Reviews for Plas Dinas Country House
Review 1:Dirty carpets, blackened socks, wear the slippers. If all is well great but if small problem there is a poor attitude from the owners/operators. Owners live on sight telling us that is so they can always handle situations. Yet the owner at NIGHT desk had problem with us getting in at 10pm due to an on road breakdown. Odd since he is there, awake, online anyway AND WAS phoned in advance. Problem with one room having a single king instead of twin beds that were booked. Blamed this on booking.com saying there is no twin booked, no twin available, the .com misrepresented them and us AND we need take it up with them. Next day we showed our printout to the other owner. The printout pictured that same room as twin (mind you plas dinas not booking.com furnishes the pictures). We then found out that contrary to what the night man said when checking in that room was able to have the bed split and he well knew it. This other owner felt that the first owner should have done just that and went on to Implying the problem of shirking his duties. Then went further on to say that we the customer should have called him on this and made him separate the bed. Felt like we stepped into the middle of a rather odd personal tiff between two close people whose personalities are not well suited in a hospitality based industry. The morning man then agreed we should get a small discount since the advertised twin room's cost was a little more. Said he would forward that to his partner the night man who takes care of the billing end. Of course the night man had a problem with this. And even though the sum was small, out of principle I found myself contacting this establishment thrice to rectify. While all three contacts provided an amusing array of excusive remarks and writings it was an annoying much for little. Beware the attitudes.
Review 2:Nice old home with interesting furnishings. Breakfast time short but good breakfast. Great internet Expensive toiletries + very necessary slippers and robe. Quiet zone
Review 3:Wanted a whiskey, but after dinner came home a bit late to ask. No problem anyway.
Review 4:lovely, quiet location. Lots of history, very friendly owners. Lit open fire in luxury lounge, with latest magazines
Review 5:The whole experience of staying at Plas Dinas was fantastic. Fine rooms, great food, superb hosts, all in tranquil surroundings. Thank you, Neil and Marco; we will be back.
Review 6:That we had to leave :-(
Review 7:Lovely hotel . Great room and facilities along with attention to detail on all the little extras , inc chocolates gift on arrival in room . Was about to head into town when a late cancellation aloud us to have dinner . Became an impromptu evening , with fabulous meal , service and company ! The highest compliment I can give ,is that it was as relaxed as staying at home ,with the luxury of a 5 star hotel ! Recommended indeed . Thanks for making our stay an experience to remember
Review 8:For the price paid, we had hoped for better breakfast options, particularly when we had requested for vegetarnian meal, prior to the visit.
Review 9:The hotel was in an idyllic location, with beautiful greenery, and within short driving distance to Caernarfon and Snowdonia national park. The room (princess Anne room) was beautifully decorated and had all the necessary amentities.
Review 10:Room did not resemble the photos on the website that made it look larger and grander than it really was. Little space to move around. Wardrobe and chest of drawers located in bathroom! Compact double bed equipped with heavyweight duvet - far too warm for mid August. The bath and shower were a joke. My wife took a bath in the morning but it took ages to reach a modest depth of water. I decided to shower. Just a trickle which alternated between scalding and freezing. And I had to hold the handset to direct what water there was to rinse off the soap.
Review 11:Good location - in our case convenient for ferry to Ireland, as well as access to Snowdonia Quiet.
Review 12:They took the money 4 weeks in advance. If you want dinner it had to be ordered 24 hours in advance and it is a set 4 course dinner with no vegetarian option and you have it at 19.00 hrs - no flexibility. Nothing for smaller appetites. Honesty bar is expensive and you have to do all the work! No "Goodbye, I hope you have enjoyed your stay" on our departure. It is an expensive upmarket B and B not an hotel. They take the money so far in advance that by the time you get there they have spent it and have lost interest in you.
Review 13:Nothing to fault.
Review 14:Peaceful. Lovely room. Hosts very welcoming. Nothing too much trouble. Little extras such as fresh milk, good selection of teas and coffee especially loved the Molton Brown toiletries.
Review 15:That there was no room for us to stay on the way home, at the end of our holiday! Also, for those of us who have to avoid a cooked breakfast (unfortunately), a croissant or two would have cheered me up !
Review 16:Perfect stay
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:The wonderful welcome, the history and beautiful appearance of the property. The breakfast was excellent (best Eggs Benedict ever!), and the care and friendly attention from the staff was flawless
Review 19:The charm, elegance and comfort of a lovely country house. Everything carefully thought out for the comfort of the guests. So different from an impersonal modern hotel.
Review 20:The lounge area was too quiet with little use made of it by guests. There was a honours bar, but a manned bar would have improved the atmosphere.
Review 21:The room was of very high standard and very comfortable. The apple TV was good to watch after a long day. Lovely view of Caernarvan area from the rear garden.
Review 22:no bad experiences
Review 23:attention to detail was excellent, the guest lounge with a lit open fire was a very pleasant surprise, exceptionally inviting and very comfortable
Review 24:Not a bad experience but the Judges room is very "cosy" to say the least! I think the current word is "bijou" maybe?
Review 25:The ambience. Peace & quiet with lovely grounds. The feeling that everything was well thought out.
Review 26:Nothing bad about it at all. Highly recommend this house.
Review 27:Loved the history and the house as a whole was wonderfully nostalgic and full of memorabilia. the hosts were charming and would do anything to create a comfortable stay. Grounds were stunning too.
Review 28:The shower in our bathroom was not very good = hardly any water pressure - shower curtain not very nice (tatty). Bath needs a grab rail for older guests
Review 29:The location of the hotel is beautiful. the smell of the horses not so good
Review 30:Deserve their five stars All the little touches like fresh milk in the bedroom ground coffee etc excellent. Set evening meals were superb. All staff were excellent including mine hosts.
Review 31:Wi- Fi was hit & miss in our room (peregrine) but did not spoil our holiday.
Review 32:Loved the location, the periodic property, homeliness, gardens & hospitality. We felt very spoilt
Review 33:warm friendly welcome, served coffee in the beautiful lounge with an open log fire. Room was very comfortable with all the facilities we needed to enjoy our stay.
Review 34:Leaving
Review 35:A wonderful warm welcome from both hosts, and the luxurious surroundings. Walking down to the dining room ( excellent food) was in itself an experience - the portraits, legal summonses and personal letters adorning the walls. A truly relaxing and memorable break.
Review 36:This is the second time we have stayed at Plas Dinas and have nothing but praise for the quality, ambience, comfort and location. The dinner was excellent and the breakfast to a very high standard. Will return in 2015.
Review 37:...Sadly, this could have been one of our most favourite hotels of all time but for one reason. We didn’t know when booking that Plas Dinas accepts dogs. There was one in the hall on our arrival and the thought of animals having lain on our carpet, our chairs, our bed was not a pleasant one to us – even though the room appeared to be spotlessly clean.
Review 38:We had a warm welcome from our hardworking host, who showed us around the house pointing out all the memorabilia. He made us feel really looked-after throughout our short stay. We liked the trouble taken to print out a list of local places to eat for those not dining in. Our large, sympathetically decorated, high-ceilinged room was right next to the front door but was very quiet once we closed the inner door. Huge windows with views of the grounds let in plenty of light and after dark the lighting was very good, too. There was a luggage rack (every hotel room should have one). We relaxed in the two huge leather chairs in front of the beautiful fireplace enjoying our complementary posh chocs and choice of good-quality teas and coffees. Fresh milk in the fridge instead of those little uht containers was a delight. OH loved the large desk, the up-to-the-minute TV suitable for Iphone wireless streaming and the myriad of easily-accessible power points - an IT person’s dream! We had an enormous, comfortable bed with attractive headboard and super-quality bed linen and we had a good night’s sleep. Stylishly-tiled bathroom was large with a shower and a bath and we appreciated that both had safety handles. A soft-close toilet seat – rarely seen away from home! Really good rain-shower (wish I had remembered my shower cap though) and top-quality toiletries. Something like a little bench in the bathroom to put clothes and toilet bags on would have made it perfect. The grand, beautifully-decorated guest lounge impressed with its huge fireplace and collection of paintings and photographs. There was a well-stocked honesty bar. Next morning there was a prettily-laid out buffet with exquisite soft fruits and Welsh yogurt, which were followed by an excellent cooked breakfast (gluten-free toast available, too). Breakfast staff were friendly and efficient.
Review 39:Great welcome from Neil. Tea and cake on arrival. Set back from the road with fabulous view over the Menai Straits. Fabulous food at dinner in the evening.
Review 40:Duvets and pillows need replacing. Plas Dinas has high reputation will need huge commitment ... And money to keep that over time.
Review 41:Good welcome Location Peaceful New owners have taken on a big project, have high aspirations Interesting house,
Review 42:We only stayed for one night on this occasion but would love to stay for three or four.
Review 43:Friendly welcome, very comfortable accommodation and facilities excellent. The location is ideal and the house itself is beautiful and peaceful with lots of character. Breakfast was delicious with plenty choice. We have no hesitation in saying that we wholeheartedly recommend Plas Dinas as one of the nicest places to stay.
Review 44:It was frustrating that we had to give 24 hours notice for dinner in house and we were unaware until we arrived at check in time of 1500. Hair dryer in room was not great.
Review 45:Amazing history and views, beautiful house and great service. The house is full of historical pictures and artifacts and is beautifully kept. The Princess. Margaret Suite is a real treat.
Review 46:Very small room, slanting floor, cobwebs near ceiling, cramped antiquated wardrobe, noisy Shredder WC, poor shower. Drawer units unusable, difficult to open. In room tea making facility inaccessible due to smallness of room
Review 47:Excellent location, private driveway, excellent customer service, welcome chocolates and water in rooms, complimentary coffee/tea with cake in the afternoon. 15 acre grounds with sunset viewing from Mound. Free Wifi & parking. Good Breakfast, evening dinner needs booking in advance
Review 48:As mentioned by another guest, we were made to feel as if we were house guests, not clients. The hosts were very welcoming and there were lots of small, thoughtful touches (such as a small bag in a bedroom drawer with items you might have forgotten). The house is also filled with unusual and interesting memorabilia from its history.
Review 49:Everything was more than perfect :)
Review 50:Very welcoming hosts, beautiful and aesthetic surroundings, excellent food and service, fast WiFi-connection... Overall just an excellent stay! Thank you!
Review 51:The rooms, the facilities, the comfort, the staff, the food -all wonderful! Would recommend a visit. Good centre for travelling around the sites and beaches of North Wales. Or just stay there for the enjoyment of it!
Review 52:There wasn't anything not to like!
Review 53:Friendly hosts, our room was nicely aired with relaxing music on our arrival. Great food and we were made to feel special.
Review 54:No criticisms at all. One of the nicest places I've stayed in.
Review 55:Very comfortable atmosphere, first class attention to details, and extremely good food. Charming people in charge. In the best sense, it didn't feel like a hotel.
Review 56:The mattresses need updating, otherwise perfect
Review 57:Staff and owners were superb. Really liked the breakfast, evening bar in the sitting room, setting and most room features.
Review 58:I cannot imagine anybody finding anything to dislike - even the weather was kind to us!
Review 59:Neil and Marco are wonderful hosts and their welcome on arrival set the scene for the most perfect few days holiday in their beautiful home set in beautiful grounds. Everything about the house; its furnishings, stylish decoration, artwork, fascinating memorabilia, large vases of fresh perfumed flowers in all the main rooms - they have thought of everything to make a stay at Plas Dinas a very special experience. We are already planning a return visit.
Review 60:Nothing, it was fabulous!
Review 61:The best part of the hotel is the lovely and welcoming hosts, Neil and Marco. Set in beautiful grounds with a house filled with history, lovely quirky rooms with deep baths and the most comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely and you could have it inside or out on the terrace looking over the grounds; just the best way to start the day. Included in the price was afternoon tea in front of the fireplace with fredhly cooked cakes and evening drinks that you could help yourself. We loved it so much we extended our stay by a night just to do it all over again.
Review 62:Shower was not good. Very weak and difficult to maintain constant temperature. Shower curtain wrapped around you like a cocoon, Quite claustrophobic.
Review 63:Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Great breakfast. Fascinating photos and memorabilia on the walls.
Review 64:Very warm welcome and imediatley felt at home.
