Reviews for Hallmark Hotel Cambridge

Review 1:A liittle noisy from the A14 nearby. The television channels were limited. Standard freeview would have been fine.

Review 2:Staff were helpful and friendly. It was good value on the discounted booking I had. Buffet Breakfast was good and convenient. Free WIFI

Review 3:In house restaurant was very expensive. I felt this was unnecessarily taking advantage of the out of town location .

Review 4:Staff were friendly and courteous. Location was very convenient for our family coming together from various places in the UK

Review 5:Was only an overnight stop so didn't have time to try any of the facilities

Review 6:Huge bedroom for our family - double and two singles plus plenty of space in room Kids menu in lounge bar.

Review 7:The thing that put me off was the dust in the room and because i am prone to allergies, i was sneezing quite a lot because the room hadn't been dusted but i did let the woman on reception know and she was very nice about it.

Review 8:The staff in the dining area were so friendly and welcoming and i have never been to a hotel where i have felt so respected and valued. They were amazing, especially the woman with short hair!!!

Review 9:Disappointed the pool shut at 8,pm on my stay as it was Sunday.

Review 10:Lovely big bedroom with enormous bed. Very clean throughout. Lots of choice for breakfast and all staff helpful and polite.

Review 11:Wheelchair user, and only disabled room available was charged as an upgrade, which they initially tried to charge us £25 extra for but came down to £15 after some haggling, also no shower/just bath. Also eat in the restaurant. Food took ages to come. Soup cold and bread was hard and stale. Rest of food not recommended. Tough gristly steak and undercooked root vegetables.

Review 12:Cost of eating and drinking at the hotel was expensive compared to the value of its B&B rate.

Review 13:Quiet comfortable hotel with a relaxing pool. Great value for money.

Review 14:Room was not clean at all, crumbs on carpets and furnishings, hairs all over desk! Stains on the carpet, mouldy bathroom, toilet was not clean! Very outdated style and very poor lighting! This was the first room, second room was as bad and also had a dripping shower!when I complained about cleanliness not at one stage did anyone offer to look at the room and all they could seem to offer as a free bottle of house wine! Very poor and it's supposed to be a 4 star! More like a 1 star! Very poor!! Expected better from a hallmark hotel! Plus I also saw the cleaner hovering in a cicular motion not actually cleaning the carpet properly! When I did ask for refund receptionist had to clarify with manager and all they could say was have you offered them a free bottle of house wine!

Review 15:Was able to get a full refund

Review 16:The first night in the restaurant was like an episode of fawlty towers.... only 1 waiter and the manager serving... the restaurant was full and at any one time only 2 people were eating. I asked for gluten free starter only to be given brown bread, the waiter did not understand!! My steak looked like it had been boiled, soggy thin chips when the menu stated fat chips... one of our party could not eat anything as it was either cold or burnt. It was part of our deal otherwise we would not have paid for the meal. Sat in restaurant for 2 hours and only had starter. children were waiting hours for their food. I also found out the next day the chips were not gluten free so consequently was not well that night. Luckily the next night it was an improvement, and the food was delicious...would I stay again not sure, maybe but not to eat

Review 17:We booked half board for a family of 4, a little surprised to find that did not include children and we had to pay for their evening meal. A few things were off the menu but dinner and breakfast were very good. It was a shame the pool didn't have a proper shallow end for younger ones but it wasn't a huge problem. Our main annoyance was, you don't use British sugar, the sachets were Tate & Lyle not Silver Spoon!! Your hotel is in a sugar growing area and yet you are not supporting that, we could not find a single reference to Red Tractcor/British food/food provenance in the hotel.

Review 18:The location was great for getting into Cambridge, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable, the pool, changing rooms, sauna and steam room were clean and pleasant to use, the restaurant, bar and communal areas were clean and pleasant, the food was generally good, lovely breakfast! Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

Review 19:Dirty bathroom! Found several hairs in the bath (which didn't belong to someone's head!) I had to clean the bath out myself before taking one! 4 of the 5 lamps in our room didn't work! Was 2 minutes late for breakfast which I had already paid for!!! but was told we wasn't allowed to eat anything because of them wanting to clear up! Not offered for a refund either! RUDE!!!!

Review 20:Loved the friendly welcome! Gym is really good and brand new!

Review 21:We had booked for our son to join us but when we arrived at our room there was only a double bed But when we spoke to reception they were very apologetic and quickly sorted him with a bed. They were very kind about it

Review 22:The staff were very friendly It was very clean and comfortable My little boy enjoyed the pool!

Review 23:The path between the hotel and the closest bus stop is dark, and difficult to find by ourselves.

Review 24:A reasonably-priced hotel near Cambridge. A walking distance to the nearest bus stop and there are frequent services to/from Cambridge. Plenty of car parking space.

Review 25:Quite a hot room at night in which the heating didn't seem to go down, but this is a very minor complaint

Review 26:Excellent breakfast. Brilliant staff. Big clean room

Review 27:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 28:The hotel was amazing staff. Even though it's near a busy road you wouldn't know once your in the hotel. And so easy to get to.

Review 29:Late arrival due to delay ,staff not friendly at all on reception desk, and made to feel that we were delaying kitchen staff because we had booked to eat..Ambience in eating area lacking , cold even though it was christmas. Tired decor in bathroom.

Review 30:The use of the swimmimg pool was exellent. Brilliant choice for Breakfast.

Review 31:Television channels didn't work great and not in order. When Tina wasn't working breakfast team weren't quite on the ball due to lack of leadership.

Review 32:Good location for us as family live close by. Plenty of space for parking.we had a business room with a comfortable bed and modern shower room. Swimming pool is a great facility, especially as not too busy and good for all ages. Special mention to Sarah in the reservations team and Tina who is the breakfast hostess- both very professional, friendly and display excellent customer service.

Review 33:Had to go three times to reception at check-in due to i) mix up with room; ii) need to have key recalibrated. Got there in the end, though.

Review 34:Comfortable bed, quietness of room (Executive King, in original part of the hotel, not the annexe), swimming pool and fab breakfast

Review 35:The restaurant waiter on Saturday evening overcharged us for wine. When i pointed this out that we had been charged incorrectly, my comments were met with a grunt, before a correct bill was given to me without as much as an apology... just another grunt as it was handed to me. Food in brasserie restaurant was quite tasteless for what we paid for it. Breakfast was a bunfight as area where you help yourself to breakfast is far to small when you have lots of guests stayjng and a huge queue formed which made it look like a school canteen

Review 36:Good friendly helpful staff generally apart from restaurant staff on Saturday evening, where attitude and manner towards guests could've been much better. Excellent golf course. Bar drink prices are what you wld expect to pay in London.... not Cambridge.

Review 37:Good pool/gym facilities. Breakfast also good. Cambridge centre a bus ride away but easy to get to. Helpful and friendly staff. All kid friendly so a thumbs up from all.

Review 38:Location is nice, but it's quite far out of town if you don't have a car (a taxi to Cambridge is 13 pounds).

Review 39:Staff were very accomodating and pro-active. Spacious room, nice swimming pool, and very good food, breakfast as well as a la carte. Quiet area.

Review 40:The staff were wonderful and couldn't be more helpfull , the facilities were perfect and we were even allowed to use one of the large rooms so that the children could watch a film ( which felt like their very own cinema ) we will be back and the staff should be commended for their attentiveness !

Review 41:The service was appalling in the restaurant (very slow - a 45 minute wait for a jug of tap water) and the food was a very poor standard - so much so that the hotel removed the cost of the wine.

Review 42:nothing

Review 43:the swimming pool and saunas could have been a bit cleaner the location is a bit far out from the town

Review 44:-staff were friendly and very helpful -wifi was very fast -breakfast was fantastic and everything was very fresh -the gym was very organized and clean Overall, the experience was great, really enjoyed our stay and had a great time.

Review 45:Check in took five minutes while the clerk were searching for the papers. The restaurant closed at 9pm The breakfast buffet was sort of minimum and there was a waiting line to be seated

Review 46:Hotel room and swimming pool

Review 47:The cost of room service but it is the same with all hotels. I would have like to seen ice cream on the room service menu. But nothing worth complaining about.

Review 48:The sauna, the size of the bed and the interior design of the hotel. The staff was helpful and polite.

Review 49:The bathroom was disgusting there was hair all over it. I tried to order room service and it took an hour and half to get food. No one would answer the phone on reception, I even tried phoning the external number but no one answered. The food was awful as well.

Review 50:The Location

Review 51:The staff were quick to resolve an issue with our room and were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel was a little further out than expected and our original room did have traffic noise but this was quickly resolved when we moved rooms.

Review 52:The restaurant in the evening had virtually the same menu as the bar (a restricted Beefeater type menu) There is a pub 3 minutes away offering a larger choice at half the cost The bar was freezing cold (confirmed by another guest who was about to complain too)

Review 53:We stay here regularly but there have been changes since it became a Hallmark Hotel On the good side a lot of the staff remain who are very professional, in the main The breakfast is good and varied but the fried eggs seem to have been cooked about a week ago. The bedroom was clean and the bed very comfortable

Review 54:Poor breakfast, arrived at 9am (breakfast finishes9.30) nothing much left and staff not interested in replenishing anything

Review 55:Good values that this time of year easy to find comfortable room and spacious lounges

Review 56:Took me a while to get checked in, was waiting a while as no one was at reception. A couple of times my keycard didnt work when I tried to get back into my room, this was rather annoying!

Review 57:Nice hotel, big comfortable bed, staff are friendly. Breakfast is very good and lots to choose from.

Review 58:too far from Cambridge facilities.Very little else around. It's just convenient for in transit travelers and anyone who wishes to play golf. If you want to go into Cambridge for sightseeing and entertainment then expect to take 1/2 an hr to get there.Regular bus service 4 pounds return and taxi will cost you 12-18 pounds one way. Booking sights deceiving as its 9-10 miles from Cambridge not 5 as indicated unless you can fly like a crow!

Review 59:swimming pool spa and sauna Good English breakfast. Comfortable beds..

Review 60:Very comfortable room , good breakfast & excellent facilities. My husband & son could play tennis & swim while I read my book! We then met in the bar for coffee before going into town. A very enjoyable break.

Review 61:we booked a executive family room but booking.com didnt passs it on to the hotel they only had us down for a double room.very upsetting and i will think twice before i use booking.com again

Review 62:staff did all they could to rectify booking.com mistake

Review 63:Breakfast.. my partner loved it but I'm a vegan could only have the tea?

Review 64:We work in the city this felt like a beautiful middle of nowhere relax spot

Review 65:I have stayed there many times and won t stay again. The place was dirty.. room had cobwebs, floors in corridors not clean, had to dust my chairat breakfast before I could sit on it. Had to pay up front ... now Iknow why ...it has gone downhill since Hallmark took over.

Review 66:It was just two beds pushed together but it was still comfortable

Review 67:The stay was amazing!! Everything was very convenient! A cab to central Cambridge was only £12

Review 68:Few things came across a bit slipshod, e.g. forgetting room service orders, forgetting we had late checkout (even after confirming).

Review 69:Good spa facilities, decent quality room

Review 70:I did arrive slightly early, and the room wasn't ready so was told I could wait in the bar or used the facilities, I said would wait in the bar, and the receptionist said she would come find me when room was ready. after 40 minutes I went back to reception as nobody had come to find me, to find out my room had been double booked, so had to change room, I'm not sure how was double booked as was still showing rooms available on the website.

Review 71:Hotel was nice, bar staff were lovely and the beds comfy.

Review 72:The hotel appeared very dingy, and in need of refurbishment. The service in the breakfast room was not good, we were given cups with big chips in and the plates were stone cold, when I asked the chef if there were any warm ones he just shrugged his shoulders at me. The rooms were very small, not enough lighting and the bathroom was ridiculously small. This was supposed to be a newly refurbished Double business room. Very disappointed and will not be returning. Also bar prices extremely high for a hotel

Review 73:Very little.

Review 74:After booking the executive suite was shocked the room was dingy not very inviting no outside view just the roof also the furniture needs updating the room was far too expensive for what you get. The prices for snacks was extremely expensive drinks not too bad but there was 4 of us rating a snack each had a drink cost was fifty pounds. The breakfast plates were cold as was some of the breakfast was.

Review 75:There were a few problems with service / food on two of the evenings we dined in the hotel but we felt listened to by management and were happy with the resolution.

Review 76:Quiet room, comfortable bed, great breakfast, good location. The management's concern for positive customer experience. We will be back!

Review 77:Lacked atmosphere. Gym very crowded; shower and hairdryer not working properly. Dress code in the restaurant is ridiculous. Stained seats in bar and generally needs a bit of tlc

Review 78:Staff were friendly and room was comfortable.

Review 79:We tryed 3 times to check in only to find our room was not ready , then when it was we were given single beds it was very busy staff not on the ball with service very slow bar staff not knowing what type of wines when asked for me having to go and get one from restaurant so overhaul bit of a bad stay when booked for a weekend away withy wife ,I have to say Kerry was very helpfull .

Review 80:Facilities

Review 81:Short staffed/Long wait in bar and resturant. 1 hour 20 minute wait for bar food (told 45 minutes). Breakfast time - used plates left on most tables - not enough staff to clear away.

Review 82:Good leaisure facilities - but have a lot of outside members too so gym can be too busy at times. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 83:Breakfast/evening resturant disorganised but friendly.

Review 84:Friendly hotel, close to Cambrige by frequent bus, breakfast food really nice good choices, nice bar that does food, gym friendly with nice pool and jacuzzi

Review 85:only recently acquired and restaurant not got its act together concrete building limited access to mobile phone and missed important call

Review 86:Bus to city from end of drive Staff on reception extremely helpful

Review 87:We had to have business class rooms as these were the only ones with walk in showers (required by members of our group). These rooms had all been recently refurbished. The shower rooms were quite small but spoilt only by the lack of a simple shelf (in the shower) to hold toiletries which meant that you had to store them on the floor.

Review 88:The Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. In particular Holly had a good knowledge of the area and went out of her way to make bookings or provide suggestions, maps and information. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The location was excellent.

Review 89:Restaurant for Dinner, restricted menu, and slow service, not enough staff for number of clients

Review 90:Facilities, comfort and Cleanliness, Breakfast was good

Review 91:Room had not been allocated correctly.Staff blamed Booking.com Info on guests was wrong so number of beds in room wrong. 1hr 30mins to sort it out. Room was tired, facilities were for 2 people not 3. On inspection the single "bed" that had been added, was a divan base with no mattress that had been made up to look like a low rise bed. Base sheet not tucked in as nothing to tuck into. Pillow was disgusting lump. Room service for snack food took one hour 40 mins, and order was incorrect and incomplete. Slept ok when arrangements rectified. In the morning main shower in bathroom did not work, breakfast was lack lustre, pastries were stale. Staff on front desk were helpful but without power to sort things effectively. Not worth the money paid. Not a 4 star experience!

Review 92:Nice hot chocolate drink.

Review 93:Long wait to be seated at breakfast. No bath in room, I would of requested one if I knew we might not get one

Review 94:Bus stop round the corner with regular buses to City centre.

Review 95:Room was filthy, blood on the bed sheets, watermarks on the taps, shower rail falling down, shower handle broke off. Appallingly bad hot chocolate. Really rude staff except for one young man on reception. TV didn't work properly and reminded me of something from the 90's with lines flashing across it. Grateful to the manager for giving us 50% off the room and taking off all the extras but not impressed by his promise to deduct the money from the cleaners pay check. That's a days wage! Not impressed either by the cleaning manager talking to the young man serving me and then being extremely rude when I called her out on it. Definitely will not be returning. Also didn't see any unlimited soft drinks which was promised for the children or any children's packs. No fruit at breakfast despite it being advertised.

Review 96:The bed was comfy. The room was huge. Extra nibbles included.

Review 97:Were given twin room when we had booked double room This being our 2nd visit never been given twin beds after 47 Years Marriage.

Review 98:Food was excellent Staff helpful

Review 99:Bathroom in very poor state - needing immediate refurbishment. Dirty tissues on floor. Not what you expect from an "executive" room. Breakfast service OK but dirty (already used?) crockery on table.

Review 100:Good location, efficient staff.

Review 101:Small Bathroom, low water pressure Room too warm No TV showing Football Room tv didnot even have freeview channels!! Breakfast buffet not kept fresh, tea served in a cup rather than a pot

Review 102:Swimming pool Real Ale

Review 103:The cleaning service wasn't very good and I had to ask for more towels altough we are 2 in the room.

Review 104:I heard about this village 20 mins away from Cambridge city center. I booked for 2 nights but my stay was pleasent I extended twice! There are 3 short walk bus stops that goes to Cambridge to shop or eat. Otherwise Bar Hill is so calm and this hotel is relaxing.

Review 105:Reception staff very ignorant, room was advertised as a king room and then told by staff at reception all rooms are standard??? Not very customer friendly.seemed preoccupied with other people when dealing with me. Small bathroom. Stuffy rooms, too hot n no way of controlling room temperature.

Review 106:The bar staff very helpful .The wedding was excellent . The breakfast was good but very busy.

Review 107:My reservations had been mistaking cancelled by hotel staff so I didn't get the room I had booked and paid for. No BBC1 in the room, ordered room service and it was cold. Heating didn't come on until after 6pm so we were sitting in the cold for 2 hours.

Review 108:I stayed here 3 consequetive weeks for work. Very little other choice available during that time. The Hallmark ranged from an acceptable £85 per night in a "king room" - actually little better than other rooms but with some brownies thrown in - to an outrageous £173 per night for a std twin. Tv was rubbish throughout with minimal non pay channels. Shower in one room was the worst Ive ever encountered...barely a trickle. During the 3 weeks there were 2 occasions of fire alarm going off in the middle of the night. Worst was that one morning when paying £173 per night there was no hot water. £173 for a cold shower....I don't think so. I told the manager I didn't expect to pay for that night and I did get 75% knocked off the price...vut not all of it. Hotel claims to be a luxury hotel...actually its not great. Not terrible either but vastly overpriced. I shan't be back.

Review 109:The staff were generally good.

Review 110:Booked as value deal and was ok at that. However would have been disappointed had we booked at full price due room furnishings even in upgrade room not remarkable, breakfast room tatty, no second cup of coffee offered at breakfast.

Review 111:enjoyable breakfast english and continental (except only one cup of coffee offered), nice swimming pool

Review 112:There isnt much to fault apart from I didnt sleep well and couldnt seem to get comfortable.

Review 113:The hotel is really nice, nice big rooms, nice big bed. There is free parking and free wi fi in the rooms. The staff are very friendly and there isnt much to fault.

Review 114:Had to wait an age to check in. There was only one receptionist on and yet there were a large number of people waiting to check in. The plumbing from other rooms was very noticeable at night.

Review 115:Good location with easy access to Cambridge etc. The staff all seemed friendly and helpful. Enjoyed using the pool. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Review 116:The food was terrible lack of choice very poor quality, and the breakfast being served up with plastic lids on the food was so unhygienic its was amazing!! We watched the chef top up the food with the newly cooked items going straight on top of the the old!!

Review 117:Location

Review 118:Fellow guests returning to their rooms in the early hours of the morning and slamming their doors - not the hotel's fault, really, as people generally don't seem to consider others so much nowadays

Review 119:The location, the swimming pool, the breakfast, the car park, the helpful staff

Review 120:There was confusion as to whether we were entitled to free breakfast. They lady checking us in said no but on checkout they told us that we were so we only had one breakfast in the 6 days we were there!

Review 121:Friendly helpful staff. We asked for 3 extra days and they managed to fit us in. Lift was broken on day we arrived but we were helped with our bags. Swimming pool. Close to bus stop to Cambridge.

Review 122:Being told on arrival that a large party had been given permission to stay until 2 p.m. and that room would not be ready until 3 p.m., despite booking request for 2 p.m. Location, on A14, not suitable to visiting Cambridge or local area. Race track.

Review 123:Fair value for money, very comfortable.

Review 124:easily accessible from the A14. standard of room was perfect for my needs and I like the option of having quiet bedrooms for those who are working night shifts. Good standard of food and menu choice for dinner

Review 125:Very hard bed, room too warm, poor breakfast (inedible scrambled egg), my room and that of teenage daughters were not adjoining,

Review 126:Good location, quiet rooms, large bed.

Review 127:No disabled facilities in the bathroom.Hotels are not catering for families with a disabled person in a wheelchair. Long queues at the breakfast buffet. The layout of the buffet should be changed for a smoother flow of guests.

Review 128:The spacious family room.

Review 129:The room was spacious and as we expected. The restaurant was full so we ate bar food - the staff there were attentive and I can recommend the club sandwich -delicious and more than expected; the hamburger was adequate.

Review 130:Good, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, location OK, internet worked properly, no "extras", staff helped printing docs, large Tesco within walking, 24hr tesco within walking, couple minor issues like no fridge... or air cond (heat/cold) no go, but generally v good. bed good.

Review 131:Staff were not very helpful and did not offer good client service they were more Fawlty Towers then 4 Star hotel.

Review 132:Spa facilities were certainly good to have available, facilities were tired but functional.

Review 133:Very disappointing food in Bistro. Sagging mattress and a strong cigarette smell from outside the room.

Review 134:Reception was good. Hotel was quiet. Pool area looked nice.

Review 135:Hard uncomfortable pillows!!!! Noise from the window when opened.

Review 136:Easy to visit family living in Longstanton.. Cheerful and helpful staff. Decor, cleanliness of the room, bathroom and bedlinen all excellent. Excellent size room.

Review 137:The only reason this property didn't receive a 10/10 is due to minor housekeeping issues (cobwebs which were visible when the chair was moved in the room) which I believe are down to the fact that the cleaning of the room was rushed so we could check in extremely early!

Review 138:We arrived extremely early (9am) to check in after completing a 100km walk from London. The Receptionist (Sharon) was wonderful. She arranged for us to us the shower facilities in the Spa followed by a breakfast which was on the house. She went above & beyond what was expected! After a lovely breakfast we returned to happily wait for our rooms & were fully prepared to wait till the 2pm check in but found she had asked for our rooms to be readied first so we were in our rooms by 10am. Our group had a fantastic experience at this hotel from the 1st class service & care from Sharon to the delicious evening meal & plentiful breakfasts! I would highly recommend a stay at the Menzies Cambridge!
