Reviews for Hotel de France
Review 1:All good, nothing to dislike.
Review 2:Staff very friendly, facilities excellent, breakfast very good, room inc wifi was very good. Enjoyed my stay here and will return.
Review 3:Expensive food. Small room, No atmosphere. Boring complimentary tea tray in bedroom. There are other Hotels with more interesting locations and which are trying harder for less money in Jersey.
Review 4:Spa facilities very good. Breakfast excellent.
Review 5:The staff made us so welcome nothing was too much trouble and the facilities are super - everything was so good will have to go back as it was one of those places that you MUST do again
Review 6:No complaints about hotel only Condor ferries having no back up boat as in dry dock.
Review 7:Friendly and helpful staff was looking forward to longer stay. Very helpful when we had to leave early and arrived later than planned because of ferry cancellations.
Review 8:N/A
Review 9:We love staying at the Hotel De France as the hotel is welcoming, friendly, clean, comfortable, luxurious, and the spa treatments and swimming facilties are second to none. We will definitely be returning again and again.
Review 10:Heating in the room was on a timer rather than under control of the guest.
Review 11:Reception staff are amongst the friendliest I've come across - just lovely. Breakfast was excellent and spa area really nice. Room was spotless. Would definitely stay again - great value.
Review 12:I was by myself so I went for dinner I was shown to a table as was a gentleman sat at adjoining table Then we were left people on other tables got drinks bread bun and starter before we even got a menu I stay in lots of hotel this 1 for service is very poor
Review 13:Food and comfort could not fault The breakfast was self service Evening meal was filling and tasty Need to do more see negative
Review 14:The room we had was great, but the bed was to soft and a little uncomfortable. This will not stop me from staying again
Review 15:Superb location, brilliant spa and leisure facilities. Staff all very friendly and helpful
Review 16:I was in one of the smaller rooms in a side extension which was quite cramped, looked onto a flat roof full of services and into several other bedroom windows all 20 feet away. However at about £60 per night it was still great value, I just wish I'd known I was making that choice.
Review 17:Staff were all excellent, public areas very grand and comfortable, parking on site
Review 18:Nothing not to like although there was a distinct lack of drawer space in our room.
Review 19:The hotel ambiance is wonderful. The view from our room, 136, was just beautiful.
Review 20:The cooked breakfast was cold at 7.45 a.m. I live in France and the one thing that I was looking forward to was an English breakfast, I was so disappointed. It was all beautifully cooked but the pans used to keep it warm are inadequate.by the time I had dished up and sat down my breakfast was cold. Had take the bus into town to eat.
Review 21:Nice staff, lovely building, nice room comfortable and clean.
Review 22:Room was a little small although could not fault cleanliness. However...the double bed was EXTREMELY narrow and very short! Also very very creaky and hard - every time one of us moved it creaked! Bed could have been a lot better and not conducive to a good night's sleep.
Review 23:Fantastic leisure facilities. Pool was divine! Friendly staff, good bar.
Review 24:Doors constantly banging, small ill equipped room ( upgrade if you can ). The breakfast room was freezing which didn't help the lukewarm breakfast at all, I prefer quality over quantity where food is concerned.
Review 25:Location, friendly staff
Review 26:Menu in saffron a little limited and expensive .
Review 27:Friendly staff, great gym and spa .. Rooms a little old fashioned in decor but very comfortable and spotless.
Review 28:The bed was very small. The blinds at the window obstructed the view and were not easy to open and keep open
Review 29:The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent.
Review 30:Room and bed was small. The room was not at all sound proof, we could hear the conversations of the people staying next door. Although we were provided with robes, there were no slippers, making it hard to go directly from the room to the spa without dressing/undressing.
Review 31:Large hotel, well located. Friendly, helpful staff and a lovely spa. Sea view.
Review 32:The location of the hotel was up a hill and car hire is preferable when staying here.
Review 33:Everything was excellent within the hotel including the staff and the facilities.
Review 34:No air con in room. This could be a problem during the Summer months - was OK for us visiting in October - we left the room windows open for ventilation. Shuttle bus service needs to run more frequently - hourly from 0800 to 1700.
Review 35:Spa, service and good restaurant
Review 36:The bed was not that comfortable.
Review 37:The swimming pool is long enough to swim in and the sauna was lovely after a day at work. The breakfast had a good choice and range.
Review 38:The only thing a didn't like was the location. The hotel is about 25/30 minutes walk from town centre and there are 49 steps from the main road to the hotel forecourt. There is a hotel shuttle bus to the town centre but if returning after 5 p.m. it's walk or taxi. Local bus service infrequent and unreliable.
Review 39:A large nicely decorated room with very comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Brilliant breakfast. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room. All round a lovely hotel. Excellent value for money.
Review 40:Absolutely nothing to negatively comment on
Review 41:Stayed at this hotel on a few occaisons and again very pleased with my stay. It is a lovely hotel with lovely facilities and helpful staff. I look forward to my next stay.
Review 42:This is very subjective - breakfast location is excellent. The quality and selection at first viewing looks great but....the cooked elements of the buffet were disappointing. Fried eggs were rock hard, scrambled eggs rubbery, bacon over cooked etc. We tried ala cartel omelettes but they were leathery. Which is a shame as the overall score for breakfast would be very high.
Review 43:Beautiful hotel with very friendly and efficient staff. The spa is amazing and many other hotels could learn from Hotel de France and provide highly efficient free wi fit in all areas.
Review 44:Our room was at the rear of the hotel and the views from the windows were not the best, but not everyone can be at the front and we did have one of the less expensive rooms, that said we were not over looked and it didn't spoil the experience at all.
Review 45:A very impressive old period luxurious spacious building in nice quiet grounds away from the town and noise. Excellent facilities with a lovely relaxing pool and sauna area. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The breakfast was extensive and everything was cooked to perfection, the same can also be said for the restaurant. A lovely relaxing stay would defiantly recommend this hotel.
Review 46:My bed and pillow were really hard (I wish that hotels wouldn't always buy hard mattresses). Room service charge has gone up to a steep and unnecessary £5.
Review 47:Fabulous breakfast; wonderful pool. Great to have a good WIFI signal throughout the hotel. Convenient for the centre of town. I will always stay at the Hotel de France when in Jersey!
Review 48:Breakfast not included as standard, thought that was a bit silly at £150 night.
Review 49:Very friendly staff, excellent pool, good restaurant. Its the kind of place that I have no concerns recommending.
Review 50:Disappointed with the accommodation. Single room had a single bed, old mismatched pieces of furniture, tiny room with interconnecting door to the next room, thin walls meant I could hear the person in the other room and the tv which he had on till 1.30am! Disappointed that this did not stand up to 4 star accommodation.
Review 51:The spa and Saffrons restaurant were outstanding. Desk Manager was more approachable and helpful than the reception staff who didn't greet us in the welcoming manner one expects from a 4 star hotel.
Review 52:Great quality but quite sterile and perhaps aimed at the corporate / conference market.
Review 53:Excellent leisure complex. Top notch breakfast. Very helpful staff.
Review 54:Although the hotel was very large it had a very personal feeling about it, the staff were always smiling and everyone acknowledged you. You were made to feel that you were a special guest.
Review 55:Hotel a 10/15 min walk from town which may be difficult for some residents. Also, very steep incline up to hotel which again may make access difficult.
Review 56:Pleasant, clean room, although decor a little old fashioned. Towels changed daily and bedding changed during my 4 night stay. Extremely helpful staff- happy to book trips, print boarding pass and generally give information. Great breakfast.
Review 57:The bed has a rubber undersheet which you should remove if you don't want to wake up in a pool of sweat. The approach to the hotel is a steep walk.
Review 58:The Spa facilities are probably the best on the island. The hotel is well appointed and has a nice sun terrace. There are no children. The staff are very helpful and accommodating.
Review 59:Breakfast Coffee could be improved.
Review 60:Our Spacious quiet Room was in the older part of the Hotel and furnished in 'Country House' style, but with a modern well equipped en- suite Bathroom, an excellent combination. 'The Orangery' served a full English Breakfast and the Garden Room a varied and sensibly priced evening meal.
Review 61:Room was basic, I had not stayed before and thought rooms would be wow, but it was the similar to a premier Inn which is fine but nothing special.
Review 62:Spa facilities are lovely
Review 63:Unfortunately there didn't appear to be any evening entertainment. We stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and this wasn't the case back then. They have changed things slightly.
Review 64:Great facilities, great food & good location.
Review 65:The only thing I didn't like were the pillows. We should have asked for softer ones. Other than that there was nothing to complain about.
Review 66:The hotel facilities were excellent. The pool area superb. Staff were very helpful and very friendly. Would certainly reccomend the hotel to others.
Review 67:I thought the Indian in house restaurant had a very limited choice on the menu but it did smell very nice.
Review 68:Fantastic Spa very helpful advise from the therapists, wonderful staff, nice choice of food and wine in the restaurant and a good choice for breakfast. Room 256 was lovely.
Review 69:it's a steep walk up to the hotel and a little way out of town, although a shuttle bus is available.
Review 70:Spa and pool are excellent as are the restaurants.
Review 71:A bit of a walk into town, especially back uphill. Courtesy needs to run hourly, not now and again.
Review 72:Any complaint that we had was attended too in record time with a smile. The management have obviously worked hard on good customer service and it shows.
Review 73:The staff were excellent in every way and most helpful and in particular Anca. We took advantage of having breakfast and it was again excellent and so was the food in the Restaurant. The Spa facilities were First Class. Would have no hesitation in recommending Hotel de France as a place to stay in Jersey.
Review 74:the bar was comfortable wine was over priced.
Review 75:The friendly staff who were so friendly and extremely helpful. The food was delicious. The Spa was second to none.
Review 76:It was boiling hot i think due to the aging population of guests.
Review 77:The reception Staff were very friendly and helpful. i liked the free WiFi everywhere also. The spa was lovely.
Review 78:bed mattress was adequate but for a 4* hotel could probably do with upgrading
Review 79:pool and spa were top class ! Everything you could ask for at breakfast.
Review 80:The entrance to the hotel was quite steep - maybe it should be advertised more how steep it was as this could affect older guests.
Review 81:The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean & had all the amenities we could have asked for. The bar and outside lounge area were very nice. The hotel is in a good local within walking distance of St Helier and there was a bus stop right outside.
Review 82:Could hear every word of conversation next door, very expensive going through booking.com with no breakfast rate of £128 without is absurd. Pillows not acceptable. Bed lumpy. V small window, opening only two inches. No herbal tea, or proper coffee. Staff in garden restaurant tried to charge for 4 Americans, over £8 when I'd ordered a 'nice white coffee and a black one'. Too expensive overall, not enough staff overall. When I spent time there in 2010 it was much much better. I guess it depends on the room you get, and how light it is in the rooms. No conditioner or bath oil/bubble bath.
Review 83:Spa and gardens
Review 84:The welcoming and politeness from the staff made the stay enjoyable. The courtesy fruit and bottle of bubbly were a surprise and the flowers provided were the colour ruby matching our anniversary. Thanks.
Review 85:The sheer mountain-face type approach to reach the entrance. Fine if you have a car but if you are an angina sufferer as I am its a killer. Also, in-house food prices are high, particularly Saffrons.
Review 86:Friendly, proffesional, helpful, free parking, comfortable
Review 87:The pillows were too hard our first night, but the hotel was happy to change them for us.
Review 88:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We came for our anniversary and were surprised with complimentary upgrade and champagne, fruit and flowers. The spa was amazing and breakfast was plentiful. I've been raving about our stay to all my friends and hope to come back some day soon.
Review 89:Very hard pillows.
Review 90:Lovely hotel, the staff were helpful and polite. Food excellent in the terrace restaurant. Spa treatment lovely, if a little expensive.
Review 91:This is an amazing hotel, there is nothing to fault from the welcome at reception to the food in the restaurants and the fantastic spa where my husband and I enjoyed possibly the best massage ive ever had. If it's 5 * luxury you want this definately ticks all the boxes
Review 92:Coffee too strong at times. Guest day fee too expensive in the hotel gym/pool.
Review 93:Large room. Very clean. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Breakfast staff were excellent.
Review 94:Had a large lunch one day so decided to have a light dinner. Bad choice in our opinion. My glass of white wine came warmer than me. My Tuscan Bean stew with chorizo came with slices of smoked pork sausage in it as well. Odd, while my wife could not find the dressing in her Caesar salad until well into it. Then decided she wished she hadn't!
Review 95:Room was excellent as was the leisure centre (too often these pools are "shoehorned in".) Not here. Spacious and fab. Breakfast was superb. Staff were very friendly and so helpful. Will definitely stay here again.
Review 96:The reception level (-0) has no public toilets since the spa area was added. More toilets near reception should be provided. Car park spaces are too small for modern cars. More disabled spaces are needed with better markings.
Review 97:Location, excellent staff, very good restaurants. Generally a very good place to stay.
Review 98:I thought the breakfast and restaurant choices were limited and repeated. Ie afternoon tea used half of the breakfast options. Jersey promotes local produce and I doubt much of the breakfast options were local. The hotel rooms need modernising.
Review 99:The spa was beautiful.
Review 100:First room we had was too small and near a lift so noisy and the bed was uncomfortable.
Review 101:The staff were excellent especially on the reception desk they moved us to a quite room after 2 nights.
Review 102:Our room was not ready by check-in time.
Review 103:Restaurant / bar service was good, meals well cooked and enjoyable. Our room was spacious and we had a great balcony view.
Review 104:The staff were amazingly polite and friendly. The Saffron Indian Restaurant was fabulous. The Spa hotel rooms with balcony are worth the extra for a spacious well equipped room. The Spa and pool facilities were outstanding.
Review 105:Excellent facilities and staff so friendly and helpful. Superb dinner at saffron I left luggage there early in the morning and upon my return found it had been delivered to my room, fabulous. Fantastic pool facility.
Review 106:The hotel was in the perfect location for touring the island and there was plenty of free parking. Our room was clean, spacious and well equipped and the breakfast buffet and Garden View restaurant served excellent food. The staff were not only friendly but knowledgeable and caring. They often went the extra mile to be helpful and informative. The gym and pool facilities which I used regularly were of a very high standard.
Review 107:Hotel cold, restaurant very cold, chairs in very poor condition underneath. I damaged my dress on the Velcro. We reported this problem last year as the same thing happened but just the same this year The warmest place in the hotel was the lifts.......
Review 108:The only thing was it took a while to work out the best way to the hotel on approach from East and West. We found out in the end you have to go up to the left of the town and up and around as it is high up behind the town and because of one ways you cannot get there by car directly through the town.
Review 109:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. Our rooms were clean and tidy and we loved the pool.
Review 110:Our room had great views over St Helier and was spacious and very comfortable. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we delighted to find wine and fruit waiting for us in our room.
Review 111:I've had breakfast here before, but at £12 a head for the buffet, I think it's overpriced.
Review 112:Great location if you're driving, with free parking. Excellent Wifi and great view of the town from the front rooms.
Review 113:The only thing I would like to say is that the shuttle travel service from the hotel to Liberation Square & back, could do with being a little bit more frequent. But this is technically not a dislike on my part. Just a suggestion.
Review 114:All staff were so helpful. I would like to commend the young lad named Elliot. I didn't have any change late evening to buy a tin of Coke Cola. He paid for it himself & I paid him back in the morning. That is service beyond his duties. Well done Elliot.
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:Everything in the hotel was great, from the fantastic view out my window to the helpful and polite staff. The room was lovely and the breakfast was fantastic. I had a brilliant stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Review 117:The location is a bit far out, up quite a few hills, so I'd be wary of this if you find it a struggle to walk. Saffrons has a dress code; if you're not in to that thing, then reconcile yourself to the fact that you won't be eating at a quality restaurant.
Review 118:The staff were very friendly, and the two restaurants (particularly Indian Fusion 'Saffrons') were excellent. The pool and spa were magnificent.
Review 119:Because of flight delay arrived as all the facilities were closing for the day. Not the hotels fault but very frustrating.
Review 120:After travelling the bed was very comfortable.
Review 121:The courtesy bus could run more often down to the town and back. This is not really something I didn't like just an observation if you were less mobile than me.
Review 122:Everything. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast - very good with a variety of choice.
Review 123:Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Spartan looking bedrooms in spa wing
Review 124:Excellent spa, wonderful massage. Good selection at breakfast, reasonable prices and good quality food in the Garden Terrace restaurant
Review 125:The plastic undersheet on the bed made me hot and uncomfortable in bed. Bedroom air conditioning was a portable unit so the window had to be open if it was on.
Review 126:Very nice hotel but a little too far away from the town center. A shuttle service was provided (but it isn't available after 2 pm.)
Review 127:Hotel De France is a very good value for money. Location is quite good, just 15 minutes walking distance from the downtown. Very clean, good breakfast, nice garden and a great swimming pool and sauna/steam room. Good fresh bathroom with all toiletries provided. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Andreea at the reception was very nice. She was very helpful.
Review 128:The shower lacked a lot of power. Also some rooms had fans in for hot conditions and some didn't, not sure why not all rooms had this?
Review 129:The staff were so friendly from start to end, nothing was too much for them. Also the pool/spa facilities were brilliant!
Review 130:Although a shuttle bus was available, the walk up and down to the hotel was quite steep.
Review 131:The hotel was in an elevated quiet position in St Helier. Staff very friendly and helpful, two excellent restaurants, and very good breakfast choice. Free use of the spa, and beautiful gardens and a terrace for drinks. Large confortable bedroom and bathroom. Bus to town and Durrell right outside the hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel, and would definitely return.
Review 132:Bit of a steep slope to get up to the hotel from the road. Beer is expensive in the lounge bar!
Review 133:Spa and pool were very nice and breakfast was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 134:Having seen the advert on TV I thought it looked like a nice place to stay! But I was wrong the room was old and dirty, the white towels had brown marks over them, there was a massive fan system just outside the window which kept us awake and there was no curtains just black out blinds which did not work as the light came through all sides which meant being woken up at 6am with sunlight!!
Review 135:Friendly staff!
Review 136:Bathroom in particular needs refurbishment, poor shower, old fittings. Totally unacceptable for a hotel to have a top class gym facility and then make it unavailable to hotel guests - this is the first time I've ever seen this.
Review 137:Nice loft room, elegant building, good service, really good spa and pool.
Review 138:The car park and buildings in front of the hotel are ugly, and should be covered in a" Living Wall", to be more aesthetically pleasing, but the facade of the hotel was lovely.
Review 139:Health Spa, roof terrace,
