Reviews for Dower House Hotel

Review 1:A wonderful hotel in a lovely location. The owners were really friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and everything was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Review 2:I felt perfectly comfortable and happy from the first moment. The bed was exceedingly comfortable. I wanted to take it home with me. The breakfast was lovely and they had a sausage every day for my little dog.

Review 3:This was a beautiful house, excellent accomodation and a fabulous location. We wish we could have stayed longer so we will definitely visit again in the New Year.

Review 4:Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Comfortable bed. Good food cooked to order. Would like to go back in the summer so we could take full advantage of the outdoor area.

Review 5:4pm checkin was a little late but we had a great lunch in Lyme Regis and came back after 4

Review 6:French Lieutenants room was just stunning. The photos don't do it justice

Review 7:Time given to us by the hosts, chatting and showing us around. Nothing too much trouble. It was clear they are dog lovers. They allowed us to have our bulldog in a room that isn't usually accommodated for them.

Review 8:We did not realise the kitchen might not be open for dinner. To have an evening meal elsewhere requires a short drive or a taxi ride. This was not a problem for us but if you definitely want an evening meal do comply with the hotel's request to let them know in advance.

Review 9:Delightful setting, very comfortable room, pleasant bar, made to feel very welcome, delicious breakfast, free car parking.

Review 10:Size of room. Very little room around the bed. Easier with one of us out of the room.

Review 11:Very friendly owners. Excellent dinner. Tea & coffee making facilities provided. . Toiletries and hair dryer supplied.

Review 12:Dower House offered hospitality of the very best kind. It's a small (10 room) family run hotel that's been totally refurbished recently. The room was large and functional, with a fabulous wet room. Breakfast was splendid. Faultless.

Review 13:it missed the section stating that you have to give notice for dinner. perhaps just make that clearer?

Review 14:the furnishing was great. the room was a US hotel sized room. the service was fantastic.

Review 15:We were made to feel very welcome Neil and Rosemarie were very friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was lovely. We had an evening meal as well and that was cooked to perfection and so was the breakfast. This was our first time to the area and we will definitely be going back and hope to stay in this hotel.

Review 16:No comment ! Nothing not too like

Review 17:Fantastic place ! Beautiful surroundings , wonderful proprietors! Really personal touch , Rosemaries tunes at breakfast were Bril, singing in the kitchen

Review 18:We was meet with a very warm welcome which was really nice it help settle our kids in from the off. everything about the place is lovely, we would highly recommend Dower House hotel, we will be back there soon :-)

Review 19:Evening meals not always available - on arrive could not accommodate evening meal needed more notice due to the liking to supply fresh food - a little disappointed but could give them 24 hr notice to cover rest of our stay - however did not take this offer up.

Review 20:Very friendly staff and owners very accommodating. Bed & shower excellent

Review 21:Whilst bed was comfortable it could have been a bit wider...perhaps the next size up.

Review 22:Superb breakfast and great service - local produce was heads above commercial alternatives.

Review 23:Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night but again the owners were so good - checking everything out and then apologising the next morning

Review 24:Lovely place with nice pool and wonderfully friendly owners. Breakfast was great too

Review 25:We requested a twin room from booking.com and the owners had allocated us with a double bed since this was their instruction from booking.com. I am unsure why our request had not been correctly forwarded to the owners but suggest it may be the fault of booking.com. The owners kindly moved us to a glorious family room with a superb bathroom and wonderful view at no extra cost

Review 26:Friendly helpful staff. Lovely room. Spotlessly clean. Delicious breakfast beautifully served.

Review 27:The only thing we didn't like was the rain, but that was beyond our control and we had a swim and a lovely blustery walk at Beer regardless.

Review 28:From the Welcome to the Goodbye, Dower House is a fantastic place to stay. Warm, luscious room with all the facilities you need for a weekend break. We took advantage of the pool despite it being blustery, and cycled the short distance to Lyme Regis for a bit of an explore. Excellently located between Lyme Regis and close to Beer, Dower House makes for a choice place to stay. Excellent! 10/10!

Review 29:Just returned from a one night stay. Our room was lovely, brand new and spotlessly clean, very comfortable and cosy. Breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly. Would recommend to anyone!

Review 30:Only tiny minor point was that the portion of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast was on the smaller side.

Review 31:Neil was so wonderfully welcoming from the word go and our room (the French Lieutenant's Suite) was absolutely stunning - gorgeous interior, spotlessly clean, superbly soft bed and totally luxurious in every way.

Review 32:Internet connection works but slow

Review 33:Staff, building, decor, style, comfort, bathroom, bathrobes, flowers, garden, outdoor seating area, garden, countryside, breakfast,

Review 34:Lack of food choice and were told that guests were expected to eat dinner out. Were prepared to give us evening meal but only one main option. Had to eat in bar from low armchairs as dining room only used for breakfast. Advertised continental breakfast as well as full English but there was no continental breakfast.

Review 35:Staff and location.

Review 36:The room was slightly on the small side although this did not detract from our stay. A little expensive, but could not fault the service, so we would recommend this to friends.

Review 37:Lovely setting between Lyme Regis and Beer. Staff very friendly and helpful. Made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent and room very good. You can certainly see where the owners have spent their money on fixtures and fittings.

Review 38:We had an enjoyable weekend break at the hotel. We had a large, beautifully decorated room overlooking picturesque countryside. The room was exceptionally clean and quiet. We could not hear guests in neighbouring rooms. Neil and Rosemarie are extremely welcoming and friendly owners and made our stay most enjoyable.

Review 39:The Cobb Suite was very nice but couldn't get warm. The floor was really cold to walk on barefoot! Probably much nicer in the summer. The "wet room" meant that water from the shower got everywhere.

Review 40:we were made to feel very welcome. Lovely couple and easy going staff.

Review 41:Nothing about the hotel. It's 3 miles to Lyme Regis which was quite a long walk , and it's hilly, so we were glad to have the car.

Review 42:Good hosts, really friendly , nice touches to make you feel welcome ( Easter eggs on the breakfast table on Easter Sunday!) plenty of space in the bar and sitting room for lounging around although we had good weather so we were out a lot. We stayed in the family (hardy ) room which had lots of space, 2 double beds 2bunks, and a large shower room. Nice bedding. Clean and comfortable. Lovely cooked breakfast with good quality sausages and coffee.

Review 43:Nothing!

Review 44:Had a great time. The view was awesome, bed was incredibly comfortable, staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious! Will definitely stay here again. :)

Review 45:Unfortunately, ceiling speakers in the dining room directly below were turned on at 8am on Sunday morning as staff were preparing breakfast! The owners apologised profusely, & know now for future guests.

Review 46:We got a late booking, & were surprised and delighted that the room was so lovely. Just refurbished, it was comfortable, stylish and spacious.

Review 47:Lovely room with excellent facilities. Great breakfast, well cooked and with a range of choice. The hosts were genuinely warm people who cared about your well being during the stay.

Review 48:Bar prices were a little high but other than that nothing bad to say.

Review 49:Loved the stay have been there before and will definitely go back for another visit.

Review 50:We did feel the rooms although we were upgraded on arrival due to being out of season the hotel was empty.... The room we was given needed a bit of TlC especially the bathroom... Rooms were over priced for this type of hotel.

Review 51:Very attentive. friendly staff. Hotel. Has a very homely feel about it. Good breakfast.

Review 52:Friendly atmosphere, good home clocked food. Close proximity to coast while having countryside views. Both my wife and I would have no hesitation of staying again. Niel and Rosemary couldn't have been more accommodating.

Review 53:The bed was very hard. Why only one chair in a double room - and not one built for comfort either ?

Review 54:The location - especially the sheep and the friendliness of the owners, and the food - very good breakfast

Review 55:nothing

Review 56:I loved everything, you get a lovely warm welcome from Neil and Rosemarie, all of the staff are very friendly, food is excellent, views amazing and the Rioja is awesome :)

Review 57:Electric shower with poor water flow. This is already planned for an upgrade.

Review 58:When we go back to Lyme Regis this will be our first choice of location, Rosemary and Neil are excellent host's and make you feel welcome straight away. The room we had looked over the front drive and was an great size. Talking to Neil he explained a number of the improvements they are planning to make during the close season and this would then improve the only slight issue with the bathroom we had.

Review 59:It is a lovely country hotel with a wonderful welcome from the hosts and a very friendly, laid-back feeling. You instantly feel at ease there in its beautiful country setting. We felt we MUST return some day, but for longer than one night next time!

Review 60:The hotel is very slightly overpriced. £140 per room was a too much to pay in September.

Review 61:The location, size and facilities in room. Friendly and efficient staff.

Review 62:Standard of fittings in the shower. If dinner was required it had to be pre-ordered.

Review 63:Informality, the location, the suite and the selection for breakfast.

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:Attention to details, all the little touches, such as toilet hygiene strips, bottled water free of charge, linen napkins at breakfast. Flowers in the arrival hall. Staff were very friendly and helpful a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Review 66:We were in bedroom 4 and found the bed, a double, slightly small for us.

Review 67:We liked the ambiance, the friendly owners and staff and the excellent breakfast.

Review 68:£145 is steep for a basic b&b. No water pressure in the shower.

Review 69:Lovely location. Good full english breakfast and fresh fruit. Friendly owner/manager.

Review 70:The holiday had to end :(

Review 71:Perfect get away location for a few days or a week! Friendly and professional staff and management. Close to all you need on a break.

Review 73:Television remote had an issue the hosts were unable to resolve during our single night stay.

Review 74:Large clean bathroom. Friendly family hosts. Delicious, hot, full English breakfast was made to order.

Review 75:Bathroom a little tired..but spotless.

Review 76:Excellent hostess and host made you feel like honoured guests. Rooms comfortable and well stocked. View from our room was fabulous. .

Review 77:It would have been nice to have had an information folder in the room telling us about meal times, facilities - such as the swimming pool. Good places to have a meal out locally etc. I appreciate that the hotel has only been recently taken over by new management.

Review 78:The room was lovely, great facilities and good food

Review 79:Informal, friendly and relaxing. In a convenient holiday location. Within a pleasant garden and countryside setting. Easy and accesable parking. Comfortable large bed. Spacious room with pleasant views. Breakfasts were very English which we enjoyed.

Review 80:The price/value equation is stretched somewhat ; would have expected a bigger room for the money.

Review 81:Very friendly and professional staff who couldn't do enough to welcome and look after you.

Review 82:Shower head could do with being bigger. But that's a personal preference. Otherwise all spot on.

Review 83:What a beautiful house, lovely gardens and an added bonus a pool. The rooms are well furnished, bed comfy - tea/coffee facilities. Hot water on demand and lovely fluffy towels. Nice touches were a fresh flower in the room plus water replenished in the room daily. I went to read/chill out after a stressful period. Neil and Rosemary were attentive but not intrusive. They were accommodating and very hospitable. Thanks for a lovely stay and wish you well in your new venture. Lita
