Reviews for Le Prieure
Review 1:The hotel was a little difficult to find; not super close to core of Avignon
Review 2:Property is really pretty and nice. Our room had a nice view and was quite spacious.
Review 3:Location was. Or that convenient to Avignon. Yes, one could be there quickly with an expensive taxi or less quickly with a bus. But, it was not a place where one could walk around. I felt that we were in a suburb, which I believe we were. I can see its advantages in the summer with the pool and tennis; but, in October, I would not recommend it
Review 4:Place was great I. Almost all respects.
Review 5:I wished to have tea making facilities in the room. Given the price we payand jetlag it would be great to be able to make a cup of tea without calling reception.
Review 6:Old seventies block is very tired apart from refurbished bathrooms. Pity the hot water didn't work and they did not tell us about known fault, but waited for us to complain. Adjoining, unmade up, room left open to ours, affecting our security and comfort. Accommodation and service NOT five star!
Review 7:Restaurant
Review 8:I tried to book a 3 rd night on our 2nd day. I was told the hotel was full. I asked to be informed of cancellations. I was told there were none. I looked on 2 sites, including booking.com. I was able to book a room via booking.com. I then called reception and they told me that wasn't possible I needed to call the hotel and they were full. I asked if I should ignore booking .com and they said yes.I took th booking ref to reception in the morning and they got in a complete pickle saying there was suddenly a cancellation in the room next door to where we were. It really spoiled the whole experience. Needless to say we cancelled after all. Very odd and very disappointing.
Review 9:Exceptionally comfortable. Wonderful food, friendly helpful staff.
Review 10:Friendly staff who used initiative and effort to make us comfortable. Air conditioned bedroom. Delicious food and wine, the wine specialists were able to pick something to suit every circumstance/whim. Plenty of space due to being in a village on the other side of the river from the centre of Avignon. Connected to the Relais et Chateaux group which we've found to be reliably good. There were nice cafes nearby (offering breakfast for around 10 euro). We wanted luxury in Avignon and booked late in peak season so we expected to pay a lot. We got the last room available and it was expensive but we thought was worth it.
Review 11:We had a third floor room and there is no elevator. The website does not make this clear so if stairs are a problem request a low floor. We thought the room was expensive compared to others of the same quality.
Review 12:Room very nicely appointed, hotel is a lovely old home and the location away from the main city is quiet. There is a large pool and excellent restaurant.
Review 13:Mosquitoes in the garden restaurant. But the waiter was very attentive and quickly gave us a bottle of mosquito repellent.
Review 14:The staff were very friendly and efficient. The dinner at the garden restaurant was very lovely.
Review 15:It was not convenience for luggage, it requires a trolley to move luggage from parking to building, and physically move upstairs.
Review 16:The hotel environment was enjoyable; location was good as just beside the castell of new town.
Review 17:If you can afford this place, book it now! This hotel, once a monastery, was the highlight of our 2 week trip to France/Italy! Get a room in the older part of hotel with a balcony , room 15 was the best! Sit on your balcony, order a bottle of wine and enjoy the peaceful, shaded courtyard, the humming of the cicadas and relaxation! Splurge and eat lunch in the restaurant, it is worth the experience! Breakfast was also $$, but worth it! LOVED this place!
Review 18:Eccentric plumbing in bathroom. A shower curtain would have been a good idea.
Review 19:Made to feel welcome from the moment we entered reception. Comfortable, well appointed room, excellent grounds with a welcome, cooling pool and a superb restaurant. Every member of staff was friendly, efficient and a pleasure to deal with.
Review 20:The continental breakfast for 27 Euros per person. Although the French bread and croissants are lovely, we prefer more of a variety. We enquired about eggs and fruit and were told that such things would cost extra. Perhaps we misunderstood?
Review 21:Beautiful room, with balcony, overlooking the pool. Heated towel rack. Beautiful grounds. Complimentary parking in a spacious lot. Very good service ... poor Nicholas (sp?) who transported all our luggage (suitcases, bags, etc.) from the car to our room, was so pleasant. We stopped at reception to ask for a couple of wine glasses. They were delivered to our room, just as we walked in. The women at the reception desk were very pleasant.
Review 22:Beautiful hotel and village! Staff wonderful and very helpful. Our room was in the old building, very spacious and comfortable. We did have an issue with the bathroom, after 2 nights of rain and storms, the bathroom roof leaked badly, when we told the reception, they didn't react. Which was a little disappointing as in some areas of the bathroom there was an inch of water!
Review 23:The Breakfast was very expensive for what was on offer
Review 24:The Hotel and facilities are excellent There are near by cafes and restaurants to offer you choice
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Only spent a day and a night at this classy establishment but left wishing we had booked and had time to stay longer. Peaceful, beautiful and fantastic service with a smile. Will definitely be back.
Review 27:Swimming pool was in need of some refurbishment and was surprisinglycold for the time of year. Breakfast was quite expensive at 27 euro forthe selection offered. The basic breakfast (just croissants, viennoiserie, coffee & juice) at 13 euro was acceptable butunfortunately, it was not on the menu so we only found out by asking.
Review 28:Very nicely located in the charming adjacent town to Avignon. Withthe car, just a 5 minute drive. Lovely grounds. Very nice rooms (wewere staying in le chapitre, the historic part of the hotel).Excellent restaurant, worthy of its one Michelin star. Menu choiceswere limited (typical for the type of restaurant) and forced one togo out to seek alternative dining options. Staff was very nice andhelpful - good service.
Review 29:After going to several Relais Chateaux worldwide. I want it to take the safe option and decided to go for the "Le Preuré" On our first night we were given a room in the attic very very small and badly damaged with peeling paint and moist, since we arrived super late at midnight we decided not to complaint. The next morning after a an horrible hot night. I have asked the reception to move and I have explained the room given to me was a 2stars and I have booked and pay for a 5stars in a Relais. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere but the food was just good at €88/pp. The breakfast was very poor, had to ask for Apricot several time not available at the buffet table. Our conclusion was, on earth this place did get the Relais et Chateaux? Refurbishment and insulation urgently needed.
Review 30:Some of the staff not too friendly Almost same menu 2 nights in a row
Review 31:Property was beautiful Beds were dreadfully uncomfortable. Worse than other European beds I have been in
Review 32:The staff were wonderful, and the dining excellent.
Review 33:The property is stunning. The grounds are picturesque and charming. Our room overlooked the pool and was extremely large and comfortable.
Review 34:Beautiful room. Excellent food
Review 35:Overall character and location
Review 36:The fabulous restaurant allowed my dog in :)
Review 37:Staff were superb!!
Review 38:Was quite expensive.
Review 39:Staff, service and room were perfect.
Review 40:The pool, restaurant and garden, and all the rest.
Review 41:The staff, the facilities, the setting and location were all fabulous, as was dinner in the restaurant. Would highly recommend staying here.
Review 42:Beautiful setting!
Review 43:The room & bath where not up to the standar of roulet &chateau
Review 44:The lush gardens and quiet surroundings. The service in the restaurant was impeccable and the food, amazing.
Review 45:Location, style, staff restaurant quir
Review 46:Nothing!
Review 47:Room - proximity to swimming pool Excellent dining Historic building sensitively modernised
Review 48:Welcoming and professional staff, quiet and peaceful setting.
Review 49:Restaurant very pricey…breakfast at 26 euros per person was too much.
Review 50:Location, charm, pool. Great recommendations for restaurants.
Review 51:Only criticism smelly and scruffy pool changing room
Review 52:Luxuries lap and a noon check- out so you can savour every minute
Review 53:Vehicle access
Review 54:Location, garden, atmosphere, staff
Review 55:price is on the high side
Review 56:location, setting, service quality of staff, wonderfu restaurant
Review 57:wonderful room, warm staff,we all like it very much!
Review 58:Shower was very dirty upon arrival. After asking the reception to kindly clean the room, the receptionist had no apologies, and failed to follow the request. Upon return to the room, the shower was still uncleaned. There were no towels at the pool as well as no staff anywhere to be found. This is most definitely the worst 5 star hotel I have ever stayed in. If you are looking for any sort of cleanliness or service you should look elsewhere.
Review 59:- staying in monastery
Review 60:Pool itself was 1970's concrete and hence a little dated - although it was very clean.
Review 61:Location was excellent, staff were courteous and helpful, room was very comfortable, lovely grounds, plenty of space around the pool with choice of shady or sunny spots no matter what time of day, and very peaceful
Review 62:Not the easiest place to find. Not that easy to drive in and out of as a base.
Review 63:Friendliness of staff, beautiful accomodation gorgeous surroundings.
Review 64:This is our second stay at the hotel. I travel extensively on business and for pleasure and am quite critical of hotel accomodations. I give Le Preiure top marks in every category and would recommend it to anyone traveling to the Avignon area. Dan Sorochan
Review 65:Disappointed that restaurant out of our price range-really expensive even for breakfast. However, local cafés and restaurants were good.
Review 66:Location, handy for the city and local restaurants. Lovely gardens.Parking.
Review 67:The shower had no door or cover, so the bathroom got partly flooded every time we used it. 27 euro per person for breakfast is just too much for a family of four. Fortunately, we found a charming cafe in the nearby village square, and had our brekafasts there - surrounded by locals and some other tourists. The place was always packed, with good reason - excellent croissants and pain de chocolate.
Review 68:The tranquil situation in Villeneuve. The fabulous restaurant, where we had dinner one night. Spacious rooms with terrace. The garden / outdoor areas (though it was unfortunately too cold to use the swimming pool, that must be lovely in summer).
Review 69:It would be good to have a cheaper/more informal option in the restaurant as an addition to the present menus.
Review 70:Lovely well equipped room with excellent service. Very friendly.
Review 71:Quite far away from the attractions, spent quite a lot on taxi. The wardrobe is old, as well as the bed. We are not happy with one of the room cleaner, who threw many of our useful things away and make it very inconvenient for us. Still can't get used to there is no kettle or tea set in room.
Review 72:Quite, the hotel has a very nice garden, our room has a balcony, and the bathroom is spacious, staff is nice and helpful.
Review 73:Room 6 had kind of a strange bed with a seam in the middle. Also, some terrible towel rack in the bathroom with a broken door molding.
Review 74:One of the most enchanting places I've stayed. Lovely staff and incredible setting.
Review 75:Breakfast was a bit expensive but you can walk to other options nearby.
Review 76:Gorgeous setting, the staff was warm and friendly. Rooms were clean, a bit rustic but a nice surprise to learn that the bathrooms were completed updated. Absolutely beautiful little town and the grounds of the property were idyllic.
Review 77:Fabulous restaurant, but there really should be a provision for thosewho don't want more than coffee/croissant for breakfast. Onerate: 33 euros per person, includes buffet breakfast, with all extras+euros; and on a us exchange rate of 130, 1 coffee/croissantcosts $43!In 1 bathroom, hairdryer didn't work; wine glasses not returned to room after use; just a few "details" to be handled by head housekeeper perhaps.
Review 78:Setting is lovely, although hard to find; very tight street/parkingentrance, but once there, wonderful! Gardens, pool, grounds allinviting. Staff very helpful and friendly. Gourmet food (very expensivewines only, at least by us standards) - but what a treat!
Review 79:The staff was highly trained and attention to details and good service was top priority. The setting was lovely, both the hotel and the town. The dining was excellent, some of the best food we had during our stay in France. We would definitely go back given the opportunity.
Review 80:The furnishings of the rooms were not at all luxurious. Our rooms had rather a 'monastic' feel and did not feel five star. The bathrooms were nice and modern but the shower only had a small handheld shower head, and the temperature of the water fluctuated throughout the shower.
Review 81:The setting of the old buildings and courtyard was very attractive. The town of Villeneuve was very pretty and we had a great meal in the town and found terrific croissants and coffee for breakfast. The staff were very courteous.
Review 82:The rooms were large, comfortable beds, bathrooms were big and roomy, the location was easy to access all the great towns around Avignon. The two young girls that were on staff the two days we were there were so pleasant, and helpful! We should have stayed longer!
Review 83:No lift which was a bit awkward with luggage as we were on top floor-however staff very willing to help. Resteraunt looked lovely though you pay for Michelin star. Breakfast at €25 per head over the top.
Review 84:Beautiful Hotel in superb location.
Review 85:For what it claims to be, a five star hotel, member of Relais & Chateau, it could be better maintained in certain areas. The yard wicker furniture is worn and not cleaned regularly; the cushions and dirty, the backs of the sofas and chairs generesously "decorated" with bird droppings... not pleasant to sit. It should be very easy to keep it clean and tidy. There is a railway track right behind the hotel, so for a light sleeper that might present a problem.
Review 86:I liked the location, right across from Avignon and within close driving range to most recommended villages and towns; loved the charm of the town itself; the uniqueness of the hotel -its history. Enjoyed the possibility of a gourmet dinner and lunch prepared by a Michelin starred chef. I liked the ample parking space. Many people would enjoy the swimming pool, I'm sure.
Review 87:Considering the hotel's Relais&Chateau status, the hotel daily rate isnot proporcional to the room facilities and service provided.Complicated and awkward shower system makes bathing a hassle. No curtains provided! Bathroom floor gets wetted. TV is old and size is very small with low image/sound quality. There were burned bulbs in the room. Not to mention ar conditioner blowing directly over the bed. We would'nt return to this hotel.
Review 88:We liked the room size, the restaurantt service, the beutiful envronmentwith lots of greens and ancient church siding the hotel.
Review 89:Very comfortable hotel . Located in a calm town with beautiful gardensaround. The restaurant is very good, although not cheap. I'd indicatethis hotel for those who like calm places to rest and sleep andappreciate a high quality gastronomy and don' mind paying the price.
Review 90:Stairs to the rooms. No elevator. May be a problem, mainly to olderpeople. It seems to me a little overpriced.
Review 91:Very nice hotel. Good service . The restaurant is also very good, although sort of expensive. It's a quiet place , for a nice night ofsleeping. Good swimming pool and beautiful garden.
Review 92:relaxing nature of the hotel and its location
Review 93:Free room update and huge room. Very pleasant location.
Review 94:Not so easy to get to.
Review 95:Beautiful environment, great food,
Review 96:nice
Review 97:Beautiful hotel; excellent service. Wonderfully quiet away from the centre of Avignon.
Review 98:lovely hotel in country setting
Review 99:nothing
Review 100:Fantastic setting, great rooms, great food, wonderful little hotel
Review 101:Breakfast is poor value. Teabags, but that is a French thing.
Review 102:Friendly staff. Excellent restaurant. We were upgraded.
Review 103:Atmosphere, tranquility, gardens, excellent rooms
Review 104:just a bit pricey
Review 105:Everything, from staff at reception to friendly service at an amazing dinner. The pool and garden are delightful places to unwind
Review 106:We loved the beautiful premises, the sizes of the rooms, the nice staff, the grounds, everything.
Review 107:We liked everything.
Review 108:Everything and we will go back.
Review 109:The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was top shelf in size and amenities. The terrace made us feel that we were living in the country.
