Reviews for Home Farm Hotel & Restaurant
Review 1:Breakfast is only served until 8.30, which is too early. Returning at night the place seemed deserted and I had to walk from the car park up an unlit path. The second night I was there a mouse got into the bathroom and ran over my towels.
Review 2:The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. Breakfast was very good. It is conveniently located on the A35, and although a lot of HGVs use this road, the hotel is sufficiently well set back from the road for this not to be a problem.
Review 3:It was just ok nothing that stood out. Though there was room in the restaurant they sat us right on top of the next table with no thought of how either table would feel.
Review 4:The staff were friendly.
Review 5:Little Mould in bathroom corner didn't bother us but some people might
Review 6:Food was, bed comfortable and basic facilities provided, like shower gel & shampoo. Stuff was excellent, very friendly and helpful.
Review 7:lovely location with ample free parking. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Large bath & shower. A selection of different options for breakfast and good portion sizes.
Review 8:Our room was tiny, really only big enough for a single bed, with no space to store our cases, consequently we were for ever tripping over them. There was no teapot only teabags and a kettle; no fresh milk, only UHT, which is disappointing at the price charged. At breakfast another guest had a dog in the dining room, something we find unacceptable.
Review 9:We were welcomed by a friendly owner who made us feel welcome and who had contacted us earlier in the day to explain that he had no chef so an evening meal was not possible. The bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep, the toilet/shower facilities were good.
Review 10:Lovely hotel very comfortable staff couldn't do enough for you. We had to leave early on a Saturday morning so would have missed the cooked breakfast, but the owner laid on cereals, milk, juice etc which he didn't need to do and he was there early to see us off.
Review 11:The choices of draught beer are limited, but bottle beer is available.
Review 12:Home farm is a quiet country hotel with character in a small village with ample parking. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My room was clean and spacious. The food was standard fare, tasty and plentiful.
Review 13:Food poor. Smallest room we have ever stayed in! Not even 1 bedside table, because the room was so small.
Review 14:Not a lot - the food was poor! The accommodation was cramped. The best time was leaving ;it.
Review 15:Some rooms are in need of refurb. Bed very hard/lumpy.
Review 16:The manager was very helpful with specific needs we had. We were welcomed warmly. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 17:Most of the breakfast was fine, but it would have been so much better if they hadn't economised on the bread and marmalade. Please switch to good quality bread and marmalade.
Review 18:Excellent evening meal. Cosy and welcoming. Handy location for a stopover en route to Cornwall
Review 19:We thought we were in an old farm house in country side much to close to road...and our friends room was humid !! We were in a bed and breakfast in cheltenham much cheaper they made us feel at home very comfortable with little things like kleenex, shampoo, soap ect ..... We feel That you hâve a hotel for making money .....which is normal but its too expensive ...and needs to be painted up a bit !!!!
Review 20:That we were in devon
Review 21:All furnishings are very dated and cleanliness - particularly in bathrooms was poor and main reason we would not return. Evening meal very disappointing - returned main course and did not re-order.
Review 22:Excellent views and location good for our purpose but not near the town at all so car required. Friendly staff
Review 23:The mattress on the bed was obviously old, hard and lumpy. Wifi didn't work There was no outside light to the toilet and one had to go inside and find pull switch on opposite wall No shower curtain Dining room over drowded
Review 24:The evening meal in the restaurant was one of the best meals for a long time, well cooked and presented - excellent. Like the layout and the staff were very nice but over worked
Review 25:noisy closure of bedroom doors.
Review 26:friendy reception from male employee who hasnt worked there long. perhaps he could pass on his enthusiam to the other members of the team
Review 27:Unable to get a alcoholic lager from the bar. Only non alcoholic available. And we were woken two mornings by a local dog barking for long periods.
Review 28:The area where we were situated, was easy to get to some interesting places.breakfast was nice.
Review 29:Clean, Friendly staff and owner, Great food and choice, Great location, The room was clean, and had good views. The location is great, with plenty to do close by. Good off road parking
Review 30:Being situated in the front of the building the traffic noise could be rather annoying.
Review 31:Friendly, caring staff; accommodation spotlessly clean, excellent food.. Very welcoming, the friendliness of the owner and staff obviously rubbed off onto the rest of guests who were all very nice and made our stay very pleasant indeed.
Review 32:Small areas or cleanliness which could have been given more attention. Kettle had recent tea staines. Room door lock didnt locate into its lock properly and so door didnt always close properly
Review 33:Dinning staff were attentative and informative. Good base for travelling in local area
Review 34:nothing!
Review 35:Very clean and comfortable, great food. Gorgeous place. If you are staying in the main building there are stairs and no lift. If you have mobility issues, ask for a room in one of the outer buildings that is accessible.
Review 36:I think the cleaning staff needed more training, don't think the room had been hovered between guests and they over looked soap and shower wash renewal need a hand rail on the bath also a shower mat.
Review 37:The manager was to familiar for us and the breakfast was not very good we had to go and collect or remind the over run member of staff (who works very hard)for cutlery milk etc...
Review 38:The property was lovely and the owner was ver nice
Review 39:Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had trouble getting to a venue for a friends wedding and they were more than happy to help out with transport.
Review 40:Disappointed that the vegetable breakfast menu stated 'vege sausages' but these were in fact vege croquettes.
Review 41:Friendly and attentive staff, evening meal very nice.
Review 42:No water or glasses in room. Cups could have been cleaner. Not offered any more tea or toast at breakfast. Very small breakfast.
Review 43:The room was spacey with a nice layout. Hotel was layer out nice.
Review 44:not a serious complaint but felt the "dish of the day" could have been changed for second night. also the young waitresses should be better trained and supervised. very pleasant girl a clean overall should have been worn. found the bar and restaurant basic belying the great food
Review 45:excellent food - clean and comfortable bedroom and public rooms
Review 46:Things need a bug more TLC at this hotel, cleaning was lacklustre with bins not being emptied which with a small baby we filled on day one. Wall Sockets were loose and cobwebs were very obvious above the bed and down the walls.
Review 47:Nice friendly welcome, we had room 2 which was a mini suite so lots of room for looking after the baby.
Review 48:Would like comfortable seats in bar area, shower curtain or panel, grapefruit segments for breakfast, air-con would be a bonus
Review 49:Friendly staff, comfortable room, excellent bed.
Review 50:The fact that having booked so far in advance it wasn't picked up untill the day before arrival I had requested a twin room. The owner when my Grandson handed in his key on leaving was told nobody had paid when infact I had paid the night before.
Review 51:Staff were helpful perfect overnight stop to Cornwall.
Review 52:Bathroom problems. Washbasin slow to drain. No handholds in bath/shower. Very low pressure of shower. Dirt behind basin and toilet. Shower temperature difficult to control
Review 53:Very good welcome from owner. Old farmhouse style comfortable.
Review 54:Bed could have been bigger but that's teally being picky
Review 55:Really super place to stay very good location lovely staff and DELICIOUS food! Will def return thank you
Review 56:Not enough water pressure from the shower, probably because of the ageof the building, but i`m sure our plumber would sort it.
Review 57:We were greeted by a young lady who showed us all around, and explainedwhere everything was. She asked if we were booking in for dinner. Whenwe said yes, she asked if we would like a table set up in the bar so ourdog could be with. This happened with out any fuss. Although we wereaway from the dining room we were very well and efficiently lookedafter, and not left wanting for anything. Indeed part way through ourmeal the owner came to check that all was well. It was!!! We willdefinitely return.
Review 58:Having to leave!
Review 59:The kindness and homeliness of Home Farm; the willingness of everyone to go the extra mile(eg Jess going to fetch some of her own peppermint teabags for us): the lovely boat-bed in that luxurious room we had. The food was delicious and we had two lovely breakfasts and two very tasty dinners. Thank you to you all! We shall recommend you to friends and hope to come again ourselves.
Review 60:I booked this room very last minute and would totally recommend the Home Farm Hotel for a weekend stay - Our room (room 14) was lovely and the food was delicious with amazing presentation! We only stayed one night as we were exploring the area but would have stayed longer. The staff were lovely, including the owner who we had a great conversation with before we left.
Review 61:Nothing.
Review 62:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was excellent. Quiet location. Very clean and tidy premises. A small bar with local beers and cider. Would stay again when in the area.
Review 63:Wifi seemed flaky. No big deal.
Review 64:Friendly with a family feel yet clear aspirations to be a classy establishment. Greeted with a warm welcome and left refreshed and well fed. Would recommend.
Review 65:A comfortable and very clean room but we were aware of traffic noise during the night and think we should have asked for a room away from the front of the hotel. Otherwise no problems and would be happy to stay again.
Review 66:Very warm welcome and very good quality food. The room was absolutely fine for a one night stop-over but I think we would have asked for an up-grade if staying longer.
Review 67:Cold.... esp at dinner. Beautiful log fire not lit in dining room. I can't understand this on freezing winter days! Staff were cold too.
Review 68:Staff, food, wi fi, relaxed friendly
Review 69:Nothing!
Review 70:the staff could not have been more lovely, they went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The beds were so comfortable and the hotel had a friendly atmosphere and was beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and I would without doubt go there again!
Review 71:Although we don't expect too much from this level of hotel the room was a little small for the price paid however we appreciate lack of hotels in this area. Plastic table cloths are a no although I think this is 'good old west country tradition'!
Review 72:Above average quality of food expected from this type of hotel. Rooms comfortable enough for 1 or 2 nights and clean. Hotel has car park. Staff very helpful.
Review 73:nothing at all
Review 74:- beautiful building and décor - very clean and spacious bedroom - very comfy bed - hassle-free wi-fi - brilliant breakfast - free upgrade (as they were quiet) - staff helpful and cheerful - lovely bathroom
Review 75:Stayed in a room with separate entrance, no stairs to climb, parking next to our accommodation.Staff were very friendly and food was nice. It was a lovely stay.
Review 76:the room was cold when we arrived and particularly the bathroom with fairly inadequate heating The breakfasts were spoiled by the coffee which was only lukewarm and no great flavour.
Review 77:helpful staff
Review 78:Slightly disappoiting that on checking out we were told there was an additional charge for using credit cards.
Review 79:Staff were very helpful. Restaurant good and not too expensive. Owner was very attentive and welcoming.
Review 80:There's nothing I disliked about the hotel or our stay.
Review 81:I stayed with a few of my family and was very pleased with all aspects of the hotel. Very comfortable surroundings and decor. Excellent breakfast. Very clean .
Review 82:Not a lot! Only real comment would be that the dining room and bar area need some "character/design introduced" The food was godo but limited choice
Review 83:Staff friendly & helpful. Good food, well presented. Large room Location
Review 84:Room was cold. Room was noisy, fronting onto A35 which is busy all night. Toilet seat wouldn't stay up. Ran out of beer!
Review 85:Food was quite good. Very helpful staff.
Review 86:No complaints what so ever.
Review 87:The very friendly & extremely helpful staff. Lovely & most relaxing atmosphere & very comfortable room with a lovely view over the surrounding country side.
Review 88:Free wi-fi everywhere in the hotel except my room. Understandable as I was in an external building with thick stone walls, proberbly only my room and not a major drama.
Review 89:Happy to help staff and owner.
Review 90:Welcome on arrival, the personal involvement with guests by the owner, the ambience of the hotel and location, and the general comfort experienced with our stay.
Review 91:More of a B&B than hotel, bar very area and stock limited. Noise from adjoining room a negative. Food menu and quality average. Great old building filled with modern furniture.
Review 92:The whole ambience of the hotel, the extreme cleanliness. the friendly and courteous staff. The fact that the prop ritor visited every table at dinner in the restaurant. to ensure your stay was good. The view from the carpark was outstanding. A personal thing, I really appreciated the choice of gin in the bar! Breakfast was excellent ,a good selection and plenty of food.If you intend making a reservation ensure you make it in good time as the hotel was fully booked during my stay. Yes I will be going back.
Review 93:The water temperature in the shower was hard to control, and that is the only reason for the one "good" rating as all other are excellent.
Review 94:The hotel and food were excellent. Staff was friendly and efficient, and we were impressed that the owner took the time to speak to all his guests.
Review 95:I am quite a light sleeper and I did hear the traffic from the road which is fairly busy through the night, but it was not to bad the only comment to make really.
Review 96:The view was fab, staff were friendly clean room. Wifi good . Breakfast was good.
Review 97:Poor shower. Rooms could have been a little cleaner. Towels and sheets clean but room a little dusty.
Review 98:Lovely food. Nice furnishing. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere and child friendly.
Review 99:The friendly staff made my brief stay well worthwhile. Nothing was too much trouble, they were pleasant and were happy to chat. Rooms were clean and well furnished making my stay comfortable.
Review 100:Not really a full hotel. Lack of facilities was disappointing: no reallounge for residents - just a few chairs. Bar very unappealing - justsome long tables and hard chairs. No real garden - just a bit of patiowith some basic bar furniture. No real hotel service - on Saturday nightat fully 10:15 I was told the hotel was being closed and the staffleaving for the night and given a choice of either taking my part drunkdrink to my room or shutting the place up when I was ready to leave!Be warned too - this place is right next to the busy A35 main road. If your room faces the road, be prepared for a very noisy night if you need a window open.
Review 101:Staff terrific.
Review 102:Needed option of feather pillows
Review 103:Staff & owner all excellent and helpful. Quality of food and service very good. Location for visiting east devon superb.
Review 104:Mouldy shower curtain. Lack of vegetables even when I asked for extra when ordering. The waitress was obviously embarrassed when she served my food as she said chef says he can do you a small dish if this is not enough one floret and three small sticks of carrot was never going to be enough. My husband had a starter, I did not. We waited over 1hour for the main courses to arrive. The staff were pleasant but lacked awareness.
Review 105:Owner greeted us and was present in the dining room a nice touch
Review 106:It was a shame that the internal decor and soft furnishings were not up to scratch. The throw and cushion covers on our bed were dirty, although our bed linen was clean.
Review 107:The food in the restaurant during the evening and in the morning was excellent, including the service.
Review 108:There was nothing that I didn't like about Home Farm
Review 109:I only stayed one night at Home Farm. A very friendly welcome and ideally situated for travellers passing between Devon and Dorset. The room was comfortable and breakfast very good.
Review 110:on arrival friendly staff, time to relax before dinning first night breakfast was great and room. Advice on beaches near and detailed maps lent to us. This Hotel is on the River Cottage list for people like us who attended the cookery school, not to far in our rental car.
Review 111:Our room was facing the busy main road which was incredibly noisy . This meant we had a poor nights sleep and we couldn't have the windows open.
Review 112:The exterior and grounds are very well kept. The owners and staff are really friendly and polite. Excellent breakfast.
Review 113:I didn't like how cold the room was. Drafts came through the window's.
Review 114:I liked how friendly the staff were and the quality of the food.
Review 115:Very friendly and helpful
Review 116:Nice quite comfortable friendly run hotel , ideal stop over for our visit to the area .
Review 117:Uncomfortable pillows

Review 123:The staff were all very welcoming and the food and room were fantastic.
Review 124:All good
Review 125:Comfortable room and attentive staff, clean and good food.
Review 126:Poor shower facilities - no screen or curtain to prevent water going everywhere.
Review 127:proprietor was very welcoming
Review 128:Character of the property and very friendly staff
Review 129:We enjoy rural location and found the food excellent, equal to the best we have had in a fine dining resteraunt. Congratulations to Home Farm
