Reviews for The Celtic Royal Hotel

Review 1:THE BED I don't think that I have ever slept in a more uncomfortable bed, it was badly made with a very creased bottom sheet which refused to go flat no matter how much I tried to smooth it out. The pillows were hard as was the mattress which had no cushioning whatsoever, and I have no idea what the duvet was stuffed with but it felt like lying under a rug instead of it snuggling around one as it should.

Review 2:The food was very good, nicely cooked and served by a very pleasant attentive waitress at a beautifully laid table.

Review 3:only one very small negative, would have liked the tv nearer to the beds

Review 4:the room, staff and food were excellent. a lovely clean hotel, will visit again

Review 5:To be picky, the breakfast area was a little fragmented, walking past the hot food first in a corridor , before entering dining room with the rest of the breakfast fayre.

Review 6:Very busy hotel with excellent staff , from reception to the dining room and to the bar. Enjoyable and fun.

Review 7:there was no covered area for smokers to go Had to stand outside a door?

Review 8:the leisure facilities were very good Food in the hotel was excellent the rooms were large and clean plenty of car parking spaces All of the staff were excellent made for a really enjoyable stay

Review 9:Breakfast was slightly cold on our second morning. My friends did not have hot water in shower.

Review 10:Parking available. Perfect hotel location. Lovely interior. Swimming pool and sauna.

Review 11:2nd time I've stayed, but this time I stayed half board, although food was lovely. I thought it annoying & embarrising that I had to add up my meal to £19.95 pp.

Review 12:Location, cleanliness, amenities, pleasant staff.

Review 13:Restaurant closed and had to eat my evening meal which I ordered from the restaurant menu from a pub table some tables were laid up with linen table clothes but we wernt offered an alternative. bistro, restaurant and pub dining doesn't work in the same room.

Review 14:Staff hardworking and courteous, parking good.

Review 15:This is a very comfortable and well maintained hotel with excellent restaurant and bar. Gym and pool are additional strengths. Right in heart of the town and convenient for road links to everywhere else. Huge car park.

Review 16:Receptionist upon arrival was awful. Told me my card had declined payment which it didn't. No payment was due until arrival booking through booking.com. Then gave us our room key but didn't tell us where the room was. Room key didn't work so my partner went back down the 3 flights of stairs while busting for the loo to have key reprogrammed. Came back up it still didn't work so went back down again and back up and it still didn't work. I then went down and she told me there was a problem with the door and she would get it fixed. We were tired after a long drive from Bristol and I then asked for another room as I wasn't prepared to wait for them to fix the door. Another lady came along who was very apologetic and looked on the computer and programmed another key. She took us to another room opened it up and let us in but it was actually already occupied! Very embarrassing. Eventually we were given a vacant room with a working door. The only problem was the extractor fan in the bathroom could not be turned off and made a noise all night. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The next day we went to breakfast and were shown to a table. Other people were taken to their tables and offered tea and toast and told to help themselves but we were just left. I went to find a waitress who told us that we just had to help ourselves and I asked if we could have some tea. I think we were just unlucky with our experience. The hotel overall did seem very good for the price and I was told the receptionist was new. Maybe a bit more training is needed!

Review 17:Beautiful hotel. Large comfortable room.

Review 18:No bad experience but perhaps a few more changes on the Menu over the 3 nights. Quality of food was excerlent.

Review 19:Just a fantastic stay, every thing from service to facilities were worthy of a five star, No doubt!

Review 20:We were particularly impressed with the way the hotel staff dealt with our special dietary requirements.A very pleasant & obliging young lady, serving behind the bar, listened to our needs and made a perfect soya milk latte.

Review 21:Heating in the hotel is a real issue. Saturday (14/11/2015) was one of the wettest days of the year but there was no heat in the public rooms or bedrooms until 5pm. This was grossly inadequate. The female on reception who we notified about the temperature at approximately 3pm informed us that she was not cold! The heating seemed to be on 5 - 10pm and 7 -9am. The bedroom radiator was quite small for the room, there is no heat in the bathroom and there are no radiators in the corridors so I can't see how the hotel could possibly be warm in the winter. Service in the bar on the Saturday night was very slow and seemed quite haphazard.

Review 22:Very convenient location. Breakfasts and dinner were excellent as we're the serving staff. Excellent pool facilities. Cleanliness throughout the hotel was second to none.

Review 23:No bad points, a thoroughly enjoyable stay

Review 24:Staff were friendly and helpful, food was lovely and location was ideal for popping into town sightseeing. Hotel is right opposite an Asda so very handy again if you run out of essentials during your stay. Lovely bar in hotel too very well priced.

Review 25:Friendly staff who go out of their way to help. Also, the rooms are spacious and well equipped and the hotel facilities, i.e. pool, gym, are excellent.

Review 26:Lovely old building with excellent facilities. Very attentive staff who always greeted you with a smile. Breakfast was good though I didn't have the cooked breakfast. Would definitely return to this hotel

Review 27:Would have liked more of a choice with the evening meal.

Review 28:Good location. Nice big room so didn't feel so enclosed. The staff were so, so lovely. Very friendly and polite and certainly looked after us very well. They were very obliging.

Review 29:Staff were welcoming, room clean and comfortable, food (breakfast) excellent. Leisure facilities good but crowded, lovely location in Snowdonia, good for sea and mountains.

Review 30:Teeny-weeny TV (- why?) Bedroom furniture Extra single bed in a double room

Review 31:A grand old building with good sized rooms Some helpful and friendly staff Good location On-site parking

Review 32:We had no bad experiences throughout our stay. One minor point; the bedroom would have benefited from a small occasional table.

Review 33:The location is excellent. Facilities are very good and the staff were always courteous, helpful and professional. The restaurant met our needs very well and we will certainly look forward to staying there again. Parking is ideal.

Review 34:Two steps along a corridor - as approaching were difficult to see, perhaps a sign or something to bring this to ones attention.

Review 35:Location brilliant, quiet, friendly staff, clean, spacious, meals lovely, ample and safe parking.

Review 36:Waiting staff at breakfast less efficient, and breakfast nothing special, penny-pinching on tea & toast. Room cold - radiator on a timer, barely on long enough to dry the towels - no heater in bathroom. Very complicated light switch system. Disappointing, for the money.

Review 37:Reception and bar staff friendly and efficient. Excellent bar meal. Downstairs rooms pleasant.

Review 38:We loved this hotel so much we booked in for a second night loosing the money we had paid for the hotel we should have been staying at, staff fantastic, restaurant food and service very good and plenty of parking space,

Review 39:Breakfast eggs on both days were hard ! Thermostat in room was not easily accessable,

Review 40:Reception were efficient with room large and clean restuarant staff gave excellent service and food was lovely

Review 41:Very small uncomfortable bed badly designed bathroom. Too many typed a4 signs giving pointless instructons at various points around the building.

Review 42:Good location food fine.

Review 43:The bathroom in our room showed signs of mould. The towels and toilet rolls were not good quality. There was very little in the way of toiletries available in the bathroom. View from window was over the rubbish bins.

Review 44:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and public areas were very traditional.

Review 45:Stayed in room 144 - the sound proofing was nonexistent - woken up at 1am by guests talking in the corridor and at 6am by the guests in the room above simply walking about, you could hear every footstep.

Review 46:Good quality food at a reasonable cost.

Review 47:Unable to make the shower operate to a satisfactory temperature. Breakfast food not always very hot from the self service bar. Unfortunately we had a creaking ceiling due to occupants in the room above and had to resort to earplugs every night.

Review 48:Friendliness of the staff. Standard of the served menu food.

Review 49:I cannot really add any detrimental comments.

Review 50:The courtesy and politeness of staff from reception through to dining room/bar and also cleaning staff. Room and bathroom very spacious and clean in particular bathroom shower had adjustable strength so could have a powerfull shower if one wished without affecting temperature much.Food very nicely cooked and full of flavour. Sunday carvery was excellent.

Review 51:Sauna not open and maintenance in the pool Not great value for money

Review 52:Comfy room, friendly staff Breakfast ok, food in the bar was nice Great location

Review 53:Rather stark ambience in the public areas with furniture arranged in a regimented fashion. Similar approach to layout of breakfast. Just needs a little imagination (but no expense) to make it feel more welcoming Bathroom light switch located at entrance to bedroom making a nocturnal visit both noisy and glaring for all occupants!!

Review 54:Good value for money. Very clean; lovely food. Staff in restaurant very pleasant, helpful and efficient.

Review 55:Not much in the way of views, but only a short walk to the sea.

Review 56:The fried breakfast was excellent, in fact the bacon in particular possibly the best I have ever tasted.

Review 57:Lots of facilities, although steam room was out of order, sauna and pool were great. Restaurant was fully booked but bistro/bar was fine. Breakfast very good with a large selection. Room was a bit boring but clean and comfortable.

Review 58:Nothing really - the best rooms have a sea view but others don't

Review 59:Great location - just a few minutes stroll from the town, castle and sea. Really friendly staff. Nice leisure centre.Good food

Review 60:was no room in the bathroom to put toiletries/makeup.I had booked a double room, but got one which felt like a three quarter bed and a single one at the side.

Review 61:the building was lovely.the food was excellent.near to town centre.all staff friendly

Review 62:It is a wedding venue. We stayed Friday and Saturday night and both nights had a wedding party, with some noisy and busy spells. Rooms are expensive.

Review 63:The staff were extremely helpful and professional. The hotel was clean and the rooms well kept.

Review 64:The towels need replacing! Thin worn out ones let the place down. Weather was dull and wet, they should have got the fire going in the reception to make it cosy and welcoming.

Review 65:Great value for money. Centrally located. Good food very friendly staff.

Review 66:Very very rude staff in breakfast lounge. One of the Eastern European girl got so rude when asked for tea. She greeted everyone except our table.

Review 67:Nice hotel location and good bar

Review 68:The staff were so helpful. An example: there were 11 of us for dinner but no tables free. They opened up a private room and let us use that. It was wonderful and made it such an enjoyable meal, with our family visiting from the US.

Review 69:The bar closed early to cash up but then if you wanted a drink staff would come and serve you.

Review 70:Warm welcome, lovely bedroom cleanliness, lovely pool and sauna and very polite staff.

Review 71:Stayed at Celtic Royal many times and no complaints. This is a privately owned hotel. Busy, efficient and well-run catering for coach tours - so lots of hustle and bustle in lobby in mornings.

Review 72:Central location, swimming pool, public areas. Large, traditional rooms.

Review 73:the bed was comfortable put on the small size for 2 people

Review 74:the staff where excellent beautiful swimming pool location was excellent the hotel was excellent and clean

Review 75:There wasn't much that we didn't like to be honest, I would really have to be picky to think of something

Review 76:Food was amazing, friendly staff, good service

Review 77:Fried eggs at breakfast not cooked to order so rubbery, bed linene a little bobbly!

Review 78:The area, interior, friendly staff, facilities and evening meal in restaurant.

Review 79:bedroom average (though shower excellent) & long way from main part of hotel but appreciate this is relative

Review 80:staff were very good. nice location for town . nice location for days out travelling

Review 81:As I had a foot support found it a bit of a problem on third floor . Lift too slow !!

Review 82:All of it thank you I was born in c' fon so know hotel very well proud that you look after your guests

Review 83:Would prefer the cooked breakfast to be freshly made to order rather than buffet style but realise that with having coach parties in, this is probably impractical.

Review 84:The dinners in the main restaurant were excellent, if anything too much on the plate! The staff are very welcoming and always friendly, (this was our fourth time at the hotel in almost as many years).

Review 85:Unfortunately, Caernarfon is badly in need of an upgrade. It is a national disgrace that a place that has a jewel like Caernarfon Castle does not have a town to match.

Review 86:I liked the hotel and its staff are a great credit to it. They are friendly, attentive and helpful.

Review 87:No air con (but fan available).

Review 88:Great location; spacious (free) parking; well-appointed spacious bedroom; clean en-suite. Decent-sized pool but didn't check-out gym.

Review 89:Our view wasn't great.

Review 90:Beautiful hotel with fantastic facilities including pool, sauna and gym. Lovely large rooms, very comfortable indeed. Excellent breakfast.

Review 91:A little lack of knowledge in the bar over the drink request but that's only minor as it was resolved with no problem you

Review 92:The staff work so hard make your stay pleasurable we loved it

Review 93:A short walk from the castle and the Welsh Highland Railway (highly recommended!) The Celtic Royal has free parking, lovely facilities and a great breakfast (fresh fruit, buffet, great staff, prompt). The whole place has been refurbished and the public rooms are excellent. We ate at The Black Boy out of nostalgia (this was perfect, too) but the menus at the Celtic looked good. Popular with coach parties probably because of the large coach park.

Review 94:No sleep first night due to location of room next to noisy extractor fan which was on all night. However room changed to top floor which was much quieter.

Review 95:Location and helpful staff

Review 96:Unable to leave windows open as sound from hotel ventilation systems intruded. Provision of fans in rooms would have been helpful during very hot weather. Noise intrusion from adjoining rooms.

Review 97:Spacious, comfortable room. Breakfast was excellent quality. Leisure facilities very good.

Review 98:Rather overwhelmed with large coach-tour groups while we were there, so ordinary guests tended to be shuffled away into corners.

Review 99:Nice, old-world hotel very well situated for the castle and the railway.

Review 100:Easy access and parking for the car. A large room with plenty of electrical sockets. The breakfast times allowed for an early start (to climb Snowdon) and a lie in (for the day after). Fantastic pool, sauna and gym.

Review 101:Beds a little lumpy. Nice to have some biscuits with tea and coffee facilities. Bathroom a bit grubby not enough toiletries and bath towels very small. TV very small screen could do with 24inch screen minimum.

Review 102:Breakfast excellent friendly staff. Excellent value for money.

Review 103:Shame the view is spoilt with modern supermarkets

Review 104:Great to stay in an old traditional looking hotel but with everything you would want at a very fair price.

Review 105:good parking, great location and very nice hotel décor. We thought the whole experience of our stay was very good and we would consider returning when we visit Wales again.

Review 106:Our room was unfortunately directly above the wedding venue so very loud until midnight. This wasn't mentioned when booking made and with a little more thought the room could have been allocated to one of the wedding party.

Review 107:The food in the restuarant was excellent as were the waiting staff. Our room was comfortable with a powerful hot shower

Review 108:Free wifi available but wouldn't connect properly hence unusable. There was a wedding going on at the time of our stay and the bass of the music was audible from our room on the second floor until midnight which made sleeping quite difficult.

Review 109:Room was comfortable and clean, hotel itself is very grand with great facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful and did what they could about the loud music including a partial refund. Great location in quiet town, good bus links to Snowdon and Bangor.

Review 110:Pool was abit cold, nothing else to complain about really.

Review 111:Staff very friendly, room very nice, pool, sauna and steam room clean and very welcome. Breakfast also very good, overall a very good experience

Review 112:Nothing bad, only comment is the single bed was a bit uncomfortable, but okay for a one night stop over.

Review 113:Excellent position in the town to go out and wander about. Staff good and friendly. This is one of the best kept hotels decor wise, I have stay in recently. Ample parking at the hotel, but if your having difficulty walking, the rear parking slots are on a sloped area, you might find this difficult to use!

Review 114:Bed was ok. Room was massive, could of had a few more chairs/ sofa to relax on

Review 115:Great pool and facilities. Lovely staff. Had a great meal in the evening too

Review 116:Bedrooms located at the rear face onto busy main road so traffic noise can be a problem.

Review 117:Great location for travelling around this area. Well managed hotel with helpful/polite staff

Review 118:No afternoon tea available on the day we were there which was a pity after a long drive.

Review 119:Room had all you needed with extra pillows available. We didn't use the leisure facilities but if we had I think that the value for money score would have been higher. As if was we just had bed and breakfast.

Review 120:Noise from upstairs rooms far to noisy at night floorboards need looking at had hardly any sleep other than that would have been perfect.

Review 121:Lovely helpful staff, clean big rooms, breakfast was good.

Review 122:I took my 8yr old niece, who was looking forward to using the swimming pool, only to be told that children are not allowed in after 6pm. Disappointing

Review 123:We booked the hotel at short notice via Booking.com and got an excellent offer. Hotel lovely and rooms very spacious, had interconnecting rooms, which was a bonus

Review 124:Slightly too warm room Bedroom decor a little dated

Review 125:Great pool, sauna and steam room Near to Snowdonia Great staff Amazing restaurant Great blackout curtains Comfortable room Perfect location Near to two supermarkets Lots of parking spaces Traditional Classic feel

Review 126:We stayed with an elderly couple one of which had limited mobility and so it would have good if we did not have to negotiate steps on bedroom floor level. The revolving door at entrance was also difficult.

Review 127:plenty of facilities, pool was excellent.

Review 128:Booked a 'deluxe double', and we couldn't open the door to the room fully because the bed was in the way and the room too small. Very small bathroom and an uncomfortable bed. Cooked buffet breakfast was poor.

Review 129:The entrance hall is stunning. Great location for the city and getting around.

Review 130:I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, the food in the restaurant was excellent. Also the bar meals were very good. This hotel also has a beautiful swimming pool and other leisure facilities all maintained to a very high standard.

Review 131:whilst our stay was short & sweet,we found the leisure facilities and pool area to be of good standard. The check in staff were friendly and helpful, The twin room and delux double we booked were overlooking a car park and bar area flat roof and both rooms very basic.. The hotel has a nice airy bar area along with a decent breakfast to send us on our way. Canerfon seems a nice little town and we hope to get back some time soon to see a bit more than we had time for on this occasion.

Review 132:Took my mother for a night away in wales for her birthday, both our rooms were very nice with plenty of space, shower was very good, dinner and breakfast were very good, staff were great.

Review 133:the ambience of the hotel, very friendly staff a warm welcome, fab spa facility, great food in the bistro and liked that we had the choice of a bistro for a more relaxed dining experience

Review 134:No seating area in room. For one couple, one double bed and one single. Single could have been removed for seating. Not enough tea or coffee in room. Kettle inadequate.

Review 135:Beautiful hotel. Staff friendly and polite.
