Reviews for The Whitestonecliffe Inn

Review 1:Tiny things but would have been nice - the outside lights were not on when I arrived in the dark....fell up the steps and trouble getting key in lock as it was so dark so outside light on when I arrived would have been nice. Couldn't find a hair dryer. There may have been one but I couldn't find it. A jug of milk in the fridge would have been a nice touch too. Tea, coffee, sugar was there but no milk. And no tea towel.

Review 2:I thought the self catering accommodation had been really well planned and was very nicely finished. It was clean, tidy and I felt very comfortable and cosy. No unnecessary clutter or 'stuff', tidy and neat which I was really impressed with. Super warm, great views and some lovely touches - the blankets on the sofa for example. Great shower, really powerful, lovely! Fantastic view of Sutton Bank and friendly sheep in the field from the stable front door. Outside furniture a nice touch too. My expectations were surpassed.

Review 3:Has accommodation for children but no outdoor facilities. Pub opening hours very restricted.

Review 4:Convenient parking right outside cottage. Friendly staff and locals. Great food.

Review 5:Our mattress was too firm for our liking, we are hoping for a softer one next visit.

Review 6:The location and quaintness of the cottages is a delight. The food served in the pub is excellent and the staff are superb. This was our third visit and we will definitely be returning. Beautiful views (ask to stay in rooms 4 or 5). We have never stayed in summer but imagine it would be a great base for exploring and well set out for evening drinks on the patio.

Review 7:Decor slightly dated but cottage contains everything you need. Cooked breakfast time was too late for us as we needed an early start.

Review 8:Cozy cottage, nice view (just a pity about the weather), very friendly staff

Review 9:Central heating didn't work. Staff offered two electric heaters after failing to get the heating working, which were borderline adequate. Shower was hot but very poor water flow (which managed to flow onto the floor through a gap at the bottom of the shower door). Broadband was intermittent and very poor when working. Cottage was very small e.g. no room for bags in the bunk-bedded room. No tea towel, salt cellar empty. Should I go on? Overall poor value for money. We have stayed in much better at a similar price.

Review 10:Lovely location. Cooker and fridge worked. Sofas were comfortable.

Review 11:The wifi was the worst thing about whitestoneclif. Poor reception in the pub and cottage. But no great shame.

Review 12:Really great place for a stay short or long stay. Very close to great scenery. The welcome was very good and the pub is just wot you would expect in a small village. The food was very good as well and not bad for the cost. I would recommend this to any one and we will definitely be staying again.

Review 13:Very stale pet smell on arrival that took a little while to fade. There was no facility to let the dog out of the cottage without her being on a lead as front door led straight onto car park and road. Interior lighting was very poor particularly noticeable at this time of year when trying to read after 5pm.

Review 14:Hospitality and friendliness of staff. Good access to other places both on foot and within easy driving distance. Provision of tea and coffee. Comfortable and clean bed - great sleep. Fabulous shower. Being able to access the open countryside with no effort at all.

Review 15:Real family welcome at this traditional pub. We were en route to the Lake District so very convenient to the A1 as a stopover. The fish and chips was superb, really fresh and good to have a chat over a beer with a top host. Good family facilities.

Review 16:Single bedroom little too cramped, but the bed was comfy.

Review 17:Nice and quiet spot, great pub next door with fantastic food. Loved the outlook onto the neighbouring farm.

Review 18:We were two couples and I drew the short straw so had the top bunk! I managed well and had a very comfortable sleep but it could cause problems to someone less agile, getting in and out of the bed.

Review 19:Wonderful views, very animal and wildlife friendly, lots of walks from the village. A friendly welcome from the owners, well equipped cottage, comfortable. Lovely pub part of the complex with superb food.

Review 20:Almost impossible to get a phone signal to make calls or send texts even with the free wifi. A minor issue in the grand scheme of things though.

Review 21:Beautiful location, cosy cottage, friendly staff and gorgeous food in the bar/restaurant. Shame we couldn't have stayed longer.

Review 22:Could have done with some hooks in the bathroom, but that was all!

Review 23:Very comfortable bungalows, where 3 adults could chill out together in the evening and after a day out. The continental breakfast was very good too. The staff were friendly, and were eager to help. Lovely food in the pub.

Review 24:no one at the Inn when we arrived to give us the keys only a very small complaint! Please add instructions for Cooker, etc., Thank You

Review 25:evening meal delivered to cottage OUTSTANDING!!!! Lovely Cottage enjoyed our stay so so very much. Thank You

Review 26:The description on the website was incorrect and misleading not asadvertised. There was only 1 double bedroom & bunk beds in a smallroom which was too small with no room to accommodate a chair, wardrobeor suitcase so in effect you had to use the lounge as a 2nd bedroom andclimb a ladder to scramble across a top bunk. Absolutely no good forolder people but would suit young couple with children. Websiteinformation is incorrect and pictures do not show exactly what you aregoing to receive.

Review 27:Location was handy for the Racecourse

Review 28:Lovey location in the countryside with a relaxing walk straight from the cottages. The inn does good homemade pub grub. Owners and staff are friendly and helpful. We were lucky enough to get a one night booking but I'm sure they will usually look for full week bookings. There is enough in the area to keep you occupied if you have a car. The cottage (no 2) was small so fine for two people but would be a be cramped for four. Enjoyed our stay.

Review 29:Menu in info book was different when we got into the pub for our evening meal. Wifi reception was hopeless.

Review 30:Well equipped accommodation. View from lounge window was wonderful. Felt very comfortable. Continental breakfast brought to our room.

Review 31:Bathroom needed updating. The owners are new to the hospitality industry and this shows in their lack of customer service and professionalism but no doubt this will improve in time

Review 32:Spacious self catering cottage with beautiful scenic backdrop

Review 33:Stayed just the one night after meeting up with friends and spending the afternoon in Helmsley one of the girls is getting married and lives in malton so arranged afternoon tea and a few drinks so would need somewhere to stay to carry on celebrating with drinks later. Once we had unpacked we went into whitestonecliffe inn for tea and drinks the food was gorgeous the best "pub grub" I've had in a long time the waitress 'vonnie' was lovely the service was fab. We stayed a while then went back to cottage literally feet away from the pub door to carry on our little hen do. We opened the blinds the following morning to a horse in a field and glorious sunshine with amazing views.we sat outside for breakfast and then got on our way..... Wish we'd have stayed the two nights!! The cottage is ideal for what we wanted and would book again with no hesitation.
