Reviews for Chestnut Bed and Breakfast
Review 1:It was a bit hard to find at first as it is a first floor hotel with a useful stair lift if needed, and the entrance is around the back of the shops but once found the parking was sorted for us and the proximity to the centre was brilliant. As a 300 year old building some of the floors were uneven which might cause difficulty for some people.
Review 2:The hosts were very friendly and accommodating with our young grandaughters late sleep schedule. Flowers and chocates were provided on request as a welcome for my son and his wife from America. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was every bit 4 star with fruits and yogurts provided as well as a full breakfast menu. We would return and recommend this place.
Review 3:Poor sign posting to the entrance to the bed and breakfast so difficult to find. Carpets a little tired now, could do with professional cleaning or totally replacing.
Review 4:Friendliness of the owners. Fantastic breakfast.
Review 5:We had a very good stay, but have a few small comments - wifi and mobile reception was poor (a Bourton problem, it seems), also despite helpful instructions it was quite hard to find the place in the dark and finally, we would have liked to be able to have a lie-in at least on Sunday morning (you needed to be down for breakfast by 9.00 am)
Review 6:Friendly welcome, lovely helpful hosts, extremely helpful in sorting a parking place for us, an excellent range of information (we're walkers... they had local maps and guides) and a very good breakfast indeed.
Review 7:The rooms were nice. Bob and Jan were extremely hospitable and the breakfast was fabulous. All in allI would recommend this place to anyone planning to stay in at Bourton on the water.
Review 8:nothing at all to dislike
Review 9:Great location in a lovely town. great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. we stayed in room 5 and thought it was superb, very quiet and very spacious.
Review 10:Janet and Bob who own the B&B were the ideal hosts, there if you needed them but left you alone. Breakfast was great, plenty on the plate and to a good standard. Would recommend staying.
Review 11:Location right in the centre of Town rooms were clean and tidy Rob and Jan were very good Breakfast excellent would stay here again really enjoyed our stay.
Review 12:Difficult to find as wasn't signposted from front street. Difficult to climb narrow staircase with bag.Decor bit dated
Review 13:Friendly owners and lovely breakfast
Review 14:It is difficult to find until you know it is round the back of the Londis.
Review 15:Breakfast was a good selection of cold or cooked options. Very nice to have fresh milk in the fridge for use in the rooms. Jan and Bob were very welcoming and were very accommodating of changes to plans.
Review 16:Bob & Jan made us feel very welcome, lovely quirky old building. Plenty to eat for breakfast. Car park space needed as short of parking in village centre.
Review 17:Right in town, but not noisy, includes private parking. Great staff - we requested a room change upon check-in so we would have a view of town and she went out of her way to make up another room for us. Very nice!!
Review 18:Room 5 a little jaded, could do with a good redecorating, WiFi sporadic.
Review 19:Smack in the middle of Bourton on the water, tucked behind the Chestnut restaurant. Quiet location.
Review 20:Would of liked mini fridge in room, collected fresh milk from fridge along landing, no hardship though. Would of liked internet in room. Took us a while to work where the entrance was, it's around the back of gift shop.
Review 21:Jan and Bob were very friendly and were there if you wanted them but weren't "in your face" We had a reserved parking bay close by on the road with a drop down bollard. The breakfast and service were excellent. Although we didn't use it, the lounge looked comfy and inviting.
Review 22:Rooms a little dated in decor and the shower was not the best.
Review 23:The location was superb, above the shops near a little green. The bedding and towels were spotless and the breakfast was excellent. The owners gave a wonderful welcome.
Review 24:The rooms varied in size, I shared with my sister ours being quite small however our parents room was of a good size with a sofa. would have been nice to have a fridge in room however one was available on the landing to use.
Review 25:Great location, suberb breakfast friendly wellcome. The lounge was handy & we used it to chat to family members in other room. Dressing gowns were provided which was a nice extra.
Review 26:Although very clean, rooms were a little dated.
Review 27:Excellent location, owners were very helpful, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was fantastic.
Review 28:Was a little difficult to find hotel around back of shops but once you knew were it was all was good
Review 29:Jan and Bob made us extremely welcome breakfast was very good fruit juices, fruit, cereal, and cooked breakfast cooked fresh as you order toast tea and coffee couldn't have asked for more will definitely be going back. Also own parking bay
Review 30:Nothing in particular.
Review 31:The host (Donald) is excellent and very helpful. The location is unusual and quaint - in an old quarry now converted to a lush garden. A quiet location.
Review 32:Everything else was very disappointing. Uncomfortable beds and old pillows, the place needs refurbishing, trickle shower, old towels, wi fi was intermittent.
Review 33:The B& b was located in the centre of the village.
Review 34:Lovely friendly couple (Bob and Jan) who ran the business. Made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We will definitely go back next time we are in the area.
Review 35:NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER, FOOD WAS '' OUR BREAKFAST,, WAS TREFFICK, LOVELY LAID OUT,,, THANKYOU TO,,''BOB & JANE VERY FREINDLY,,,
Review 36:other guest's ''were'' lovely to hear were the other guest's came from,,,,,
Review 37:Bathroom in room 3 not up to standard, boken gouting on floor tiles, broken cover on light above sink, limescale around sink taps, basin plughole needs re-chroming and light pull dirty.
Review 38:Excellent location, Comfortable beds, Friendly and helpful proprietors Good breakfast Free parking
Review 39:Jan & Bob wonderful hosts. Great breakfast (vegemite for the Aussies) comfortable room and guest lounge. Perfect for touring the surrounding areas.
Review 40:The service, the comfort and the friendly owners Jan and Rob. They madeus so welcome and were such lovely people. Would definately come backhere to stay if we are lucky to get back to the uk.
Review 41:I cant believe that this was 4 stars and awarded an excellent certificate the building was old but that's no excuse for fan not working in bathroom, clock battery not changed for some time all corroded, cheap tatty doors to entrances to rooms. I expected a lot better for the money,Shower room décor needed some work as to bedroom .
Review 42:The area is great. The food was nicely cooked, varies choices of cereal etc. But thought for the money a bit more required on plate for full English.
Review 43:The proprietors Jan and Bob are a lovely couple and made us very welcome, the location in the centre of Bourton was great everything on the doorstep. The breakfast room was very welcoming and the food was lovely, plenty of fresh fruit, yogurt and cereal and the cooked breakfast was just the job, can't fault.Nice room with window seat.Big bonus having a private parking space on the High Street.
Review 44:The couple running the bed and breakfast were very helpful and pleasant and the service at breakfast was excellent. We will go back again highly recommended.
Review 45:there was nothing as they had very thing and friendly and had a fringe down stairs which we could put things in and a tv room bus timetable
Review 46:They where a very lovely couple always having a smile on there face great cooked breakfast which there was heaps to pick from they helped us out telling us where to go how to get there really great would go back
Review 47:Location is ideal to explore Bourton and surrounding villages. We were only looking for bed and breakfast - there are plenty of excellent restaurants and pubs around - so Chestnuts was ideal. Bob/Jan were very welcoming hosts.
Review 48:There was a minor problem with the shower but Bob sorted it out very efficiently.
Review 49:Staying right in the heart of one of the prettiest Cotswold towns is a real bonus. Janet & Bob are very friendly and the 300 year old building is lovely, despite the stairs. A very attractive room, a good breakfast and a great location.
Review 50:Wifi was hard to get but I think that's a problem with the area more than the B&B.
Review 51:Owners very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Fabulous position. Good size room.
Review 52:No negative feedback whatsoever.
Review 53:Everything. Our stay is one which will stick in our memory for a long time. Jan & Bob's knowledge of the immediate area, and advice on direction was very helpful.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:Size of room - very spacious Clean and well decorated Good shower room Nice breakfast - presented and cooked well Hosts were very friendly and informative Ideal location, free parking
Review 56:The Seagulls that have arrived and how they are trying to chase the Ducks from the Canals.
Review 57:The location was perfectly situated. The Pubs and Restruants where all excellent and so many to choose from. The History behind the place was so interesting. Would recommend to family and friends.
Review 58:the rooms are fine very comfortable but the lighting is very dull.putting on make up was quite difficult.as the shower head is fixed it is awkward to shower without getting hair wet and though asking for a hair dryer was ok,it would be better if each room could have a hair dryer
Review 59:the location for this bandb was absolutely great.as it is on the main street but at the back it gives all the benefits no passing traffic noise.breakfast was excellent jan and bob very friendly.very central for any of the many places to visit as well as bourton which we love. going back!
Review 60:Property is dated. Entrance at the back is very dark. Staircase is narrow so concerns for those with difficulties walking.
Review 61:The staff are very friendly. Great breakfast. Excellent location in the middle of Bourton.
Review 62:The was nothing we didn't like even the weather was kind to us
Review 63:enjoyed our visit with my Daughter. Lovely rooms and the food was excellent. friendly staff and would recommend this place to anyone
Review 64:The king size bed was not really king size but that wasn't really a problem.
Review 65:The owners Jan & Bob are very friendly and helpful. Location is in the middle of the village, so everything is at walking distance.
Review 66:The bed was a little hard for me - but that's my personal preference so isn't a negative.
Review 67:The location and the very warm welcome we had. Lovely big room and a comfy guest lounge with large leather sofas to sink into. Very good breakfast too.
Review 68:The entrance was poor (it's a back service entrance shared with with independant restaurant and retail shops and is dirty and untidy). Noise ingress into room from other rooms was sub-standard; fortunately there were few staying here. The on-line picture / description does not reflect the B&B fairly. Price at 80 STG was far too high - better off staying at hotels which are superior & cheaper. Pretty well put us off staying at UK B&B and after that we stayed at Holiday Inn (pretty good) and Premier Inn (very good and recommended)
Review 69:Not much really - the hosts did their best but they are dealing with a poor quality B&B.
Review 70:Entrance unattractive, round the back of shops. Room ok but a bit dark, small window. Shower water pressure poor.
Review 71:In the centre of the village. Good hosts, great breakfast in a nice breakfast room. Nice guest sitting room
Review 72:Entry next to back door of shop. Would have liked an adjustable shower head.
Review 73:Excellent breakfast and service. Four post bed with comfortable duvet. Many interesting pictures and other items of art.
Review 74:The looks of the entrance area on the ground floor. The hallway could be more inviting with the addition of better and more modern lighting and a brightening up for carpet.
Review 75:Meeting Janet and Bob the owners and inn keepers. They couldn't have been more gracious and hospitable. The Chestnut Inn with just six rooms is located directly in village center of Bourton-on-the Water. One note the entrance to the Inn is found on the ground level in the rear of the pharmacy door to the right. The Inn is on 1st floor with rather steep set of stairs which houses a stair chair which doubles as "lift" for your luggage and anyone that might need some assistance in arriving at reception. The hallway is narrow but the bedrooms and ample with queen double beds (comfortable). Simplicity overall is the word that comes to mind. The breakfast room is sunny and inviting and the breakfast fine with buffet or full service menu - which ever one preferred This Inn is small and of great value. Parking area ample.
Review 76:Requested a bath but unfortunately they only had showers. No problem though.
Review 77:Bob and Jan made us very welcome. Had own parking space. A charming and quaint B/B just off High Street. So quiet - could not fault the breakfast either. Would certainly go back.
Review 78:When you enter the building we likened it to the Fun House at the fair, as the building is not straight probably due to age. Entering through the delivery entrance to shop below is not appealing. Bedding was clean and towels fresh but there was thick dust on the back of our bed which was concealed by a net canopy. Tea tray needs attention. Rooms need updating. Chipped paint and tired décor. Think the 4 stars were for location. Quirky didn't work for us and our friends.
Review 79:We loved the location and the fact that we had our own parking space. The breakfast is good and filling. The hosts were friendly.
Review 80:The place is hard to find. It would be good if a detailed explanation of its location could be provided when you book.
Review 81:The location was excellent. You could use a communal refrigerator which had fresh milk supplied. The bed linen was lovely. There was a lounge room. Best of all a car space.
Review 82:The hotel is very tired and requires some updating, although this does not detract from the plus points
Review 83:Breakfast and the location is excellent, the staff are very friendly the car parking is in a designated bay on the high street
Review 84:Perhaps a more prominent sign, more visible from the road for new arrivals.
Review 85:Jan and Bob made us very welcome, even though we arrived early. The room was excellent with a very comfy bed and quality products. The guest fridge is an additional benefit and there is a comfortable sitting room for guests containing numerous books, brochures and maps. We made use of the bus timetables and travelled the scenic routes to various towns and villages at very low cost, especially as one of us had a bus pass! Bob made an excellent waiter at breakfast, which had an choice of the usual cereals, together with Greek yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, prunes and grapefruit, followed by full English and variations. Well done in the kitchen Jan. The Chestnuts is in the centre of Bourton on the Water and we were spoilt for choice in the evenings with the array of restaurants in close proximity. Altogether a very enjoyable stay on our first visit to the Cotswolds, but probably not our last.
Review 86:Very good location in central Burton-on-the -Water. Pleasant people here at the B and B.. Breakfast is *:15 but they made it early at7:30 for us as we had a long way to travel. This was very helpful.
Review 87:We stayed 2 nights. Jan and Bob are lovely and welcoming. We had a very relaxing time in Bourton on the Water. Will definitely be staying again soon.
Review 88:We received a warm welcome from Jan and Bob who were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent . Perfect location right in the heart of the village . We will definitely return for another visit .
Review 89:Very hard to find - entrance behind main road but not well marked. Showers very small with low pressures.
Review 90:In centre of town and well located to other towns. Friendly, accommodating service. Excellent breakfast.
Review 91:The floors of the room were very slanted, shower small and shower head pointed towards open door!
Review 92:Right in the middle of the town, within walking distance of everything. Hostess was very friendly and helpful. Private parking available with help from owner.
Review 93:Slight mix up on the room - we should of had one over looking theriver/village but just had roof tops at back. (Room No.5) Janet andBob apologised with the mix up they made and we paid a reduced rate. Westill had a great time.........
Review 94:Janet and Bob are really nice (fantastic breakfast Janet). The centrallocation in Bourton on the water was ideal (Last visit to Bourton about8 yrs ago). The room (No.5) was a good size but window just looked overroof tops!!! (Slight mix up on rooms). The entrance is at back - downsmall side road (The Chestnut Tree tearoom, Rowlands Pharmacy) Overallthe Chestnut B'n'B is a good base to explore the Cotswolds. Manythanks Jon and Vicky....see you again!
Review 95:The stairs caused me a problem as not good on stairs but they did have a stairs lift if needed which is a plus.
Review 96:Very central, great setting with loads to see & do. Made very welcome, had everything we needed. We will go again next year, can't wait.
Review 97:We had difficulty in locating the B & B as it is as the rear of the street address. It would have saved much angst if this was stated on the booking documentation.
Review 98:This accommodation was well situated in the town of Bourton-on-the-Water. The hosts were very welcoming and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 99:Climbing stairs to property but this was only a minor niggle as I have a problematic knee. There is a stair lift for the disabled.
Review 100:Position in Bourton. Private car parking in a place where parking is very difficult during the daytime.
Review 101:Shower extremely small - don't drop the soap (you'll have difficulty picking it up again!) still, it did have lots HOT water No fan in room - no a/c either so room will get hot quickly if UK has hot summer No top sheet under duvet
Review 102:Central position in village Lovely breakfast Fresh milk easily available in fridge Friendly hosts, hospitable & helpful Clean room
Review 103:Hard to find. Would have liked more tea bags available (and more choice of teas).
Review 104:Very friendly, helpful hosts. Quaint town. Great location for exploring the Cotswolds. Adequate facility. Super breakfast.
Review 105:Jan & Bob very friendly couple, went out of the way to assist. Jan cooked a delicious breakfast and Bob cheerfully served it . Would recommend their B&B .
Review 106:Hard bed, we did not sleep well and were both very stiff in morning. Small room with very basic finish. Tiny shower room/toilet. Autocratic instructions in information folder. Restricted time slot for breakfast.
Review 107:Good breakfast well served by host. Pleasant welcome on arrival.
Review 108:Finding the place was a challenge due to a lake of signage - a council heritage regulation.
Review 109:The location of Chestnut B&B was fantastic across from the village river and activities. A real bonus was having a dedicated car park for each room and a communal fridge was more than handy.
Review 110:Warm cosy room, parking and location.
Review 111:A warm welcome. Friendly staff. Value for money. Great location for what we needed. A lovely, freshly cooked breakfast.
Review 112:Friendly and helpful owners
Review 113:Do not turn up on the night that they turn the lights on!
Review 114:Lovely people made it a warm and homely stay. Location is spot on breakfast was first class
Review 115:It is hard to find the entrance
Review 116:Great location and friendly staff
Review 117:Poor wi-fi
Review 118:Clean. Warm and cosy . friendly staff.good location with parking. Breakfast lovely.
Review 119:The overall standard was very fine and we felt comfortable. Friendliness and helpfulness were the default setting.
Review 120:Friendly owners, comfy bed and lovely breakfast
Review 121:Great location in the heart of Bourton on the Water. The building is quaint and the hosts so lovely and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious.
Review 122:Gracious friendly hosts who served scrumptious breakfasts; were helpful and gave great restaurant recommendations . Provided way more than expected.
Review 123:None
Review 124:Bob & Jan made us fell very at home & were most helpful.Home cooked breakfast was delicious.

Review 126:pleasant room nice breakfast
