 22:Location is spot on and considering the amount of dogs that were there the hotel was very clean at all times. We would stay here again if we had a dog with us.

Review 23:Thought it was slightly overpriced for mid October at £150.00 for a single room booked well in advance.

Review 24:Wonderful location with stunning sea views. Right next door to Rick Stein's Restaurant. Delightful air of slightly faded elegance. Welcoming staff throughout the hotel.

Review 25:No internet in our room.

Review 26:Wonderful views, helpful and friendly staff, many inviting public rooms, delicious food. I love the grand staircase and the way the sitting rooms all look out over the inlet.

Review 27:The room was very nice but a bit too hot - even with no heat on.

Review 28:Lovely hotel in a great location with very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. There was gluten free available, which was a very pleasant surprise.

Review 29:The car park was a bit of a let down. The bays were too small .

Review 30:The grandure of the building. The location and the ever changing views. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful experience.

Review 31:One gripe, although not a complaint really, room 105 is just below the restaurant/bar area, we didn't realise this at first, we thought we had noisy people in the room above! There are loose floorboards so that every time someone walked over them we heard, first thing in the morning and late at night.

Review 32:Relaxing,friendly and helpful staff excellent food

Review 33:Would have been great if pool was open ....and spa more easily accessible.

Review 34:Location. Dog friendly. Staff polite and friendly atmosphere Nice bar with fantastic view. Substantial freshly cooked breakfast.

Review 35:The size of the bedroom, the facilities, the elegance and comfort of the hotel. The wonderfully friendly staff who were so welcoming. Despite its luxury, it was very relaxing.

Review 36:Only that I was there for just one night!

Review 37:This hotel couldn't have been any better. All staff friendly and helpful without exception. Room lovely, peaceful and spotless. Dinner and Breakfast excellent.

Review 38:Bathroom was a little dire with stained bath due to age not cleanliness. Toilet handle was wobbly also bath mat seemed a little old and tired.

Review 39:Stunning view over bay from window. Beautiful hotel Clean sheets and bedding.. Staff friendly, helpful and always smiling. great location for walking into Padstow.

Review 40:Just the overpowering smell of the fresh flowers in the reception area, I do not react well to stargazer Lilies.

Review 41:The complete friendliness of the whole staff, cleanliness and willingness to help out in anyway that was possible. One of the best breakfasts we have ever tasted and also an excellent choice of breakfast menu. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay.

Review 42:Wifi connection only worked on the ground floor.

Review 43:Location and staff were superb. Great bedrooms although some in need of a bit of modernisation. The main rooms on the ground floor were amazing, particularly the dining room with stunning views over Padstow.

Review 44:Food quality very poor, my elderly Mother wasn't given any advice to sort out her own breakfast toast which meant leaving her food to go cold. Asked for a single scoop of ice cream for desert one evening as she has small appetite and charged £7.

Review 45:Location of the hotel, and the staff were good

Review 46:Too hot and stuffy. Car park in a dreadful state with massive pot holes. Very tired looking rooms.

Review 47:Good location. Nice lawn and steps to access road to harbour below.

Review 48:Noisy sash windows, you need to pull the catch across

Review 49:The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were given an upgrade to a room with a sea view. The food in the restaurant and bistro was very good and there was a good selection of breakfast food.

Review 50:view of the car park from room. Squeaky floor boards of room above, as those visitors always got up earlier than us and woke us up.

Review 51:Breakfast was fantastic and the views from the dining room were superb. The room was amazing because it was a 'super double'

Review 52:the room was a bit tired .the bathroom door could do with a clean. the tv had few stations the bed was soft and could feel the springs

Review 53:the location and the car park. the staff were very helpful

Review 54:Not a criticism, but the crane working with the dredger in the quayside was quite audible at 0500 hrs. There was a dark patch of mould in the shower area. This could be easily removed with an application of Dettol mould remover, applied every month.

Review 55:Excellent food and service. The Standard room ( day one) was somewhat basic, but the Exec room we had for days 2 and 3 was fine.

Review 56:From the time we arrived the reception staff were friendly and very helpful . Our room was perfect with a wonderful view of the estuary. We enjoyed our breakfasts and our meals in the dining room and brasserie served by delightful staff.

Review 57:Room 20 bathroom smelt of cabbage. Breakfast was chaotic as there appeared to be no leadership e.g no dedicated person to meet guests and seat them, replenishment of buffet. All very uncoordinated.

Review 58:Location, room, swimming pool, staff, breakfast food was very good.

Review 59:Lack of wifi was a problem and the rooms were a bit old fashioned and shabby. One of the radiators had loose wires and the window that backed onto a fire escape did not lock properly

Review 60:Location was good and staff were very friendly

Review 61:The views were great, the staff more than helpful. The hotel was very clean. The bedroom size was good and the bathroom was very well fitted out with a separate shower and bath. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Review 62:Great location within short walk of Padstow Harbour and shops. Staff friendly and always helpful. Brasserie offered great selection if a large evening meal was not your choice.

Review 63:We had a very relaxing time at the Metropole Hotel,. The food was wonderful , being a vegetarian I would have liked more choice, saying that what I had was delicious. All the staff were friendly and helpful especially those in the Restaurant.

Review 64:car park full of potholes and very uneven. window sill in the lounge dirty with dead flies and wasps.fire doors that you could see daylight between the door and door jam.

Review 65:Reception didn't give us any info about the hotel, what they offer, where and what time breakfast started

Review 66:Location was perfect with wonderful views

Review 67:Floor boards were very creaky Bed old and lumpy Bedside light not working Unable to see tv from bed Shower ran at a trickle Shower cubicle broken Wall paper very tatty and peeling back Windows rattled badly if opened for ventilation No Wifi signal to room

Review 68:Breakfast and size of room, nice staff

Review 69:I was surprised to be charged a 1.5% credit card surcharge. If the hotel is the high class establishment it purports to be (and which its charges imply) then it should be able to cover its credit card costs within its overall income rather than use a surcharge which would be expected of a small guest house or B&B. We were also disappointed that a wedding reception meant restrictions in where we could eat.

Review 70:The room was quite comfortable although the two chairs were a bit hard to sit in for long. It would be nice to get decent armchairs for the price paid. There was plenty of space and the bathroom was excellent.

Review 71:Our standard room overlooked a fire escape and during the night we heard people using this a number of times.

Review 72:Parking was good and free. Most of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 73:Wifi is non-existent. Location reflected in the cost.

Review 74:The staff were very friendly and the location was excellent. Breakfast was very nice, varied and plentiful.

Review 75:The lift is rather old and judders when reaching its destination which is very disconcerting.

Review 76:The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to help you. The outdoor pool is well maintained and was virtually empty when I used it.

Review 77:Parts of the building need a bit of a facelift but overall a lovely seaside hotel

Review 78:Location, staff were friendly and helpful, great views from the breakfast room

Review 79:not been able to get wifi in room. Rooms need an upgrade in decor and furniture as rather old and worn to fit its 4 star grading of the hotel.

Review 80:all the staff were very friendly and helpful...view from room was brill, food excellent

Review 81:One of the breakfast staff was more interested in chatting than serving and was rather casual in her manner. This was not jiovana who seemed to do a lot of the work along with the male staff.

Review 82:Location and the room view and the friendly staff. Gentle relaxed experience.

Review 83:Booked for sea view room for 2 nights. First night was in attic room (room 41) which was hardly worth the price paid. Fortunately was moved to room 6 for second night which was excellent. WiFi was non existent in bedrooms

Review 84:Very helpful staff, excellent breakfast and generally very clean

Review 85:Very over priced for what it is. I wouldn't say this was a four star. A top three star maybe! No wifi apart from in the communal area.

Review 86:Excellent location and very friendly staff.

Review 87:I booked through website who said I could add my 17 year old daughter to our room if required, but when we got to hotel this wasn't possible. Had to pay for a separate room.

Review 88:Comfortable hotel, good food and friendly staff

Review 89:Small thing but the door to the bathroom needs to turned round to open the other way. You had to leave the bathroom door shut as the bedroom door banged into it. It is so simple to do and there is loads of space.

Review 90:The massive sea view room we stayed in. It was so comfy and relaxing. We were staying for our 25th wedding anniversary and were left a bottle of complimentary Prosecco. A lovely touch. Thank you.

Review 91:The room was a little small and needs updating the mattress could have been a little better too .

Review 92:The food was delicious and well presented. The location is brilliant. Staff were very friendly.

Review 93:The hotel is a large hotel within walking distance from the centre of Padstow. The hotel has a lovely dining room and bar lounge with spectacular views of the harbour and estuary .We can highly recommend the food in the hotel restaurant.

Review 94:Being charged for sewing kit..........0.85p. Bed very uncomfortable and a ground floor room opening onto gardens means you have to keep curtains drawn as dog walkers gawp in all the time. Owners young children running wild and staff afraid to stop them. At check in we couldn't access the desk because a child was climbing all over it, couldn't understand why they were not being removed until we found out they were owner's children, not impressive!

Review 95:The staff, very friendly, helpful and attentive. Restaurant food very good also

Review 96:Paid extra for seaviwe room but there was a piece of walling outside the window which restricted the view. Room was very small for a double room. Cooked breakfast was not the best.

Review 97:Location was excellent. Staff very pleasant.

Review 98:Hotel shows signs of age and looks a little tired. The bathroom door didnt shut properly, the extractor fan didnt work, great big chip out side of toilet basin, paint on ceiling peeling, tile grout blackened, bedside light didnt work.Coffee table had drink stains and scratches on it

Review 99:Great location

Review 100:Room quite small. Mould on bathroom tiles. Bath panel needs replacing. No wifi.

Review 101:Location excellent. Breakfast very good & always piping hot. Staff very friendly & helpful.

Review 102:the car park was limited and hard to park your car to the point mine had damage done while parked there

Review 103:The view was the best! the staff were brilliant and rooms were great breakfast was very good everywhere was clean and comfortable

Review 104:Nothing to complain about at all.

Review 105:Lovely welcome at reception, friendly staff, and super room! Ideal central location. Bit pricey but overall worth it.

Review 106:WiFi was atrocious - we never got it to work. This meant that the lounge was packed with guests trying to log on. The lift was funky and the carpark needs resurfacing. Very expensive rooms. Shower over bath needs to be banned as a health and safety issue.

Review 107:Fantastic View. Breakfast cooked for you from a menu. Really close to town. Handy parking. Friendly helpful staff. Restaurant was good and affordable with a good wine list.

Review 108:Our room, no.18, was a bit old fashioned. Not intolerable but old paintwork and decor rarely looks clean. Worst thing was the smell of stale urine, which I mentioned gently to reception but was not rectified, and rather spoilt my stay.

Review 109:Location excellent Staff friendly Breakfast first class

Review 110:The bed wasn't comfortable and the floorboards creaked beyond the point of being ridiculous. Building was very tired and drab on the outside and rooms could have done with some tlc. We thought it was very over priced although I guess you always pay more for location!

Review 111:Fantastic location...staff excellent!

Review 112:WiFi, whilst free, was very flaky - I think overwhelmed by numbers of people trying to connect at any but the quietest periods: they really need to invest in upgraded routers! Also not available in our bedrooms

Review 113:Fabulous location with views over harbour. Very friendly staff. Nice "family hotel" rather than "commercial chain" atmosphere

Review 114:but car park always full. Our room needed some re-decoration to bring it back to 4* standard.

Review 115:Great location, easy stroll into the habour, large car park.....

Review 116:Room 2. cramped, dated & tired, uncomfortable mattress, Bathroom. no fan, poor shower, general poor condition. Lack of atmosphere in public areas, Poor bar facilities, errors on breakfast orders. Staff generally didn't look happy. Poor parking facilities.

Review 117:The location. First two mornings breakfast. The barman on the latter part of our weeks stay (Wed Aug 5th -Fri Aug 7th 2015) was very good.

Review 118:Very friendly staff; great location especially when you are dining at the Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant which is just a staircase away. The building itself has a lot of character, has a beautiful lawn and only minutes away from the Padstow harbour

Review 119:For the room tariff, i expected a minifridge , iron and ironing board and trouser press .( The staff provided an iron and board whenever requested.) Also a shelf could have been put over the basin under the mirror instead of using the window sill opposite for bath items.

Review 120:Friendly welcoming staff. On arrival , was given a personalised welcome letter. The hotel is right on the sea front easy to get into town, great views of the sea.

Review 121:There were many things, some facilities were broken, the coffee was dreadful and the lift was bordering on dangerous. The price was ridiculous.

Review 122:There was nothing to "like best". The value for money was dismal.

Review 123:The room was really very small and it was a shame that there was no minibar, particularly as the price was really quite high.

Review 124:Haddock for breakfast and the crab pate for supper!

Review 125:The decor of the room was tired, peeling wallpaper and scuff marks. The bathroom tiles and shower curtain were very mouldy. The carpet had pet hair under the bed area. We had a ground floor room and when we arrived approx 5pm, there was dirty crockery on the table, which remained there until the next day. We did comment on the bathroom and were told the rooms were due to be refurbished in due course

Review 126:Location, outdoor pool, car park, view from our room and sitting outside on the terrace.

Review 127:Water pressure very poor Room extremely hot Certain elements dirty in the bathroom Breakfast very slow and quality and availability poor

Review 128:Location and welcome and contact from the hotel prior

Review 129:Poor room considering that we were booked under an egagment celebration, dirty, poor Brk, run down lobby, malfunctioning lift, dirt hall ways, leaking roof on our landing, it ruined our weekend, we booked for two nights and left after the first.

Review 130:The room was shabby and the bed was knackered, the shower curtain stuck to you like a ghastly leech. The bar shut at 11 pm when the night porter was supposed to take over but he was a miserable unwelcoming man his attitude made having another drink unbearable.

Review 131:Parking is tight but that is Padstow. Could be improved by using some of the area in front of the hotel. Tricky but possible.

Review 132:Location very good. Good Richardson Hotel set up. Would be pleased to stay again.

Review 133:hotel decor and furnishings very dated and old fashioned. Felt a bit like an old people's home.

Review 134:fantastic location staff very friendly and helpfull

Review 135:Only one little thing annoyed me was when we checked in and got our room key we then went to the lift which unfortunately had bags of laundry in it not sure if it was clean or used laundry and there wasn't enough room for both of us to get in at the same time

Review 136:We liked everything about our stay at the metropole great staff great breakfasts great location.

Review 137:Lift needed some attention. Car park was a bit tight.

Review 138:Views were spectacular. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free tea while awaiting check-in.
