Reviews for The Waverley Hotel
Review 1:The location of the hotel is close to all amenity's. The suite was very comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly.
Review 2:the staff were ver rude and the night person on reception started arguing with me that i had not paid eventually the manager came which it took me at least 5 times to ask to see him he is a nice guy and helpful he then sorted out the issue which was i had to sign something why the other guy could not do this i do not know . would i stay here again im not so sure now but thank you to the manager
Review 3:The shower, plug hole needed unblocking as it filled up with water quite quickly. Hot water was slow to come on which didn't help the situation.
Review 4:The room was cleaned daily to a high standard, street views good and location very close to town and the cinema! Full English was ok, the coffee at breakfast was good and the hash browns were a winner!
Review 5:Mattress was awlfull had a terrible nights sleep could feel the springs. The Windows rattled all night. Our first room had a tissue on the window seal and no hot water and a dry blood stain on the sheets cover. Breakfast wasn't the best tbh. For an extra tenner go to the premier inn. We stayed at the premier inn for our second night as this hotel wasn't for us.
Review 6:Room cramped, daughters fold up camp bed with no duvet just a blanket and dated room
Review 7:The hotel was in a good quiet side street just off the sea front with free parking with a permit free from reception the room was small and our 4 year old had to sleep on a camp bed just on the floor in the middle of the room however the room was clean if a little dated no channels on the TV the water was hot in the bathroom and the tea/coffe making were ok too the room had a slightly musty odour the breakfast was top notch and included with the cost of our room £50 so all in all a cheap and cheerful stay
Review 8:Lift outdated radiator in bedroom did not work window was screwed down cracks around the walls and door bed was very uncomfortable view from bedroom was of rubbish and debris
Review 9:Full breakfast friendly staff
Review 10:Staff very welcoming and professional - the manager remembered our names and room number the first time we collected our key after the initial check-in. Free parking permit was a lovely surprise, as was being able to park on the same street - other hotels we have had to pay for permits and park up to 15 mins walk away.
Review 11:Couldn't find our booking when we got there. Staff didn't really seem to know what they were doing. Could have been a little cleaner. Had a dirty towel. Bed was so uncomfortable.
Review 12:The breakfast was nice. Room was nice and spacious with nice decor. Shower was nice and warm.
Review 13:Heating in the room is poor, not warm enough for a comfortable sleep. Car parking facility is no good, well given a parking display ticket but told to find a street without restricted notice
Review 14:Staff is good, specially who served breakfast are very good. And the location is good, near to beach and the shops
Review 15:We had a room that faces the front of the hotel & it was very noisy they could do with putting double glazing as you could hear everything that was going on outside.
Review 16:The hotel was very clean & rooms comfy & clean.
Review 17:I was there for work purpose and there was no wifi in the room and no heating!I complained about it and was told wifi only works in communal areas & was provided with fan heaters!
Review 18:Being ignored as though i was too much effort. Or is it 'staff' are uncomforta ble with lone travellers.
Review 19:Locationi did not like being ignored by all the staff, or made to wait for a table because i was a solo traveller. I am not invisible because i am a lone traveller.
Review 20:Having stayed in many similar Hotels throughout the UK and abroad, there were a few small failings at the Waverly. First of all, there were no Folders in the Room giving details of the Hotel, it's services, times, facilities etc. Secondly, regarding the Breakfast and Facilities - the choice of Breakfast Cereals was extremely poor - Corn Flakes or Bran Flakes! A greater selection should be made available. Also, get rid of the silver Domed heaters used for the cooked Breakfast; they do not keep the Breakfast items hot and can cause the build up of bacteria inside confined spaces through condensation; the cooked breakfast items were barely warm. Also the Breakfast time should be extended (8 to 9 is not long enough) it should be 7:30 to 9:30. Thirdly, the general maintenance in the Rooms needs improvement - two light bulbs had gone in our room and had not been replaced and the plug in the bathroom sink did not fit properly, since the water leaked out when filled. Finally, the Reception was often unmanned and on occasions was covered by young lads who were rather scruffy in appearance and clearly had a lack of Customer service training. The only other comment we must add is don't visit this Hotel if there is a large Party of OAP's staying, since you are suddenly treated as secondly class citizens in favour of the Pensioners, who are allowed to enter the Breakfast room well before all other guests, at least half an hour before the stipulated time and are also given preferential seating. My wife and I along with several other guests found ourselves shoved to the very back of the Breakfast room, as soon as the OAP Group arrived, having previously been seated at the front of the room close to the Breakfast facilities.
Review 21:The Hotel was a warm & friendly hotel, the Suite we stayed in was lovely and the general ambiance was very good.
Review 22:Hotel bar closed at 9.00pm on the Sunday evening. The hot water to the bathroom was non existent.
Review 23:Professional polite staff except the receptionist who found it difficult to explain the car parking arrangements to us.We did not know where zone A covered and tge explanation was very confusing.
Review 24:None
Review 25:A value for money hotel. Comfortable. Attentive staff but not lntrusiive.. This was our second stay and improvements have been made and appear to be ongoing. Breakfast was good, well cooked and presented, buffet style, so have what you want.
Review 26:The bedroom had carpet pieces removed near curtain areas.showing the spikes of the carpet bar.other than that clean room .parking permits are fine but no nearby parking
Review 27:The manager the breakfast the location
Review 28:The lift (which i had to use as disabled) seemed very victorian and 'jumpy'. The main problem was the main street parking (although free) or i should say the lack of spaces due to the popularity of the area and the town being so busy.
Review 29:Very pleasant, friendly and helpful staff.Very comfortable king size bed, good airy rooms.
Review 30:My bed had seen better days and wasn't particularly comfortable; my only other gripe was that my room smelled of smoke (certainly not the hotel's fault but a previous selfish guest).
Review 31:Good location; friendly accommodating staff, clean room, good street parking arrangement, generous breakfast, excellent value for money.
Review 32:The rooms could do with new carpets as I have a dust mite allergy and carpets are very old
Review 33:This is our 2nd stay lovely friendly atmosphere and near the seafront rooms are what we asked for, at the front pleasant stay again
Review 34:Breakfast is between 8 - 9 which is not long enough, if you have a night out you dont want to get up early also they have no fruit just toast and buffet fried breakfast.
Review 35:Bedroom was very nice and comfortable.
Review 36:They were doing upgrading carpets and you had to be careful going to and from your room, also breakfast times were tight so if your were late going down you struggled for a table, Also the shower leaked onto the floor when in use so had to be careful of slipping on floor
Review 37:Staff were helpful and polite,
Review 38:Parking is a bit hit and miss - the hotel will provide a parking permit but you have to find a space in the street which can be a challenge when its busy.
Review 39:Great location near the seafront and pier. Staff very nice and attentive at breakfast - plenty of choice at breakfast too.
Review 40:Lack of car parking space near to the hotel.
Review 41:Good location. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are very clean. Plenty of food available at breakfast.
Review 42:We found not having a carpark a bit of an inconvenience the first day but when we got parking in the road the hotel gave us a free permit.
Review 43:We liked the position of the hotel. The staff very obliging and helpful at all times.
Review 44:Wifi not available from room, only down stairs and very slow, parking a nightmare
Review 45:Very friendly staff, good clean room, close to the beech and town centre
Review 46:When booking did ask for ground floor but didn't have a ground flooras mother is disabled. Good job me and my partner could cope with her inelevator and the few stairs after the hotel were good enough to move herroom to another location with few steps and not far from lift. Parkingwas a joke as asked for free parking when ordering and had to dropmother off at hotel then find a space with the ticket we had been given.First night over 1/2 mile away ..
Review 47:Parking terrible, given parking pass but had to Park streets away from the hotel
Review 48:Brilliant location,seafront only a minute away,staff really friendly,lovely breakfast
Review 49:Through no fault of the hotel, parking in the area was difficult as spaces were taken!
Review 50:The staff at the Waverly hotel were very polite and welcoming, we arrived early and they allowed us to leave our luggage with them before check in time and provided us with a free parking permit! Our room was clean and had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable! Breakfast was served as a buffet but was still fresh and delicious! Couldnt have asked for more :)
Review 51:Very noisy location. Also, no sign of any fruit for breakfast and thewater in the room was only fizzy. They advertise free parking, but itwas terribly difficult to find anywhere. I think it must have takenalmost an hour when we arrived, driving around trying to find somewhereto put the car.
Review 52:no bunk beds for children, even though double bed was sufficient, Also TV in room 206 was on the wrong wall, cause when door to main bedroom opened it blocked view of tv. Also need more milk cartons for tea.
Review 53:we didnt have a room by the lift which so it was nice and quite.
Review 54:I was in room 212 and what wasn't wrong with it. The windowdidn't lock so you could just push it open when it's suppose tobe locked so I didn't think my belongings were safe. The bed was themost uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on and the toilet roll handleand hand towel holder both came off in my hands. The shower doorwouldn't open as was getting stuck as not put on properly and thetoilet wouldn't stop flushing and filling itself up once having usedthe toilet and water was leaking out the bottom of the toilet onto thefloor. I told the hotel about the problems and they just didn'tcareless. When coach parties are there then the other guests get pushedto the side as they care for them more then the other guests. And theroom was very small! If you compare this room to other single rooms inthe hotel (room 210) they should not be charging the same price, as room210 is much bigger and the bed is almost a double bed! I wouldntrecommend this hotel to anyone!!
Review 55:Stairs after using lift to 2,nd floor rnot good with people with knee problems and NO wi fi on that floor also NO ramp on main entrance steps!!!!!! ,parking in street having to put permit in car every day of your stay its free!!!!.
Review 56:Locality and peaceful
Review 57:Unfortunately the hotel charged me twice for the room. Found their response very unhelpful. Called several times and at no time did they ever get back to me. They seem unable or unwilling to check their booking records to confirm their error. For this reason cannot recommend.
Review 58:One if my rooms had bad smell from sink. On inspection, it had no trap fitted! Windows single glazed, frames fitting badly in one room.
Review 59:OK but for my didn't likes
Review 60:No free WiFi and bed to soft for me but was complimented with extra pillows which is fantastic.
Review 61:Excellent location, friendly staff, massive family room which is very clean and bathroom is very clean.
Review 62:All great
Review 63:Great location newly decorated we had the family room lots of space and big bathroon. Friendly staff good breakfast very clean would highly recommend this hotel
Review 64:The WiFi didn't work in our room but it was at the very end of a corridor. Bearing in mind we were only there for one night, it did not really matter. If we did need access I would have tried from the ground floor lounge. Car parking is a headache as it is all on road parking and during our stay every road was full. The hotel does give you a parking permit to park for free in the road but you find a space!
Review 65:The price ! A double room with en suite for £55. Last minute booking for that night.
Review 66:Poor wifi but really that wasn't a problem for us.
Review 67:We liked everything about our stay and would definitely stay there again. Our room was fantastic plenty big enough for our young family of 5.
Review 68:All a bit drab from staff to decor to bedrooms. Very little colour to lighten the place i.e no pictures on walls of coridoors, black furniture in restaurant area. Maybe coloured by disappointment overall with Great Yarmouth which certainly wasn't a plac where we felt comfortable. Thank goodness for Norwich and the Broads
Review 69:Located close to the Beach and in easy reach of town. Free street parking made available by the hotel
Review 70:I liked the fact our request for a seaview room was met. Friendly staff on hand and a very clean room. A good breakfast and we'll orchestrated, even with coach trips in, everything ran smoothly and no long queues.
Review 71:The beds were too soft for my back and the showers need updating. The bed accessories were a little grubby and need replacing or not nessecary.
Review 72:The staff, breakfast and cleanlyness of the hotel and rooms. The front desk staff were well trained, polite and always smiling. The dinning room staff were on the ball and went that extra mile for you.
Review 73:Could have had more choice of cereals for breakfast - as we was travelling with small children it would have been nice to have something like frosties, weetabix or rice crispies
Review 74:Brilliant location. staff really helpful. Lovely big family room
Review 75:Very disappointed with the hotel, from seeing the room for the1st time, extremely cramped, couldn't even fully open the en suite door, bed was in way. Over powering smell of bleach in bathroom. Bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was very disappointing . Staff were miserable.
Review 76:The location to the town
Review 77:The lift is quite noisy, and can be heard in rooms near it.
Review 78:Room was very clean. Bathroom was very clean, recently updated, and everything worked perfectly.
Review 79:Although there was WF in hotel it was only downstairs in dinning room and lounge would have been nice to have it in the bedrooms
Review 80:loved the hotel, staff were very friendly and polite nice relaxing atmophere,
Review 81:I made a last minute booking and on one of the busiest weekends of theyear (and a hot sunny one forecast at that) I didn't expectanything too wonderful from any hotel that still had rooms available.Yarmouth was heaving when we arrived. Well I was very pleasantlysurprised. Bits of the hotel are not in the first flush of youth (thelift is scarily clanky and creaky and only holds 2 people - but atleast there is a lift, I've been in many similar sized hotels thatdon't), and the corridors are a total maze (with musak), but thereception/bar/lounge/dining room are very nice, it'svery well located - Princes Road is quiet, 5 minutes stroll to the promand pier, about the same to Regent Road where you can buy/eatpretty much anything you want. Our room was very clean, verycomfortable, spotless white bed linen and towels, it wasn't hugeand it overlooked the back yard but it was very quiet. Breakfast wasgood, self-service but with loads of helpful staff milling about toclear plates, make toast etc. I gave up trying to find a parking space(yes they gave me a permit, but where to use it on such a busyweekend?). On Euston Road is a "park all day for £6" behind ablock of flats, which for Saturday 6pm to 9am with a 5 minute walk backto the hotel seemed a far better bet. You can allegedly park in thenearer lapdancing club car park for £7 but I never managed to findanyone to pay for the barrier key.I'd go back here cheerfully, for what we paid I was very satisfied. I think lack of car park would be my main negative, but the location compensates for that.
Review 82:wifi wouldn't work on iPad whilst there? Had to park a fair way away, although appreciate this was Friday afternoon.
Review 83:Good breakfast. Small twin room, but clean.
Review 84:Our room was very small, and granted, it is an older building. The weather wasn't great, so we ended up spending more time in the room than we would have if the weather had been better! And we had construction/scaffolding right outside our window, so we woke up to that one morning.
Review 85:Location was great, room was clean, staff was very friendly!
Review 86:Was greeted by a rude and incompetent manger at reception free parking was a nightmare got told when I arrived anywhere in a mile radius took me 30 min to find a parking spot ; he dindt even ask the basics like how was your trip etc just you owe x amount and to pay it , then the toilet broke and was running water till 2 am in the morning , the lift is so old fashion it made a racket all though the night plus doors slamming , then to top it all of the maid just walked in with her key at 10 am in the morning without knocking ; when I told them all this I got no offer of anything not even a sorry for it
Review 87:Bar staff was friendly good location
Review 88:Having to park in the adjacent streets was a problem in high season. The hotel decor was drab and colourless, although everything was clean. The bathroom basin was slightly damaged.
Review 89:Reasonably good value for the money charged.
Review 90:Breakfast time could be extended to 1 and half hours to accommodate the coach trip of elderly people who came on the second day we were there, they acted like it was their hotel and some were very rude. Sitting outside at 6am being noisy and having no respect for other guests who like a lay in while on holiday.
Review 91:Great location, nice friendly staff, decent 3 star hotel.
Review 92:WiFi was poor couldn't get any. The shower was hot one second then was stone cold the next ( the shower was the over the bath shower ). Parking was difficult but expected for time of year.
Review 93:The staff were very helpful.
Review 94:there was no wifi and the breakfast is limited in time (8-9) and choices (no fruit or yoghurt)
Review 95:Location is very good. They upgraded us to a family room
Review 96:We wrote a letter of complaint as the evening we stayed another couple staying in the hotel was shouting and screaming from 10am until 4pm in the morning !!! No staff were on the premises during this time so the noise carried on which result in us getting no sleep. Also this recorded letter was sigh for and we haven't even had a written apology.Furthermore, breakfast time was awful as I don't eat meat or dairy and the only milk avaliable was cows milk.
Review 97:Staff were friendly, close location to beach and clean room.
Review 98:Nothing to complain about
Review 99:Very helpful staff. We were soaked through when arrived. They dried all our things for us. Very friendly and I noticed management we're always making sure guests we're served an looked after Highly recommend.
Review 100:no evening meals got there on Friday pouring with rain did not want to go out but no evening meal being served. We asked for a bar snack or sandwiches but were told no by the manager but we could order a take away to be delivered, we did not want this. We purchased some overpriced small packets of crisps and pork scratchings at £1.00 per packet, far to expensive in my opinion. Room was next to the lift so rather noisy.
Review 101:breakfast very good friendly owners and staff
Review 102:Nothing bad in particular, if I have to name a thing, there was no wifi in the room, only in the common area... It would have been nice to have it in the room!
Review 103:Hotel was clean and staff very helpful, great position in the centre and close to the seafront
Review 104:Although I was told on arrival, I would have found it helpful if there was a welcome flyer in my room. Specifically something that reminded me of check out times etc etc.
Review 105:A great stay! The staff are very helpful and the location of this hotel could not be better. Breakfast is also very nice, and as it is a buffet you can help yourself to as much as you like.
Review 106:Finding parking space on the streets around hotel was challenging. No one mentioned free wi- fi
Review 107:Food was really tasty, hotel was clean and in brilliant location.
Review 108:Lack of onsite parking Wifi didn't extend into the room Room was small but adequate for a base
Review 109:Great staff, I had an emergency at home so I had to checkout at 4am, hotel exterior was clean and newly painted -looked good from the road, all questions answered quickly Location a minute from the beach close to everything
Review 110:location was excellent for sea front and shopping area the rooms were comfortable and even had a free standing fan which was most appreciated, large bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, the breakfast was excellent.all in all really good value for money
Review 111:Curtain rail hanging off wall, had to prop window open for it to stay open, very hot in bedroom but no fan to cool down & room door lock faulty, took 10mins to get into room
Review 112:The hotel is very, very tight inside, the lift is a bit of a mechanical nightmare. The beds were very firm and we were on the first floor, our room only being accessable by stairs with a pushchair.
Review 113:The location for the seafront is excellent being on a side street only a few hundred yards from the sea. Breakfast was good and staff fairly helpfil.
Review 114:Ok, where to start .... My room was situated on the 1st floor right behind the elevator (which in itself was about half a century old and a little bit scarey to use) so I constntly heard the lift rattling around whenever I was in my room. The carpet looked like someone had given birth right in the middle of it and could really do with a deep clean. A few mouldy spots in the bathroom and a really dodgy plug in the sink which I couldn't release properly and ended up having to pull out using a T spoon provided for tea making. And strangest of all ... during the 1 night I stayed I'm sure I woke during the night to see a guy standing in my room by the doorway?? I might have just imagined it (as I'd had a few beers) but it seemed pretty real as I'm sure I fell asleep with the tv on and I don't remember turning the lamp off ... both of which were off in the morning??
Review 115:Location was excellent. The barman (used to be the maintenance guy) was very friendly and chatty. Breakfast was nice. Would recommend trying other hotels 1st in the hope it's better / nicer than this one.
Review 116:when we arrived there was a coach party booked in, and just going in for dinner this was about 18hrs. we was told that we could go in for dinner because there was no room. this was sat, the next morning we had to wait for our breakfast till the coach party finished. Sunday the bar was closed all day because the C/ party had left. very poor custom relations.
Review 117:location
Review 118:It was in a very good location, near to beach front, shops, restaurants and bars. The staff were friendly and it was good value for money. The breakfast was fantastic.
Review 119:Bathroom had mould everywhere looked very unhygienic. Bed very small. No choice of vegetarian breakfast. Lack of disability access where my room was located
Review 120:Location was brilliant next to sea front and shops
Review 121:There was not 1 thing we didn't like about this hotel
Review 122:Me and my wife have been twice now in the last 2 years and we are already looking forward to going back next.
Review 123:Bit of a musty smell in the corridors but would'nt say it was too bad and would not put me off .
Review 124:Friendly well run hotel , good location and nice clean room Worth the money and would stay again .
Review 125:what a difference from the 1st time, we were upgraded to a suite and we could not fault either the room or the staff. perfect for a weekend break. location perfect as well.
Review 126:Not a bad experience really, but although the hotel issues a free parking permit, actually finding a space to park is absolutely horrendous in Grt.Yarmouth. We had to park streets and streets away from our hotel
Review 127:Greeted on Reception desk, friendly helpful staff. Appearance of hotel very clean and tidy. Dining room clean, self service breakfast (so you pick exactly what you want and the amount you want) Would stay again
Review 128:The wet bed when we arrived! But this was dealt with straight away and we were moved. Sadly the room was slightly smaller and had a smaller TV.
Review 129:It was very close to the seafront and looked quite posh without the posh price tag.
Review 130:Our carpet was stained everywhere. we had a lot of noise up untill 3 am , we know this as we were unable to sleep! the breakfast was cold and of poor quality.the staff were not welcoming.our bottled spring water' had already both been opened.
Review 131:It was very noisy. We had a room street facing and people were coming back at all hours shouting about outside. The bed was okay but not the best.
Review 132:The breakfast was good.
Review 133:The location was a stones throw from the pier and prom with shopping just round the corner, breakfast was fresh and hot, rooms were clean and spacecious
The Fine Print
Please note that all rooms are non smoking.Free parking permits are available for guests at the reception counter.
