Reviews for Rectory Farm

Review 1:Our room in the annexe was very nice apart from very low beams in bathroom which we were not advised about. Bath towels were quite small and little thin.

Review 2:Location and setting of accommodation are very attractive. Flexibility over taking breakfast having booked room only at a great price.

Review 3:Nothing to dislike.

Review 4:The house and gardens. Very conveniently located for the M11 and driving in to the city centre or using the Madingly Road Park and Ride. The staff were friendly and helpful. We'd certainly hope to stay here again, especially on the garden side.

Review 5:A little difficult to find on a dark and rainy night as set back from a fast main road.

Review 6:Quiet and comfortable and close to Cambridge. Breakfast was also very good.

Review 7:We arrived at 3pm check in time and were told the rooms weren't ready yet and that we couldn't wait in the main part of the building because the roof was being done even though the staff were happy for us to go in when the rooms were ready and breakfast would be served in there. So we had to sit and wait in the car. There was a dodgy stain on the bed runner in the room and the shower head didn't stay up and you couldn't take it off to hold so showered and washed hair with one hand. When advising the owner I received a reduced bill only because I asked

Review 8:It was quiet

Review 9:Outwardly rude staff combined with building works which finished at night and began at 6a.m. the following morning. When we tried to speak to the manager, we were first ignored and then berated for having brought up the issue of the noise overhead. Although its location is helpful I would still recommend staying in town as the parking is not difficult and you're more likely to have a pleasant experience

Review 10:Not easy to find in the dark but obvious in daylight!!.

Review 11:Convenient to where we were visiting and the communal areas in the chalet building were good.Nice grounds and convenue parking.

Review 12:Odd room with locked door separating you from onsuite, but no lock stopping the joining room using your bathroom! Due to it being converted from a large two bed apartment into 2 rooms

Review 13:Great staff and a fantastic looking location

Review 14:no central heating in the room. Shower screen does not fit and water spilled on to the floor. No extraction in the bathroom apart from the window right at by the bath.

Review 15:Nice surrounding

Review 16:I haven't spent so much time there, but I couldn't really figure out anything inappropriate.

Review 17:It was really lovely. The bed was EXTREMELY confortable, the bathroom was better then a sheraton, the landscape was mesmerizing :) There's also tee in your room with a boiler. loviiiing <3

Review 18:Receptionist rather unfriendly to begin with, perhaps fed up with building work on top floor, taking longer!?

Review 19:Quiet, comfortable, location ... Beautiful grounds, even on a rainy grey day

Review 20:The quality of the premise. Amazing breakfast if you have time the continental choice is superb with an amazing selection particularly of fruits, lovely log fire in the large dining room.

Review 21:Breakfast is not included and a bit expensive (£10 for continental and £12 for English) but the continental buffet is good quality and well presented. The English breakfast is quite standard and lacking quantity for £12. When staying in the chalet, bear in mind you have to walk outside to go for breakfast.

Review 22:We stayed in a room in the chalet, an annex of the main house, in a small but cosy and comfortable room. The breakfast room is lovely, with a fireplace in the winter. Good location, 15 mins away by car from Cambridge.

Review 23:The house was having roofing works when we arrived so not quite the picturesque brochure photo but I am sure it will be complete soon enough. Check in was not until after 16:00 which was a little annoying. The breakfast was between 08:00 and 09:00am which for a Sunday morning is way too early for me and my Fiance we passed on this and headed back into Cambridge to have breakfast at "Bills" which was excellent and a similar price.

Review 24:Rectory Farm was very easy to find being literally just off the M11 junction. The gated drive is a nice touch. The main house is very plush in it decoration. The Chalet where our suite was situated is very nice and clean. We had ample parking available and the check in and out was very simple. The suite was huge and in very good condition with a lovely double shower. Plenty of hot water. A TV in the living room and Bedroom. We made use of the Park and Ride which cost £6.40 for the pair of us for 18 hours, this was a short walk from the hotel but the weather was inclement so we parked the car there during the day. We used Taxi's on the Saturday night coming in at £8.80 to get to kings parade in central Cambridge. I would definitely stay at Rectory Farm again given the experience we had.

Review 25:Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely ambience and very relaxing place to stay. A lounge in a hotel is now quite rare but the one here was very good, comfortable and well equipped.

Review 26:The property is caught between mostly warm B&B and slight boarding house ambiance with notices telling guests what they must not do (eating in room, for instance). If you order a cooked breakfast but stray over a not very clear line with the continental breakfast buffet, you could be charged for both. These things could be changed easily. There is some noise from the M11 but it was faint inside.

Review 27:Lovely property in a garden setting, room very comfortable. Public rooms attractive and nicely decorated for the holidays. Swimming pool in the grounds (not used mid-Dec!)

Review 28:Mattress on beds 2 single had no support really need replacing. Plenty of staff but slow to serve breakfast. Arrived at 3pm to more or less have the door shut in our face and told to come back later. When returned later reception check in staff was abrupt and wanted payment straight away.no frendliness. I have stayed here 3 times before and always paid on leaving.

Review 29:Variety of type of bread could be more extensive. Butter could be removed from fridge earlier and home made jam would be preferred rather than commercial type.

Review 30:We liked the decor and furnishings and the environment Lovely coffee. Full English breakfast good. Room clean and tidy and wonderful views. The owner was warm and welcoming in the breakfast room.

Review 31:Breakfast seemed too expensive and instead I chose every morning to eat in my Company's staff restaurant.

Review 32:Location, location, location. easy access into North Cambridge and through to the Science Park where I needed to get to. Room comfortable and deep bath with lots of hot water ideal for easing aching backs - if of course you have one, as I do !

Review 33:30 minutes from Stansted airport and 15 minutes from Cambridge City centre. House in beautiful grounds and the 'suite' in which we stayed was very comfortable.

Review 34:Our suite was very large and in need of some refurbishment which we understand will be happening soon

Review 35:Excellent staff customer service exceptionally clean.

Review 36:Bedside lamps didn't work, Room was too hot but this was solved easily with a large opening window. Internet was a bit erratic

Review 37:Vary comfortable beds and ]well appointed

Review 38:Upgraded to main house repairing roof till 7pm Sunday night wasn't informed radiator broken and shower head in bathroom

Review 39:Room was good and location most of the staff were helpful

Review 40:None.

Review 41:Lovely welcome, even though the receptionist was busy, she still took time to show us all round the property and the public rooms, before showing us to our room. Room in the Chalet was quite small, but had everything required for a comfortable stay. Very quiet location, but only 2 minutes to the park & ride.

Review 42:£10 for a continental breakfast?! For guests arriving by foot it would be useful to have a footpath or a pedestrian crossing to help survive the busy road outside the gate.

Review 43:Really cosy DVD players and DVDs clean quiet nice staff bed was so comfortable peaceful location

Review 44:Room very compact so not enough room to open case without putting it on the bed. Didn't opt for breakfast as felt it was expensive addition. (We found the park and ride nearby to be unreliable although this is obviously out of the control of RF, and pedestrian access from the road was precarious)

Review 45:Location ideal for us as enjoyed the half hour walk to town and shorter walk to Churchill. Very clean. Tea and coffee facility in room.

Review 46:Terrible sense of service, the workers don't stop renewing the roof while we r still in the room in the morning(or the manager doesn't want them to stop after we told them to), they just can't wait till 10:00 am when we check out to start their work? Very noisy, and the old lady at reception does NOT want to fix this issue at all after we repeatedly asked. Terrible experience.

Review 47:Rate, room space.

Review 48:Spiders and dust in the room . Not Beeing able to close the toilet door and not Beeing allowed to use the kitchen in the suite . Not allowed to eat in the room. Very expensive !

Review 49:The locations are really beautiful

Review 50:I would have prefeered to have an evening meal at the Hotel rather than going out. Please see my other note regarding food.

Review 51:The location and building are both lovely. I stayed in the out building which was very clean, warm and very inviting. We had to leave the premises to go out for dinner, the recomended Pub the plough was superb and I can give it my highest recomendation.

Review 52:Just a bit far out of the town although the park and ride is close by,perhaps a timetable for it would be useful. Taxis into and back from town were around £10 -£12

Review 53:Wonderfully comfortable beds and pillows, shower too was great. The grounds are beautiful and so peaceful.

Review 54:there was no clear indication anywhere that you would actually be in a SHARED!!!! suite. The lock to your own suite was on the inner door, but to go to toilet you would have to make sure you take your keys as i can imagine it being very easy to get locked out. Also your wardrobe is in an open area and not behind a locked room. Only breakfast was available and no other food means, they also state you weren't allowed your own food in your room. forcing you to have to eat to eat out somewhere. And as its in the middle of nowhere it isn't easy

Review 55:the price

Review 56:Stayed in the chalet and the ceiling was low on one side so you had to be careful not to bang your head!

Review 57:The grounds and furnishings were lovely. Bathroom immaculate and shower super. Staff very friendly.

Review 58:I expected better to be honest. There was nothing which particularly excelled. My partner found the bed uncomfortable, the check in time was extraordinarily late, and the check out time was draconian, with the cleaner banging on the door at dead on 10am making us feel like criminals. Breakfast was ordered at £10; was not explained that this was continental, and £22 for a choice of both is ridiculous. Real shame as the place looks fantastic.

Review 59:Staff were pleasant and it was a functional hotel. The drive up to the hotel was impressive. Nice shower.

Review 60:There was an odour in the room, worse near the radiator. Told the staff. Bit like stale fish and chips.

Review 61:Very comfy bed. Spacious room. Quiet. Slept well.

Review 62:The lodge was damp, dirty, cracks in the walls, paint peeling off the walls, flies in the bathroom and windows that didn't shut properly. This property should not be rented out!

Review 63:Nothing!

Review 64:Adding the cooked breakfast for a total of 22 GBP is a very expensive meal. (The continental is a feast on its own.)

Review 65:A beautiful property with great value-for-money rooms, English charm and gorgeous gardens. Fantastic accessibility to Cambridge without Cambridge prices. You'll fall in love as the gates open and you drive up the tree-lined regal drive. The self-catering apartments are superb for a longer stay. The continental breakfast is varied and very tasty, with several protein options.

Review 66:The bath towels were tiny. The breakfast portions werevery generous but I prefer quality over quantity.

Review 67:Rectory Farm was located very close to the town. The house is lovely as are the grounds. We will come back and look forward to using the swimming pool, weather allowing. We appreciated having the use of a very comfortable sitting room together with an honesty bar. Cosy and welcoming.

Review 68:The breakfast pricing structure. £10 continental or £12 cooked OR if you took fruit before scrambled eggs on toast it is £22! Ridiculous the continental one if you are gluten and dairy allergic is boiled egg and fruit. Not great. The suite has a kitchen area but no sockets or fridge turned on. Apparently not in use. No reason given and a real shame for the odd snack especially if staying for a few days.

Review 69:Big spacious suite

Review 70:The mattress in the double bed was way too soft. If two people lie on the bed a depression forms in the middle pulling both people towards the middle. We stayed at the chalet building; the entrance door was a glass wall and door leaving about 1/4 of an inch gap when closed. Truly tremendous waste of energy to heat the building with such an entrance (single glazed glass and no use of rubber to seal when closed). Not surprisingly one step beyond this door two heaters were full on although the weather was mild.

Review 71:Very cosy atmosphere, excelllent location, good breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 72:Shower head would not stay level on sliding rail.

Review 73:Staff very helpfull. Very good continental breakfast. Log fire in Breakfast room was lit for breakfast time. Driveway to hotel very welcoming. Pleasant grounds.

Review 74:A beautiful house with gorgeous surrounds and a very good location for Cambs Park & Ride, will def be coming back when on our next stay over to Cambridge - can't wait

Review 75:The honesty bar was a lovely touch but this is in the main house and so a short walk if you are in a room in the annexe building.

Review 76:Well located, very charming. Good value for money and staff very helpful and welcoming. Bathrooms smart and modern and rooms cosy and very clean.

Review 77:The low roof joist in the middle of the bathroom (Room 12c): anyone much over 5ft 5inches would definitely have had a problem. The bathroom mirror light wouldn't come on which meant I was illuminated by a strong spotlight only which, for a lady is impossible to see to apply make up etc. So I used only the mirror in the room which was fine. Also the door handle to the bathroom was an unusually hard turn to an equally unusual left (counter clockwise) and I was unable to turn and open it without doing it two handed. And it would have been nice to be given some biscuits to go with the tea making facilities.... it seemed odd not to. Aside from this - all wonderful!

Review 78:Room beautiful, nice decor and views, staff very helpful, comfy bed, great telly reception and location, wonderful toiletries provided and very handy little emergency kit was much appreciated! I liked it all and would definitely recommend it and stay again. I really liked that it was foolproof to find and so terribly close to the M11 junction as well... and the gates were easy to use. All lovely. Very close direct drive for the city and outlying colleges. A beautiful gracious hotel experience.

Review 79:Arrived 20 minutes earlier than book in time not a friendly welcome. Sat in car and waited till 4.00 pm. Then greeted differently. Wife's dietary requirements had not been received, although I had email confirmation from booking.com and not dealt with very well.

Review 80:A good property in the right location for our visit.

Review 81:the total lack of food in or around the hotel outside the hours of 8am to 9am. If you've travelled a long way and arrive late or without a car (as I did in this occasion) that's a real problem. It turns what's potentially a great place to stay into a real disaster

Review 82:Great place, nice location

Review 83:There were quite a few spider webs and toiletries were in short supply (no hand soap and only one plastic cup in the en-suite). Also some of the meats and cheeses in the continental breakfast was a bit bland.

Review 84:The location was good with only a slight noise from the motorway

Review 85:Pleasant quiet location, and good to be in homely situation. a little lacking in facilities, maybe a more user friendly lounge or a small bar rather than an 'honesty' bar.

Review 86:Very convenient for Cambridge city centre and on some good bus routes. The room was cosy, clean and comfortable and the hotel was great value for money. The continental breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely stay again when next in Cambridge.

Review 87:Friendliness and efficiency of staff, especially receptionist. Cleanliness of room and premises in general. Comfort of bed and facilities within room were also very good.

Review 88:Parking was a bit difficult, as the place seemed to be full and the key to our door was very hard to move to open the door.

Review 89:Location and ambience. Continental breakfast good and plentiful.

Review 90:We arrived twenty minutes early, along with another couple, and were rudely told we would have to wait until 4pm to get our room. Breakfast was appalling.

Review 91:Nice room.

Review 92:The fitted kitchen in the suite which was not connected for use - what is the point of it being there? The bed settees did not match the room and needed more cushions.

Review 93:The gardens, dining room and entrance to the suites. The bedroom and bathroom in the suite.

Review 94:Mouse poo on and around the sofa bed. Doors locked with no keys so only one fire escape exit. Cracks in the walls so bad you could see daylight through. Half a toilet roll between 6 people. £10 per person extra for breakfast.

Review 95:The sheets were clean. Nice area.

Review 96:Poor customer service - very unfriendly host (female) who refused to help us with our request to get changed ready for my daughter's graduation ceremony because we arrived at 12.30pm & check in is not until 4pm. We asked if we could just use the hotel restrooms but the front door was shut in our face! Eventually, another host (male) allowed us to use a small, cold & cramped outside toilet. Not a good start to our day. Suite - we booked two of these to have use of the separate kitchen and sitting room (the plan was to have a pre-ceremony get together - didn't happen as we couldn't check in until we got back from the ceremony at 10pm). Even so, the kitchen area could not be used (power turned off). The decor & furniture in both our suites in need of dating.

Review 97:Our rooms were in a separate block to the main building and quite quiet. The gardens looked impressive (although we did not get to enjoy them (we checked in at 10pm and had to vacate by 10am the next morning).

Review 98:Size of room. Bathroom door was too close to the bed.

Review 99:The setting and privacy. Location to the Park and Ride. Warm, cosy room with comfortable bed and good shower.

Review 100:Truly beautiful country house in a superb country setting yet only 1/2 mile away from the park and ride. The room (well, it was a huge suite) was excellent. The breakfast was varied and excellent quality. Charming and helpful staff.

Review 101:The service is horrible. The breakfast offers were particularly tricky to understand. The hotel singled out continental breakfast as a special service, we were fooled to believe that English breakfast was free. We were not the only one, two other couples were fooled to order barely edible breakfast at the price of 20 pounds per person. The hotel managers of African origin were arrogant and impolite in explaining the breakfast confusion. Her indifferent tone made me feel I was staying in a Chinese state-owned hostel back in 1990s. My advice: Avoid if you can.

Review 102:The location is good. About 10 pounds if you take taxi from city center

Review 103:Maybe the breakfast price could be slightly altered. The food was fantastic but there were two prices - maybe there could be a slight merger. It was fine for me but I heard other clients discussing whether they could eat cereal and hot food etc.

Review 104:Lovely room - quiet - slept really well - lovely breakfast

Review 105:It is a pity there isn't a restaurant although that won't put me off staying in the future.

Review 106:Location was ideal and quiet. Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

Review 107:Very convenient location for access to Cambridge centre via Madingley "park and ride". Close to motorway and A14 for access to surrounding areas. Set in middle of fields and with attractive gardens around the building. Friendly and efficient staff. Access to rooms at all times.

Review 108:Think breakfast should be included in the rate..a bit cheeky as an added extra!

Review 109:Location was lovely overlooking fields..took a taxi into Cambridge..probably a 10-15 minute walk into town which on a nice day would be lovely.

Review 110:It's a lovely setting to stay surrounded by fields, but just a few minutes' walk from the Park and Ride bus into central Cambridge. The suite was spacious and very comfortable.

Review 111:Because they thought it would be better, hotel changed our rooms with one week's notice due to a wedding although we booked long before that. Needless to say car parking a nightmare. Some had to park in a damp field. Staff could not find our booking on arrival. Asked to pay double for breakfast when already paid. No apology that they got it wrong but "I must have misheard". Language barrier more the problem with not fluent English speaking staff.

Review 112:It closed - yes actually closed - at 11pm and there are no night porters. It is really a very nice Bed and Breakfast, but it has no facilities apart from bed and breakfast. It is essentially a bedroom and a breakfast room, but the price is a hotel price. Breakfast was pretty ordinary and cost an extra £10.

Review 113:it is a nice comfortable house. Most of the other guests seemed to be retirees and they seemed to like it.

Review 114:Abrupt staff when we arrived early. Striclly enforced 4pm arrival time. No lee way!!!!!! Travelled 4 hours to get there and had to wait another hour to check in. Not happy! Tired mish mash of furniture in our lounge. Looked like it was all the furniture left over and used.

Review 115:Good bed.

Review 116:Excellent staff, beautiful room and surroundings. Everything worked like clockwork. A well run hotel in a great location. We would certainly visit again.

Review 117:The door lock was broken. It was repaired the next day, but not a good start. The bed was very uncomfortable - old lumpy mattress.

Review 118:Tranquil, peaceful location within easy access of Cambridge

Review 119:Room in the annexe is small and continental breakfast @£10 is a little expensive. The front door was locked at check in leaving us waiting for a member of staff to turn up. Hardly welcoming!

Review 120:The location is great.

Review 121:old and color fading carpet, scratched and fallen wall paper, dusty smell of the room and terrible shower. This lodge facility is too old to be rented out. It is disgusting and far from the letting standard. Please be aware, never stay their lodge at this condition!

Review 122:The space of the lodge

Review 123:Could have a better sign posting. on BOTH sides of the entrance. Bedroom rather small

Review 124:Good position for Cambridge. Gracious living experience Breakfast very good. Bedroom and en suite very clean

Review 125:Cramped bedroom(13a) with low beam. Breakfast cost extra and only available 8-9 o'clock. Tea/coffee facilities insufficient for 24hours

Review 126:Comfortable bed. Breakfast room overlooking large garden. Rural setting but only 10 minutes from Cambridge

Review 127:The internet connection was almost non-existent in my room which, as a business-traveller, was frustrating.

Review 128:Rectory Farm is a stunning place to stay (the buildings and the grounds). It's really well located too; it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but it's right next to the major roads. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 129:We were given the very large room with lovely views of the garden. Free parking was great as it was very expensive to park in the city. Shame no evening meal available

Review 130:The room did not lock properly and was unsecure We were given a room in a shared appartment, the other guests complained to us about it as if it was our doing The building in the web site is not where you actually stay WiFi was unavaialble Overpowering smell of damp as ventilation inadequate 35 minutes in rush hour traffic to get to from town Charging £10 for breakfast and £20 if you had cereal and a cooked breakfast is outrageous

Review 131:Rooms at short notice

Review 132:Very small room and being packed off from the hotel prior to arriving at the 4pm check in time. Not being told that our key would let us into the main house. Not being allowed food in the bedrooms. 8-9am a very small window for breakfast on a Sunday.

Review 133:Comfortable beds and beautiful grounds. Spotlessly clean room. Excellent value for Cambridge. The gated property.

Review 134:Breakfast starts from 8am which is too late for me when on business so as to avoid city traffic jams. Staff offered 7.40am as exception but prefer from say 7am.

Review 135:Lovely rooms and building, beautiful setting in green fields but near to Cambridge centre - very comfortable
