Reviews for The Wootons
Review 1:The location is perfect, near to the castle and beautiful town. We were welcomed and enjoyed a real taste of Tintagel. Our room was comfortable and warm. Good value for money.
Review 2:We would have liked to have had the details of the evening meal posted clearly in the entrance.
Review 3:The location was great because of the views, being so close to the centre of the village and offering accessibilty to other places of interest. Breakfast was great.
Review 4:Couldn't access wi-fi in the room. Tv was too small and poor quality to be of any use. Breakfast area was a little unclean. Smokers from the pub under the bedroom window not the most welcome, I can't say they disturbed us too much and weren't disrespectful, just not keen on the smell of smoke.
Review 5:The room with the 4 poster bed has an excellent view and is a good size. The room was very clean and well presented. Host was very pleasant, and helpful. Breakfast was very nice indeed. Perfect location, closest to Tintagel Castle. Ample parking; other accommodation in the area has limited or no parking. Didn't fancy risking the long stay parking so that was very useful. Was made to feel very welcome.
Review 6:Asked for a quiet room but it was probably the nosiest room in the whole pub right under the bar with sky sports booming and doors banging , pan faced owners with no conversation when met for breakfast ! feels like there just not into it !! there was only one conversation when they took my money , wont be staying hear again an that for sure !!
Review 7:Have stayed hear before, and the location is what draws us back ,
Review 8:Wouldn't recommend the Sunday carvery. Although we did eat late and had what was left, it wasn't a culinary geat!
Review 9:Comfortable bed; clean room; friendly staff; good breakfast.
Review 10:The Wi fi signal in the hotel was so poor. You can only access wi fi in the dining area and the bar.
Review 11:The staff are warm, welcoming and helpful. Family and pet friendly place. The location of the property is near to all the places of interest, like Tintagel castle and the beach. The food, breakfast and dinner, in this hotel (The Wootons) are fabulous, it's delicious. The High Street and shops were so close to this hotel where you can walk around and buy some souvenirs.
Review 12:The proprietor/manager did not do as I asked, which was to not charge the credit card I used to guarantee the room. He went ahead and charged the room to the card before we had even arrived to pay the bill. He was not at all welcoming. The hotel looks pretty tired .
Review 13:Internet connection was terrible but I guess that can't be helped because of location.
Review 14:The location was great, very close to the centre and the castle. The staff was very friendly.
Review 15:As was our experience at a number of places we stayed in England, at The Wootons (1) the mattresses on the beds were rather hard and in need of replacement, (2) there was no lift (elevator), so we had to haul some heavy bags upstairs to our rooms, and (3) "temperature control" in our room consisted of an electric fan which, mercifully, we did not need to use.
Review 16:The governor, Mr. Ian Young, is regularly on site, is friendly and accommodating, and made us feel both welcome and valued as guests. The location is fantastic (very close to the castle with a nice view of St. Materiana's Church, Tintagel Head, and the Atlantic Ocean from the hotel's terraced and picnic-table covered garden). Parking was plentiful, easily accessible, and free. The selection of local ales and ciders on draft at the bar was quite good. Highly recommended.
Review 17:Stairs not really suitable for disabled visitors. Hand rail runs out before top of stairs.
Review 18:Good stay, breakfast plentiful. Rooms clean. Owners and staff friendly
Review 19:This hotel is very dated. It is desperate need of refurbishment. There was no wifi in the rooms, and although we asked for a quite room, the pub below us was noisy until at least midnight on both nights we stayed. There was also a very noisy extractor fan below our room, which i assume was from the kitchen. This came on from around 10pm until around 5am. It was extremely loud and prevented a peaceful nights sleep. Although the location of this B&B was excellent the amount we paid for 2 nights was excessive for what was supplied.
Review 20:The location of this B&B was excellent, just a short walk to the pubs and restaurants. The old post office is a 2 min walk away and King Arthurs Castle is within easy walking distance.
Review 21:Nothing.
Review 22:The staff at the hotel are really welcoming and keen to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Great bar and food. Breakfast is really sizable. Will be staying again in the future. Ample care park also.
Review 23:the room was very old fashioned it felt like being in an old peoples home its in desperate need of updating. the view from our room would have been very nice but we couldnt see out of the windows as the seals had blown and made the glass white but worst of all was the bed we have never slept in such and uncomfortable bed and the pillows were like 2 pieces of cardboard, definately need new beds and pillows
Review 24:location of hotel very good, food very nice especially the cooked breakfast. staff very friendly. nice and quiet at night could only hear owls hooting. free parking in fair sized car park. hotel situated in ideal spot. very nice beer garden with lovely countryside views.
Review 25:The room needed some upgrading to it's fittings and decoration but the main disappointment was when we arrived back after a day out to find the room had not been cleaned or tidied. I did not want to make a fuss but there seemed no apology or attempt to do anything about this. This saddened me.
Review 26:The manager was very friendly and welcoming to us. The food was good and the dining room had good views and was very pleasant if you had a window seat. The bar was well stocked with local beers. The stay was reasonably priced.
Review 27:Great location and value for money. Small village and entrance to Tintagel Castle was just viewing from our rooms. Rooms were clean, delicious breakfast and friendly staff. Just walked to Tintagel Castle which was very interesting. Recommend for anyone.
Review 28:The dripping shower, no view from the windows due to broken seals on the double glazed units andfilled with condensation, no frosted windows in the bathroom.
Review 29:We came in as strangers and left as friends, hospitality brilliant, room comfortable, food was value for money.
Review 30:Nothing really. My wife didnt like the usual pub noises from the bar till 11pm but after a few pints who cares. After that the place is as quiet as the grave.
Review 31:Central location right next the track for Tintagel castle! Its a traditional local pub more than a Hotel but thats fine with me. Sky sports in the bar. The ales on offer were great. Friendly host, laidback.. Full English breakfast was OK but I felt the bacon etc came from a supermarket rather than locally sourced... pity cos the cooking itself was good. Private car park
Review 32:noise from doors closing. noise from TV/muffled voices. After a short while sleep zzzzzzz.
Review 33:Fantastic welcome: bevvy, berger and bed. Very tired after a 5 hour journey.
Review 34:Rooms a bit dated with old carpets. Poor wifi with no availability in room. Short breakfast hour. Would have liked it to be until 10 rather than 9:30. Also more options such as fruit would have been nice. Exhaust fan in bath not working. Would have liked slightly larger bed in family room. Small room frig would be useful.
Review 35:Great location. Friendly hosts. Good pub with sky sports and pool table. Nice cooked breakfast with cereal and yoghurt options. Comfortable lounge area. Easy parking. Dogs allowed
Review 36:WIFI Internet was very poor or non existent, and to get emails we had to visit other pubs/ cafes nearby which all offered free wifi none of which suffered from the daily wifi problems that the Wootons have.
Review 37:Comfortable rooms and plenty of parking. Based in the centre of Tintagel, suits a short stay
Review 38:Breakfast was very nice but a shame we didn't get what we asked for off the menu on two occaisions :-(
Review 39:Very central to all amenities Comfortable Nice spacious bathroom All areas of the property well maintained Off road Parking
Review 40:When we arrived, we had to wait at the bar with our child in front of a sign, telling, "no kids allowed at the bar", for a reasonable long time. Then we got the keys, with a short excuse, that they are short on employees in the moment and that there is nobody here to show us the room, but he hopes we will find it. We found it :-) The breakfast-tables were not very clean, sticky surface, worn out furniture at all. We did not feel very welcome. They care more for their pub-guests, than for their residents.
Review 41:Tintagle is a nice village, it was the only one familyroom available in the whole area for this date.
Review 42:The room was right over the pub and on Friday it was a bit noisy. Other nights it was ok. If you don'twant the full pub experience ask for a different room.
Review 43:Location was excellentfor seeing the sights in the area. Breakfast is good. It is well maintained and clean.
Review 44:Found out kettle didn't work in the morning, just when we needed it! The constant dripping noise from the shower was annoying when we were trying to sleep
Review 45:The room and location of the hotel was great. The staff were welcoming
Review 46:We felt like we took someone's table although there was no reserved seating.
Review 47:We were shown our room quickly. Breakfast was served promptly and the room opened onto the garden. I enjoyed a nice long bath. The location was next to the path leading to the castle. Off street parking.
Review 48:Very friendly staff
Review 49:Staff were polite and helpful. Nice cooked breakfast.
Review 50:Lack of cleanliness in room and dining area, pet hair ground in carpet, tables sticky. Generally felt un-cared for.
Review 51:Prefect location
Review 52:Owners didn't seem to want to be there. Not very hospitable
Review 53:Central to village and shops plus eateries
Review 54:Noise
Review 55:Location
Review 56:Lively pub showing sports on a big screen. Great location for Tintagel Castle.
Review 57:Very comfortable bed and clean room. The owners were very friendly. Breakfast was excellent. We would definitely stay again.
Review 58:Needs a little upgrading overall
Review 59:Lovely location. Good food and pleasant staff.
Review 60:Great location, lovely rooms, very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast and other meals.
Review 61:Superb location next to Tintagel Castle and stunning views from the Beer Garden.
Review 62:Next to Tintagel Castle, great panoramic view from the terrace, reasonably priced.
Review 63:Very thoughtful and friendly stuff, definately going back next time!

Review 69:Comfortable, friendly enough, great location.
Review 70:Wifi didn't seem to really work
Review 71:Very tasty food in the evening. Very comfortable rooms. Nice breakfast to start the day.
Review 72:noise after 11pm often to midnight
Review 73:location; friendly staff
Review 74:Clean and beautiful hotel, rocky was fantastic to see everyday, great fun he made our holiday.
Review 75:Friendly staff Good location Good food
Review 76:Rooms had old carpet in bathroom and bedding was poor. Needing improvements for the cost per night.
Review 77:Breakfast was nice and staff pleasant
Review 78:We attempted to eat our dinner there but never got service
Review 79:Location was excellent and the staff was very accommodating
Review 80:Liked everything
Review 81:Friendly hosts & location of property
Review 82:It was loud and poorly equipped in the bathroom
Review 83:people were nice but could not sever a meal at supper time and had problems with the cleaning staff
Review 84:leaving
Review 85:location and staff where friendly and helpfull
Review 86:Owner was rude. We booked the hotel 2 hrs before we showed up. On viewing the property we decided we didn't want to stay but he demanded we either stay or pay the full amount anyway. He still had vacancies so we weren't depriving him of bookings. He told us that he could get very nasty if we made trouble. What an attitude. He has done himself a lot of harm by his attitude as it is now out there just what type of place he runs. Also the breakfast was horrible. Bacon cold and eggs rubbery. Many places cheaper are much better.
Review 87:Nothing
Review 88:Fried breakfast was poor. The bacon was thin and cheap cuts, badly cooked, tasteless sausages. We were the only ones there but it was not well cooked. Looked cheap and nasty. Cutlery looked old and worn. No choice of butter / margarine, just butter. Paint peeling badly off the ceiling in the main lounge area, not impressed with that.
Review 89:Friendly atmosphere, views were great, friendly staff, laid back, not business like which is good. Very clean, loads of seating and a nice bar. Bedrooms were great. Comfy beds, lovely rooms.
Review 90:Maybe the wifi could be better. Breakfast is ok, I would have loved more attention on local and good food in this part of the country though.
Review 91:Very good location, the staff is very friendly as well. The hotel is also a pub and you can have a drink among local people.
Review 92:I expect more than a pub menu for a country hotel. The hot water was warm at best, tepid in the evening. Breakfast coffee was weak and possibly instant. It was not obvious deserts were served.
Review 93:Good location
Review 94:Uncomfortable mattress - we could both feel all the springing.
Review 95:Fantastic views from the bar and dining areas and perfect location for both visiting the village and walking to the coast.
Review 96:It would have been nice to have a little more choice of evening meals, specifically 'ordinary 'choices like cottage pie, fish and chips or good old bangers and mash, as this would have probably resulted in us eating in the hotel more than just the one evening.
Review 97:The location is perfect both for the village, access to the coastline and access to other areas of North Cornwall. Breakfasts excellent as was service.
Review 98:Wootons Country Hotel was a great location for exploring Tintagel. Our comfortable room was fairly spacious with a nice big bathroom. An English breakfast was served in the downstairs dining room. The bar downstairs, and the sitting room were great if you just need some relaxation time or if the weather is not too good. And if its fine the outside tables are great for picnics or drinks.
Review 99:Tired decor and furnishings. Smelly carpets and stale room smell. No heating on and it was cold and wet. Noises from next room - could hear light switches going on and off and someone in shower. Noise also from the corridor outside room - door opening and closing with a bang.
Review 100:Not much.
Review 101:Room was quite noisy as it was above the bar and we could hear the music. The room and hotel could do with a lot of TLC.
Review 102:We liked the location, breakfast and evening meal. Ian was very friendly, very welcoming, unlike the rest of the staff. beds very comfortable, great shower. Free spacious car park.
Review 103:Rooms could be noisy if at front on Main Street. Above bar door where people in and out chatting and smoking. Needed windows open as was hot weekend.
Review 104:Perfect location for the Castle. Food good price and hot. Breakfast very good and keeps you going for few hours.
Review 105:We felt the hotel needs brightening up - its rather on the dark and dingy side. We could not see very well out of the window of our room as it is misted up and the room and bathroom were very small
Review 106:the location for visiting other places is good. the breakfasts were excellent. Staff very friendly. Plenty of car parking space.
Review 107:the bathroom was not clean at all so we did not have a bath but just a quick shower!
Review 108:location just next to Arthur's castle and the pub at the hotel is very nice and you eat well
Review 109:The location was perfect for visiting Tintagel Castle, Merlin's cave and the King Arthur museum which was perfect for our trip. The gentleman serving our breakfast was so friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 110:Noise between rooms was a problem on first night - may've been just noisy neighbours though!
Review 111:Great views and location was excellent for the castle.
Review 112:Had to leave early due to family illness, but only lost one day and the hotel were very good and did not charge for the day, so no complaints and very pleased.
Review 113:Friendly staff, excellent service, good local amenities, nice hotel, deserves more stars.
Review 114:No lifts and no offer to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Mattress was so thin it was like sleeping on the board under the mattress. As expected the hotel was very old but really needs updating.
Review 115:The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was very good. The grounds were excellent with fantastic views and the location was perfect for our stay.
Review 116:Timing of breakfast - could have been earlier to get more into the day View from bedroom was spoilt by the condition of the windows
Review 117:Friendliness of the staff Quality of breakfast Ease of parking Lovely location
Review 118:The room and en suite bathroom was large, clean and very comfortable. Food was beautiful - best steak we have eaten in a long time. Lovely views from our room and also plenty of on site parking.
Review 119:As a slightly disabled person I felt that the stairs were a little unsafe at the top where there were steps that did not have handrail support.
Review 120:The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the hotel was good
Review 121:A little expensive for what it is.
Review 122:Great location in Tintagel, close to everything.
Review 123:Overpriced. The property needs an update.
Review 124:The owners - they are lovely.
Review 125:Very friendly and generous owners and staff. Tasty breakfast and lovely views from the breakfast room.
Review 126:Could do with better wi fi, and bigger tv.
Review 127:Usual Cornish hospitality.
Review 128:Nothing!
Review 129:The location, the landlord, the views, the informality and ease of stay
Review 130:Going home!!
Review 131:Friendly staff, comfortable room and a super breakfast.
