Reviews for Chester House Hotel

Review 1:Being called mate by the waiter and barman and having condiments taken away during our evening meal.

Review 2:Hotel was clean and comfy. Wouldnt want to have the room we had if it was summer due to it being in the garden at the rear.

Review 3:I can't compliment the staff of Chester House Hotel enough! Nothing was too hard, they went out of their way to help! Rooms were spacious and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 4:Was hoping to have Xmas menu after seeing it on line but was told on getting to the restaurant that it was not possible without pre booking! It may well have said that on line but it wasn't apparent - disappointed with that as it was the day after Boxing Day

Review 5:Atmosphere excellent Food in The Croft fantastic

Review 6:Heating was not always on, which in the month of December was a priority. Rather small bathroom.

Review 7:Central location in a lovely village near the shops, pubs and restaurants. Value for money room in a pleasant quiet hotel.

Review 8:Dont have enought parking area for us when we arrive but staff had tried to find the parking area for us that was so kind.

Review 9:Good staff, Good breakfast, Good location

Review 10:Loved everything.

Review 11:The staff were so friendly and helpful... Nothing was too much bother for any of them. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Our evening meal in the Bistro was superb. 10/10

Review 12:In my view the price that we paid was considerably more than most of our fellow guests had paid. Should have booked direct with Chester House Hotel.

Review 13:Extremely friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. Quality of breakfast and evening meal was very good. Excellent location.

Review 14:a bit noisy from 6am onwards, road cleaning!!! and deliveries.

Review 15:Whole experience, from arrival to departure, staff were most helpful, breakfast was excellent and the bed extremely comfortable

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Perfect location, right in the centre of Bourton. Very friendly staff who showed me to the room which is rare these days. Had my evening meal in the Italian restaurant, great food and keenly priced.

Review 18:While our room #14 was lovely, and the gorgeous four poster bed comfortable, the shower was problematic: very low water pressure and variable hot water changing in the middle of the shower. Bath worked better. Yes, we know it's an old building, but a good shower is especially important to my husband.

Review 19:Chester House is slightly off the main, busier part of town; while not necessarily a quiet location, it's very convenient. We enjoyed watching the street activities below from our window. Breakfast was always delicious, and dinner at the in-house restaurant was very good, too.

Review 20:only minor complaint was shower in our bathroom- not enough pressure to reach first floor room, so had to use bath all weekend rather than cold shower, as no hot water could reach us. Plumbing overhaul needed i think as hotel is lovely old building!

Review 21:hotel location was perfect in centre of Bourton. Had its own restaurants which we tried on 2 night-both of which food and service were excellent.

Review 22:I love poached eggs but unfortunately don't like vinegar, if I had known the chefs method of poaching I wouldn't have ordered them.

Review 23:The staff were all cheerful and friendly, a genuine feeling that they were happy in their work.

Review 24:Extremely disappointed with the noise from overhead rooms. This completely spoiled what should have been a pleasant trip to the Cotswolds. Not what you expect from a hotel of this rating. Would not recommend.

Review 25:There is nothing I didn't like.

Review 26:The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The rooms and the facilities were beautiful and the food was amazing.

Review 27:Quite close to bus stop and the tourist info center. The room was very cozy, although it's not very big. We had a very sound sleep. A good sleep and a very delicious two-egg full English breakfast in the morning are really wonderful for exhausted tourists.

Review 28:The shower in one of the seven rooms didn't seem to be working properly.

Review 29:The staff and service were outstanding. Massively accommodating. Went out of their way to meet our needs. Food was excellent.

Review 30:It's lovely location did have one drawback: parking. I arrived late so had to park in a random place away from the hotel and the get up early to find a space. If you arrived earlier you might be ok. But the lack of parking was a bit stressful. Staff did everything they could to help though, so I appreciated that.

Review 31:Lovely hotel with fantastic staff who were very helpful with my late arrival and parking issues! It was very comfortable with lovely bed and nice bathroom and the breakfast was gorgeous. Very nicely located right in the heart of the village.

Review 32:The family room we stayed looked comfortable and decor is country chic (not our taste but may suit others). It was cold at night due to no room central heating maybe because it was still last week of August so didn't sleep well. Could hear the bar noise from downstairs within our room quite late into the night so not very sound insulated. Breakfast - staff could at least ask how you like your eggs question with the options. Maybe he forgot!

Review 33:Chester house was very easy to find with great access to the Cotswolds area. It's very pleasant, clean place to stay with convenient car parking space for guests, with a lovely guest house manager and also a great breakfast choice.

Review 34:Confusion at breakfast, more training needed. Tea and coffee stains on wall near bin in room. Asked for quiet room which was ignored, put over main road and restaurant.

Review 35:Central location The style and decoration of the hotel. The welcome from the reception staff.

Review 36:Nothing at all - perfect

Review 37:The hotel was excellent and situated really central to everything. Had a fabulous time place absolutely beautiful - will definitely be coming back.

Review 38:There were issue with parking and staff seemed more concerned With where we had parked than checking us in.The restaurant closed early and there was no room service available.

Review 39:The location was nice

Review 40:Room 14 and the four poster bed very uncomfortable and the decor very dark and miserable The Croft restaurant very limited and over priced but that was par for the course in the area

Review 41:Staff where very helpful Patio garden great on a fine day The Italian restaurant in the main building was very pleasant

Review 42:Poor wi-fi in room.

Review 43:Love the location and access to everything in Cotswold. Friendly staff and excellent room (#8), comfy bed and large bathroom (love the complimentary duck) and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 44:Not much to dislike; Motel-style room with no direct access from the main hotel building (but that was not much of an inconvenience).

Review 45:Friendly and helpful staff; Comfortable public areas - lounge and bar; Excellent restaurant; Good quality, freshly-cooked breakfast; Superb location; Free parking.

Review 46:The wifi on the extended network was very slow although it was a small concern

Review 47:Great location and friendly staff. Characterful place which feels very cosy and comfortable from the moment you walk in. The rooms are sufficient and the full proper English breakfast is great! We toured the Cotswolds for 2 days from this base and Chester House is the perfect place to stay for such a drive around.

Review 48:Booked the English restaurant and having arrived a few minutes early was given a table but staff then catered for people arriving after us. Had to ask for drinks and menus as 20 minutes had elapsed. A bit disappointing as everything else was really good.

Review 49:Friendly staff. Located central to the Cotswolds. A relaxing break.

Review 50:I would improve my stay by having free wifi in the rooms as well as the communal area downstairs. I would also have liked if the TV has better signal as some channels were intermittant.

Review 51:The staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was comftable and the bed was particulary soft. The location was perfect and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 52:Wifi is only available in the bar which was a little disappointing.

Review 53:The location in Bourton on the Water was perfect. Staff are really pleasant and friendly. The hotel is very comfortable and clean. Food was great and satisfying. I would definitely stay again and recommend others to stay.

Review 54:Wifi pretty weak & only in central bar/lobby - would have been good to be able to pay & have it in rooms.

Review 55:Extremely clean, great beds and room facilities. Central location & amazing breakfast.

Review 56:Nothing to dislike.

Review 57:Staff were friendly and helpful. Cleanliness of room and other areas was excellent. The location couldn't be better. The hotel has a large car park.

Review 58:Room 22 - No TV remote available therefore no TV available to watch and could not eben turn chanels over on the tv, did advise reception, they was aware and said a new tv was on order didint help us as there was very poor signal in the rooms so could not use our phones for signals either.Bathroom was very tiny and a very poor shower, no pressure and the water did not cover you so u hadto hold the shower head to wash.

Review 59:Location was great, breakfast one of the best ive had superb, friendly staff, restaurant great, had a lovely meal in the evening and room very clean with very comfy bed

Review 60:We loved everything in the hotel, the hospitalty, the helpfulness of the staff, the very pleasent, clean room, the breakfast, the fairytail-location. Thank you very much!!

Review 61:The staff was friendly. The location of the hotel is great. The room was clean, pretty and really nice. I really enjoyed my stay. The duck I was given is really cute.

Review 62:We did not get the help required to change a light bulb in the bathroom. No wi-fi in the rooms, only in the reception aerea. They closed the restaurant an hour early because there were no guests. When we arrived it took some time before they decided to serve us after all.

Review 63:Wonderfull big rooms with excellent beds, large bathrooms. The location was superb. We would love to go back!

Review 64:wi fi only worked in lounge downstairs.

Review 65:Clean neat room. We were in older section of hotel which was full of character and is in centre of village near river. Beautiful little village, with plenty to see and do. We had a car and were able to visit many other cute little villages etc nearby. Very relaxing and picturesque spot. Plenty of pubs etc for meals.

Review 66:Car parking is a nightmare. People don't park where they ate asked to by the staff. Water pressure very bad, shower was a waste of time. Wi fi pnly available in bar area???

Review 67:Very friendly and helpful

Review 68:We couldnt fault the hotel from the minute we arrived to the minute we checked out, everything was just great. And the pizza we had in the Italian restaurant was the best we have had outside Italy!

Review 69:Minor issues with squeaky bathroom door, low headroom on a doorframe on one of the corridors and broken-up reception on the in-room television.

Review 70:Rooms very clean, bright, comfortable and modern with excellent ensuite facilities. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice.

Review 71:We loved our room. The breakfast and we ate out at the bistro. They were all superb. The staff were charming and helpful. We are hoping to return.

Review 72:Only thing was the wifi could only be used in the lounge area. Which was a bit of a pain as my telephone reception was poor in the area itself . obviously this is something beyond the hotels control

Review 73:Staff were very polite and friendly and happy to help. The room was lovely and comfortable and on the ground floor which was good for us as my mum is not a fan of stairs

Review 74:Car parking spaces were too close together and not enough parking spaces for the number of rooms

Review 75:Close to town and restaurants. Close to many pretty villages in the Cotswolds

Review 76:Room less than ideal. Rather narrow and dark and felt somewhat confined. Excessive noise from room occupants above moving about - soundproofing not very good.

Review 77:Good location, helpful staff. Food good in adjacent restaurant.

Review 78:The only thing is the maintenance man started mowing, drilling and sawing at 7.50 in the morning right outside our room!

Review 79:Staff were welcoming, the room was spacious and clean, beds made and room tidied every day. The location was very good within a beautiful village and not far from going on days out.

Review 80:Not cleaned, hotel need refurbishment Tomatoe sauce on restaurant walls, filthy placemates and greasy menu. We did not seat in the garden as the tables were dirty. loose garden pots didn't do any good to the outside terrace.Restaurant and breakfast below average

Review 81:comfort of bed, very good quality.Location, away from main street ,still located in the heart of bourton on water

Review 82:Breakfast waitress could smile a bit, not look so grumpy.

Review 83:Great room with large bed, lovely stone feature wall, great bathroom and fantastic location in a very pretty town.

Review 84:Wasn't keen on the breakfast. The cooked option wasn't great for vegetarians.

Review 85:The room was bug and spacious, great location in Barton-on-the-Water. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

Review 86:Nothing!

Review 87:Attentive staff, clean, spacious rooms, great breakfast, comfy bed, superb location in the heart of the Cotswolds. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Review 88:Breakfast could have been a bit larger but what there was, was very nice.

Review 89:Plenty of parking, friendly helpful staff, superb quality room plus being based in the middle of the village all facilities were easily accessible on foot

Review 90:Parking a bit hard to come by at times and shower pressure a bit weak, although bath pressure (and size) very good. Minor gripes really.

Review 91:Great central location, yet away from the crowds. Very friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable room and nice personal touches (Easter Egg hidden in room and a free rubber duck!).

Review 92:The décor in the rooms did not reflect he rest of the hotel. Bold striped wallpaper and dark emulsion was a shame. Pretty pastel floral sprigged wallpaper would be so much nicer. Shower was also not really strong enough but bath was lovely and deep.

Review 93:Breakfast was fab and beautifully cooked. Staff were very polite ad helpful, Lovely seating areas.

Review 94:I would maybe suggest they keep smokers away from the entrance door

Review 95:I thought the staff was very friendly and accomodating, the large bedroom was good value for money with its comfortable bed and lovely clean big bathroom. I also enjoyed the two restaurants, one of which wasinside the same building. Nice relaxing and cosy areas to sit around comfortably for a chat and drink in the evening.

Review 96:The hotel, food, bed, staff were absolutely amazing!! Could not fault anything about the hotel! It's set in the most beautiful location and the two restaurants serve lovely food. The breakfast was also really good! Thank you Chester House!

Review 97:Nothing to report apart from a larger parking area which the hotel has little control over.

Review 98:The location of the hotel couldn't have been better. The staff were excellent and a credit to the hotel. Very comfortable and clean.

Review 99:Friendly staff yes, but they aren't the most attentive in the restaurant. It was tricky to catch their eye to get served ... The walls in the room must be very thin because we easily heard our neighbours. It seemed like the early risers in the wedding party downstairs all spoke to each other in Brian Blessed voices!

Review 100:The hotel is in a really pretty location, set one road back from the main centre. The town is great to wander around with plenty of small shops with products made locally such as candles, perfume and a bakery. Fabulous breakfast served by friendly staff.

Review 101:This our second visit and the hotel continues to shine! Great staff, beautiful location and a very relaxed atmosphere made our two night stay very enjoyable, what more can I say treat yourself!!.The breakfast is really excellent with a great choice of food. Evening meal is either in the Italian restaurant in the hotel or their other restaurant over the road, which is again, excellent. We will definitely be visiting again.

Review 102:Room 14 noisy form plumbing and other occupants, next to fire door, up fairly steep stairs, drenched by bathroom tap, and no wifi in rooms. No reception staff for checkout up to about 8.45am on Saturday.

Review 103:Convenient position and cosy bar area. parking no problem

Review 104:pleasant stay in a great location to explore th Cotswolds. Staff were fri daly and the hotel had everything we needed. Both restaurants were great too.

Review 105:WiFi not reliable/available (temporary glitch). Car parking limited/tight

Review 106:Assistance given by reception staff and attention to detail by bar/restaurant staff

Review 107:Wifi was only available in public areas, which didn't bother us much, but would have been nice to have got it in our room

Review 108:We stayed in the most wonderful room ( number 10!) and had an amazing stay. Friendly staff, excellent location and brilliant night sleep. Would 1000% recommend this hotel!

Review 109:That I couldn't get wifi in my room, only in public area.

Review 110:Location in the centre of Bourton, the large bedroom and lovely bathroom, friendliness of the staff, car parking, excellent breakfast in nice dining area and a complimentary rubber duck for the bath!

Review 111:Only slight negative is that free wifi is only in the reception area, but given the layout of the building, it is impractical to be able to facilitate wifi in every room

Review 112:Size of room Free parking Excellent breakfast

Review 113:All of hotel was very cold. even the receptionist wore a coat and scarf! Luckily room had an extra heater in and we did need to use it all the time on max. No light on dressing table and it was dark in the corner, so really needed there Wi Fi not available in room- only in reception( and too cold to sit in there) Poor choice of breakfast juices and even those were not replaced when empty.

Review 114:Position, menu OK and room decor good

Review 115:Somehow we managed to miss the sign on the front of the hotel and managed to not just drive past it twice but even walk past whilst trying to find it! Maybe the sign could be better lit?

Review 116:Nicely appointed, comfortable, warm and friendly.

Review 117:Wifi only worked in the lounge. Certain rooms have terrible use of wallpaper, even on pictures on the walls.

Review 118:Perfect location and friendly staff, great food, spacious room, comfy bar and lounge.

Review 119:our phone network doesn't have good coverage in Cotswold so have to rely on wifi but the signal was only limited to just the lobby area.

Review 120:Nice pleasant stay. Friendly staff, clean room and very comfortable bed and hotel have us free room upgrade. Overall is a perfect stay.

Review 121:price is too high for the quality of the room. Room not perfectly clean. Bathroom.

Review 122:location. Staff. Little rubber duck found as a present in the room. Room decoration.

Review 123:Room 9 no outlook just a fence outside the window.

Review 124:Great public areas Very clean Fantastic staff Good bathroom Very good restaurant Great location

Review 125:A little pricey. £99 for a nov date and second visit. Toilet extremely hard to flush with a push in handle on the front needed two hands!!

Review 126:Chester house was in an ideal and perfect location. Bourton on the water is one of my favourite places in the world as i spent many a happy Sunday and it hasnt changed much!! So keep returning. This was our second visit and a bday treat for my partner although I must admit was being selfish and for me too! The place itself was warm and inviting. The decor was up to date and everywhere impeccably clean and well looked after. Breakfast was served promptly and was excellent. Parking could have been easier or better too. We will be back.

Review 127:The room. It smelled stuffy on arrival and we couldn't really get rid of the smell even with windows open the whole time, kettle was full of lime scale, shower had black mold around the base, paint was chipped on woodwork, wallpaper peeling in places, oppressive decor, I could go on but you get the picture...and this was a 'luxury' room! Our stay was a birthday present for my partner - I could have cried.

Review 128:Staff in the restaurant were absolutely lovely and food was very good

Review 129:Bit if a wait for breakfast, but only because most people decided to eat at the same time.

Review 130:General ambience, great standard of accommodation and really helpful, friendly staff.

Review 131:One small thing: No hairdryer in the room

Review 132:The hotel was excellent, right in the middle of the village. Staff were very helpful and friendly.Room was lovely and bed very comfortable and clean.

Review 133:I love this hotel, it has a small friendly bar area, the bedroom was spacious and comfortable. The bar area turns into an italian restaurant 5 days a week in the evening and offers take away pizzas and the food is excellent. The hotel owns a restaurant across the street which is also excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a lovely garden seating area for sunny days.

Review 134:That we couldn't stay longer!!

Review 135:Location was very important. It has everything on your doorstep, good hotels, pubs and a variety of shops. Chester a House was very welcoming and comfy. A real home from home.

Review 136:Bathroom shower didn't work, and the window blind wind cord broken. Breakfast staff need a lot of training, too full of themselves, not enough attention to detail, ask for toast on two a casinos, the young girl brought only one round each, asked for more, it arrived 10 mins later, hardly could tell it was toast.

Review 137:Deirdre the Receptionist very nice person on arrival, hotel parking excellent, room was ok, we had a very nice meal at The Croft, would recommend it.

Review 138:Room (number 7) although large, had two single beds that we did not want as well as the double that we did want, lacked any real style, could have done with refurbishment and was situated over the dining area so a little noisier than those in the courtyard parking area. The en-suite bathroom door would not close. If staying get one of the other rooms!

Review 139:Perfect location. Good breakfast.

The Fine Print

Please note that there are only 18 car parking spaces available and there are 22 bedrooms in the property so there is a limited amount of parking.
