Reviews for The Royal Chace Hotel
Review 1:Very basic room - not much space, basic furnishings, a bit grubby. It's a mystery to me how this place has got 4 stars and such a good rating on booking.com!
Review 2:Reasonable room service. Free car-parking.
Review 3:Lots of noise from function party , rooms were too close to the noise and was impossible to sleep.
Review 4:Beautiful hotel, amazing food even for a function menu the quality was good. Impressive drive xmas decorations were tasteful and lovely.
Review 5:Room corridors could do with updating in line with rooms and public facilities. Breakfast a little expensive at £15. Location suited our purposes perfectly, but would be difficult without a car.
Review 6:Comfortable room, helpful and friendly staff. Good choice at breakfast.
Review 7:After hearing great things about this hotel, and seeing how many events have been held here,( weddings, christening, etc) I thought after looking deeply into hotels to spend NYE in Hertfordshire this would be the perfect place. It was my first NYE with my boyfriend so when I booked, I told them this under special requests and if they could make it special, that I would be grateful. When I got to the royal chase, the parking was easy, the receptionist was somewhat pleasant and our room (the best room you can get, also used a honeymoon suite) was on the ground floor.Upon entering the room I was disheartened to learn that no special requests had been made whatsoever. The decor of the room was not cosy, very "grandma house" like- and the four poster bed wasn't luxurious at all. The wet room was extremely small with the shower not being big enough for one person. With the shower head also falling onto my boyfriends foot and not staying upright properly. In the room there was no mini fridge, making water late at night impossible. Unless you brought your own bottle and let it sit warm. The good thing about our room was the whirlpool bath, and it felt amazing, yet the TV on the wall above the bath, you cannot see when actually sitting in the bath as its to high up and you can't see the picture properly. We then proceeded to get ready for the NYE dinner and dance that the RCH hold every New Years. Upon telling my boyfriend the receptionist told me breakfast was not included, he was infuriated at this since we booked over £200 for this package of NYE dinner and dance. We learnt as we called down to reception that breakfast is not included in the package and is £15 per head. My boyfriend when booking the NYE event was told by Sue that she would include breakfast which we now realise was a sale tatic, and on the night, we spent half an hour at reception trying to resolve this and the director had to get involved.
Review 8:The Whirlpool bath in the honeymoon suite The views
Review 9:Be aware that there is no lift at this property, so for those that have mobility issues, be certain to request a room on the ground floor.
Review 10:The staff is very nice and go out of their way to help out. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Bar area is inviting with a good selection of spirits and ales.
Review 11:The pillows were a bit hard and the car park a bit soggy. The room was on the small side.
Review 12:The exterior of the hotel was bright and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 13:The overall experience from the room, the dinner, the breakfast. And especially the the £50 retainer they took from my Visa card which still isn't back in my account after 8 days
Review 14:Ground floor room which was too warm and stuffy despite being December and no heating on in room. Window looked out onto two walls! When we tried to pay for drinks in the bar using Scottish banknotes, the bar attendant questioned whether she could accept them!!
Review 15:Prices were good value for being so close to London.
Review 16:Bed was small felt smaller than a regular double but might have been regular but more used to a King. Don't think breakfast is good value so don't have breakfast when we stop there which we do frequently. We always have breakfast out. I think at £30 per couple it should be served and not buffet style particularly being buffet it can be a little dried up
Review 17:Credit card up front for everything even breakfast. First time I have experienced this and it will be the last. On arrival reception was not good. when I asked where the dining room was I was directed downstairs which had only a "festive" menu. Sorry NOT good enough
Review 18:Most of it; room most staff cleanliness.
Review 19:The net curtains were torn, the shower mat was a bit black and looked like it had mould on it, the sink tap was very loose and the room small. The hotel said we could upgrade for £75.00 more as there were only a few guests staying there. Considering the issues with the room it would have been nice if they just upgraded us. The price of the room was a bit high for 2 nights and then to also have to pay £15.00 each per day for breakfast was a bit much. After the first night we also had to ask for the room to be cleaned.
Review 20:The coffee
Review 21:Pillows were old and too firm Duvet also seemed old
Review 22:Helpful and friendly bar staff who opened up for us last Saturday night after they had closed as we were residents.
Review 23:The spare bed for my daughter was too uncomfortable to sleep in so it just sat there. The TV was really faulty and channels changed when you tried to turn up or down the volume. Not ideal when being operated by a child. We went out ever night by taxi as really nothing to do at the hotel.
Review 24:I booked this hotel so that my daughter and partner would have something to do while I was on a training course. I paid extra because of the advertised pool but it is only available in the Sumner as its an open pool and kids are not allowed in the games room. So I definitely wouldn't have booked it I I'd known. Plus its about £10,taxi ride from train stations so book in advance as it would take about 40 mins to walk from the stations.
Review 25:No help
Review 26:Complained to the staff about the nose of the extractor fan I could not have the light on because of the noise and had to retune the television. The room was very cold I asked how to put the heating but had no joy. We left and booked in another hotel as it was important we had a good night sleep.
Review 27:In the entrance to the hotel we were greeted by several men, smoking,They deliberately blew smoke on to us as we went out. We mentioned thisto the staff at reception who were apologetic and said no smoking wasallowed by the front door. However no signs visible anywhere to tellpeople this. This puts us off booking the hotel again.
Review 28:The room was clean but not 'sparkling'.The staff seemed attentive.
Review 29:Tried to put us into a tiny room until we complained. When we were 5 mins after check out time they chased us out in a v unfriendly manner. Not worth £115 for a tiny double room
Review 30:Nice (ish) location
Review 31:The night food wasnt fresh I was disappointed but the manager managed to get the nice and delicious buffet food which I really enjoyed.
Review 32:The room was nice and cozy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location was excellent.
Review 33:I arrived back at my room about 1am and had to complain that the person in the next room had their televion at full volume. The NIght Porter was very good and sorted this out.
Review 34:The staff are always friendly and helpful.
Review 35:Room doors could be a little thicker to reduce noise from passing guests.
Review 36:Great hotel, good rooms, very comfortable, didn't eat in the restaurant but other guests said the food was very good. 5 nights for £460 is excellent value for money. Would recommend the place and stay here again.
Review 37:Poor standard of housekeeping. Stains on bedroom wall, room not refreshed properly. Petty minded officious receptionist at checkout bordered on rude and clouded our stay.
Review 38:Location is lovely. Receptionist welcoming on arrival.
Review 39:I have stayed all over the world in some amazing top class hotels, theroom was small and very expensive.they want to charge me £80.00 to cleana room which I was unfortunate enough to be sick in,which I might add Ihave scrubbed and cleaned myself.Very poor they know how to robpeople, will never stay there again ever
Review 40:Not being allowed to pay cash on arrival for my room. This caused me problems and i think the hotel needs to revise this, if i had not had my card with me id have not been able to stay. No bar meals and the prices fro meals where a bit high. was told that breakfast was included in the price with the room yet when booked it was separate ?
Review 41:Location was good easy to find and good access to m25
Review 42:Food very good. Pleasant countryside surroundings but easily accessible to Enfield Town. Interesting decorative elements, bedroom nicely furnished and quiet, bathrooms well equipped.Several attractive courtyards for sitting out. Staff couldn't have been nicer.
Review 43:See above
Review 44:I was put in adjoining room and had to suffer noise all night. Considering I booked 4 rooms I at least could have been given an adjoining one with one of my group!! Also I opted for cash on departure had to pay by card!!
Review 45:Breach of data protection! When someone calls up do not confirm my details over the phone. The hotel is lucky im not seeking legal advice. Terrible staff
Review 46:Staff were not very attentive, always seemed uninterested in anything you were inquiring about. Hotel is massively overpriced in every aspect. Rooms were small, badly kept and ours had tiles falling off in the bathroom, grouting missing and was Dirty. Room service was slow and quality was poor to average. We enjoy fine dining so when paying those prices we expected better than stale bread.
Review 47:Unhappy with the whole experience!
Review 48:We didnt have enough time unfortunately it was just a flying visit to enfield
Review 49:lovely hotel , very clean with lovely decor, staff very friendly and helpful, room very clean. Will definately return
Review 50:Price of breakfast was high. We ate at local cafes at under a third the price
Review 51:Hotel was very well situated for our requirements. The rooms were cleaned daily to a good standard. Staff were helpful
Review 52:Being a single person among a group of family and friends and having a lovely big room to myself, instead of a very small room usually offered to single people.
Review 53:We called the hotel prior to booking. Was advised that if we booked on line breakfast would be included. This turned out not to be true
Review 54:Very comfortable
Review 55:Not happy that we had to settle bill on arrival and the next day we were locked out of our room for the same reason They knew we were staying another night Very unhappy about this Also they added 12.5% to our bar bill !!!!!!!
Review 56:The bed was very hard for my liking but that was only my problem.
Review 57:We came to celebrate our sons wedding. This hotel lived up to everything we ever wanted. Staff excellent and wedding facilities wonderful.
Review 58:Breakfast is too expensive, the pool is advertised as 'open during summer months' but seems to be arbitrarily closed, and the blaring chart music in the bar area is unwelcome and not relaxing for business travellers. Room service menu could do with more gluten-free choices.
Review 59:Comfortable, clean and stylish double rooms, and a bathtub. Pleasant staff. All conveniences you would expect at this level of accommodation, prompt room service and a nice looking property inside and out.
Review 60:There were two weddings taking place on the evening that we stayed and the noise was intolerable. People wee talking loudly outside our door both at about 4am and again at about 5. Don't stay there at the on a Saturday if you value your sleep
Review 61:Hotel was well positioned between the M25 and Enfield. Rooms were spotless and the breakfast, whilst very expensive was very good.
Review 62:Standard rooms are quite small. We have paid £95 for one night. Too expensive regarding the location, and the quality of the hotel. You can cancel the room until two days before, and you have a price guarantee until then. But this only applies to that period alone. They tend to decrease their prices after cancellation period, and the price guarantee does not apply in that period. In this regard, they are quite "clever"!!! They only promise early check in for the last day bookers. So, you pay more and you suffer more just because you pay earlier and they have secured your payment. It is not easy to reach if you do not have a car. It is quite hard to find a place to eat near the hotel. But if you have a car, there are many more options.
Review 63:It is cosy and quiet. Looks elegant. Clean. They let us do the check in earlier.
Review 64:Having to call for room services before 6.30am, to replenish our tea/coffee tray, no teabags, and insufficient milk & sugar, so that we could have our wake-up cuppa.
Review 65:From our arrival at the hotel we found the staff welcoming, cheerful & willing to give that little bit extra high quality service. The staff in the breakfast bar were delightful, greeting us with a big welcoming smile every morning, and excellent choices of appetising breakfasts.
Review 66:No air conditioning or fridge in the rooms. No plastic bottled water available for purchase. We stayed during a period of very hot weather but, even so, summer does occur once a year and a 4 star hotel should have been prepared.
Review 67:Just a small thing but I would have liked pastries with the continental breakfast.
Review 68:Facilities- bar area, outdoor pool with lovely gardens. Comfy rooms, free wifi, helpful staff
Review 69:Our son, daughter in law and three month granddaughter also stayed at the hotel. They were treated with great care by staff, particularly in the evening, when we asked if the baby could be in the dining room with us.
Review 70:Very small swimming Pool. You had know mission statement with regards to serving, organic / free range / outdoor bred, produce.
Review 71:I liked that you listened to my preferences.
Review 72:The attitude of the reception staff and the duty manager and having to pay £30.00 for two breakfasts which one was not required and the hotel would not refund it even £15.00 was extremie for what was on offer
Review 73:No i have to say i was happy with my stay.
Review 74:The staff were lovely. I traveled with my mum who has difficulty walking and they could not do enough for us.
Review 75:The continental breakfast was very poor in term of choices of breads. The date of expiration for our cereals was over!
Review 76:We really appreciated to use the swimming pool after a long trip. The dinner was very good and the staff at the restaurant very kind and polite.
Review 77:Breakfast was really bad £15 and the service and availability of items extremely poor. Staff at breakfast to include supervisor and chef extremely rude. Will not be returning.
Review 78:Location ok
Review 79:Spoilt by a wedding reception, with the hotel having very little control over other guest behaviour. There is no air con in the room so it was unavoidable having the top window open. Music and shouting went on until 1am, after a long day it was the last thing we needed, nor did our 5 year appreciate the noise. A getaway break is meant to be relaxing, but unfortunately we came away deflated and even more tired.
Review 80:Nice location, nice room (no air con)
Review 81:Just thought our room was a bit small and stuffy. Although it looked out on lovely courtyard. Think the prices are a bit to heavy for what you get.
Review 82:Love the surroundings and the qwuiteness of it all...very comfortable bar area and pleasant to sit having a coffee and chatting until late.
Review 83:The bed was rather small and too soft. Wine was a bit moderate for the price they charge.
Review 84:Very friendly staff, always willing to help. Good food in the restaurant, although a bit expensive, because fries/potato's and vegetables are not included, and there's an extra charge for these 'side dishes'.
Review 85:Did not have a bad experience but bottles of water and maybe some fruit in the bedroom would have been an added pleasant extra
Review 86:Comfortable bed ; bathroom very clean ; very varied choice for evening meal and an excellent breakfast.
Review 87:If I have to fault something it would be the wifi, it's ok but could be a bit faster. However the hotel is in a good location for mobile signal and I was able to get 4G.
Review 88:The hotel has a resort feel to it. The fitness center is more than adequate and clean. I travel on business regularly and I was very impressed by this hotel. The staff were very professional.
Review 89:Waited 45 minutes for a bar snack room was small and bed was tiny and backed out onto a court yard where a wedding took place until 2 am.decor is tired in public areas as well as the room hotel is not as described
Review 90:young staff where friendly but unsupervised
Review 91:Impeccably clean - and nicely designed - bedroom. Delicious food served by well trained, non-invasive staff. Excellent location for fresh air near London!
Review 92:We don't like the spongy pillows and it was too late to ask if you had feather ones. There were only two teabags which were not enough, had to reuse one in the morning!
Review 93:The room was very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was clean and water hot.
Review 94:Key cards for the room didn't work properly. Was accused by a member of staff of mixing the keys up. Payment required on check in Hot water didn't work and was asked to wait an hour while the boiler warmed up. Offered a twin room after an hour and was only offered a double room after my wife complained. The staff were unhelpful and patronising
Review 95:Really struggling with this one...
Review 96:The matress on the bed in room 221 is totally worn out , and needs immediate replacement. My wife and I had 2 uncomfortable nights sleep
Review 97:The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts and lunch we had were appetizing and good quality
Review 98:The fact the hotel thought they were within their right to deduct money from a debit card for no reason !!!!!!!
Review 99:We have stayed at this hotel about 3 or 4 times a year for the last 10 years and loved it . So we decided to stay there for my step daughters wedding . We booked 3 rooms , 1 for 3 nights , 1 for 2 nights and 1 for just 1 night . We paid the bill on a debit card when we arrived . We then had a family meal on the first night as a pre wedding meal for our step daughter which we paid for straight away as well . The lady at reception then informed us she would be deducting another £300 from our card as they estimated that is what we would spend in the hotel over the course of our stay . I felt this was a liberty as we had paid everything and we would not be in tne hotel as we were out at a different venue for our family wedding . We were left angry and disappointed at the way the hotel thought they can just take money off us for no reason !!!!
Review 100:In booking referentes didn't say only card accepted no possible to pay cash. Free wifi didn't work. Breakfast too expensive for what it is. Outside of hotel may be 4 stars but room is more of a 3 start hotel. Bathroom smelled.
Review 101:Wanted to pay cash, to my dismay I was told at the entrance that this was not possible. As I do not own a credit card, this was my only option, concierge was helpful and finally we manage to arrange a solution, although I was only staying at the hotel to have a place to sleep nearby, arrived after 9pm and left at 7.30am so it was not what I was expecting at my arrival.
Review 102:We felt that the £10 charge to allow us to check out one hour laterthan the check out time is extortionate. I have stayed in many hotelsaround the world and never been charged for one extra hour, disappointing really!
Review 103:Unfortunately some of the staff did not share the managers professional manner but I get the impression this will change for the better.
Review 104:I had an issue that the front of house head dealt with very friendly and professionally. I was very impressed with her willingness to help.
Review 105:The first room I was allocated, the door would not unlock, so they moved me to another room and when I got in, there was painting and decorating equipment all over the place, so they had to move me a third time and told me I never should've been given that second room!
Review 106:Your dating mistake
Review 107:At least the staff realised the mistake and only charged us £75 for the night, now without breakfast. So our stay has cost £175.00 for a bed!!!
Review 108:We were unfortunate in that we arrived later than anticipated. We went to the bar for a coffee, unfortunately the machine had been turned off. The next choice was a pint of beer, unfortunately the pumps were being cleaned with chemicals so we could not have that. Next we wanted a panini and hot sandwiches were no longer being served. Our room was set for one which we did not realise til the next morning and there was a shortage of towels. Work commenced on the swimming pool at 8 am which was just outside our bedroom window.
Review 109:We checked in and expected a quality room for £160 per night this proved not to be the case We were moved to another room as we were adjacent to the air conditioning which we could here in bed also the noise from above which sounded like cases full of bricks being dropped
Review 110:Location
Review 111:Cannot fault this hotel everything was perfect for our 1 night stay.
Review 112:Staff very professional and welcoming. Great location being away from the town and I didn't,t realise there were still such fantastic views of the English countryside in Enfield!
Review 113:bad wifi bad tv omg it was not working properly hairdryer no comment might as well not have one a HAZARD Breakfast was nice but overpriced at £15 per person per night
Review 114:room service was good and prompt bed was comfortable and clean room nice location
Review 115:Only one thing I must tell you, is that you need bigger Bath Sheet towels in the rooms. My other half had a good size towel, but I had what seemed more like a hand towel. If it is a Double Room, put 2 x Bath Sheets in there...they are so much more accommodating for all sizes !!!..
Review 116:Loved the food in the hotel....absolutely stunning and extremely tastey! very attentive staff. Loved the stay and will be back for more !
Review 117:Had to wait to check in, no one around. Too many kids screaming and running around. Early cleaners in corridor, sound carries
Review 118:The lady on the bar was delightful and very helpful. They allowed me to stay an extra 1/2 hour, wifi in bar was helpful
Review 119:This is the second visit would recommend the hotel, nice staff, comfortable and friendly atmosphere and excellent food. Will definitely stay there again.
Review 120:hy can't hotels have a decent 'bitter' on tap. If the only stocked average wines there would be trouble. Children running around the corridors shouting.
Review 121:Bar Staff helpful, good food.
Review 122:We thought the breakfast was expensive at £15 per head. Have had better at cheaper hotels for half that price !! Also there was a very musty smell in the room.
Review 123:The location of the hotel was ideal for us.The staff were very helpful.
Review 124:Room was quite small and very dark, (decoration/furniture), ok for my one night stay but wouldn't like longer in same room or as a couple!
Review 125:Very quiet and staff very polite and efficient
Review 126:Nothing
Review 127:Have stayed in this hotel several times.Although it is a very smart hotel the atmosphere is always very friendly and welcoming. The location is lovely but very convenient for town or country. I shall always stay there when visiting North London.
Review 128:The receptionist was new to us, foreign, very sultry and slightly bolshy, not a pleasant start.
Review 129:Stayed here a number of times, so knew what to expect.
Review 130:Both Mothers mentioned that there were no proper soaps in their rooms, the lights were confusing and the breakfast in the room service could be improved. Also information about how to use the TVs would be helpful.
Review 131:I booked the hotel for my mother and my mother in law as we have stayed at the hotel numerous times and are very happy to continue to visit in the future. We have always received nothing but the best in terms of hospitality and comfort.
Review 132:The hotel needs an update and refurbishment. Room decor was dated and tired. No mini bar or air conditioning. Had to open windows for fresh air and these were not in good condition and did not feel secure.
Review 133:Staff service in bar and restaurant was particularly good considering it was Christmas party season. Very attentive.
Review 134:This time my fan didn't workin the shower ..but the staff did all they could to help. Unfortunately the maintenance person was not available until we had left. The room was noisy over the car park and too near the road.It was either too hot or too noisy as we couldn't have a window open for noise.I have booked a quiet room next time. More teabags and milk could be in the room.
Review 135:I always like the friendly welcome by staff on reception. They are always eager to please .I like the décor and the comfortable beds. The food is very good. Its nice to have the tea and coffee etc on arrival. We stay once every 5 weeks and will continue too if we are satisfied as we are now.
