Reviews for Golden Beach
Review 1:More info available at my dangeratgoldenbeach tumblr blog. Must-see pictures as well.We wanted to check out 10 minutes after seeing our room at the Golden Beach Hotel but given our situation we had little choice but to accept it and hope for an upgrade/change the next day.The room was dark and smelled very badly - a strong, horrible musty smell. The hotel administrator said it was due to the humidity but it was clear the room had not been aired out or ventilated in a long time. There was algae/mold growing extensively under the sink in the bathroom which contributed to the smell. Everything in the room smelled - the curtains, the beds, the bathroom and closets especially …. The hotel did try and fix the problem by spraying air freshener around and cleaning the mold away, but the smell persisted (and who likes to smell mildew/algae masked by strong air freshener all night). We all woke up with headaches the next day. We resolved to leave but the hotel begged us to stay saying another room would be available the next day.The room was poorly maintained. Balcony door almost impossible to open. Most importantly a number of the electric sockets were coming out of the walls which was a real danger to the children. After a couple of near misses we forbade them from touching them. One of our kids was in fact nastily shocked at another hotel on another island with this same problem.Breakfast was abysmal. Weak coffee. Weak juice flavored drink. Nothing fresh. Fruit from a can (in Greece????). Dry bread (probably from the day before). We were not allowed to plug in devices into power sockets in the room. There were signs all over the place to this effect. This meant no iPad, no mobile phones, etc. This was ironic since they offered Wifi (which proved very intermittent and only available in the lobby). The pool was cloudy, dirty and uninviting. We saw very few people ever in it (and those were children, unfortunately).
Review 2:The only redeeming feature of this hotel is its location - close to Koukounaries (and other) beaches. But given theres a frequent bus from Skiathos town center stopping 25 times on the way to Koukounaries, theres really no need to endure this hotel in order to stay 10 mins from this (vastly overrated) beach. Horrible for families. And if you are a backpacker or similar (as I was on my first 3-4 trips to Greece) and can put up with the bad stuff above, its far too expensive. Avoid this place.
Review 3:Antique facilities, very poor cleaning services.
Review 4:Closiness to beaches and quiest surrundings.
