Reviews for Deer Park Country Hotel
Review 1:Fantastically peaceful stay, with attentive, friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our evening. Highlight was the offer of a tour of the walled garden with Head Gardener Ollie whose enthusiasm ensured that we will return to see progress in the garden. Food was an absolutely revelation - a long time since we've had such amazing flavour combinations.
Review 2:Only thing to add is a magnifying mirror in bedroom or bathroom for make up shaving or contact lenses.
Review 3:Peace & qiute very friendly lovely location. Well kept gardens. Great time we had. Thank you.
Review 4:Furniture in the lounge was not the most comfortable I've experienced and looked a little tired. Had a glass on our table at breakfast that was not completely clean.
Review 5:Food was excellent, staff were polite and friendly without being intrusive. Grounds were lovely, room lovely with fantastic view.
Review 6:Whilst the bed was comfy and the room clean it had a shabby chic feel - paper peeling off the wall in the bathroom and the bath enamel chipped - bedrooms need some tlc Due to circumstances unable to eat in the restaurant in the evening - would like to return to try the restaurant
Review 7:Super grounds - friendly staff - very good breakfast with a good choice of fruit - reception areas very 'country house ' feel
Review 8:for safety reasons a rubber bath mat should have been provided AND the Bath with Shower was definitely IFFY as there were no Grab Rails.
Review 9:the layout of the 'MANSION' very impressive the getting to it bit was helped considerably by road signs to DEER PARK if there were none, a guide dog would be necessary. I found no fault atallatall except.........................................
Review 10:Winter-weight duvet on a hot August night. Dinner menu not great and expensive. We went to the Otter Inn along the road which was excellent.
Review 11:Lovely grounds
Review 12:The beds were like sleeping on a cloud - heaven, best we've ever had. Beautiful surroundings to walk around a very special place. Taxi ride into town superb - everything you would want from a country retreat.
Review 13:Garden rooms somewhat disappointing in location, size and distance from main house. Room housekeeping not great for our visit. We were mistakenly allocated, on arrival, a room which had been closed for deep cleaning, for reasons immediately obvious on opening the door. This error, though quickly resolved by very apologetic staff, did mar our stay. A further communication error resulted in our being billed for complimentary drinks, but this too was rapidly resolved.
Review 14:Excellent location; good value and quality dining. beautiful grounds.helpful staff,
Review 15:no wi-fi in rooms. Bar prices on the high side
Review 16:The layout of the Hotel and grounds is amazing. The food in the Restaurant is excellent and largely sourced with local produce. The staff were very friendly and also very efficient. There is a very large collection of original sporting pictures and memorabelia scattered around the Hotel
Review 17:The only problem with the garden room was that we had to go to breakfast across the garden in the rain!
Review 18:We had a garden room and it was in a beautiful setting, the grounds were extensive and just right for a walk before dinner......or after.
Review 19:Lady on reception on our check in was lovely and upgraded us to a superior room which was fabulous, we were in "Lilly", one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in Breakfast was really good too
Review 20:The fact that we were only able to spend one night!
Review 21:Pretty well everything! Lovely set up and the sporting twist of paintings kept me occupied for ages.
Review 22:Excellent service, very nice rooms, beautiful building and gardens, excellent food and extremely comfortable beds. in other words I am a very satisfied customer.
Review 23:Breakfast seemed a little unprepared (table not dressed) and service wasn't as good as the night before when we had dinner.
Review 24:Amazing main house and lovely grounds
Review 25:Weak internet in the garden rooms. The bath in my room was narrow and the fixed shower screen made using the bath a little awkward. It is also quite high which may account for the damaged tiles as you step out.
Review 26:This is a high class venue. Lovely surroundings and tentative staff. Dinning is a very pleasurable experience.
Review 27:The breakfast could have been better. I had a breakfast muffin which was luke warm at best. I was in a hurry so didn't have time to moan or send back. It was a little disappointing. Also there didn't seem enough staff on at breakfast time.
Review 28:The room was comfortable, clean and modern and very nicely decorated. The dinner we had was very good indeed and in a lovely dining room. The setting was quite beautiful.
Review 29:The beautiful park, the amazing surprises around every corner, secret garden, swinging seat, zippier and more. The very comfortable and well thought out accommodation and the magnificent food.
Review 30:Poor Wi Fi service. Not enough coffee in the room , only enough for two cups
Review 31:The staff, the room and the friendly ambience. The food was excellent . The experience well worth it. If only they could get a faster Wi Fi and make it available in the rooms. Oh and the television reception was poor and the set had to be retuned by a member of staff. Still we are in the countryside I suppose. Would stay again without hesitation.
Review 32:As a business trip, the lack of WiFi in the room was a problem as I had to take my laptop and paperwork down to one of the lounges in the main house to get any WiFi!
Review 33:Booked last minute for a one night stay whilst on a course nearby and got a very good deal. The location and property has the wow factor in abundance.
Review 34:My only minor complaint was when we booked we thought we was booking a room in the main house.which on arrival we was put in a fair room in a block at the rear.
Review 35:Fabulous location, wonderful and helpful staff, main house superb, food selection and quality great.
Review 36:a little disappointing really, no wifi in the room and virtually no wifi in the lounge area, made it hard to plan our route! No covered walkway from converted barn to the main house which would make for a terrible stay in wet weather
Review 37:breakfast was great
Review 38:Two rooms the same, same price, but one much bigger with more in it. Staff friendly, but a wedding reception was being held at hotel and we felt the guests associated with the wedding party were viewed with more importance.
Review 39:Rooms nice, food good, set in secluded countryside once you've found it.
Review 40:First trip into Honiton wasn't easy as signpost missing (not hotels fault) take care or you'll end up on a single track.
Review 41:On arrival needed to change room due to husbands disability. Sorted immediately. Staff were helpful and caring
Review 42:Whilst still work in progress the modernisation to an old Country House Hotel is great and the staff were super . Agreat place to stop for a couple of days or en route to Devon /Cornwall
Review 43:Didn't like the restaurant used as thoroughfare during dinner.
Review 44:Staff excellent. Very professional and as an ex PE teacher and now antiques dealer I loved the owners obvious interest in sport. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious.
Review 45:Cold dining room/ no toast or biscuits with terrine
Review 46:Welcoming staff/gorgeous food well presented/superb setting/loved the fact that we were changed at moments notice because of a wedding so that we were,t disturbed!
Review 47:We were out in a Garden room and a lack of outside lighting plus just gravel/mud car park outside the room made for a rather dirty trip up to the hotel for dinner with my wife in smart shoes. Suggest boots if visiting in winter.
Review 48:A wonderful relaxed environment with outstanding food and great staff
Review 49:Bathroom deco was dated and didn't look great. The sink was very small however the shower was good and powerful. Need as bit of a re-vamp
Review 50:The bed was very conftable and the breakfast very nice. Impressive house with nice period features. The garden looked great too. Very close to Honiton and ideal for me on business
Review 51:Breakfast starts at 7:30, which is a little late if setting off early to avoid motorway traffic. No Wifi in room.
Review 52:The décor, friendliness, a good stay for leisure.
Review 53:friendly staff very keen to please and extremely helpful. lovely period comfortable furniture and interesting art work menu and gardens chilled atmosphere
Review 54:The hotel itself was stunning, we had a small mix up with rooms upon arrival but this was quickly sorted. The main house was charming as were the grounds and the staff were attentive but not intrusive, the night away was all we had hoped for.
Review 55:This was my second stay at the Deer Park Country Hotel in the last month and it was as good as my first. It is a very comfortable hotel in a beautiful setting. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I thought the hotel was excellent value for money and I would definitely stay again.
Review 56:Paying £7.95 for a glass of wine!
Review 57:We stayed in the newly refurbished garden rooms which were beautiful. There was a large shower and the bed was very comfortable
Review 58:Room was not made after first night. We kept the key during the day unaware that hotel did not have a spare! Room Service, therefore, unable to get in. Quite a push, as soon as we'd arrived after a long journey, to commit us to dining in.
Review 59:Sense of excitement on approach long drive beautiful surroundings and old house. Jaguar and Alvis lent a classic appeal on the drive. Main house decor and art work impressive and Reception and all staff polite and attentive.
Review 60:We found nothing to dislike
Review 61:Beautiful location and friendly staff. It is always a pleasure to return and to enjoy the grounds with our Japanese Spitz dog. Tip,- our sat nav kept telling us to turn left when reaching the road, but if you turn right instead you will avoid a long lane and reach the main highway by a shorter route.
Review 62:I would have liked to have been told that a 'garden view' room was actually in a separate wing. Room was quite small and I would have much preferred to be in the main house
Review 63:Lovely food, staff very friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds with lovely feather duvets
Review 64:The staff was very unaccommodating and a bit inhospitable. We were unable to get dinner reservations until much later than we would prefer and there was no other dinner option available. We were finally able to get a ham sandwich in our room.....which was better than nothing. It wasn't just the lack of food choices available but the attitude of haughty indifference. The room was pleasant but definitely not worth the price. The one night stay at the Deer Park Hotel was a definite low point in our visit to southern England.
Review 65:Location was very pretty and scenic and parking was free. Room and bath were clean and comfortable. However, it is very isolated and therefore one is dependent on the hotel for dinner options.
Review 66:There was nothing not to like.
Review 67:You were made to feel as though you were in the set of Downtown Abbey. A wonderful experience in front of the open fire sipping a glass of wine.
Review 68:My room was in the Garden wing some distance from the main house, and I was told that they had just spent £600k on renovation that part of the hotel. So I was very disappointed that there was no Wifi internet available at all in the Garden wing. There was also no 3G signal on my phone, so it was necessary to walk back to the main house if you needed the Internet for work/emails. I asked at reception and was told there was nothing they could do as the router was in reception? If you need Wifi in your room you need to be careful to check if it is available before you book!!!
Review 69:Frankly, for single occupancy the accommodation was far too small and verging on the ridiculous. Far better not to offer single occupancy with such unsatisfactory conditions.
Review 70:Very nice peaceful setting. Main building very pleasant as befits a country house hotel.
Review 71:Lack of Wifi coverage - only near reception, no bicyle parking (although the place does promoted outdoor activities) and the fact that there was no option for food other than full formal dinner for £30 when I arrived in the evening.
Review 72:Grounds, building, architecture, gardens, staff - all excellent, art on the walls and in the gardens, quaility of food at breakfast, room bathroom, The overall experience was excellent. I would recommend to everybody and already have. Thank you all for my stay.
Review 73:room 5 lilly needs updating had to keep asking is this a classic plus room, also as above reception you hear main doors banging a lot. hotel was not busy so not so much a problem.
Review 74:surroundings and period furniture, good breakfast choice ect.
Review 75:I didn't find any faults that would deter me from visiting again.
Review 76:Beautiful setting and lovely country house atmosphere. Excellent décor. Excellent accessibility despite being tucked away. Very dog friendly too.
Review 77:Some noise pollution from A303 but not too bad
Review 78:Great food. Lovely, newly refurbished rooms in the old stable block. Nice atmosphere in the main house Nice grounds with picturesque walk down to the Otter River Attentive staff
Review 79:I found it difficult to find through my SatNav. More choices on the menu for me would have been better. The menu was what I would call 'sophisticated' some nice everyday options would have been better. Breakfast was very nice.
Review 80:The grounds were stunning. The room I had was outside of the mail hotel, in the stables. This was fine, it is only a short walk back to the hotel. The room was very comfortable with great pillows!
Review 81:Seemed a bit pricey. We booked on a bank holiday weekend but it was the most expensive hotel out of 3 we stayed in. The main house looks like it could use a refurbishment but the staff said this was planned for 2014/15. It'll be amazing when it's finished if it's anything like the stable rooms but I'd be disappointed if they increase the price further.
Review 82:Our meal at Deer Park was the best we had all weekend, and we like to eat good food! They are blessed with an amazing chef. We stayed in the stable rooms away from the main building which were recently refurbished to an excellent standard. There was a wedding on the night of our stay and the rooms were just far enough away to not be disturbed by the music. Gorgeous large gardens to gaze upon over a drink.
Review 83:Booking in experience was poor with no information given about the hotel except time of breakfast. Had to ask where breakfast was served. Was given a lower class of room against what we booked. The room we were given overlooked what appeared to be the remains of a builders dump.
Review 84:Beautiful setting with a comfortable bed and good breakfast. Attitude of staff when we complained, however, a follow up letter about our complaint was promised and over two weeks down the line this has not been received despite a letter from ourselves to the hotel.
Review 85:The food was good but a little expensive, particularly the bar meals.
Review 86:Almost everything. Superb location and facilities, friendly staff and comfortable accomodation.
Review 87:nothing, all was great
Review 88:lovely Big and comfortable room, away from other guests (we had 5 month baby with us), excellent breakfasts, friendly and attentive staff
Review 89:paid for a garden room but it over looked a building site, room was to hot ,put on fan which will had to turn off as it was noisy.room had one small window which did not let in any light,
Review 90:The staff were very friendly .The house looked very impressive, it is very convenience for explorering the area which we really enjoyed
Review 91:There was nothing not to like
Review 92:I liked everything about this hotel, it is a very beautiful place, wonderful grounds to walk the dogs in, the rooms are spacious, clean as a whistle, and well decorated, the staff are polite and look after you with an old world charm that is long gone in other hotels, I will definitely be going back sometime.
Review 93:Dinner quite expensive. Shame there was no pool or jacuzzi .
Review 94:Setting- beautiful. Walk to the river and woods. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful large room. Comfy bed.
Review 95:Help yourself buffet breakfast on sat morn had been left in situ without being replenished for much to long .
Review 96:Super rural location . Plenty of area's for long walks in grounds . So peaceful .
Review 97:Slightly difficult to find (sat nav sends you the wrong route)
Review 98:Great location Lovely grounds with nice walks lovely rooms Great breakfast (didn't try the evening meals)
Review 99:Lack of soundproofing in the bedrooms. Repetitive music in the dining room. We disliked very little!
Review 100:The food was very good. There were no children. All the staff tried extremely hard. The fishing was an added plus. The gardens were outstanding. This is a delightful hotel for a peaceful and restful country break. We will certainly return.
Review 101:Trying hard to find something, maybe some different music each evening. Having to go home.
Review 102:Absolutely everything!! This is a hidden gem.The staff were helpful and friendly. Our room Forget Me Not was big and bright. Mark's cheerful unobtrusive presence ensured everything was run smoothly, we especially enjoyed the tour of the kitchen garden. Cannot wait to return. Food was superb.
Review 103:Leaving!
Review 104:We liked everything. It is a haven. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The whole place oozes charm and is most relaxing. This was our second visit there - this time without our dogs so we missed them walking down to the Otter River. We've promised to take them the next time!
Review 105:Was very annoyed to find that when I made our reservation the total cost of all rooms and meals was immediately taken from my credit card. I was led to believe only a reservation fee would be held. Disentangling the final bill was very complicated!
Review 106:Very comfortable, excellent food and super location. Dogs are very welcome though access to hot water to wash them would have been extra appreciated.
Review 107:The room we had was Fir in the garden rooms and it was very hot. Unfortunately we booked last minute and arrived to find out there was a prom and wedding on so was very noisey. Which wasnt ideal with a 6 month old baby. Would go back though on a different day as this was just bad luck.
Review 108:Clean room, newly decorated. Comfy bed. Good breakfast with fresh local produce. Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff.
Review 109:Our only complaint was that our room was very tired and 1990s. Although pristine the furniture was definitely tired and quite old fashioned, with flowery curtains and a rather boring wall colour. Compared with the rest of the hotel that was a little disappointing.
Review 110:Almost everything - the hotel is in a stunning location and the service was impeccable. Breakfast was a feast in glorious surroundings and the outside patio area and gardens were beautiful.
Review 111:The fixtures and fittings in the bathrooms are unusually cheap and some decor could do with updating.
Review 112:The gardens and outside areas are beautiful. The rooms are quirky as you would expect for a building of this age. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 113:We were offered an upgrade on arrival at the Hotel and having inspected the room we decided to take it at a modest extra cost.We were not disappointed. The room and its's facilities were excellent in every way.Breakfast was good too.
Review 114:Excellent attention and service by the Staff. Good food!
Review 115:Everywhere too warm by far.
Review 116:Peaceful and homely. Food very nice indeed.
Review 117:The attention to detail from the staff was great. Also food was delicious and rooms newly refurbished.
Review 118:The room was fantastic. The staff very friendly. Food superb. Can't wait to stay there again.
Review 119:The food in particular was really excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful
Review 120:No wifi in room
Review 121:Great location and setting, Lovely clean comfortable room, Lovely breakfast.
Review 122:WiFi not available throughout the hotel.
Review 123:Excellent location and room very clean. Staff excellent very attentive.
Review 124:Wifi availability was poor
Review 125:The atmosphere and comfort
Review 126:very cold room
Review 127:Superb welcome.
Review 128:Distance and traffic for which the hotel cannot be blamed !!
Review 129:The relaxed atmosphere and the grounds of the hotel
Review 130:Efficiency and friendliness of staff.
Review 131:Greta value for money. Beautiful setting even in the rain.
