Reviews for The Heathfield Inn
Review 1:The room we were in (room 1) was over a bowling alley which was quite load. However, the game being played finished before 22:30 (though not sure this is or would be the norm)
Review 2:Friendly staff. Good pub food. Nice atmosphere.
Review 3:Attitude of (presume) owner, when attending for breakfast asked for a further place setting for visiting relative. Although, I must say breakfast was good.
Review 4:Room was warm and relatively comfortable, although little maintenance around bath and bedroom window would have been very good.
Review 5:The proprietor met us on arrival; he noted my request and offered us a choice of rooms, one had a walk in shower and the other was more luxurious. we chose the former. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu offered a wide choice, the meals we had were excellent.
Review 6:very good hotel and location but it needs to be updated a little in the bathrooms and things like the shower extractor fan not connected to the lights if you need to use the toilet during the night they are very noisy. food excellent but breakfast menu should be displayed
Review 7:It was a bit noisy in our room until the pub shut, but not really an issue. The decoration of room could do with update. No fire lit in bar (disappointed) as beautiful fire place and it was wet outside...
Review 8:They cooked for us even though it was 9.30pm and breakfast was served quickly and all staff was lovely the bed was comfortable and huge.
Review 9:The room was very quiet at night slept like a log it only takes about 10 minutes to walk into the town 20 minute drive will get you to the seaside perfect location for me
Review 10:I thought the place was closed down when I arrived. Looked deserted. Room smelt. Kettle was dirty.
Review 11:Evening meal was superb. Breakfast was below average.
Review 12:Poster in my room saying breakfast was available to 10, went down at 9.20 was told I missed breakfast.... No apology given.
Review 13:Lovely Hotel in terms of facilties. Bed comfy, shower great.
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:Nothing was to much trouble. Lovely large room with big double bed and very comfortable. Eat there first night good food at a reasonable price.
Review 16:Not bad but generally rather dull and dated. For such an interesting looking pub, it lacked atmosphere and cheer. Given a room with no view and leaky taps
Review 17:Food was good. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 18:This is s very comfortable inn with nice facilities, good restaurant, friendly staff who are very helpful. The food is nicely presented and reasonably priced
Review 19:Had a lovely 3 course meal when we arrived . The staff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable but a bit dated . Nice breakfast in the morning .
Review 20:Charming ambiance. Very friendly service. Excellent menu with wide variety of homecooked foods, tasty and well presented. Came in tired from our flight from Italy, then the car rental process and the stressful drive of 3 plus hours, but wonderfully received, well fed and a comfortable room with queen bed, en suite facilities in a 1500s thatched roof inn all made for a good experience. Note that there is no lift but not surprising in this type of inn. Parking was ample, not always the case inthese parts. The wifi was good. Breakfast was both cold cereal and cooked to order full English breakfast. But the star of this show is the beautiful building of old stone and timbers and country warmth.
Review 21:I was unable to get into my room until 3.00 p.m. of the first day of my stay. The shower screen was not wide enough. Therefore the bathroom floor got wet every time I showered.
Review 22:The food was really good. Good sized room.
Review 23:Nothing to dislike.
Review 24:This hotel is a real find, fabulous building and a lovely big room with settee and armchair, so many hotel rooms these days only have one chair even in a double room, and a spacious bathroom which actually has room to put your stuff, not like so many bathrooms these days that have no shelving of any kind. Breakfast was very nice and the evening meal of roast of the day (pork) was absolutely delicious. Could not fault this hotel and Carlos was very welcoming. Will be returning when next in Honiton.
Review 25:Whilst sitting on one of the garden bench/tables it collapsed. One of the legs had snapped. I fell to the floor, spilt my drink with part of the table on top of me. the couple who sat beside me were very supportive. Although i was shaken I was not injured. I was disappointed that the manager/owner the next morning did not even ask how I was displaying a complete lack of concern.
Review 26:Good sized bedroom, clean and functional. One of the best pub meals i've had.
Review 27:The whole place looked tired. Bedroom was overbearingly dark (Mahogany furnishings not helping) and bathroom shaving mirror light not working. This meant that the extractor fan ground noisily into the night for 25 mins each time the main bath light was switched on. For a 4 poster room and therefore paying a premium, these things matter.
Review 28:Only suggestion would be that the bathroom could do with renovating as it is a bit dated- very good shower though.
Review 29:Friendly staff and very comfortable bed, a real homey feel. Lovely country b & b, would visit again. Nice breakfast as well and very good internet connection.
Review 30:Location is a little strange to approach, but once arrived, no problem at all. A small coffee table would have been a great asset, or any other sort of table, or place for setting papers, computer, &&&. Bath is very high and deep and some sort of grab rail could be very necessary for some people.
Review 31:Large room. Masses of closet space and drawers. Clean towels daily. Very spacious bathroom. Totally clean.
Review 32:The toilet did not flush and the only way to dispose of poo was to pour water via the kettle plus constant dripping at night, rooted to relief manager
Review 33:Space and comfort of the bedroom and very quiet considering above pub bar
Review 34:Was quite noisy the one night we stayed. Noise from the bar underneath kept us awake quite late. May have been a one off occurance, and we don't think it would put us off going back.
Review 35:Location, staff, breakfast, and service.
Review 36:The used, verruca plaster in the shower soap dish - we left a note for the cleaner, the note went but the plaster didn't. The shower head and shower area - they were dirty. The landlord who was grumpy, uncommunicative and inhospitable. The atmosphere which was uncomfortable. The bed - it was comfy but it was two twins put together so bad news in the middle. The towels - clean but old and frayed. No breakfast menu - you have to ask and the response is 'well, what do you want?'.
Review 37:The location was where we wanted to be. It was quiet. Lots of parking. The room window could be opened properly.
Review 38:Nothing at all.
Review 39:Everything! The four poster bed room is huge! And comes with tea and biscuits :) , there is everything that you need for a night or few nights away. The staff were super friendly and we had a meal in the evening in the pub downstairs which was very nice indeed and very well prices. I recommend the cod and chips!!
Review 40:Lovely old thatched building. Our room was very large with a 6' bed. The staff were clued up on gluten-free food (I'm a coeliac so must have it) and even provided gluten-free toast with breakfast.
Review 41:The rooms as such can do with some maintenance. One of the rooms we booked was missing the luggage bench. Having said that the good room size and friendly staff can make me come back again.
Review 42:The room size was very good and nicely decorated. Good location. Friendly staff. The thatched roof style of the inn was beautiful.
Review 43:I did not like the fact that you had to ask for a hair dryer, they are not supplied in the rooms. Nor was shampoo or conditioner supplied.
Review 44:I liked the friendly staff, good drinks and an excellent roast pork dinner.
Review 45:The mattress was uncomfortable, unfortunately it dipped down each side with a lump in the middle. Probably needs replacing
Review 46:The hosts, they remembered my last visit and were so kind and hospitable
Review 47:We booked two nights with our son and his fiancée to attend a wedding. Both rooms were comfortable and well equipped. All staff were friendly and helpful. Food, both breakfast and evening meal, was excellent.
Review 48:Great surprise with the live Jazz entertainment on Tuesday evening - I will try to plan around the last Tuesday of the month for my next trip.. Food very good and reasonably priced. Carlos and the team make you very welcome.
Review 49:Location for us was great as we were visiting family in Honiton. Lovely Country Inn, albeit in middle of a housing estate. However once inside, the charm of the Inn takes over. Lovely place & Carlos is a great host.
Review 50:My daughter and I were going to a Family Wedding, not too far from the Heathfield Inn. We had everything we needed. Food was lovely, staff very friendly and the bed was very comfortable. What more could you want!
Review 51:Not a bad experience at all but the Wi Fi needs to be stronger.
Review 52:Nice people . Loved the dog..i was missing mine so to be greeted by a dog for me is wonderful . The locals also at the bar were well behaved.!
Review 53:everything,bed very uncomfortable ,old worn mattress décor and furniture very tired needed updating, bedroom dirty, bathroom filthy, plug on sink broken , shower held on wall with sharp screw, not secured, no hot water, breakfast minimal, and badly cooked , staff unfriendly, unhelpful and not well presented .
Review 54:leaving
Review 55:Open fire not lit on coldest night of December. Mouldy shower curtain. Flashing Christmas lights outside bedroom window.
Review 56:Excellent full English breakfast
Review 57:Would have liked a printed breakfast menu to choose from and some fresh fruit would have been nice.
Review 58:Welcome and comfort but the entrance to car park was dark and not easy to see. could do with an uplighter to the signboard at the entrance. Very large room and very comfortable. easy access for us and dog and dog made very welcome with no extra charges which is excellent.
Review 59:We were not informed that breakfast finished at 9am on a weekday. I did not expect a bed and breakfast facility not to serve breakfast after 9am. This was disappointing.
Review 60:Badly needs up grade bathroom very old, plus. Out dated pine in bedroomn. Owner not very talkative/ friendly.
Review 61:Food good lovely well cooked breakfast
Review 62:The man that owns this place is so rude and unhelpful. He also accused me of lying, when in actual fact he lied. Told us we could have the key early if room was ready, then totally denied he said this and accused me of lying ! Avoid this place
Review 63:The pub was very pleasant but it seemed to be located within a housing estate and this made it a little difficult to find in the dark and rain. However the instructions as to how to get to the pub were very good.
Review 64:We had an excellent evening meal and we were lucky enough for our visit to coincide with the monthly traditional jazz concert, which we enjoyed thoroughly.
Review 65:Back up heaters worked once then cut out seemed like they were set to do so x2.
Review 66:Honeymoon suit one of the best rooms ever rented.Good b/fast lovely bar/dining area, decent size car park friendly helpful staff Look out for Star the yettie! I mean dog.
Review 67:I was not expecting a lot when I booked here, but it was superb from the moment I arrived when I got a friendly welcome. Nice quiet room, good facilities, comfortable bed a excellent wifi. Pub and food very nice and the breakfast excellent quality. Easy walk into town as well.
Review 68:It would be nicer to have had a hairdryer in the room instead of having to ask for it. If that is the only fault, they are not doing too badly.
Review 69:The place was incredibly clean compared with a lot of 5* hotels I've stayed in. The staff were very friendly which is important when you are travelling alone. The menu was basic pub food, good all the same, but breakfast was fab.
Review 70:Plenty of light fittings but all fitted with half a candle power energy saving bulbs. Difficult to read by.
Review 71:A very large well furnished room with a King size bed, plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. A smart spotless bathroom with a shower and well lit mirror. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast. It was the old farmhouse, now in the middle of an ordinary housing estate. All no through roads so very quiet. How often do you have the front door key to a PH, just in case you are late back. If you are a group here is a pool table and a full size skittle alley
Review 72:The room was cold, radiators did not come on for long, and only early in the morning. An electric heater was provided but produced a very dry heat.
Review 73:Enormous bed, very comfortable. The food was exceptional, and a varied menu available. Location ideal for what we needed.
Review 74:Felt a bit under pressure while at breakfast as manager stood to close to us perhaps over attentive also felt rushed into choosing cooked breakfast would have prefered a menu to choose from.
Review 75:Big bedroom and bed and it was comfortable.Convenient to have meals good value food helpful staff.
Review 76:our bathroom needed some attentioin, mould on tiles, cold tap almost impossible to turn off fully. Petty details I know but you did ask.
Review 77:Easy access and quiet area good wholesome food. Good comforable bed.
Review 78:This was the second time we had stayed at this b&b,the first time being two years previous,,the only thing I can say that wasn't great about it second time round was the four poster bed,it needs a new matress(you roll into the middle)we didn't sleep very well at all,,needs looking into!!
Review 79:We booked the four poster room for two nights bed and breakfast, the room is very spacious and very clean, the breakfast is also very good.
Review 80:Room was in need of some TLC, shower head needed unblocking, toilet door wouldn't shut properly, you get the picture. Shame really as everyhing else was good
Review 81:Food excellent, staff very pleasant. Lovely place, just not the easiest to find
Review 82:Finding the location the first time was not all that easy (a problem made worse by the fact that the local council has allowed the brown tourism signs pointing to the hotel to become obscured by foliage)............................
Review 83:This is a comfortable place to stay with good food (both breakfast and evening meal were well presented and good value) friendly staff and nice location. We will almost certainly use it again next year :).........................................
Review 84:I stayed with at Heathfield Inn found staff friendly and helpful, Food quality and price good. Both our rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Have already recommended it to friends. Will stay again. And there is a large carpark.
Review 85:The food was maybe a bit "pubby"
Review 86:The size of the room with a settee and also an armchair. the bathroom was a good size as well. Plenty of sockets which is always a bonus.
Review 87:The low window in Room 3 where I banged my head a few times as we had put our suitcase on that window ledge. The furniture in the room needs a little TLC as drawer handles etc were very loose in their fittings.
Review 88:An excellent breakfast and served promptly
Review 89:Bathroom was terrible. Shower did not work properly, mildew, cracked tiles, rusty radiator, dripping taps. Room dark, bulb missing in one light, carpet badly stained. TV remote did not work. Generally a down at heel room
Review 90:Staff were helpful
Review 91:Breakfast - wasn't clear what you could order. Needed fruit and yoghurt to go with cereal. Not clear where to go to check in Restaurant is good value but food is mediorce A little pricey for the location and service
Review 92:Nice rooms Tea and coffee in rooms Large, well-equipped bathroom Comfy bed
Review 93:Food was adequate but nothing to recommend - gravy with my steak & ale 'pie' was cold therefore stodgy. Breakfast selection was sparse. Shower didn't have much power.
Review 94:Bed was comfortable
Review 95:The location was strange with a housing development built around it and the room lights were very dim
Review 96:The room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast one of the best I have had, the bacon especially! Very good value for money
Review 97:Slightly on the cool side.
Review 98:Comfy bed
Review 99:overpriced
Review 100:Location, comfort, good food
