Reviews for Lower Slaughter Manor

Review 1:The only issue we found was the lack of transport when staying later on in one of the pubs close by. NOT the fault of the hotel or the staff.

Review 2:The location is absolutely stunning, the building is beautiful, warm and comfortable, the restaurant is magnificent, the staff are absolutely fantastic and the entire stay was perfect. Would definitely and hopefully WILL go again.

Review 3:The hotel creates a relaxing ambience, provides service that is efficient and respectful and the food is excellent. Overall there is no reason why you wouldn't to want visit this hotel, we will be back for certain.

Review 4:Too many stairs; for us the mattress was too soft ; there was an area for tea/coffee making in the room, which was great. However there was no wall socket to plug in the kettle anywhere near! ; thought one of the staff could have been a little more cheerful; the playing of pop music at breakfast time seemed inappropriate for the ambience of the surroundings

Review 5:Location; general ambience; nice touches like fruit, water and sherry in the room; free newspaper

Review 6:Room was too hot and bed very soft. Light difficult for shaving or putting on make up and power sockets nowhere near a mirror to dry hair. Breakfast lacking. Expensive

Review 7:Location was excellent. Very pretty village. Dinner was very tasty but small quantities . Staff very welcoming

Review 8:Value for money was not satisfying for instance the room was somehow lived in, iPod adapter was broken, very dirty windows etc.

Review 9:Quietness and not crowded

Review 10:The selection of wines by the glass in the restaurant was disappointing. You could add a claret and a chablis.

Review 11:Location, restaurant meals, staff service.

Review 12:Staff were incredibly helpful, and the property itself is beautiful. We had a fantastic stay. For anyone else staying with young children, I would recommend eating across the road at the sister property (the Slaughters Inn), as the atmosphere is a little more relaxed and the food great. The restaurant in the Manor was great too, especially the breakfast where I recommend the smoked fish with poached egg, but with a small child it was a little too refined for a relaxed evening meal.

Review 13:Did not eat dinner as the menu was not to our liking and extremely overpriced. Bed and breakfast price was also extremely overpriced.

Review 14:Excellent,pleasant,cheerful,helpful and friendly staff. Spacious and very comfortable bedroom and lounge.

Review 15:As it was an anniversary celebration I requested upon booking that a bottle of champagne was in the room on arrival and followed this up with a phone call to make sure. Unfortunately it wasn't in the room and they tried to charge us at the end.

Review 16:The comfort and friendly service provided during our stay made it a brilliant experience. The surroundings were beautiful and relaxing.

Review 17:We chose to have dinner at the hotel & the fine dining was outstanding as was the quality of food & the service by the staff. The meals we chose as well as the complimentary courses were so innovative. Compliments to the chef & the staff. One of the best fine dining experience we have had in our travels & there have been many. The staff were very friendly & extremely professional. A gorgeous location too.

Review 18:I had originally booked 2 nights, but 12 days later I was told by email that there had been an overbooking. I was offered alternatives at their other properties, and chose one night at Slaughter's Country Inn & the other at the Manor. I thought the mistake might have been spotted sooner. The menu for dinner was somewhat limited and, in my opinion, overpriced.

Review 19:I was given a Junior Suite in the Coach House, which was spacious with a large bathroom. This was not what I had booked, but my further comments explain the situation.

Review 20:The staff were helpful, polite, knowledgable, friendly & well presented. The food was out of this world and beautifully presented. Definitely recommended.

Review 21:No tea or coffee making facility, though they did offer to bring a cup before breakfast. For the price paid there was nothing really on offer apart from a room to sleep in, so price seems over the top at weekends. Guess it's supply and demand.

Review 22:Enormous bathroom. Sherry decanter provided.

Review 23:This hotel is trying to compete with very high class venues but doesn't make it. Staff who couldn't understand our food questions. Had to go and find our own wine as all the waiters had disappeared. Fresh bread at breakfast - no knife to slice it.

Review 24:Lovely location. Beautiful house.

Review 25:The bed was a little too squashy for my liking but that's just personal choice!

Review 26:Booked this for my husband's birthday and had a lovely overnight stay! We were in 'Nina' room which is a suite overlooking the front of the building. Staff were great and room fantastic. Just wished I'd pre-booked dinner either at hotel or somewhere in Stow or Bourton-on -the- water as we found it difficult to get reservations anywhere, very busy!

Review 27:Rather stilted atmosphere, lots of couples and hushed tones. Disappointed no bar area, just lounges. We were put in the adjoining coach house which meant a £5 tray charge just for a cup of tea on arrival...tea making facilities should have been available in the room.

Review 28:Beautiful manor house and Lower Slaughter very pretty but not much else there. Dinner was excellent but very expensive.

Review 29:the room was lovely but spolit by the glass doors that look ugly with the decor of the main room, one bit was hanging down and the doors didn t meet in the middle or stay closed. huge area tiny bathroom. Cleets fixed in different positions....odd. Breakfast only okay. had the venison night before with pork belly on the side which was odd.

Review 30:All the staff friendly and efficient, the upgrade(thank you) and the location were all great. quiet and comfortable. loved the bed! Manor beautiful.Taster menu lovely though see my comment.

Review 31:Service was poor, ran out of wine twice during dinner without being topped up! Assam tea was served in the morning without asking/telling any guests they had run out of English breakfast! Had high hopes for this but was very mediocre and pricey,l.

Review 32:Location

Review 33:the music in the dining room at breakfast The poor english of some of the staff

Review 34:helpfulness of the staff and the comfort of the hotel with the exception of the stairs to the dining room

Review 35:Although I appreciate you allow animals in the cottage rooms, I felt the carpet was a bit too dirty/stained for your premium rooms.

Review 36:Courteous and attentive staff.

Review 37:There wasn't much choice for the evening meal on the menu and it wasn't quite to our taste. The second night we ate elsewhere.

Review 38:The location was a bit off the beaten track and very quiet which was what we wanted. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the room was a good size and clean.

Review 39:there was a sock and a used slipper under the bed

Review 40:the staff were incredibly friendly the food was fantastic the grounds were very romantic the room was very comfortable and very romantic the breakfast was delicious and generous

Review 41:service at Breakfast was a bit slow (only one person on duty most of the time)

Review 42:We went away for my birthday, it was a lovely touch to have chocolates and birthday message in our room. Thank you.

Review 43:Only two restaurants are nearby so not very convenient as we didn't have a car.

Review 44:The manor is at a very good location, there is a horse riding school in just five minutes walk and about 20 minutes walk to other towns like Stow and Bourton on the Water. Very polite staff, kindly gave us directions to nearby towns.

Review 45:Having to leave was the only unpleasant aspects of the stay .

Review 46:The stay was absolutely perfect. The food was excellent, the location perfect, and the accommodations excellent. The manor house was beautiful as well.

Review 47:Beautiful location, lovely accomodation. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a folder of walks which was really handy as we did not know the area well.

Review 48:My only quibble is that the staff were not very good at looking to see how needed anything if you were not their task of the moment in the restaurant. And their tea strainers don't work - they need to use tea bags or get better strainers. Tiny things though.

Review 49:Comfy beds, beautiful rooms and location and fabulous food. Lower Slaughter itself is stunning with lovely riverside walks and stunning villages and places to visit in easy reach.

Review 50:Overpriced food and drink. Had much better food for fraction of price Also very slow bar service. Had to ask for toiletries which you would assume were provided at the price

Review 51:Location. Bedrooms nice

Review 52:Breakfast too fussy and small portions on buffet table Light from hall through glass window on door into room 'Stowe' (thin cloth) Dinner menu too expensive

Review 53:The village setting and beautiful building Other rooms we saw, including one with jacuzzi The lived in, comfortable interior of hotel Walks nearby We could take our dog

Review 54:A minor negative! Although the staff were generally very helpful, we found that they needed to be more attentive in the restaurant.

Review 55:Enjoyed the secluded location and the comfortable room. Food was excellent.

Review 56:Second floor abnormally hot in heatwave .

Review 57:location rooms restaurant Dinner was complimentary after one hour power outage Dinner outside on the river at prperty opposite

Review 58:no hot water one night and morning (we got a partial refund) TV broken down one evening Ridiculously small sink in bathroom and no mirror above it; lady's mirror on the side has no good lighting for make-up

Review 59:great location for visting all lovely villages in Cotswolds (with very nice walk to Upper Slaughter) Nice facilities: cosy, comfortable bedroom and large bathroom; airy and pleasant dining room (wonderful dinner); nice service; nice gardens

Review 60:Views and scenery

Review 62:Service a bit too attentive in a very quiet dining room, and food very fancy - not really to our taste

Review 87:The quality of the room, the service and the food was excellent

Review 88:The restaurant is disappointing - there are much better alternatives nearby (try the outstanding Feathered Nest)

Review 89:Wonderful hotel, a bit overpriced

Review 90:Facilities, staff, dinner, breakfast, garden, and scenery around this manor house were perfect.

Review 91:Too many stairs for elderly people such as ourselves.

Review 103:THE FOOD. OVER PRICED FOR THE MINUTE QUANTITES SERVED WE WENT OUT THE SECOND NIGHT WE THOUGHT THE FOOD WAS OVERPRICED FOR THE MINUTE QUANTITES SERVED THE SEVERAL STAIRS WERE A PROBLEM TO US AS THERE WERE NO LIFTS

Review 104:THE LOCATION

Review 105:A very special hotel. Idyllic location, amazing rooms and 'A-List' service that was second to none. I stay in a lot of hotels for business and leisure and this is the best hotel experience I have had - made for a perfect weekend.

Review 106:Breakfast I had an omelette and It was full of salt, not good really and food in house was very expensive. We went to Queens Head in Stow absolutely amazing food.

Review 107:Grounds are beautiful and good location to Cheltenham.

Review 108:Nothing.. I cannot find a single fault with this hotel and the service we received.

Review 109:From the moment we got there we were met by the car to welcome us and take our luggage. Our room was upgraded free of charge. Staff were amazing.. Experience was second to none.. Even down to the personal touches like when we left for dinner and returned later the bed was turned down and the water was moved from the central table to the bedside table. I cannot fault a single thing.. Ten out of ten..

Review 110:some of the decor is a bit ratty and the place could generally use a lick of paint. carpet down to restaurant needs replacement

Review 111:excellent, attentive staff; extremely helpful food and presentation was amazing excellent wine selection ... and the sommelier looks like Dennis Quaid! very comfy bed quiet!!!

Review 112:Staff were friendly and attentive. They literally couldn't do enough for you. Although it's a VERY nice hotel there is no sign of "elitism" or people looking down their noses at you. All very laid back and friendly. The food was amazing, genuinely one of the best meals I've ever had

Review 117:1. Lighting in restaurant was too bright - need to follow the excellent lighting at Buckland Manor - a sister hotel. 2. Main lounge although pleasant had the potential to have a much bigger impact.

Review 124:The dining room is not quite as charming as the rest of the hotel (but nice nevertheless). And, as mentioned, more than made up for by the quality of the food.
