Reviews for Penallick B&B
Review 1:Paul and his staff were very friendly, and helpful, the bedroom and bathroom were warm and clean and the bedroom had a lovely view from both windows. The full Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cereals.
Review 2:We felt really welcomed when we arrived. Paul the proprietor was really helpful and lent us a local map. Good options for breakfast, only problem was we were given off milk on our second day. Really comfy bed and great location.
Review 3:No real welcome on arrival and we were only told breakfast times when we asked. Felt as if we were intruding in their daily routine.
Review 4:Comfortable bed, fantastic views, good facilities in the room. Lovely breakfast.
Review 5:As with most of Cornwall the network is rubbish but the hotel has wifi but it isn't the best and you may find yourself, like my lad sitting on the stairs or down in the lounge area to catch up! I didn't bother as that's what holidays are about, getting away from it all!!
Review 6:Had a brilliant stay at Penallick Hotel! Really relaxed owner Paul who really makes you welcome and he, with the help of his daughter (Beyoncé) :-) serves up a mean full English every morning if you want it!! Can't fault the place really at all, will be back!
Review 7:Beautiful quiet location, lovely views from bedroom window. Very warm friendly staff. Good breakfast. Dog friendly. Beautiful coastal walks to Tintagel Village.
Review 8:A lovely comfortable stay, but not for those seeking flashy decor. It suited us perfectly.
Review 9:Very friendly host, a good size room and lovely breakfast. Beautiful views!!
Review 10:coming home !!!!
Review 11:Wonderful relaxed atmosphere ! Paul was a very friendly welcoming host who made us feel very at home ! Fantastic sea views ! And excellent value for money ! Breakfast was a real treat We didnt want to go home ! But we do intend to return again one day !!!! so close to some beautiful places to visit. Many thanks for a wonderful holiday !
Review 12:There's nothin to dislike unless your super fussy and think you have booked a five star.
Review 13:Location, coastal path and stunning views of sunset within couple of minutes walk from hotel
Review 14:The location was fantastic with breathtaking views of the sea and coastline. The hotel itself was clean and had more than adequate facilities. The service was first class with the owner and his daughter making every effort to ensure our stay was an enjoyable one. We will definitely be staying again at the Penallick Hotel the next time we visit Cornwall.
Review 15:It was not an hotel, simply a B&B, no lounge bar or TV. I would have appreciated complimentary shower toiletries.
Review 16:Location remote, but on a beautiful coastline. Would go again to visit Tintagel and Boscastle.
Review 17:Bedding not ironed, bathroom door catch faulty door spring not working.toilet seat not fitted correctly room door latch loose and hit and miss cobwebs on ceiling, tops of light shades very dusty, garden untidy, and leftover food scraped off plates onto wall for birds to eat whilst we were eating
Review 18:The bed was comfortable
Review 19:could do with a lick of paint but rooms were being decorated while we were there
Review 20:the view is stunning , staff very friendly , coast path 2 minute walk
Review 21:We had a wonderful stay and loved the hotel. The gentleman who ran the hotel was really helpful and friendly. The breakfast was also first class. Value for money was second to none!
Review 22:Would have preferred more fruit with breakfast, and that not everything was fried in oil/fat.
Review 23:The view of the ocean. It helped that w had excellent sunny weather.
Review 24:interior very tired but understand it is gradually being re-decorated, lets hope cleaning of windows to see the magnificent view is included in this. A breakfast chef needed also.
Review 25:there was a slight musty smell in the porch area of the entrance , after going through the second set of door of the entrance the smell had gone
Review 26:breakfast was filling for the day ahead. Only 3/4 mile from Tintangel. Nice breakfast smell as you came down in the morning. Would definitely use again if in the area.
Review 27:Not worth mentioning. We would return again.
Review 28:Our host Steve was just the right amount of friendly, and was very helpful with the questions we had. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast plentiful - and they make a nice pot of tea! The other 2 staff (female) that served at breakfast were also very friendly and quick to serve, clear away etc. All the staff were friendly without being intrusive. Perfect
Review 29:There was abit of a smell to the place reminded me of an old persons home, no shower gel or shampoo or hair dryer.
Review 30:The view was amazing, the staff pleasant and the breakfast was lovely!
Review 31:Nothing lovely place
Review 32:Very comfortable room value for money the owner Paul was very friendly the tray in our room had plenty of tea coffee sugar and biscuits plus bottled water
Review 33:Single room tiny Kettle too large to fill from the sink - small point but it annoyed me that most of the water poured out while trying to extricate it from under the tap
Review 34:Great selection of biscuits, fantastic location
Review 35:I thought the location was spectacular.. and very convenient for visiting Tintagel and walking along the coast!! The property itself was very quiet and had a lovely, slightly retro (1970s) atmosphere. I also found the staff pleasant, but not overbearing.
Review 36:Everything was great!
Review 37:Best English breakfast we had throughout our tour of Cornwall. The location is great - you can take the fantastic cliff top walk (not for the feint hearted) into Tintagel or walk the road way (about 20 minutes). Room was clean, tidy and comfortable.
Review 38:Paul was an amazing host! Everything was just perfect: clean, comfortable, and close to Tintagel. The views were breathtaking! The breakfast (full English included) was delicious!
Review 39:On arrival car park could have done with some weeding, entrance porch was very dirty, reception area was also very dusty, so not a good first impression. Rooms were actually clean but needed updating. Breakfast was an experience!!! Cutlery and some crockery needed a bit of a clean before use!!! Boxes of cereal left open all day and the veggie option was beans, mushrooms and tomatoes.
Review 40:English Breakfast fine, but not much option for veggie breakfast
Review 41:There was no hair dryer as stipulated. The bathroom needs updating - mould on bath fittings. The mattress was uncomfortable-wires. Dog in room adjacent barking.
Review 42:The hotel is in a very quiet situation with views overlooking fields and the sea. The hotel provided a well-stocked tea and coffee tray, with biscuits. The breakfast was substantial and very good. Paul the owner was happy to provide an early breakfast when we had to make an early start.
Review 43:Uncertain state of bedding, matching duvet and pillowcases but no separate sheet. Otherwise, fresh comfy bed and bathroom spotless. Towel rail missing.
Review 44:Sea view over garden and field with cows. Proper full English breakfast. Friendly staff and secure motorcycle parking.
Review 45:Room was not cleaned no fresh towels or cups put in are room the whole stay lady serving breaksfast had long hair not tied up when serving food
Review 46:Owner was friendly
Review 47:Double bed was two single beds put together, very uncomfortable. Wardrobe shelf's fell, couldn't use then to put clothes on.They didn't make the beds.bathroom only had towels and we had to ask for toilet paper when it ran out.
Review 48:Good breakfast, good service
Review 49:i booked at short notice, needing an overnight stay whilst working at Tintagel Castle. Comfortable room, really fridndly and helpful host. I've already booked again.
Review 50:It's dated. It's not 100% clean. I understood the man (owner) is trying to get it right, but it's not working completely. We were glad to stay just one night. Hopefully he will get it right!
Review 51:The location was perfect.
Review 52:the carpet going off, the room was clean, but the house should have a good clean up and reniew.
Review 53:the view from my room, right on the countryside and sea.
Review 54:There were just a couple of minor things here and there, that if improved on would have turned this from great to excellent.
Review 55:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location was great. It was extremely good value for money.
Review 56:Couldn't get a twin bedroom, mattress not best, you can feel the springs.
Review 57:Position, but need a car, friendly owner, good breakfast, off road parking
Review 58:The property is a bit tired and shabby. We had trouble getting our cases into the room because the wardrobe was in the way. Also it's is a fair way out of town. Cash only payment a bit inconvenient in this say and age
Review 59:Good views and a hearty breakfast.
Review 60:The room got a little chilly at night, but this was easily taken care of thanks to the plenty of extra blankets.
Review 61:Paul and Lara were incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming, ensuring an excellent experience especially for a solo traveller like myself. The Penallick is in a great, quiet location conveniently situated minutes away from the coastal path and Tintagel. The breakfast was spectacular, too!
Review 62:Nothing too bad. Property could do with some TLC and has huge potential. Not the cleanest place we've stayed in but not the worst either.
Review 63:Hotel owner very friendly and welcoming. Good location with Sea Views Breakfast was fantastic
Review 64:We would have liked a bath rather than a shower Also as the weather wasn't very nice it would have been nice to have had an option of a evening meal.
Review 65:Comfortable bed warm room and Very good breakfasts. Paul the owner was Friendly as was his staff. Good value
Review 66:Paul was very friendly and he was always looking for customer comfort. Spanish lady working at this B&B very helpful recommending places to visit nearby.
Review 67:It's a family-owned and very well-located hotel. The room was simple, but clean and confortable. We had lovely walks at the surroundings and at Tintagel. Very good stay.
Review 68:Could do with a bit of a deep clean! The location from the town wasn't great for going into town, especially on a cold evening to go and get some dinner. The room and bathroom was in need of doing up but happy to stay in it for the price we paid. Saw a couple of other rooms which were nicely done up but understandably, probably for the higher paying customers!
Review 69:Breakfast was amazing. Location great for the coastal walks to Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand with lovely views. Owner was very friendly and helpful. The deal for two nights was very good.
Review 70:The network connection is not on tip top but we had a problem everywhere else with good signal. Even phone GPS had some big problems :(
Review 71:The place very nice and clean. The staff welcome and friendly. Definetely coming back there ;)
Review 72:The shower was a bit finicky to use at first and the bathroom mirror a touch too high for the vertically challenged, but those quirks are easily outweighed by the warm reception and value for money, so no problems there.
Review 73:The proprietor was very friendly and the hotel was excellent value for money. We enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 74:My only point would be that we could hear what was happening in the hallway very easily through our door, but we only used the place to sleep and catch breakfast, and as we were the last ones in the door both nights it wasn't a problem!
Review 75:The b&b is a very no frills type place, but for the amount I paid for 2 of us, 2 nights and breakfasts, I have no complaints. The location was good, a gorgeous view of the sea (when it wasn't typical grey March weather) and a short 15minute walk into Tintagel. Port William is also very close by which is great too. The owner was very friendly and flexible which is always a bonus.
Review 76:Paul, host very friendly and welcoming.Wonderful views of sea. Near tintagel. Quiet and restful. Breakfast was huge & filling. Tea coffee and biscuits plentiful. Rooms clean & comfortable.
Review 77:An overwhelming good experience. The hotel could do with more inside plants, and perhaps softer lighting. This is hair splitting for the price. It was great value.
Review 78:The location, owner, food, room, price.
Review 79:Fab hotel, rocked up fairly late to a warm welcome. Got a lovely large room, with complimentary biscuits and tea - always a winner! Not forgetting the beautiful view in the morning!
Review 80:During winter time bedroom should be warmed before guest arrival and breakfast room as well.
Review 81:The host is very gentle and nice, the breakfast is good and the position of B&B is perfect to start a 3/4 days trip around Cornwall: he suggested us some places to visit around Tintagel really worthy.
Review 82:The soap dish in the shower is rusty and should be replaced.
Review 83:Paul is welcoming, friendly and attentive. We were tired when we arrived after a very long journey and one of our group was feeling very sick. Paul helped her to her room swiftly leaving the tour of other facilities with us until she was settled. The building is lovely and although we could see that some work was still needed these minor issues did not detract from the comfort of our rooms, the stunning views, the delicious breakfasts or the general feeling of warmth, comfort and value for money. We will be back!
Review 84:A lovely welcome. A great breakfast. Nice and warm house with stunning views. Excellent value for money. A lovely owner who is a pleasure to chat too. A superb location. Nice big comfy reception room and a good sized breakfast room with a view of the sea. And dogs are very welcomed.
Review 85:Cleanliness in room could have been better and decor throughout bit dated but I think this was reflected in the price. Would have liked breakfast earlier than 8.30 but it was fine.
Review 86:Location, friendly staff, cooked breakfast included in price
Review 87:Bathroom needed replacing, old and dirty. Everything basic, needs more attention to small details and presentation to make it more comfortable and appealing, eg toiletries, better quality towels.Has great potential.
Review 88:Location good for local and regional day trips. Quiet and private with wide views including sea view. Good parking. The owner has plans to upgrade the currently run down place and has started well with the dinning room which was clean and meals good.
Review 89:Decor a bit tired & dated in the room, but about to be used by the owner as a family room
Review 90:In the family room we were away from the main house, so quiet & we could see the sea whilst laying in bed
Review 91:Bedroom very small, but for the money it was fine.
Review 92:The welcome, easy going landlord, scrumptious breakfast and willingness to help provide anything I required. A good hotel, at a great rate.
Review 93:This hotel is in an excellent position for wandering along the coastal path - in either direction the views are magnificent. you do need a car to get there from Tintagel with luggage, but that whole Tintagel experience is fantastic. I did appreciate the early breakfast which enabled me to keep to schedule the next day. thank you.
Review 94:Cleanliness was very poor. Bath plug hole blocked with hair!! Basin grubby. Refreshment tray in bedroom not been cleaned. Towels not changed. Altogether a very tired and grubby 'hotel'
Review 95:Location Breakfast and breakfast room OK
Review 96:Dirty, dated room with chipped mug. Musty smell. Disorganised, owner didn't even know I was coming. Dirty dining area, tea pot melted the tatty plastic table cloth. The only plus side was the beautiful location. I appreciate that it was fairly cheap but come on where's your standards? Potential customers make sure your read all the reviews!
Review 97:WiFi wasn't good in the room, but we were on the top floor in the corner bedroom!
Review 98:Great breakfast Very friendly staff Good coastal location Near Tintagel Short walk to the amazing beach at Trebarwith Strands
Review 99:The building needs lots of tlc. Entrance hall very shabby as is the lower stairs carpet. Bed not made or bins emptied or bathroom cleaned or towels replaced. When I spoke to the owner about this on departure he replied ' oh, I might go in and empty bins but would not make the bed!
Review 100:Breakfasts fine. Room OK and view outstanding.
Review 101:The fact it isn't very well sign posted,we couldn't find it!Very dusty and shabby. The main carpet needs renewing or refitting, dangerous in places, a trip hazard. Poor pillows, clothes left indrawers from previous guests. The shower tray did not empty very quicklywas worried it was going to overflow. The room my son and his fiancéewere staying in was of similar state, their shower was very poor withnot much pressure.
Review 102:The view from our bedroom was beautiful. Hotel was very close to thewedding venue. Hearty breakfast.Nice hot water.
Review 103:Dated decor, not exactly what we expected, more of a backpackers accommodation. Rooms need a good clean.
Review 104:The staff were very friendly. Excellent breakfasts.
Review 105:On leaving I was asked for £70 whereas my booking confirmation stated£60 total I.E. two nights at £30.
Review 106:The signage The room Breakfast Information given about the locality
Review 107:Thought I had room with ocean view. Owner did shift me to room that had ocean view from bathroom and view of farmland.
Review 108:Great views of Atlantic Ocean, farms walk to cliff top. Home cooked breakfast.
Review 109:Our host, Paul, was very pleasant and helpful. We arrived later in the evening due to a punctured tire on our car rental, but Paul was very accommodating. He was present when we finally arrived and cheerfully showed us to our room. He served up a terrific full English breakfast the next morning and gave us instructions for a wonderful walk along the coast to Tintagel. Although we were leaving that day, Paul told us to leave our car at his place and when we were done we could pick it up. It was a lovely stay and a great host.
Review 110:Views
Review 111:The place is a hell hole. So much so we decided to leave after one night of our two night booking. Dead flies everywhere - the place needs a good clean. The remains of previous breakfasts were stuck to the tablecloth. Hence why nobody seemed to have breakfast including us! whole experience was repulsive which was such a shame as the views are magnificent.
Review 112:Cosy , but needs an update
Review 113:Great location with Spectacular outlook
Review 114:Enjoyed our stay here. Good host, good breakfast & close to Tintagel.
Review 115:Décor was a bit tired looking
Review 116:Fantastic value and location
Review 117:The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy, an enjoyable and relaxing break
Review 118:Kind and helpful staff, great value for money.
Review 119:Great seaview.
Review 120:No toiletries but so minor as everything else was amazing!
Review 121:Very welcoming. I would stay there again!
Review 122:We could have done with an extra chair in the room rather than having to sit on the bed
Review 123:The room was adequate, the bed was comfortable
Review 124:Friendly staff, very accommodating. Fantastic breakfast. Well situated, I loved walking the dog down to the cliffs every morning.
Review 125:I felt the bedding could have been cleaner I did not feel it clean
Review 126:The breakfast was good plenty
