Reviews for Dukes Head Hotel

Review 1:The corridor to the top rooms (in the attic basically) is not well lit. You're expected to stumble around in the dark until the "auto-sensor" recognises that you're there. Could do with another sensor as you come into the corridor otherwise there's going to be an accident.

Review 2:The location was perfect, the staff were friendly and the food was good.

Review 3:I really can't think of anything negative.

Review 4:We chose the hotel for it's location and reasonable rate. We booked a "small room" but actually it felt bigger than I expected and it was cosy and comfortable.

Review 5:Room very small , will return but would request larger room,

Review 6:The location was excellent and staff very helpful would recommend, was given a complimentary breakfast , as we have stayed before of which I found to be a nice gesture

Review 7:Room was dark as the lighting was too dim. No brighter bulbs available. Hair dryer too forceful could do with a end piece.

Review 8:Location friendly staff good public area. Excellent food.various snacks very nicely served.

Review 9:Lack of coziness in the lounge and the food smell that hangs about in the Restauant and breakfast area. We stopped eating in the restaurant and opened a window in the breakfast area

Review 10:The location comfort in the rooms and the parking

Review 11:Some noise from the pub behind the hotel. Restaurant staff were a little lax when waiting on our table (needed to ask for the menu after being seated at our table for quite a while; tea order arrived but a reminder was necessary for the coffee order) .

Review 12:Friendly staff, lovely large lounge and very comfortable bed. Good location in a quite square but also very close to all the main shops.

Review 13:This is the 2nd/ 3rd year that this hotel has been booked to avoid driving home after the Christmas party and each year has been delightful. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the rooms are lovely, will defiantly book again next year.

Review 14:Nothing hotel, location was spot on and the staff are very helpful

Review 15:Stayed in the penthouse suite perfect for a family very spacious and well laid out wifi was a great bonus with the kids

Review 16:The apartment is located at top of building. The stairs to access iscthe exit route which I understand. Just my daughter didn't like it. Also when left, didn't automatically get told we needed a code so had to ring from the car to get out. Apartment also cold in the afternoon.

Review 17:Location really good.

Review 18:No bad experience at all. All good.

Review 19:Great location right in the middle of town at the square. The hotel has obviously made a big investment in its property as everything seems very new. The décor and the furnishings are of an excellent standard. The hotel was spotless clean and had a lovely feel about it. If arriving by car, please do not be put off by look of the entrance from the car park. It's about a 100 yards walk to the main reception from the main car park. I never had the opportunity to eat in the hotel but the food I saw, looked excellent. Excellent free Wi-Fi service as well. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 20:Just the lack of vegetarian choices on the breakfast as my wife is a vegetarian.

Review 21:The room in general was fantastic as this was a beautiful room to spend our wedding night in. The heated in the bathroom was also a nice surprise.

Review 22:the window in room 2 needs attention as it fits very badly and rattled all night because of the wind and also lets in a terrible draught. the lighting in the room was much too dim virtually impossible to see in any mirror including the bathroom . too much black and brown décor throughout.

Review 23:the location was very good for visiting the town and near by attractions. staff were welcoming and friendly.

Review 24:If you arrive in the car park at the back, the architecture is particularly uninspiring and you also have to walk round the building to the front (quite a way). This would be very inconvenient if raining.

Review 25:We were attending a charity ball actually in the Hotel, so it was the obvious place to stay. Everything was satisfactory.

Review 26:No entrance near car park. Toilet didn't flush properly. Room set at 30 degrees on arrival! Shower taps broken and unable to reduce temp below 42 degrees. No offer of a price reduction when complaint made.

Review 27:Comfy beds and good sized room with tea and coffee making facilities. Quiet even though room was next to a side road.

Review 28:Restaurant pre booked by a coach party on 1st night with no attempt to pre notify other guests.

Review 29:Room well equipped at this price point and had central heating you could control with windows that opened. Good parking. Internet worked.

Review 30:Hotel was situated centrally in Kings Lynn, very close to where I needed to be, staff were pleasant, polite and helpful, room nice and clean and comfortable, very nice en suite. Could do with more milk cartons for drinks.

Review 31:Not a very good service for breakfast. Food was OK, but replenishment on the servery was slow and the food was barely warm.

Review 32:Excellent, central location in a fine, historic building. Apart from the mishap regarding breakfast, our stay was otherwise very good, and I can recommend the Duke's Head Hotel. I would certainly stay here again.

Review 33:Could add a bit more for breakfast such as fish gingers for vegetarians

Review 34:Staff was pleasant and friendly. The food was good. Our room was clean and spacious

Review 35:Small car park, we managed to find a space but if not would have had to have parked on market place outside which would have been expensive. Shame hotel couldn't do deal with council for flat charge for hotel guests. Also, wanted breakfast in our room but request wasn't collected form our door we noticed in the morning so had to go down to dining room

Review 36:Great location for going to Corn Exchange

Review 37:The room was not double glazed and there was quite a lot of noise from the adjacent street but we accept that this is a very old building and probably planning restrictions prevented the upgrading of the windows

Review 38:The hotel was in a central location and ideal for the Concert we were going to, also for shopping

Review 39:Only one thing, I could have done with a sandwich after the main meal time and although they advertised sandwiches, I couldn't get any answer from room service. Other than that it was great.

Review 40:Lovely clean, comfortable hotel, great rooms, nicely decorated, massive shower which could have fit three people in there never mind just little me. Good lounge areas, breakfast, good service.

Review 41:The last floor to the penthouse you have to take on the very dirty and stinky fire stairs. The carpet in the penthouse was smelling damp.

Review 42:The lobby was nice. We had a three bed apartment for a very reasonable price

Review 43:There was nothing bad to say about the hotel.

Review 44:The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and tidy. My son 9 year old and I liked the room because it had a bath with shower over the bath. The staff was very polite and helpful

Review 45:Unfortunately out of the 3 days we stayed we had no hot water although the manager took 50% off one night of our stay it wasn't good enough for the amount of money we paid. Car park was full so had to pay for parking. Having no hot water spoilt our stay this time

Review 46:I have stayed in this hotel before. It's a lovely place very central with shops bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Some rooms are very nice others not so nice but overall this is a lovely place to stay

Review 47:Although we had a family room, we were put next to a normal room and the occupants of that room were playing loud music at 2am until 3am

Review 48:Friendly staff on arrival and during stay

Review 49:Car parking appalling. I was totally blocked in by an idiot, and the staff on reception couldn't have cared less. I was also lied to by reception. As a result I would never ever stay there again. I will pay the extra and stay at The Bank Hotel.

Review 50:Staff at breakfast were great.

Review 51:No hot water for two days. Had to have cold showers after being told someone was coming to take a look and not showing up. Was promised to have it sorted whilst we was at a wedding. Nothing changed.

Review 52:The hotel parking is very limited and far from the entrance. I actually preferred using the public Parking especially because it was cheap

Review 53:The location was second to none. It was next to restaurants and the shops. If you couldn't fine any parking at the hotel there was plenty of parking even if it was full in the car park which is directly in front of the hotel. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed my stay

Review 54:Several problems in bathroom; slow draining basin, missing shower tap heads, luke warm shower, leaking shower tray etc. Staff totally uninterested when these problems pointed out. Fixed head shower but no shower caps provided as 'they get stolen'!

Review 55:Great location on Tuesday Market with off street parking. Good restaurant food but slowish service.

Review 56:The restaurant had no record of our booking that we had made, and we were kept waiting while staff who spoke poor English ran to find a manager to consult, this despite plenty of available seating. After eating our starter, we waited 45 minutes before a waitress asked if we were waiting for something, our answer - yes our dinner. Unprofessional, untrained waiting staff let this lovely hotel down. Girls kept apologising that they were just training, maybe better if it wasn't done in my time.

Review 57:Born and raised in the town, the Dukes has always been known to me even though I left 50 years ago. It was a pleasure to stay in the hotel, it has to be the best in the locality, and everything was excellent, let down only, we feel by staff who did not have 5 star training.

Review 58:Kettle didn't work rang receptionist and the lady bought one right up. All in all fantastic.

Review 59:Everything was perfect. Clean everywhere bed was comfy room was just perfect no faults there. Will be staying again 100%

Review 60:The receptionist was rude, asked to pay on departure and she charged me on entrance, leaving me with no money for my stay. There was hair in my bed, a tissue and 20p on the floor so it hadn't been cleaned or hoovered. Ridiculous for a 75 pound room!

Review 61:Parking attendants watching cars just after 8 to give a ticket in the car park hotel should issue special passes for customers.

Review 62:Central location clean and comfortable.

Review 63:I was not given the code to get through the car park barrier, so had to come back into the hotel.

Review 64:Beautiful historic hotel, very clean and comfortable - great location.

Review 65:Room tiny and I didn't mind. What I disliked was overhead lighting over bed. I couldn't read.

Review 66:nice bar and room to order food. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast great.

Review 67:Small room. No information at reception about the locale, venues, theatres or events.

Review 68:Clean, friendly staff, fair amount of free parking, good location for use of the town.

Review 69:Whether it was my fault I am not sure but breakfast was not included in in the booking. On the occasion we did pay for breakfast the staff seem to loiter and made us feel uncomfortable.

Review 70:The location

Review 71:Noisey pipes and little stairs to room was knackered by time pulled case up there.

Review 72:I booked the cheaper room which has shower and is nice. We actually got upgraded which is nice. Think if the rooms are free and used them before u will be more likely to use them again. Room was bigger and had bath I probably wouldn't have paid extra £20 for. Was right up little stairs so not suitable for less able guests and was problem with pipes that far up. After having a shower it made horrible noise every min and kept partner awake. But once I turned Taps on for bit it stopped. I didn't bother moaning bout it. If had paid full price definitely would have. Car park if u can get on it handy if not it a pain. Comfy bed nice toiletries and bar/restaurant. Would stay again

Review 73:Well appointed for Kings Lynn and surrounding areas. Character property with lots of original features. Had little double up in the eaves. Cosy and comfortable but there are 67 steps though so not for the infirm

Review 74:Car park not really big enough, as there was a large Wedding party there when I stayed. Ended up needing to park in public car parks...

Review 75:Welcoming feeling as you enter the building, staff were attentive and polite. Room was clean and well set out, bathroom facilities good. Tea/Coffee available as per usual. Bed was very comfortable, whole room warm without feeling overpowering.

Review 76:The outside of the hotel needs a refurb, the staff on the reception are unwelcoming and on the defensive, the air conditioning outside our window, the ballroom underneath the bedrooms! (there was a wedding with music till 12.00). We booked on-line so we would not have known that the room would be noisy, we could have upgraded to another more expensive room, but we did not think that our stay would have been any better, we were glad to leave in the morning. We chose not to eat here.

Review 77:Being central. The large shower and hot water and reasonable bed.

Review 78:All staff were very helpful and friendly, we couldn't go out far as one member couldn't walk far, so we stayed in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised the food was excellent 10/10 .

Review 79:Had curry but had to ask for Mango Chutney, waitress didn't know what it was! The poppadom was in the curry sauce making it soggy. We asked for a Floater Coffee and had to explain what it was. We were overcharged by £10.05. The waitress could not add the bill up!! The bathroom did not have a shaving socket or good light over the basin. The grout in the floor tiles was missing ( not hygienic)

Review 80:First impressions were good once we had worked out how to get to the front of the hotel from the rear car park. ( No rear access from car park)

Review 81:Not a bad experience, but felt the reception staff not always "on the ball" eg taking calls when people waiting at reception. Shower very low pressure and slow.

Review 82:Great position, breakfast excellent. Breakfast staff and bar staff very helpful, room always cleaned

Review 83:It seems silly that the car park is not accessable at rear of property...we were two ladies who had to trundle our cases all the way to the front entrance...not good !!!

Review 84:Staff were very pleasant and helpful

Review 85:Plenty of room, comfy bed, nice Leather chair, roomy Bathroom and very quite. Shower Gels and shampoos supplied so all I need to bring is a flannel, the towels seem to dry you instantly and are lovely and soft.

Review 86:The only bad part was the male housekeeper disturbing us one morning when we were having a "lie in", but it probably bothered him more than us!

Review 87:There was a slight hiccup checking in because something in the system hadn't confirmed our booking, but they sorted it out for us as quickly as possible and upgraded us to a larger room. The rooms were lovely, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 88:Wedding reception music downstairs in the ballroom was thumping horrible bass sounds until 1AM. We were on the 3rd floor but could still hear the pounding bass. That does not make for a good night's sleep.

Review 89:The location is perfect and they have city centre parking. The staff are wonderful and very welcoming. The room is tiny but we had what we needed.

Review 90:The cold raw kipper served up at breakfast. The luke warm shower at 8.30am on a Sunday. The tattiness of the room and the uncomfortable mattress.

Review 91:The Staff and location

Review 92:No room in car park that's all

Review 93:Lovely place to stay, everything was really nice the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was superb Food was great

Review 94:The hotel is excellent, the staff extremely friendly and helpful and my room a cosy double for one was really comfortable with ample room for myself. The breakfast was to the highest standard.I can,t wait to return here.

Review 95:some staff members were not completely professional- for example we heard people arguing in reception. not a great image of the hotel or for our meeting guests. it took a long time for meeting refreshments to be prepared. also our meeting room wasn't set up on day 2.

Review 96:perfect location in the centre of town for a business trip. the historic meeting room was nice. most of the staff we encountered were very friendly. on site parking was an added bonus.

Review 97:Considering the proximity to pubs sellin real ale, the fact that the bar had only one (and from Cornwall!) was a bit poor.

Review 98:Our room excellent. Breakfast was really good too and the hotel's location right in the middle of Kings Lynn was perfect. The staff were very attentive and everything went very smoothly - even for just the one night.

Review 99:1) Staff were distant and not fully engaged. I'd told them this was a special break to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday, but not a mention of this and no extras. 2) Really appalling continental breakfast: no cold meats; 'selection of continental cheeses' = a bowl of 'Baby Bell' cheeses; no rolls or biscuits to eat them with; stale pastries. 30 and appalling coffee -- or was it tea? impossible to tell.

Review 100:Comfortable room. Convenient car parking. Good (but expensive) cooked breakfast.

Review 101:There was nothing to dislike but the shower head in room 19 needs de scaling.

Review 102:Large comfortable en- suite room, excellent breakfast choice and pleasant staff. A relaxed atmosphere.

Review 103:We were in the back, updated part of the hotel. I could not turn the shower handles once they got wet, very bad design. Breakfast was expensive so we did not eat at the hotel. Limited parking.

Review 104:Great location!

Review 105:A small thing - the same (dull abstract) picture repeating all the way down a corridor - a bit clueless

Review 106:Beautiful location on Market square and grand exterior decor

Review 107:Cost a little high for Kings Lynn

Review 108:The room was excellent (room 5) but the cost was high for the area. The only down side was the late night / early hours noise from the square at chucking out time which was loud enough to wake us up

Review 109:Barman was rubbish, very inexperianced for that class of Hotel, Dining Room and breackfast room were very understaffed.

Review 110:Position of Hotel and the Hotel

Review 111:room was a bit basic no drawer space and very little hanging space for clothes. Also curtains a bit grubby!

Review 112:Staff really friendly and helpful and some rather humorous!

Review 113:The free wifi did not work at all and there was no available parking which meant we had to use the local parking area outside the hotel. This required parking tickets which needed to be paid for at 0800 in the morning to prevent a fine, this was not refunded by the hotel despite not having enough parking available to the customers.

Review 114:Location to town.

Review 115:The rooms at the back of the property had very poor sound insulation so could hear everything from neighbouring rooms. Some of the furniture and fittings had seen better days.

Review 116:Staff were very helpful, location was great - right in heart of historic town.

Review 117:The quilt was badly stained on both beds Towels had holes in Noise was rediculous slamming doors through the night and van deliveris from 6.00am onwards No TV signal early evening till later evening Made a complaint to staff about the disappointment of out stay reception was not even bothered to say the least Also the double bed was really uncomfortable no fan in the bathroom either All in all a complete let down

Review 118:Nice to have a shower in the onsuite

Review 119:Bar area was not cleared up to a suitable frequency. For example there were discarded papers and used cotton buds on one table that remained there for at least 20 minutes.

Review 120:The bedroom was clean and well presented.

Review 121:It was a cold day and night but we were told there could be no heating. We were offered a blanket if we were cold. Why was there no heating? How can any hotel tell its guests that no heating would be available? Ludicrous.

Review 122:The location is very good

Review 123:Parking is limited and some walk from reception. Only 1 Lift and this not convenient for rooms near front of hotel. Wi-fi did not seem to work.

Review 124:Generally reasonable size room with comfortable beds. Central position. Good breakfast.

Review 125:Lift bit noisy at night room next to lift so it would be but overall nice

Review 126:Area is lovely hotel was very nice very comfortable and clean nice decor and carparks at back of hotel overall great stay

Review 127:Having stayed at other places in King's Lynn, we were suprised to have plastic cups in bathroom, surely for the prices charged, better standard of glasses would be appreciated.

Review 128:Central for our needs and grateful that our request for room close to lift ,as my husband has walking difficulties, was granted.

Review 129:We booked this hotel very last minute and should have read previous reviews before booking. When we arrived we were advised that there was a function on at the hotel that would make the room we had been allocated noisy until midnight. We could pay for an upgrade to a quiet room which we did. We were then issued with a room key and directed to our room. The room was almost directly over the function room and incredibly noisy. After trying unsuccessfully to rest we decided to go to the bar for a few drinks and a meal. The barmaid totally ignored us despite being aware that we were waiting so we decided to go out to eat. We complained to the manager about the barmaid who was apologetic. When we spoke to the receptionist about the noisy room it transpired that we had been given the original room in spite of us paying the upgrade fee. The second room we were given was quiet but when we returned to the hotel about 10pm the pub next door to the hotel and below our room window had started to play loud music which did not stop until midnight then we had the associated loud noise from people leaving the pub. I can't believe the receptionist was unaware of the fact that the pub plays loud music at night and didn't warn us or allocate us a genuinely quiet room . We will never use this hotel again and would advise anyone who wants to sleep before midnight not to go there.

Review 130:Bed comfortable. Large clean bathroom

Review 131:Unfortunately the rooms in the back half of the hotel are very warm with no control over the temperature. Outside our room was a pub which seemed to take great pleasure in disposing of all their glass bottles into a metal bin at 7am. Not a pleasent alarm call.

Review 132:Great location nice breakfast

Review 133:Perhaps considering if applicable family rooms to cater for 2 Adults + 2/3 Children.

Review 134:The fact that the manager Reda was very professional and very helpful to the point of actually giving us his parking slot in the car park and carry some of our bags to the reception after we arrived after 23h00. Michael at the reception was very professional and with lots of patience despite having to stay late to check us in, and trying to accommodate our requests. Well done guys! - I don't do reviews often but you definitely deserve by approval. We will be back again.

Review 135:Both bed and floor creaked badly. It was impossible to move around the room quietly, OK during the day but not good at night. Furniture seen much better days. If you want a view from the window request a room at the front of the hotel.

Review 136:Location Breakfast Friendly staff

Review 137:The room was miserable - unfortunately my usual experience as a single traveller. On checking in and learning I was on the fourth floor, I remarked I hoped I wasn't in the box room (again). The reply was: yes, you probably are. When I booked a room on offer, I assumed this was offered in the light of bookings to date. I didn't realise that it implied an inferior room. This was pointed out to me, to their credit, by reception. Room service was not great. Some of the public areas beyond the lounge and dining area are very scruffy. Staff in the front dining room were very friendly and helpful, but there was a long wait for a breakfast table, despite several being available. Need to sharpen up a bit.

Review 138:Excellent chef. Perfect setting - convenience, attractiveness. Individual staff very friendly and cheerful.

Review 139:Price of breakfast. Noise from near by pub saturday night, loud.

Review 140:Nice little room. clean and comfortable. Well decorated. Had all we needed. Staff really helpful and wecoming. Free car park. Free wifi. Great location. Reception decorated well. Reception staff really helpful.

Review 141:The hotel was characterful and comfortable. The food was excellent value and the staff in all departments were cheerful, helpful and efficient. The weather was rubbish!
