Reviews for Fernhill Hotel

Review 1:rather expensive for a three star . food very good but not for big eaters

Review 2:staff very good, helpful willing to help for what we asked of them. helped us with places to see and do.

Review 3:We came to Lyme Regis for a short 2 night stay. Unfortunately one of the two twin beds was very hard and uncomfortable (one had a topper, the oth did not). Around midnight on the first night we were woken by the visitor in the next room taking a spa bath lasting about three quarters of an hour. The sound of the motors was so loud, sleep was impossible and it was hard to get back to sleep afterwards. We usually book luxury rooms for our hotel stays. This 'luxury' room was not of the same standard and probably cost more. Breakfasts were good and staff excellent but overall not worth the money.

Review 4:Can't say a bad word, every thing was perfect.well done fernhill, thanks for everything.

Review 5:Excellent choice of food.Fantastic staff.Comfortable room & bed.quiet location.

Review 6:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 7:The service from the staff was very good, and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The hotel, which was very smart and clean, was in a good quiet position but near to Lyme Regis. The food was excellent, I require a gluten free diet and found that the hotel catered for many food allergies. The outside seating areas had lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the heated pool was enjoyed by residents.

Review 8:Stayed in may and had a twin room that was excellent. Plenty of space and a very big bathroom. Last week we had a double room which was extremely dark and dingey and a shower that was so small you could hardly turn round. No where to put toiletries etc. Very claustrophobic. I would not want this room again.

Review 9:Breakfast and dinners were excellent. Could not fault amazing chef

Review 10:Had an allergic reaction after using the small bar of soap in bathroom - but this went the next day so no damage done. Thought that parts of the hotel needed tidying/renovating, i.e. the mini-golf area which was very messy and some of the patio area paving (view from breakfast room) was breaking up (some holes in this which could possibly cause accidents). Secondly the bar/grille area seemed more like a café and I thought this needed to be made more inviting as from what I saw most visitors seemed to have their evening meals there so why could not visitors have their bar meals served up in either the breakfast area or the dining rooms, the latter being practically empty on the nights of my stay? I am in no way denigrating your hotel as it was nice and comfortable and as mentioned staff were excellent but you have asked for comments and I like to be truthful in surveys.

Review 11:Staff were great - helpful and cheerful at all times - nothing was too much trouble.

Review 12:Advertised as having spa facilities but was unable to book massage, even with a weeks notice. hotel was not very clean, area around the pool very poor and overgrown weeds everywhere. Basic breakfast with cheap spread for toast etc

Review 13:Location

Review 14:Dining room decor was a bit OTT so felt a bit unreal, as if dining on a film set. But that might be an attraction for some!

Review 15:Relaxing and friendly atmosphere in which it was easy to pamper yourself! Staff were very attentive to your needs but also knew when to give you space. Lovely little outdoor swimming pool.

Review 16:Wifi didn't stretch as far as the bedroom but we didn't complain as it kept the kids of the electronics!

Review 17:Quiet location and a room that sleeps 5 (or more!). Fabulous breakfast, helpful, friendly staff - it was exactly what we needed.

Review 18:I liked the warmth and friendliness of all the staff, very accommodating. The pool was very good, nice not having to go out to enjoy your day, just relax around the pool. Having the choice of the bar or the A'la carte restaurant for food was fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would definitely go back.

Review 19:Obliging, polite and welcoming staff always ready to expand on the information they could offer by going that extra mile and using the Internet to pursue an inquiry in order to be as helpful as possible. Convenience of location for both Lyme Regis and Charmouth, although both are beyond reasonable walking distance because of hills. Very efficient ceiling fan in bedroom. Varied menu from the bar at reasonable price; we did not try the restaurant menu. Copious buffet and cooked breakfast of high quality. We have no hesitation in recommending the Fern Hill as a base for exploring south Dorset or adjacent south Devon - it is close to the A35 with easy access to Charmouth, from where Golden Cap and part of the Jurassic Coast are accessible on foot. Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland and Honiton are within easy driving distance.

Review 20:There was a really nice welcome with fresh roses and a bowl of fruit in our room and we were treated to fresh coffee and homemade apple cake in the lounge on arrival.

Review 21:Booking through booking.com did not advise that there was not a lift. Although stating disabled we were given a top floor room and had difficulty climbing 3 flights of stairs.

Review 22:The food served from the a la carte could have been better.

Review 23:The hotel is comfortable and the staff are very good. We enjoyed the choice and standard of the bar menu.

Review 24:Location was great, remote but easy to get into local towns. Owner and staff go out of their way to be helpful. Lots of little extras, fruit and flowers in room. Complimentary tea and cake provided

Review 25:Hotel about 4 miles outside Lyme so very convenient. Good grounds, nicely appointed rooms and good general accommodation. Hotel was spotlessly clean and I would stay again.

Review 26:There could have been better lighting around the mirror in the room It was tricky putting makeup on and drying hair from the main light.

Review 27:The warm friendly atmosphere.

Review 28:Wifi being too slow. Wish the doors to be more tight to avoid noises. (Not much noise anyway, but..)

Review 29:Very friendly and nice staff. Good food. Relaxing atmosphere.

Review 30:We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel was immaculate, room was lovely, bed was comfy, food was delicious and the staff were lovely. We honestly couldn't fault it.

Review 31:The staff were friendly and welcoming, also very good at finding things like a hot water bottle for a poorly shoulder! The hotel is very close to Charmouth Beach. It is like a home. The décor in the public rooms is unchallenging and comfortable. The bar food (the only type we tried) was very good. We both slept very well. The road is close but you cant hear it. The bathroom was also comfortable and well equipped. Minus temperatures outside did mean that the floor was a bit cold in the bathroom but easily remedied by putting towel on floor! Some people might keep their shoes on...never thought of that til now!

Review 32:The staff had a great attitude and were very helpful. The room was very clean and the facilities available in the hotel were good. Would recommend and return again

Review 33:I thought very hard for minor faults but could not find any.

Review 34:Very friendly staff. One of the most comfortable hotel beds ever, First class breakfast. First class attention. Thoroughly recommended. Well decorated and spotlessly clean

Review 35:Nothing to do with the hotel but Lyme Regis is dead this time of year (winter) at night.Just the way it is I guess but dismal all the same

Review 36:The bed was extremely comfortable, room very quiet so all in all had a great and much needed nights sleep. The level of cleanliness was top notch, the wifi was excellent with extension hubs on each floor and the breakfast was A1

Review 37:Nothing that I cannot put down to anything but personal taste.

Review 38:The hotel was set just outside Charmouth but in easy walking distance to the beach. The food was excellent and the breakfasts cooked to order. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 39:No comfort chairs to sit on in bedroom furniture very heavy and dark which made the room dismal and lighting in the bedroom inadequate unable to read at night

Review 40:Very welcoming staff very pleasant breakfasts superb

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:Really relaxed place with very friendly and helpful owners and staff. We had a large comfortable room and the food was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Review 43:Check in at 3pm seemed a bit late .Would have liked to check in earlier and had more time on the day to explore local area.

Review 44:friendliness and professionalism of staff. Cleanliness and excellent breakfast. Worth the 20 minute wait.

Review 45:Pool as advertised was out of use, yet not advertised as such. However I still paid £140 for a Superior Double room (single occupancy) out of season, so shudder to think what the 'standard' is like. Room was very small and the en-suite was the smallest I have ever seen. The food was also expensive for what is was, my plaice dinner was minute, plus the ale I had was flat (no sparkler).

Review 46:the layout of the hotel and the town house experience and the breakfast.

Review 47:No lift for baggage. Young ladies at desk offered to help. English food 3/5

Review 48:great location on Jurassic Coast between Charmouth & Lyme Regis. Very accessible with plenty of free parking, a rare commodity in this part of the UK. Very clean. World class bath with great shower and plenty of hot water. Pleasant helpful staff.

Review 49:when I booked I think it was through an agency and they did not answer my query which was - is the restaurant open to non residents. Do not take this as a grumble take it up with the agency !

Review 50:As soon as we arrived my query was answered and the table for 9 booked without any problem. We would visit your hotel anytime we are in the district we can not say anything other than Excellent. Anthony & Wendy

Review 51:The stairs !!! 37 stairs to our Superior room which although comfortable was rather small. No Sky TV.

Review 52:Good location and excellent appearance.Very clean and comfortable.Very friendly staff who tried to please at all times. Excellent food and one of the best breakfasts ever !

Review 53:Swimming pool area could do with more attention - pool shower needed cleaning and sun lounger and chair pads were soaking wet from recent downpours and we could not use them - need a covered area to store.

Review 54:Friendly staff, superb food, comfortable beds, nice surroundings - just a lovely and relaxing hotel

Review 55:The description of our room did not match the one we were in (superior twin) we were very disappointed with what we got for the price that we paid. Wifi was very poor and should not be included as a feature within the room. The bar/grill food was very average but wasn't priced accordingly.

Review 56:The swimming pool, Tea and cakes on arrival, Excellent breakfast and the staff were very helpful, polite and informative.

Review 57:I tried to watch a programme on my ipad and due to the weak wifi it was a struggle.

Review 58:I was greeted on entrance, staff very friendly and asked if I was staying for dinner which I did in the bar and was great food. I spent most of my time in my room, lots of refreshments to choose from and loved the homemade biscuits. The tv was good and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very yummy and there was a breakfast bar with cereals, fruits, pastries and yoghurt but the best was the menu option. I would stay here again and recommend to anyone in the area.

Review 59:Surrounded by a lot of let properties. Noticeable traffic noise. Receptionist seemed reluctant, for some reason, to give out tourist leaflets. They should have been on display, not hidden in a large wooden box! On leaving when I mentioned this, I was told the owners thought the tourist leaflets made the place look untidy. It's pleasant enough outside but there isn't really a garden. Some of the plants were badly in need of watering.

Review 60:Food Staff Dining facilities Room Décor Small hotel (just 10 rooms)

Review 61:In bedroom insufficient light in the evening. Just one more effective side-light would suffice.

Review 62:A lot! Location, staff, comfort, plenty of parking availability, food, easy to relax.

Review 63:Pool hours are restrictive as its not possible to swim before breakfast. Don't really understand why bar menu and restaurant menu are restricted to the times they are. Curtains don't fit the windows so be prepared to wake up with the dawn light.

Review 64:Views across to the sea are very nice from upper floor. Restaurant food quite good. Breakfast choice very good.

Review 65:We were disappointed with the swimming pool and patio area it was in need of a lot of T L C

Review 66:The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room very comfortable and the breakfast excellent.

Review 67:We were on the top floor which proved very difficult, however we would stay there again but would ask for a room on a lower floor.

Review 68:The hotel was in a great location and the staff really helpful. I had a slight accident whilst in Lyme Regis and they could not do enough to help, providing ice packs, phoning the local medical centre who suggested that we go to Bridport Hospital and providing a map of how to get there.

Review 69:Lovely room, friendly staff and fantastic breakfasts.

Review 70:Breakfast was exceptional. An issue with the pepper sauce was rectified immediately and courteously x

Review 71:The attention to detail in all things.

Review 72:Non allergenic bedding thin cold and poor quality. Too many corridors and stairs to our room.
