Reviews for Crown Inn

Review 1:-

Review 2:Old building with beams in ceiling and squeeky floors gave the feel of history and romance! Excellent food in the restaurant and great pub to meet friendly locals.

Review 3:Beautiful location but apart from that was very disappointed with the rest. The steps leading down from the car park to our room were not lit and with a small child posed a hazard, breakfast wasn't very nice and even though the waitress was pleasant enough we had to ask for butter and sauces which wasn't offered when our breakfast was served. There was no wifi access in the room or even reception coverage, website stated there was wifi in all rooms but we were informed that it was limited to reception and the bar area, did raise the issues with the manager but he just stated that he would raise it with staff.

Review 4:The suite was fantastic, really big & comfortable. We have been to this hotel before as the staff are always helpful, the village is lovely and tranquil and it is in a beautiful part of the country. Good value for money.

Review 5:Somewhat tired room. In annex with poor/no external lighting. Only one member of staff on to cover reception, bar and deal with queries!

Review 6:Excellent breakfast. Value for money. Helpful member of staff.

Review 7:character property in character village, warm clean room, comfy bed. able to change original booking date at short notice without fee & also received free online upgrade on re-booking ! great breakfast, easy parking.

Review 8:Bar staff inability to understand English! Poorly stocked bar. Lights outside reception need to be on a sensor as they illuminate the bedrooms all night and curtains not thick enough to prevent this..... did not sleep well. Room was comfortable but in dire need of decoration and refurbishment. Especially the shower and makeshift extension lead to the kettle.

Review 9:Position in Cotswold's Quiet.

Review 10:I did find the fact that there is no mobile phone signal whatsoever in the village inconvenient, and there is no mention of this during booking. Having to drive into Chipping Camden nearly to let my partner send a few New Year texts was a pain! There are a few improvements that would make the world of difference to the overall product. Thread bare carpets in the corridors never are an excuse to be honest. Although the room was generally fine the chipped painted veneered vanity unit does look unsightly and replacing these would enhance the entire appearance, and improve the quality of the rooms.

Review 11:A simple comfortable place to stay, very functional and fulfills most of what it promises. Blockley is a delightful village, and reflects all that you expect from a small tranquil Cotswold village. Very friendly residents, most welcoming!

Review 12:We were here to celebrate New Year. We had a lovely room, in a quiet area of the hotel, which was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very hardworking but they would have benefitted from in house supervision to have a better understanding of the needs of the clientele. They were all eastern European and seemed to have little understanding of the celebration of New Year in western Europe. Communication between the staff and the management appears to be poor and shows no respect for the clientele who pay good money to come to one of the most welcoming villages in the Cotswolds. When I returned with my muddy boots one afternoon after a wet walk the manager looked absolutely horrified when I asked if there was somewhere in the hotel I might be able to dry/leave my boots.Having spoken to local people about the Crown Inn they felt very disappointed with what it had to offer the community. Wake up management!

Review 13:The staff were not very friendly or welcoming. The breakfast was a buffet, but we were not permitted to serve ourselves. I was given one slice of bacon, half a tomato and one egg only. Even though we selected the 'budget room' it wasn't cheap, but the carpets were dirty and stained and the mattress was old and lumpy with springs.

Review 14:The hotel was easy to find and located in a charming village

Review 15:room was dated and tired and smelled musty noisy floorboards from room above difficult to sleep due to occupant above moving around a lot during the night.

Review 16:the food was nice dining room and pub was nice good parking facilities

Review 17:Some waiting staff spoke little English. Hotel in need of some attention to the overall state of the establishment, and an overhaul of the décor. The breakfast on the Saturday was pre-cooked and kept on a heated server, so felt more like a cafeteria than a hotel. We were somewhat spoiled from our original stay at this hotel some 20 years ago; then it was upmarket and had a very high standard of facilities, presentation, and guest care.

Review 18:Clean accommodation

Review 19:The room was in need of an upgrade and the bed did give a good night's rest. The bathroom was in need of an upgrade, it took several minutes for the water to run hot to the basin.

Review 20:The restaurant served good food promptly, well done.

Review 21:Everything, price was £39 for one night, gave £40 on arrival, no change offered. Went for a bar meal, ordered burger with cheese £9.95. Receptionist barman waiter came back an said sorry we have no cheese, how bad is that. Felt sorry for the poor guy who was left too save a sinking ship. Too other lady's stayed that night and wanted a drink in front of the open fire as promised. Yet again the poor guy left in charge had too tell the tourists they had no logs for the fire. Such a shame the place as nice as it is,is struggling. Help the nice guy who tries too run the place for you owners

Review 22:The place itself

Review 23:Room was comfortable with all necessary provisions for an overnight stay. Breakfast staff very attentive doing their best to look after all the guests with a smile!

Review 24:The decoration in the room is basic, wood chip. The bar had run out of ales and only had one red wine by the glass.

Review 25:The room was well furnished and of an excellent size. The Crown has an ample car park, needed for Blockley. A greta place for walks, breakfast was very good - our first morning it served, the second morning when it was a lot busier it was a served buffet.

Review 26:To get to the suite we had to go outside through the emergency door which closed behind you. To get back in we had to climb some steep steps and go round the back of the hotel and in the front entrance in the dark. We had to ask for the lights to be turned on. Varying levels of customer service. Not the authentic experience we had expected from the Cotswolds.

Review 27:Beautiful village, nice suite.

Review 28:dont no where to start.....the staff the accomodation the cheap and sparse decor the smell when first walked in the door....cheap and nasty and definately not good value for the money paid to stay there!....throughly spoiled my weekend in the costwolds

Review 29:The bed was far too soft. We couldn't sleep. They said they catered for gluten free options, but they didn't. The hotel smells very damp (it is very old). The food was microwaved and pappy.

Review 30:It was clean

Review 31:No wifi in room ,rooms not tidied properly ( waste still in my room bin on entry and coffee / tea not replaced ) Lighting missing ( bulbs ) Feeling of being run down

Review 32:Staff

Review 33:No prosecco ..not much choice of drinks in the bar ...eve meal was awful/overcooked, breakfast was good tho ..as were the female staff. Lovely room but Mattress and pillows hard ,now stiff neck!! No ambience in the bar/restaurant areas.

Review 34:We had to move room because of the smell of sewers from the bathroom, second room was exactly the same. Breakfast was awful. Bar does not open until 5. Nice area but extremely quiet and no taxis available.

Review 35:I liked leaving the next morning

Review 36:Rooms smelt, no bar until five pm, rotten breakfast, expensive bar £9.95 for a CAN of Guinness and vodka and lemonade, we made a fast exit the next day.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Barman very rude, other staff just ok, receptionist needs to learn some people skills & maybe better English as do the other staff.

Review 39:Clean room if a little cramped, the bathroom was also clean, breakfast was fair.

Review 40:Pillows too hard , food prices a bit high , staff rowing during breakfast service within earshot

Review 41:The village location is beautiful rooms a good size all really clean , breakfast was adequate

Review 42:The room was very old fashioned with damp in places. The carpet was very marked and stained did not think it was value for money. V disappointed.

Review 43:A lovely rural setting

Review 44:I stayed in an annexe of the hotel . Although compact , the room was well fitted out , excellent shower , tea & coffee . At breakfast the service was very efficient and the food faultless .

Review 45:Would have been nice for the bar to have been open during the day. Lack of staff though, perhaps the manager could have gotten off his backside and helped.

Review 46:The guy on duty was excellent even when put under massive pressure by his manager when on the phone to him when a customer was waiting. The manager phoning him should have let him off the phone to serve but didn't . We felt for him, not his fault at all. Room 20 was very good, warm and clean. Would definitely book again.

Review 47:The only thing we had an issue with was the headboard was badly fitted and we had no hot water in the morning due to power failure.

Review 48:Location was lovely, the food was very nice and the suite room was ok.

Review 49:Breakfast doesn't start until 8:30. So didn't get breakfast and too late ( 10:30pm ) to get sandwiches/continental alternative. No phone signal. Small sink in bathroom and loose tap. Narrow and steep entrance.

Review 50:Room was clean and if I'd got breakfast would have been ok.

Review 51:The bathroom was quite dirty, especially on walls. Also, there were many water stains on the walls in the bedroom. The bed's mattress was not comfortable.

Review 52:The location is great, and the staff is really welcoming!

Review 53:No reception on mobile phone. Room could have been abit more airer, as a little stuffy.

Review 54:Very friendly staff and excellent food in both restaurants. Breakfast was very nice too. Room was very clean, comfortable bed. Excellent location for visiting various places in the costwolds.

Review 55:staff not always available. Dirty carpets in the bedroom. Hot water not always available. Breakfast was kept warm in containers and served by staff who were not always available. Not the standard we expected but pleasant stay anyway.

Review 56:outside area was pretty as was the dining room

Review 57:Breakfast not available until 8.30 am, that's too late for business people. No internet access within the room, no TV reception.

Review 58:Nice village, friendly staff.

Review 59:same music tape played continuously throughout both dinner and breakfast.mournful singer. would have appreciated a full length mirror in bedroom.

Review 60:peace and quiet. nice staff. liked the detached room away from main hotel. good parking.

Review 61:the bed was lumpy and too soft. i didn't like a herb tea bag requested, was brought between index finger and thumb to the table for breakfast. no porridge for breakfast. buffet table was poor. tinned grapefruit. no fresh fruit waiter service was abominable. not properly trained service. eastern european kids

Review 62:the building was charming the suite was sweet.

Review 63:I thought my single bed mattress was a bit thin with prominent springs but the other two beds were ok. The room itself was great

Review 64:We booked last min and were accommodated straight away. Location was good and rooms were nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a very nice breakfast the next day. We would stay here again

Review 65:The entrance to the car park was a nightmare arrived in the dark no lighting up the drive in and parking was a nightmare

Review 66:The dining room but the service was extremely poor

Review 67:Staff were very polite and efficient but little 'warmth' or atmosphere in customer relations.

Review 68:Central location in a beautiful quiet Cotswold village with easy access to local sights and attractions. Although 'dated' the room was clean, comfortable and the water hot.

Review 69:The room facilities are quite outdated and wifi was pretty weak in the available areas. Food in the pub and at breakfast is average.

Review 70:The room was clean and the shower pressure really good.

Review 71:Nothing to do with the hotel, but unable to obtain mobile phone signals with 2 phones. Had to use hotel landline which we had to pay for.

Review 72:Loved the traditional features, food was very good and staff helpful. Village delightful and peaceful.

Review 73:Car parking was problem not just for the hotel but for all Blockley. The hotel has adequate parking but its through a tight gap and up a steep hill. Breakfast is not served until 8.30am.

Review 74:Comfortable room, traditional feel, reasonable food. Hard working pleasant staff.

Review 75:The manager spoke very broken English (Russian accent) and when we were trying to get local directions to the bus stop and other places, we couldn't understand him. Also had to ask for shampoo three different times.

Review 76:The fellow that works in the pub was very friendly and great conversationalist.

Review 77:1 location 2 too many steps on stairs,no lift, car park on steep hill, not disability friendly 3 no mention on web site of steep stairs 4 insufficient staffing 5 Quality of room with suiteway under expectation Although we books for 4 nights we left after 1 night

Review 78:As the hotel is very old the entrance to the car park is quite narrow if you have a large car.

Review 79:Room was the premier, it was a good size and comfortable. Used the restaurant both nights because the food was excellent. Staff were very friendly.

Review 80:Worst of all were the mattresses in our room number six. Without any exaggeration at all it was like sleeping on bags of coal. The mattresses were very cheap, old and the support had completely gone leaving holes lumps and ridges. And no mattress protectors. Decor of the hotel was peculiar to say the least and had obviously been painted with a stick by a blindfolded person. Grim, nasty and cheap. A lovely old building completely spoiled.

Review 81:The staff were brilliant, helpful, friendly and smiley! Food was mainly good, we only had a bar meal

Review 82:Breakfast very poor. Sausages hard and warm. Bacon had white scum. Toast only provided on request. No top ups of tea offered. No bar service for residents until after 5pm. TV in bar very small and unsuitable for watching sporting events.

Review 83:No signal available Breakfast not available before 08.30 - too late unless wanted a sandwich but fillings not suitable for breakfast Not really suitable for Business customers

Review 84:Atila on reception was helpful but limited due to things outside his control - need to be addressed by management/owners

Review 85:The mould in the bathroom and dampness the telly was not getting all the channels s the food was coldish and overcooked the desert was served the same time as the main course and when told about all the complaints the staff just said sorry with a attitude £200 wasted

Review 86:The area it was in that's all

Review 87:My room was very cold and some lighting didn't work but other group members had no problems

Review 88:Food was excellent and good value No complains from a family group with five rooms

Review 89:Room next door did play their music loudly late at night but Altar (I think his name was) got then to turn it down.... Eventually!

Review 90:Lovely village setting, room 24 had traditional period feature beams and unusual quirky layout.

Review 91:Lovely location , staff very friendly. On our arrival Ian greeted us and made us very welcome. We would come back again and recommend to our friends.Food lovely and served with a smile .

Review 92:It was quiet with no noise from the street or from within the hotel. The staff were most friendly. The food was fine and reasonably priced. The restaurant was most attractive.

Review 93:Difficult to access the car parking because of cars parked in the road immediately in front of the entrance.

Review 94:Polite Helpful staff. Lovely Village location.

Review 95:On the first 2 mornings breakfast was buffet style and on the last morning it was ordered and served by waiter. It was obvious that bacon, sausages were the previous days leftovers heated up

Review 96:The room was comfortable and spacious

Review 97:Would have liked to have been informed prior of the amount of stairs to get to the room & also within the room. You had to navigate several stairs to get to the bathroom. The room also had light globes & the T.V near the bed, not working.

Review 98:The room size was very generous.

Review 99:Very busy at breakfast. We had to wait for a table. Not sure why they didn't ask what time people wanted to eat to avoid this.

Review 100:Beautiful location, staff were very accommodating.

Review 101:Very disappointed indeed. We booked a "premier room" but there was nothing "premier" about it. It hadn't been decorated in decades by the look of things, and the bathroom was in a very sorry state, with an old bath, peeling paint, no fan, and a poor laid lino floor. The mattress was terrible - a cheap, springs only thing. The breakfast was very poor. They insist on serving you and their portions are frugal (I overheard the manager telling a server not to give anyone more than 1 and a half spoonfuls of mushrooms at most!). The staff were not rude but they were very far from welcoming. Not worth anything close to the ‎£140 we paid.

Review 102:The room was very tired looking. Signs of damp, especially in bathroom where there was black mould did on the ceiling. Very expensive for an average hotel, but typical Cotswold pricing.

Review 103:Lovely staff, excellent food.

Review 104:The location is quite inconvenient to use public transportation system. And taxi is also quite difficult to be found around there.

Review 105:I've stayed here with my family. Staffs were really kind for us, and the hotel is quite confutable to stay with beautiful landscape. Moreover, the dinner which we had was excellent! Even my ground mother who is 88 years old loved there.

Review 106:The hotel urgently needs investment and better attention to details that count- number of missing bulbs throughout the hotel A bit miserly with the tea served.

Review 107:The village itself was great.

Review 108:the English breakfast could of done with more on it, fried bread black pudding. although there was lots of extra to choose from, yoghurt, fresh grapefruit, croissants and bread rolls. the Wi-Fi could be extended to the whole hotel and not just the lobby. I'm sure some people aren't keen to view stuff on their devices with other people around

Review 109:the peace and quiet of the countryside, not being able to hear the traffic just the wildlife.

Review 110:No wifi at the hotel (reception). We got wifi when we walked around the village.

Review 111:The location is good if you drive. We did not bring our car. There is no bus service on Sunday which makes it difficult to get around. However, we walked a great deal and took in the lovely countryside.

Review 112:Room not clean, dirty behind the toilet, mould around shower, mattress in need of replacing, very bad state.staff were not properly trained

Review 113:Fantastic location, full of old world charm.

Review 114:Coffee was served luke warm at breakfast. When asked for it to be hotter, we were told it can only be served warm !?! The breakfast was disappointing. Mould on the ceiling of our bathroom was a little off putting but room was generally pleasant.

Review 115:Lovely location

Review 116:It was good to have a car park but for elderly people, such as we, the access is a bit steep. The restaurant food is good for short stay but becomes samey over a week. A bit pricey too.

Review 117:Hotel, with it's own car park, located in very attractive village. All staff very helpful and pleasant. Breakfasts excellent in well appointed dining room.

Review 118:* Expensive (50% dearer than a better Iron Bridge hotel).* Food not up to tariff. * Difficult vehicle access to tight hotel car park. * Not easy to find (especially on a GPS, which gets you to a street of the same name in nearby Moreton- on- the- Marsh).

Review 119:Nice main dining room.

Review 120:They need to replace the matresses in the twin room. Good in others

Review 121:This is a lovely hotel, staff are very helpful and quick. The rooms are brilliant, good size, nice bathrooms, plenty of hot water. The food in the bar was very good.

Review 122:Staff were very accommodating and served a special bar meal of sandwiches and chips to my friends who arrived late at 9.30pm. Rooms clean. Good brekkie. Quiet location

Review 123:When it got busy things fell apart a bit. One day we wanted a drink but he said he was too busy. Saturday breakfast was a nightmare. He ask us to hurry up and finish so other guests could get seated. If he knew there was a large number staying he should have made contingency plans

Review 124:Location was OK Sometimes the staff were amenable and the rooms were fine

Review 125:The room as located outside the main hotel building and was accessed via steps which contained treads which were 10 to 12 inches in height. these were very awkward for elderly people to negotiate in the dark especially as the security lighting wasnt working.

Review 126:Food was reasonable and the staff were friendly. The room was clean.

Review 127:The hotel was nice and quiet and the surrounding countryside was just what we wanted found staff very helpful the party with me also enjoyed their stay and location it is in we all enjoyed our stay.

Review 128:Room very basic bathroom cleanish grouting dirty dirty skirting board behind rads entrance not good , hill very steep aged aunt great difficulty getting down. Parked in road after 1st night.

Review 129:Staff friendly Food adequate

Review 130:Was driving up from Cornwall and SatNav telling me 9pm arrival. I tried ringing at 7.06, 7.56 (left a message on answerphone that wasn't returned) and at 8.23 to establish when they stopped serving food (and to place an order for what might be available). When I arrived at about 9.05pm I had to find somebody out the restaurant to book me in. A sign on reception said Last food orders at 8.45pm. I pointed out I had tried phoning and left a message; his response was he had been working in restaurant and so hadn't checked the phone! I requested if they could at least do a salad. He came back from kitchen and said no salad but could do a beef bourgeon which I gratefully ate (and admit it was good). Breakfast wasn't available until 8.30am which is useless for most people staying for business, although the waiter (different to evening before) did persuade the Chef to come up with some poached eggs about 8.20am. I wont be bothering to go there again

Review 131:The room was satisfactory

Review 132:This was a charming hotel with a lot of character, built in the 16th century We found it was in an ideal central position to visit all the places we really wanted to in the Cotswold's. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. The food was very good. They had a curry night on the Fridays and a very good Sunday lunch and dinner. The village itself is peaceful with a lot of lovely old properties. It has a well stocked shop with a good coffee shop next door.

Review 133:Staff attitude is poor, they want you done as soon as possible so they can lock up. Got told the restaurant was fully booked and there were 7 people in it. Shower was freezing no matter what you did, breakfast was rubbish.

Review 134:Nice quaint and quiet place, upgrade is good
