Reviews for Ty Dre Town House
Review 1:the room was a little cold at first but warmed after I got back from supper
Review 2:very comfortable room and very polite staff especially the breakfast staff and the bar staff
Review 3:Great location. Nice big comfortable bed. Kitchen area, fridge dishwasher etc. Big bathroom and large TV. Great food at the Black Boy inn, large portions. Good walks from the door
Review 4:Not so much a "bad experience" but table provided not big enough for 2 people to eat at at the same time - given that the room had a kitchenette had hoped for a bigger table! Also the fact that the TV's position on the wall prohibited the wardrobe door opening to its full capacity, making it rather dark inside.
Review 5:Having a kitchenette combined with hotel facilities - More self sufficient! Also providing Christmas crackers & present of mini whiskies & glass - I don't like whiskey but John, my husband, appreciated it!
Review 6:The only problem we encountered - and it was very small - is that the plug in the shower was a little slow to drain, meaning water filled up the base of the shower cubicle. However, this was a tiny problem in what was a wonderful stay, and I would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 7:A brilliant hotel, great value for money in a characterful building located right in the centre of town. The room was excellent, with a great balcony, comfortable bed, wooden-beamed ceiling, massive flat screen TV and en suite bathroom. Staff were helpful and friendly, and gave good tips on dining and parking.
Review 8:the room 73 was amazing we have stayed at the black boy severn times now . every time has been exellent very pleased see them again later in the year thanks mr williams
Review 9:There wasn't really anything to dislike. The only thing that would make it perfect is to have a small table to dine at, seeing as though the kitchen is well equipt & has everything you need for self catering.
Review 10:As always the staff at the Black Boy Inn were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The accommodation was sizeable, the furnishings new and everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower powerful & the kitchen well equipt.
Review 11:Noise from pub opposite could have been a problem but it stopped early enough not to be.
Review 12:No fussing. Provision of food on first day and complimentary drink. Good clean, comfortable, would recommend it. Good value for money.
Review 13:I had to leave early !!
Review 14:Check in was quick and easy, the room was spacious and well appointed. I checked in late and left early so I didn't get to fully appreciate the room!! I would definitely stay again and next time for longer
Review 15:- Bed mattress was a little bit too hard for me
Review 16:- Amazing Value for price! - 4 star apartment with great facilities - Full kitchen - Very very spacious
Review 17:the location - central and so close to the Black Boy pub / restaurant. Very practical on cold wet evenings. Also thought this the best value of all the places I've stayed in so far in the area in terms of cost, location, comfort, decor. Not forgetting the free parking & WiFi
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Myself and partner really enjoyed the facilities, the room was excellent as was the food, bar was good staff excellent could not fault anything.
Review 20:Fantastic location in the heart of the town. The room was excellent - a spacious double room - very clean with all the facilities you need. The breakfast was great - such a choice of food. It was excellent value for money and I would definitely stay there again.
Review 21:Unfortunately the heating was not working after it was reported the receptionist brought us a portable heater but this did not heat the bathroom which was freezing I became unwell during our stay and not being able to have a shower combined with disturbed sleep due to the noisy pub opposite the room meant that we decided not to stay for the second night On returning home my husband realised he had left his reading glasses on the bedside table he called to ask for them to be posted to him and was told that they were not in the room I cannot understand how they can have just disappeared when only ourselves and the housekeeping staff had access
Review 22:The location was great - apart from the noisy pub - the room was lovely & spotlessly clean, the staff at reception were friendly and helpful
Review 23:We arrived late at 10.30 pm and the hotel reception was still open to welcome us. Room was perfect for us, very clean with kitchenette, super huge flat TV and location of the hotel is simply perfect. Within walking distance to the castle. Fully recommended!
Review 24:having to leave!
Review 25:the bed was fab and the pillows were so comfy, why cant I find pillows like these. The staff went out o their way to help me and my husband, nothing was a problem or too much trouble.
Review 26:Being woken up by someone setting the fire alarm off at midnight but you can't hold the company responsible for idiots.
Review 27:Great location and fantastic room.
Review 28:Had an amazing trip so no bad things to comment on.
Review 29:Myself and my fiance just got engaged and stayed in several places in England and finished our trip off in Caernafon. The location of this hotel is perfect as it is inside the Walls so close to the castle. The town house is brilliant, 1 minute away from the Black Boy Inn. The staff were amazing and the women dressed in full Welsh Women costume. As my fiance is not from the UK and wanted pictures with them, they were so happy to oblige. No troubles with the room as it was perfect. Lovely bedroom, bathroom with bath and shower and even a kitchen area. Thanks for a great stay, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else when we come back.
Review 30:Street noise. Our room was two floors up but could still hear every drunk and not so drunk leaving the pub opposite. Rooms aren't well soundproofed. Once Pubs closed after midnight was fine. My advise would be stay out late! No lifts so if not physically able ask for a lower floor.
Review 31:Great location, kitchenette, helpful reception staff on checkin, good bed, nice bathroom.
Review 32:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was brilliant, (really large portions,so value for money)and the room was beautiful. Will stay again!
Review 33:No problem but mentioned on the sheet in room 82 (i think) top floor. The mirror light needs sorting and the bathroom fan didn't work.
Review 34:Quality accommodation. Price £78 good. Staff were great, friendly, knowledgeable, intetested and efficient.
Review 35:Comfortable, easy parking, warm welcome, best pub in Caernarfon. Quality bathroom with luxury bath products. Huge tv. Tea / coffee making facilities.
Review 36:Very helpful staff - I booked online and mentioned that too many stairs would be a problem for my mother. They called to say the booked room was on top floor, but when we arrived, they moved us to a ground floor more expensive room at no extra cost.
Review 37:This hotel is an annex of others without any facilities There is no car park available close to this building our room was on ground floor giving directly on a commercial street
Review 38:The location
Review 39:Room 75 is next door to the boiler room and became too warm during the night. The pillows, though of good quality, felt like sleeping on a piece of wood.
Review 40:The location in the town was excellent and due to being in the Town House and not the public house, there was no excess noise. The young people doing most of the work were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The room was a good size and spotlessly clean. The Black Boy Inn food, breakfast and dinner, is excellent quality and good value for money.
Review 41:The room and food were excellent. It was a joy to stay there and after hearing about other hotels on the Highland Railway trip to PorthMadog we were very glad we chose to stay there.
Review 42:Being at the front on ground floor and opposite a lively pub not so good, definitely could do with better double glazing.
Review 43:Everything in the room was excellent.
Review 44:Would just have liked some better/thicker towels. Needed an early breakfast which they struggled to provide and was expensive for what we had. Evening meal was rushed- main courses arrived very quickly after starters meaning they had been sat cooked waiting for us to finish starters.
Review 45:Great location very close to the castle. Fantastic room with great facilities. We had an easy access room which was superb. Waitresses and check in staff were extremely helpful and friendly- restaurant manager being slightly hectic on a busy night!
Review 46:Only downside, table not really larger enough to dine at, could replace with dropside table would be good. Could do with dishes for microwave. Cutlery a little short could do with more.
Review 47:Location, very central in old town near castle. Parking secure near castle security on gate. Nice unit, comfortable, top security although felt very safe. People very friendly.
Review 48:The room location at the front of the property was a disaster - right opposite an extremely loud pub or bar that kept us awake for 2 nights until early hours The room was far too hot and would benefit from air conditioning Breakfast was an extremely poor standard for all 4 guests - burnt, overlooked and greasy in fact inedible and not even an apology offered Some of the customer service left a lot to be desired
Review 49:Location of the hotel is excellent Standard of the property was excellent Facilities were excellent Most of the food was of a good standard and value for money
Review 50:Nothing really perhaps check in a little earlier please.
Review 51:Staff were all lovely and helpful. Ty Dre is in a quiet street but at the heart of everything going on; close to many bars, restaurants and shops. Close to the castle and within easy walking distance to the town centre. A lovely comfortable well equipped kitchen and very comfortable beds. Bathroom very clean and modern lovely soft towels changed daily. This is a little gem of a place especially if you want more than just a bedroom. Won't hesitate to recommend and will return again soon. First experience of using booking.com and very impressed with service.
Review 52:The little green led on the roof that gives the room a green tinge when the lights are out (didn't bother my partner at all, I just hate led's)
Review 53:The rooms were really nice and big. Bed was comfy and there was a huge TV to watch from the bed.
Review 54:Fantastic locale, with views of the castle from the room. Our room was well put together with a modern finish which I would have expected to cost us much more. It was within a five minute walking distance of some fantastic bars and restaurants which saved us from having to look places up. Would certainly stay here again if I'm travelling near Caernarfon.
Review 55:The only thing that I could make a negative comment on is that there was no place to hang damp coats. Hooks on back of door or bathroom door would have been useful.
Review 56:Thought the location was excellent. The self catering room was spacious, comfortable and lovely and clean. Staff were very helpful.
Review 57:No lift. If you have room on top floor there are three sets of stairs to climb with luggage.
Review 58:Great large, comfortable suite with kitchenette facilities more than adequate for preparing breakfast or a snack. High quality linen, towels and furnishings. Spotlessly clean. You can't go wrong if you stay here.
Review 59:Location great in centre of Caernarfon. Staff very friendly and efficient. Room and kitchen very clean and kitchen even had dishwasher !!! Only thing I would add to make it a 10 is a bigger table to eat on in room, some more mood lighting, a chest of drawers and as kitchen was big enough an extra work surface. But this wouldn't put us off staying there again.
Review 60:We could have done with a second key card, but to be fair we didn't go out of our way to ask for one.
Review 61:Access to WIFI was great, the room was pleasant and quiet. A large screen TV was good to have when the weather turned for the worst.
Review 62:Table could have been larger for eating, or the hotel could have provided trays. Checking in is in the Black Boy in a cramped reception area, which is a little frustrating on arrival after a long journey.
Review 63:very convenient room with kitchenette in the heart of Caernarfon. Facilities were updated and clean.
Review 64:woken at 4am with the refuse collectors and street cleaners on a tues, dont go on a Tuesday.rattling broken bottles ect in the trucks
Review 65:very central to the castle and amenities.
Review 66:Our waitress at breakfast on the Sunday had difficulties with the electronic system and ordered the wrong food for me and also at a couple of other tables.
Review 67:The central location is superb
Review 68:Great location and quirky set up The Black Boy Inn has great ambience and friendly staff with fantastic meal selection and service.Would stay longer next time
Review 69:Try Dre was well located and the directions given were very easy to follow. Spacious rooms clean rooms. Very comfortable with fans for the hot ( ahem) british summers ! Well equipped kitchenette. Very friendly staff who were helpful and knowledgeable and we were given a very warm welcome.
Review 70:Parking was an issue with a fair way to carry luggage. The air conditioning was set too high and we cooked. The bed was not very comfortable.
Review 71:It was in a very convenient place for sightseeing.
Review 72:Room rate didn't include breakfast. Parking is difficult and once you are parked in the main public car park near the castle, your car is there for the night. If you exit, you can't return.
Review 73:Located near the castle, and very friendly staff. Quiet room.
Review 74:I only stayed 2 nights.
Review 75:It was like staying in living history. I didn't realise we would be inside the walls. It's a pretty interesting experience, and the room was very good.
Review 76:Our room in the Ty Dre town house was on the second floor and was very warm even though the weather wasn't particularly hot. Very noisy in the night due to Seagulls.
Review 77:Beautiful accommodation. Good variety of beers in the black boy pub. Excellent food sold in both the restaurants and bar.
Review 78:as my teenage son said "it had the three most important things in a good hotel - comfortable beds, nice clean bathroom with a good shower and good TV in the room. Excellent location in the heart of Caernarfon within a 2 minute walk from excellent cafes and restaurants.
Review 79:The staff at reception was nice enough, but not at all helpful. They didn't have the answers to any questions we had about things to visit in the area and didn't share information that should have been shared (like the closing time for the parking lot we were assigned to).
Review 80:The location was fantastic for seeing Caernarfon. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The room was reasonably well appointed.
Review 81:It would have been helpful to have had a list on the website of what was in the kitchens in the self catering rooms. I asked for details and was only told there were pans. In fact there was a pan set, crockery and some very basic cleaning materials. Just useful to know so we brought what we needed and left at home what we didn't.
Review 82:Fantastic friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. No request was too big. Will certainly look to come back
Review 83:Parking is a small issue but we were fortunate to park near the Inn although I understand some have to park (free) near the castle. Some noise from the public house opposite, but did not go on too late.
Review 84:Excellent accommodation, just round the corner from the Black Boy Inn. Had kitchen if we wished to use also. We stayed after visiting Snowdon which is only 20 minutes away by car.
Review 85:We used this as our base from which to explore Snowdonia and it worked beautifully. Our room was spacious and quiet and we were very pleased with the kitchen facilities. The location away from the main inn made it feel like we were in our apartment which was a pleasant change.
Review 86:Room was immaculate, spacious and everything was thought of. Black Boy restaurant is a trip back in time and the quality of the food and ingredients is second to none. The waiter accidentally spilt drinks over me during dinner but they provided a free bottle of wine and washed all of my clothes and shoes. All of the staff are so lovely that you leave wondering how soon you can come back.
Review 87:The noise from the pub across the road and general street noise, worse because we like our windows open because the room was warm and we like fresh air.
Review 88:The spaciousness, kitchenette and large bathroom, comfy bed.
Review 89:The stairs are a bit of a challenge, especially if your luggage is heavy. Not a problem for climbers, but worth mentioning to guests who might struggle.
Review 90:The location is ideal and there was lots to see and do nearby. Food in the Black Boy pub was excellent.
Review 91:No complaints
Review 92:The room was of top quality; nothing was done cheaply. Even the Branded mugs were of high quality. I wish I could have brought the bath tub home with me; it was spectacular.
Review 93:The room and bathrom were top class - good quality fittings and facilities in good order. Especially liked the illuminated mirrors in the bathroom. Security to the house & the emergency lights and marking of fire exits were noticably of a high standard
Review 94:WeFi is not the best Parking is not good but there are public parks about 200 metres away
Review 95:The character and atmosphere are wonderful. The decor of the public rooms outstanding. The food excellent
Review 96:Rooms get hot and although fan supplied you cannot leave windows open on a friday or Saturday night as opposite a roudy pub with music, but hey ear plugs solved that :)
Review 97:Loved the room, local food and great location.
Review 98:Very minor niggles: A couple of small tables to eat off would have been useful. The supply of washing up liquid & cloth. A little more cutlery, plates etc than just two of everything, else what is the use of the dish washer. Out of the scope of the Hotel, but our room was prone to the noise of the extractor fan from the eatery a few doors away at the back of the room. And finally, seagulls are really noisy birds at night and early morning - I'm sure they were nesting nearby.
Review 99:We liked: The room proportions which were quite generous - the bed (large double) mattress was a comfortable sleep - bathroom again was a good size with plenty of natural and electric light. Hot water was for as long as you needed it without going cold under the shower. Two comfy armchairs, TV and good WiFi signal. Kitchenette worked well for our needs to blast ready meals etc. We think it deserves its high rating.
Review 100:Inadequate and shallow response from management regarding critical emergency situation after accident in room. Response was sympathetic and accommodating but lacked empathy. Check the difference between sympathy and empathy.
Review 101:Great location for walking around a historic community. Good room with severely closing door with guillotine results.
Review 102:No lift in the Town House accomodation, had to carry cases up 3 flights of stairs. Pillows a bit too hard for my taste.
Review 103:The staff in the restaurant very pleasant and helpful.
Review 104:the funny new carpet smell (reminds me of my old chemistry lab) and the patchy WiFi connection.
Review 105:The soft carpets, the clean rooms, the quiet location, the friendly staff and the MASSIVE bed.
Review 106:We had room 80 which was lovely, but did get quite noisy outside later in the evening being its right opposite a pub! The room was very warm and can imagine that in the summer you would definitely have to have the use of the small fan which they supply!
Review 107:With the kitchenette in the room it was great for breakfast so we weren't limited to the time of eating. We had evening meal in the hotel on the first night, didn't have to wait long for a table and had a good comprehensive menu, plenty of eateries in the area.
Review 108:Room 70 on the ground floor is spacious and very comfortable with kitchenette. It looks out on to the High Street but those outside cannot see in. Car parking was available adjacent to the Black Boy.
Review 109:The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable, the room was hot and you couldn't have the windows open because the noise from the pub opposite
Review 110:The food in the Black boy restaurant was fantastic and the staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. The hotel room was quite luxurious but unfortunately the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable, the room was hot and you couldn't have the windows open because the noise from the pub opposite was too loud.
Review 111:My only complaint would be about the noise outside, as the windows are not double glazed and the house is right opposite a busy pub. Earplugs sorted that though. :)
Review 112:Location was very central. We booked the queen suite with kitchenette and it was very spacious and comfortable.
Review 113:Noise from The Crown pub opposite hotel. Very bright green light over door. (which assume is for fire safety).
Review 114:Convenience. Great food. Friendly, Helpful staff. Comfortable, spacious room.
Review 115:Wasn't told where our room was, there is more than one building so this was rather important. Also wasn't told that our room no. 782 was actually room no. 82 in building 7 (would have been helpful as we assumed this was either an error or maybe that our room was no.78 on the second floor, as we doubted that there were over seven hundred rooms). This meant a lot of back and forth to the reception, which was in a separate building down the road.
Review 116:Comfy beds, nice clean and comfortable room with great bathroom facilities and tea and coffee area. Secure location lots of security doors to get through with key card, great location in the town. Friendly staff but expensive food and drink, however this is expected in a tourist area such as this.
Review 117:Nothing, just didn't like leaving!
Review 118:Loved this 2 night stay. Room clean, comfortable and spacious. Great having kitchen facilities but plenty of places to eat in the area.
Review 119:For the price of the room I would have thought you got breakfast but had to pay £6.95 each also are room was street facing there was a pub straight across the road where there was fighting and music until 4
Review 120:The room was lovely the hotel restaurant was amazing food was beautiful..
Review 121:- The noise from the pub across the street - the windows are not double-glazed so it was as if we were in the pub
Review 122:- The bed was big and comfy - The location of the hotel is perfect if you want to visit the castle
Review 123:Guests not allowed to use car park was sent across town to insecure dark carpark, bed and breakfast cost does not include breakfast, hotel smelt of fried food and room had a lingering smell of cleaning fluid, reception staff were too assertive
Review 124:New refurbished room
Review 125:I found out I'm not a fan of Welsh tap water - I'd forgotten to purchase some bottle water before going out for the evening... So maybe a bottle of water in the room would be a nice touch to go with the tea, coffee and hot chocolate which is provided...
Review 126:Location amazing, room stunning, staff excellent, and fitted out to a very high standard! We were on the top floor (warning there are a lot of stairs to non disabled access rooms - we were pre warned so not a problem for us!) From our window we looked onto the castle (with a few other properties in the view line) which was a lovely surprise... Even tho we didn't park directly outside the main reception which is at The Old Black Boy (only round the corner) the second car park was only a few minutes walk down by the castle. The room we booked didn't include breakfast and I am sometimes worried about what extra costs willbe involved - Not a problem here! We had two full Welsh breakfasts cooked on order with lots of tea, coffee and a couple of extra non inclusive breakfast drinks and it cost us less than £15. Well worth it!
Review 127:The cold water tap in the bathroom seemed to run warmish water :/
Review 128:First time staying at new town house. Huge room nicely decorated and very clean. Great deep bath and love having a kitchenette that's separate from the bedroom. Great to see some regeneration in Caernarfon happening
Review 129:The restaurant Black Boy has a waiting list for the table, so you always have to wait at the bar to be seated. Basically extra money spent on drinks.
Review 130:Very close to bus station and main shops, restuarants and the castle. Kitchen offers freedom of cooking, bed was huge
Review 131:Niggles but nothing major.
Review 132:Location was excellent with Carnarvon Castle less than a minutes walk away. The kitchen was of a good standard. Have a large TV was an added bonus as most hotel rooms only supply a small TV. Plenty of room in the bedroom, very warm and comfortable. Only 2 negatives. 1:- small tea cups.. so asked for mugs and mugs we had. 2:- Had to park in the castle car park, might be a bit far for some disabled people.
