Reviews for The Slaughters Country Inn

Review 1:Brilliant location and first rate accommodation especially with our Guide Dog puppy who also had a great time.Staff were so friendly and made the stay extra special.

Review 2:Bathroom too small, Sat on toilet and couldn't shut the door. Bath should be taken out and shower room created for more space. Leak in bathroom and some decor needs updating, carpet marked.

Review 3:Location and suite was lovely with great view

Review 4:We were made to feel welcome. The staff were unobtrusive but there when needed. Dinner and breakfast were excellent - all in all it was a most enjoyable stay.

Review 5:The email offering the extras I could have had in the room, chocolates champagne etc ( as it was my husbands birthday) was sent 2 hours after we checked in which was a bit late!

Review 6:Lovely place, lovely staff

Review 7:Had a lot of trouble with the Wifi, some of it was my fault, but they couldn't get my laptop working. the bar was dead at night, no atmosphere, suppose that's not their fault though.

Review 8:Liked where it was situated. The room we had was fabulous, like a small bungalow.

Review 9:Nothing

Review 10:The cottage was roomy clean and comfortable. The restaurant had a good selection of excellent food and wine, staff were helpful and very well mannered (this is sometimes difficult to find at Xmas)

Review 11:Paid cash, an extortionate £10 for two pints of lager, and two further drinks the following day; only to find them all detailed as chargeable on checking out. In the dining room, the wine is overpriced by at least 20% compared with similar hotels.

Review 12:Modern cottage style rooms well appointed

Review 13:The whole atmosphere from the welcome to the good bye were excellent. The staff were very friendly and so helpful with nothing too much trouble for them. Very comfortable Inn. We will be back.

Review 14:No real dislikes, like most places away from the main stream drinks etc a little pricey but not as bad as some similar places (apx £1 to £1.50 dependant on drink) above the average in Bourton 3 miles down the road, also the need to either drive or taxi to find alternative pubs/restaurants etc. is a bit of a pain but not a deal breaker if the tariff is right.

Review 15:Lower Slaughter is peaceful and very picturesque with the stream meandering through to the old mill, the inn itself is a beautiful old building with all the usual quirks for a property of this age (the odd low doorway and sloping floor etc.) the open log fire in the bar was greatly appreciated on the chilly December nights, the place was clean and well kept/presented, the several members of staff we came into contact with were all pleasant and very helpful, my wife and the friends who accompanied us are not keen on the milk sachets/pots that are a standard feature in virtually all hotels, mentioned this to the front desk and fresh milk arrived at he room doors within minuets. The breakfast was excellent quality but may be a little light for the healthier appetite, topping up on unlimited toast etc is always an option, one review I read mentioned an additional charge for poached or scrambled eggs with the breakfast, you have the choice of any type of egg with the full English at no additional cost, the additional £2.50 is for scrambled of poached eggs on sliced fresh salmon, we ate out at night so can't comment on the main meals, We booked/stayed on a reduced/deal tariff which made it good value and would return again on a similar footing, I believe with the isolated location and the need to either drive or taxi to surrounding areas to find a little more variety makes the normal tariff a little steep, we did however have an excellent visit.

Review 16:The location, open fires, relaxed atmosphere, terrific food, comfy bed. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended - I'll be back!

Review 17:A skip was collected from under our window early on Saturday morning ? And some hairs were in the wash hand basin

Review 18:The room was clean and the staff gave us a lovely warm welcome.

Review 19:One of the staff in the pub was quite rude which spoilt our dinner experience. The room needed attention to detail . Little things like loose door handle. No face washers, shampoo but no conditioner provided, broken body wash bottle leaking on the shelf.

Review 20:The location was fabulous. The breakfast in the restaurant was wonderful as were the staff.

Review 21:Rates for the rooms are a bit high.

Review 22:Lovely location and excellent service in this cosy/warm feeling Inn. Perfect stay if you are looking for an authentic and relaxing getaway.

Review 23:Very dusty. Someone needs to clean the rooms better No air conditioning. Very hot in room, bar, and dining room. This was in November

Review 24:Very nice room

Review 25:We didn't think it was very good value for the money , and staying for 2 nights the menu wasn't very varied, but the food was very good, just not worth the amount charged per night.

Review 26:We liked the situation of the hotel, and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 27:Slightly misled by the website - I wrongly assumed from photos that if you booked a superior room, which we did, that you would have a roll-top bath in the bedroom. We did not - bit disappointing but room was nice. Not enough seating in bar area - not relaxing. Service there a bit slow and bar counter was always full of dirty glasses.

Review 28:Friendly staff, high quality food in restaurant. Overall room was comfortable with wonderful views. Lovely surroundings to walk in - a treat to have cows in the field next to the car park. A real escape from the city.

Review 29:The drinks in the bar were very expensive

Review 30:We were upgraded to the cottages which was a real treat - so quaint. Lots of country walks nearby and a relatively easy walk to Bourton on the Water.

Review 31:We loved everything, but we felt the menu for evening meal could have been better. But the quality of the food was excellent!

Review 32:Loved our room, it was superb! We stayed in cotton hall, had lovely views and a wonderful roll top bath. We felt so special! The staff were lovely, and the breakfast was great. Had a great time! We would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing break. Well worth the money! We didn't want to leave and would like to return again one day!

Review 33:There wasn't anything to strongly dislike. It is an expensive hotel but you pay for the exclusive location.

Review 34:The location is perfect, we really love Lower Slaughter. The hotel has a lot of character and our superior room was large with a beautiful roll top bath in the bathroom.

Review 35:The facilities were beautiful and loved the updated rooms and bath. All the staff were very polite and helped us to fully enjoy our stay. Would love to have stayed longer!

Review 36:I was in a ground floor room and there was quite a lot of noise from above. The food at dinner was nice but not good enough to warrant the prices charged. Found it slightly irritating at breakfast that my coffee just came as a single, small cup and I had to keep asking for refills. A cafetière or pot would have been better.

Review 37:Characterful hotel in one of my favourite Cotswolds villages. Comfortable bedroom, large bathroom, cosy bar area and efficient staff. Breakfasts were good with nice fruit options and yogurt. Staff on reception were really nice.

Review 38:Lovely atmosphere, log fires, friendly staff and very good breakfast. Really pretty location within easy travelling distance of plenty of other places of interest

Review 39:Water pressure in the bathroom was poor. The shower even stopped a few times whilst using it. Squeaky stairs outside our room,we were awoken every time someone walked on them. It felt like someone was in your room. Being above the restaurant and kitchens, we could hear people downstairs. They weren't being particularly noisy and it wasn't really late, but the noise transferred upstairs easily. Being over the kitchens you could hear the fans. Overall we were very disappointed.

Review 40:Beautiful place. Great decor.

Review 41:Beautiful bathroom fittings and well fitted bedrooms. Perhaps the elderly furniture is a feature? I would recommend somewhat more solid locks on the cottages (Walpole) - I felt a little exposed with just a flimsy lock between me and the outside world.

Review 42:our only grip was our johns room was very noisy what ever was going on during the night was rattling and banging loud voices, they said it was under there room some ware, not good realy.

Review 43:As soon as we walked into reception you were treated like royalty, the staff all of them could not do enougt for you, a credit to your hotel, thank you.

Review 44:Liked everything about this beautiful hotel. Was the perfect location and the staff were very welcoming. Our room was so much more than we expected. Amazing bathroom. Took my Mum for a much needed break and she loved it

Review 45:A small amount of noise from the rooms above our otherwise perfect junior suite

Review 46:Fantastic staff, friendly and welcoming and faultless attitudes. A credit to the hotel.

Review 47:We endured a very noisy bedroom room on the ground floor. Rooms on the upper floor have laminate flooring over a traditional timber joist floor. The hotel encourages dogs. We spent the night listening either to a dog playing with a ball, people walking abound with lead feet, or central heating pipes expanding and contracting. We complained the following morning, and were told all the ground floor rooms in the outside blocks (around 15 or more I think) will have structural work done in the winter to solve the noise problems. Too late for us I'm afraid!! This is a dog-lovers hotel. Dogs are allowed in the eating area where we had dinner. One was sat on the same cushioned bench that someone was eating their meal at!! Yuk.

Review 48:Location is beautiful

Review 49:Thought it was a lot of money for a two night stay and we had to wait over 25 mins for two cups of Tea because a till was playing up

Review 50:Excellent location very clean and comfortable Lovely hotel

Review 51:For the first two nights we did not receive the particular room type we had reserved. In the end the problem was resolved satisfactorily.

Review 52:It is a lovely place in a lovely village: clean, new, excellent restaurant, and with a professional, attentive staff. They work hard to make everything top notch. Beyond the inn, there are many attractive walks in the area. We walked from Stow (downhill), to/from Upper Slaughter, and to/from Bourton, and did a cycling loop including Bourton. In booking we weren't sure we wouldn't prefer to stay in a larger town like Stow or Moreton, but in the end we appreciated the quiet pretty village of Lower Slaughter very much. We had a good stay and would return.

Review 53:Felt the restaurant was not value for money. Wasn't enough food for hungry travellers. The staff weren't quite as attentive as they could have been.

Review 54:Loved the location.Facility had good breakfasts.A very comfortable room.

Review 55:Fabulous stay on a midweek booking and wonderful breakfast. We were so pleased to be given an upgrade on the day to a lovely room with separate sofa and television and such a comfortable bed. They made our stay such a special time in the cotswolds.

Review 56:Location was excellent, near to many of the popular Cotswold villages, a better location you couldn't ask for. Staff very accommodating, great breakfast to set you up for the day.

Review 57:Our room was the smallest in the hotel I think (Warre) and the bathroom window looked out over the staff smoking shelter so we often had the smell of cigarettes in the room which was most annoying. The bedroom skylight overlooked the roof of some out buildings, so not a nice outlook at all. The towel rail in the bathroom didn't work and we reported it. The next day we turned the tap on to warm it up (assuming it had been fixed) and water dripped all over the floor. This was not rectified in the four nights we were there. TV reception was not very good. Overall not bad, but we would probably not choose it again, however, if we did we would make sure we secured a room with a view.

Review 58:Staff very friendly. Hotel clean and comfortable in very quiet and peaceful village. Food good, no continental breakfast and some items were extra (e.g. kippers, eggs benedict) though.

Review 59:Creaking floorboards in room from above and low beams and door frames around bar area.

Review 60:staff friendly and very helpful.food excellent and service quick and efficient. Location perfect.

Review 61:We did not spot any charge relating to pets when booking, although we are aware some hotels charge a fee.

Review 62:The beautiful picturesque position was perfect. The cottage was comfortable and clean, plus our much loved family dog accompanied us without any problem or overly restrictive rules.

Review 63:Kitchen ventilation system requires PPM, vibration isolation or further attenuation. Someone forgot to switch this off on first night and we suffered as the result, requiring earplugs (in a 5 star hotel?). This is not a budget venue and the simple 'sorry about that' comment from reception didn't attempt to convey any regret for the poor night experienced. Remaining nights were very good after the fan isolated correctly. Yappy dogs an irritant (blame the owners, not the dogs).

Review 64:Nice venue. Comfortable & warm with attentive first class staff.

Review 65:The Hotel, Staff and location is fabulous, coupled with two great days weather. We ate in the restaurant on the first night which was Fish special and glass of wine, excellent value. The second night we decided to eat in the bar again the food was excellent and the bar staff cant do enough for you they all were wonderful. Not forgetting the receptionists who are doing such a wonderful job and our special thanks to Karen, hope you feel better soon, lovely hair do.

Review 66:The Restaurant at the Inn was very expensive for dinner and there was no other choice in the immediate area u could choose from as alternative.

Review 67:The size of the room was good. The staff accommodated our wish to change rooms to a quieter location.

Review 68:The stuck on the wall tap in the shower. It not easy to use. Needs a flexible one.

Review 69:I liked the character, the linen, the surrounding, the politeness of the staff. Wonderful place to stay and enjoy the atmosphere of a quite Cotswold village.

Review 70:Wedding party took over bar in evening leaving no tables or seating areas for us! We were not informed of this and management should have retained tables for other guests

Review 71:Lovely grounds and interior, especially restaurant

Review 72:a bit dissappointed with the room, last time we stayed in the durnford which was lovely.this time we were in Evans which I didn't feel was five star quality. Also they charged 10.00 per night for the dog but I didn't see that when I booked. Drinks and food were very overpriced

Review 73:Restaurant manager excellent service. Reception and bar staff no problem.

Review 74:* Pretty well everything - from the cheerful welcome at Reception, a delightful room with the most comfortable bed ever, a wonderful dinner and a sustaining full English breakfast. We'll be back!

Review 75:Very courteous and welcoming staff. Great dining room, excellent and well presented food, wonderful quiet location. Lovely room with comfortable bed and great en-suite. Enjoyed a short Cotswold stay at very reasonable rates.

Review 76:A very small niggle - our room was above the bar where the conversation went on until 1.30am. It was a warm night with a need to keep the windows open, so sound carried.

Review 77:Idyllic country setting; very tastefully converted/decorated; good food; friendly staff; free wifi; superbly comfortable beds/pillows. We loved it!

Review 78:I selected the Lower Slaughter hotel for a family get together and booked 5 standard rooms. The rooms were excellent and very clean. Several had been upgraded, but whichever room you had everyone was happy with the accommodation. The hotel itself was lovely and the surrounding grounds excellent with plenty of tables and chairs in a peaceful setting. We all dined in the dining room in the evening. The food was very good value for money and the staff very attentive. Breakfast was served in the dining room with a good choice. I would highly recommend and will be returning soon.

Review 79:While all the staff members were very helpful and friendly, it felt quite short-staffed. They were unaware of our requests for a twin room and a double room with a cot (which we made through Booking.com and we had to help the receptionist separating beds - as there was no housekeeping staff available) and the bathroom bin wasn't emptied when we arrived in one of our rooms. There was no conditioner bottle in one of the rooms, and when we asked for one they said there was no stock.

Review 80:Beautiful building and lovely location. Good breakfast and great restaurant for dinner. Friendly staff.

Review 81:There was nothing we did not like.

Review 82:Every aspect of our stay was excellent, staff were very accommodating and friendly, the room was comfortable and clean. The restaurant provided both formal and relaxed bar-room food. The breakfasts were excellent. The location of the hotel provided relaxed surroundings.

Review 83:Our room whilst spacious and comfortable was a little noisy due to there being a room above us - improved sound insulation would help

Review 84:Hotel location is perfect for exploring the Cotswolds.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Both evening meal and breakfast were of the highest qualty

Review 85:We thought we were booking 5 star quality. We know nothing about 5* Inns! Maldescription by Booking.com We had a dreadful dinner and poor breakfast -they have no chefs? No hand soap in room One television didn't work

Review 86:location good.

Review 87:Nothing really. It's slightly off the beaten path so it's about half a mile walk after you get dropped off by the bus, but it was totally worth it.

Review 88:The overall atmosphere and location. The inn itself and its surroundings. The room was comfortable and so Lord of the Rings cottage-cute. The food they serve downstairs were amazing - both breakfast and dinner. And the staff was nice, friendly and helpful. The whole experience was peaceful and relaxing.

Review 89:People who worked there were especially nice & helpful. Great hospitality. Warm & inviting atmosphere CLEAN and very up to date rooms & baths--claw foot tub & glass shower. Great location.

Review 90:Little choice of restaurants in the immediate area. Narrow menu to choose from in the pub. Was unable to connect to wifi in my room due to poor signal.

Review 91:The hotel is located within a quaint, picturesque hamlet, very close to the village Bourton on the water where a good range of restaurants can be found. Breakfast was lovely with lots to choose from.

Review 92:Wi -fi was challenging at times in various parts of the Inn.

Review 93:The staff was OUTSTANDING and well-trained. Helpful and courteous beyond belief. The setting was idyllic and each day -- even the rainy ones -- brought pleasure, satisfaction and adventure.

Review 94:No elevator, but that's understandable for an older historic building.

Review 95:It's a beautiful place to stay in the Cotswolds if you want to get away from it all. Our room was gorgeous! I was expecting something old and tiny, but it was huge with its own separate sitting room. The room was really gorgeous and the bathroom was fabulous - super modern with the most luxurious bathtub I've ever seen in a hotel. We loved waking up to their excellent full English breakfast which included a yummy buffet with the best yogurt I've ever had, fresh fruit, and lovely homemade muesli and such. We were able to walk all the way to the next village through the public pathways that are near the inn. If you want a relaxing quiet time, this is the place. It's just a short ride to other villages, but if you want to avoid the tourist traps, this is worth the cost!!

Review 96:Bar area not very welcoming atmosphere, couldn't put finger on it but didn't fit it very comfortable to want to sit in there for long, let alone eat.

Review 97:Quiet & beautiful location, Welcoming staff, Good Food, Reasonable price

Review 98:Great location for many walks, beautiful garden setting in quiet town. We had a 2 storey room, lots of space, everything you needed. Great breakfast. Lounge area in main building. on site safe parking

Review 99:The room was amazing! The food was fantastic and the home made yogurt, granola and fresh fruit was the best we have ever had. Just had an amazing time - thanks.

Review 100:Only the above but that is not a reflection on the hotel . Please don't change a thing and please continue to accept children .

Review 101:Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location and within walking distance of Bourton on the Water. The staff were exceptionally good with my little granddaughter and were most accommodating . Shame about other residents who clearly weren't happy about having a young one within a few feet of them at dinner and breakfast . There are plenty of places they could go that don't accept children !! Do they not remember that they were little once !!!

Review 102:We were in a down stairs room. People could walk past and look in both the front and back windows. Unless you had the heavy curtain closes there was no privacy.

Review 103:Nice staff friendly. Food Menu a bit small for A la Carte dinner. Wine expensive.

Review 104:No bar staff or room service after 10pm on just one night which was a little disappointing.

Review 105:Everything is perfect at this hotel as long as you like to walk or have a car to travel to the other Cotswold villages. Rooms are very luxurious with everything being of a high standard and very clean. Idyllic location, just beautiful and perfect for the relaxing break we needed.

Review 106:There was a very lively wedding on and our room was directly opposite so the (truly bad) wedding music kept us awake till midnight :( Had to eat in the pub as the dining room was not available, nice food but not fabulous. Felt the cost should have been reduced for the other guests as it was expensive.

Review 107:Beautiful spot - lovely and spacious in the cottages and well finished though slightly bland.

Review 108:Food was fabulous, good selection of drinks but be prepared to pay the price for that!

Review 109:Loved the whole experience, our first time in the Cotswolds & not disappointed! Staff were polite, professional & helpful. Place was beautiful with nice seating areas & well presented rooms.

Review 110:When originally booking, the Saturday night prices shot up in price, else I would have considered booking 2 nights. I later found out it was very popular for weddings there, hence why the price tends to go up on weekends! It was an excellent hotel, but also felt that the choice of meals on the reastaurant menu was a bit limited and rather pricey, so hence, we decided to go out and eat else where - sorry! (It would have been nice to have had a simpler bar menu as a second choice for those not wanting to eat in the main restaurant, or maybe wanting room service.

Review 111:The location, the surroundings, the hotel, the rooms, the breakfast etc, was excellent.

Review 112:Everything was great except that there was a musty smell in the bathroom, which we did mention, but nothing was done to investigate the problem.

Review 113:Very spacious accommodation! We had two floors, so on our very rainy day we had a whole living area in which to wait out the storm. Nice decor, excellent mattress and linens, and I loved the sky-light in the bathroom.

Review 114:I booked this hotel to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and contacted the hotel to tell them so and asked if something could be done to recognize this on arrival and booking in. I was disappointed that nothing was done or said to acknowledge my request.

Review 115:Very attractive hotel, have wanted to stay there for years.Met almost all of our expectations.

Review 116:room outside and not in hotel. NOT explained in booking Up stairs when I am disabled no ability to explain at booking Old furniture in newish room Sink blocked which I had to fix. IE no checks prior to guest taking up room wedding at time we felt just not part of the service provision

Review 117:I would like the water should not separate from hot and cold in the bath room,it was so uncomfortable.

Review 118:Nice place for holiday, quiet, beautiful.Due to I forgot to remark add one bed for my son,I called them on that morning, they quickly upgrade my room to a big room.

Review 119:Lack of seating area when function on. Having to tell them to turn noise down at 3am when sleeping above bar.vegetables coming out too slowly after the meat

Review 120:Location, sitting out in the garden relaxing

Review 121:A little noise from deliveries at 8 am but I understand that these thing have to happen.

Review 122:Hotel was excellent, beautiful village, staff helpful and friendly. Rooms equipped with everything we needed.

Review 123:Breakfast was a bit small but really nice

Review 124:Beautiful location and lovely room. Had dinner at the Mannor across the roaf which we would highly recommend. Would stay again.

Review 125:Could have more choice on the menu for evening meal. Do not like dogs where people are eating food.

Review 126:Excellent location lovely surroundings. Very comfortable spacious clean room. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. Food was delicious breakfast 1st class. Very relaxing atmosphere. We love it!! Our second visit will definitely return.

Review 127:One of the glasses left in the room along with the complementary water was dirty.

Review 128:The room was a good size and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 129:The location is excellent. The staff friendly, helpful and professional. Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Food was lovely and the beer well kept.

Review 130:Our room overlooked the staff "break/smoke" area. For complete privacy, we had to close all windows. This wasn't a huge which issue except it was summer, a little warm and there isn't central air (not necessary). No other complaints.

Review 131:The room was beautiful, quiet and well appointed. Food was incredible. We enjoyed our dinner in the pub both evenings which was just wonderful. The atmosphere was perfect. The town is just charming and perfect. Staff was excellent.
