Reviews for Tintagel Arms Hotel
Review 1:The staff were exceptionally friendly and their welcome was warm. I was on my own and was only there for one night, so not someone most hotels would expend much effort over. However, the staff memorised and greeted me by name. Also, their complimentary breakfasts are very good.
Review 2:The decor is eclectic and feels like a genuine pub. It's not posh but I like that.
Review 3:Friendly staff in a great location. Comfortable rooms and good food.
Review 4:Room not as advertised on Internet. Parking very poor. Bed very uncomfortable, left day early to stay some where else. No sign of a swimming pool.
Review 5:The staff were very friendly.
Review 6:Only the car park ! It was raining most of our winter stay so that may have coloured our judgement !
Review 7:The location is good, parking is ok but with a difficult entry and limited space. The staff however are excellent, a warm welcome which continued throughout our short stay.
Review 8:nothing....... enjoyed it very much
Review 9:the whole weekend was wonderful the owners and staff can not do enough for you, very friendly and made you feel at home, food excellent, rooms clean and comfortable cant wait to book again.
Review 10:Had room 8 - quite compact and bathroom had no heating. Fine for a couple of nights but a bit too cosy for a longer stay.
Review 11:Friendly staff, and nice evening meal and breakfast. Happy to adapt the menu to meet our wishes. All nice and clean and they had really gone to town with the Christmas decorations. They were lovely. Good central location with free parking.
Review 12:Noisy toilet but due to the age of the building I can see why it needs a macerator to provide an ensuite. Room is compact and would look bigger without the four poster bed and due to location of the toilet to the bed, would advise not for new couples but small niggles really.
Review 13:Very friendly staff, good location in the middle of Tintagel. Very dog friendly. Comfy bed and powerful shower
Review 14:4 poster bed is nothing more than a varnished 2x2 framework which, blocks the view of the wall mounted TV Faceboard came away in my hand when I opened a drawer of the dressing table. Only one stool in the room. Despite giving specific instructions as to how I wanted my eggs cooked, they appeared on my plate the way the chef thought they should be prepared.
Review 15:Breakfast - well cooked and, generous servings. Nice coffee. Staff are helpful and, are proactive Free WiFi and car parking.
Review 16:Very well maintained, professional but friendly staff, lovely old-world charm creating it`s own unique atmosphere. Very comfy rooms, ample facilities in the room. Exceptional price.
Review 17:Rooms and bathrooms were very tight, hardly space enough to open a two suitcases, but this is typical of very old buildings fitted for modern use.
Review 18:Staff was friendly and gave good advice on local attractions, hikes and pubs.
Review 19:Nothing we had a fab week
Review 20:The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us ideas for day trips. For instance, we were told about St Nectan's Glen which was just a couple of miles away but was such magical place. We wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for the local knowledge of the staff.
Review 21:Nothing to dislike!
Review 22:Lovely welcome from owners, staff and locals. Perfect position for all the places we wanted to visit. Hotel food was exceptional - will definitely be returning.
Review 23:a chair would have been good in the room and a light and extractor that worked in the shower would be useful
Review 24:good breakfast and evening meals very pleasant staff
Review 25:The en suite shower-room. Absolutely tiny without a working extractor fan!!
Review 26:The landlord was really welcoming and made us feel at home. Loved the cosy sofas in the bar and the knights-in-armour! The atmosphere was lovely and dinner was really very good.
Review 27:Dinner was expensive for the quality and quantity. Only six or seven whitebait on a mountain of salad for the starter and one one small piece of belly pork for the main course.
Review 28:Friendly and helpful staff, excellent location right in the centre with free parking.
Review 29:The toilet was incredibly noisey after it was flushed and the shower cubicle itself could have done with a light in it.
Review 30:Ideal location to access the bus, the castle and all that the North Cornwall has to offer. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 31:We have just returned from a three night stay at the Tintagel Arms and we very much enjoyed our stay.we had meals on every evening and enjoyed the quality of the food very much.we are thinking of returning next year. The only downside was that they didn't sell my favourite beer ,Harbour Special and I had to make do with Bodmin Growler or some such beer which was ok but I'd have preferred The Harbour Special.I didn't mention the Breakfast which was perfect.
Review 32:Tight alley entrance to rear car park if you have a large vehicle. Steep staircase for medium/large cases. Ensuite in bedroom small space.
Review 33:Very central in Tintagel. Within easy walking distance of main tourist locations. Hotel staff helpful and friendly. A good location for touring in North Cornwall. Clean room and comfortable bed.
Review 34:The Tintagel Arms is a lovely hotel. Our room was very nice and clean and confortable. Breakfast was all good. We ate in the hotel in the evening also and rhe food was excellent.
Review 35:I booked on the web and was happy with my booking. The hotel was built in 1750 but it was comfortable, located in the heart of Tintagel so walking was easy. The staff were very friendly and it was a cozy place to stay. The breakfasts were great. Full English.
Review 36:It was in a really good location with parking. The facilities were clean and fresh. The food and drinks were good as well. The room was small but we knew that going in and enjoyed our stay.
Review 37:Front room directly over the street was a bit noisy but we liked the hustle and bustle (and we had the windows open).
Review 38:Ambiance, food, drink and friendly, helpful staff made our stay enjoyable. The surrounding area was wonderful for walks and stunning scenery was a photographers dream. Room was very comfortable and nicely decorated.
Review 39:Very poorcustomer service. We asked the hotel to postpone our booking due to family illness. They wouldn't and hid behind anonymous emails. We've travelled all over the world. We never complain, just make the best of things. However we have never faced such appalling service and ignorance.Very poor indeed
Review 40:No idea - we didn't get there!
Review 41:The menu was subject to change without prior notice and the times of the breakfast could have been extended to a much later time
Review 42:The views, scenery and the cleanliness of the village and we found the locals very helpful at times.
Review 43:Room 10 our room for the week was very small and cramped, we were always tripping over our stuff, not enough drawer space and no wardrobe just a couple of rails to hang clothes on so always on show. No where to sit just the bed so it was uncomfortable at times. I would have paid more for an upgrade if I had known before we went how small the room was. Maybe the info on the rooms should be more descriptive to help people decide which room to book. Have had bigger rooms for the same money and a wardrobe!! We had nowhere to put suitcases so had to put suitcases under window and be careful not to knock into them.
Review 44:It was nice to have a separate dining room in the pub. The staff very pleasant and cheerful. Really helped with their local knowledge of the walks around Tintagel.
Review 45:The communal areas of the hotel absolutely reeked to the point where I was retching. The staff within the restaurant were surly, unhelpful and plain rude. I have never felt so unwelcome anywhere in my life and the fact that every other visitor's food was wrong too did not help one jot!
Review 46:The room was clean, attractive and had a decent bed.
Review 47:The service was superb and we were given very helpful information by the staff regarding the local area. Lovely room and great breakfast! Will return.
Review 48:Our room had a 4 poster bed which unfortunately they had put the TV on the wall with a post through the middle!
Review 49:Classic pub with all the character that you expect in a village. Nothing is to much trouble and you get to meet some locals in the bar. The room was very well refurbished, the only criticism was the hot water in the shower which ran out twice.
Review 50:Room was a bit cramped as we had to fit a travel cot in as well.
Review 51:Staff very friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was excellent and a very good price. Likewise the breakfast.
Review 52:Only 1 thing and it's not a major problem but feel it should be pointed out, in our room with a four poster the tv was obstructed by the bed post, as I said nothing major but a bit infuriating.
Review 53:The room was lovely and clean, lovely white bedlinen and crisp white towels. The breakfast was lovely. We never ate in the hotel, a little busy, but the meals we saw coming through from the kitchen looked fab. The service was excellent. We will definately be going back
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:Everything, amazing place to stay for a value price. The staff (Byrony and Tony) were welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious. Everything was really clean.
Review 56:nothing
Review 57:Lovely room, great location and every member of staff were very friendly and did everything to help us and make us feel welcome. We really enjoyed our stay.
Review 58:Only to say for part of the evening the music was a bit loud but did not go on all evening and stopped early. But it is also a pub.
Review 59:Location, decor, shower, bed, parking,WiFi and food. Great value, especially the food.
Review 60:The familiar room, although it was more expensive than a double had the sink inside the room and the bathroom was too small.
Review 61:I really like the location and the staff, the bar and rooms are lovely and just a walk to the Tintagel Castle and other touristic locations. The breakfast was very good.
Review 62:The room, although quite small, was very clean and had everything we needed. It was very comfortable. We arrived very late after the check in time due to car trouble, but the staff were very accommodating and waited up to let us in.The full English breakfast was delicious and set us up for our day revisiting Tintagel Haven and Castle, my favourite places in the world.
Review 63:Bathroom/toilet cramped Douvet could have been larger Parking could be larger
Review 64:Ideal location Good tea making supplies Excellent very large breakfasts Excellent helpful Staff Comfortable bed Beautiful, large soft towels
Review 65:Room could have been a little more spacious.
Review 66:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful; town is very quaint and clean and situated to visit other places in Cornwall. We wished we could have stayed longer.
Review 67:Was told breakfast was 8.30-9.30. Came down at 9.05 and was told breakfast stops at 9. Agreed to provide breakfast but the woman was very rude and did not hide her disdain, even though she had misinformed us.
Review 68:Location
Review 69:The breakfast repeated on both of us because It very greasy.Sausage/ fried bread etc .both deep fried in a fryer . No excuse as we were the only guests staying that night.
Review 70:good location and good clean accommodation
Review 71:On arrival the l room was very cold , staff had the window open slightly for fresh air I guess , radiators were on but just warm , same as bathroom , it's was the coldest room we have ever had , after dinner (we ate in different place ) but had drinks in the hotel it was still cold , the whole hotel was cold ,we never took our big outer coats off , went back to our room , it was still cold , In the morning at breakfast we mentioned it and she ask us why we didn't say any thing the night before , so really we should have said something so not really hotels fault , the following evening and night and the following morning it was nice and warm , couldn't ask for more , breakfast time is only 1/2 hour time slot , maybe because it's Early in the season ..
Review 72:Staff , location , breakfast , wifi , room , We stayed 2 nights in march 2015 , on arrival was met with friendly staff , breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices ..bathroom was big and fresh and clean and new , bedroom was a fair size..all nice and clean , hotel allowed us to use the car park after we check out so we could visit a few more places before heading home
Review 73:We paid and additional £10 for a room "twice the size of the standard room with a 4 poster bed" on the basis of the photo in the e-mail. Our actual room was only just sufficient to accommodate a small (4ft 6") 4 poster, which was unfurnished with drapes of any kind. The bed was uncomfortable & the duvet was small with insufficient overhang either side. The furniture was old fashioned and not as in the photo. We complained that the room was not as advertised but were told "it had a larger bathroom". We did not wish to sleep in the bathroom! Some staff were helpful but others not. Breakfast was OK but very poor quality sausages. Overall a disappointment.
Review 74:The bathroom was recently refurbished and very clean and new
Review 75:The only criticism was the too narrow breakfast serving window- .5hr!
Review 76:Friendly staff , very bright clean hotel, Breakfast very pleasant + Restaurant tiptop Well done all at Tintagel Arms, I would recommend a visit.
Review 77:On check in we were informed that due to the time of year the bar would be closing at 8.30.and that if we wanted to order food it would have to be between 6.30 and 7.30. Really !!! On a Saturday evening. Very disappointed, we did however eat there and although the food was nice, we felt rushed by the barman ,urging us to pay our bill quickly if we were paying by card. We booked this hotel, as it advertised a log fire and as it was a winter break we were looking forward to a nice meal and a few drinks sitting by the fire. Not to be for us as the fire although there was not lit !!! Hence we spent the majority of our time in the other pubs in tintagel , who all had open fires and burning at that!!we only ever saw one member of staff, and we understand that he was working long hours, but we did pay £75 pounds and didn't get what we expected.
Review 78:The room was lovely although a little cold on arrival. Very clean and decorated beautifully.
Review 79:The only point I would mention is the mattress in the room could be newer as you rolled into the middle a little.
Review 80:Location ideal to the seaside and walking routes, rooms are very clean and have a nice size, very friendly and helpful staff, lovely cosy pub and great breakfast!
Review 81:No ground coffee available at breakfast. The rest of the breakfast was fine and served quickly.
Review 82:Staff made a real effort to provide everything we needed. The evening meal we had in the restaurant was very good and the premises were beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Review 83:The main bar area was quite cold compared with the other pubs. Like some other reviews the 4 poster bed was excess to requirements as it is a bit boring ,no curtains and if you did want to watch tv you couldn't do so from the bed as the struts were in the way. Plumbing a bit haphazard
Review 84:In a good position, good food, clean, and staff helpful and friendly,
Review 85:Room was rather small but we were only there for one night
Review 86:Pub was extremely friendly. You felt like one of the locals. Even thou menu was quite basic food was very enjoyable & breakfast was ample for the long day ahead .
Review 87:Welcome of staff-we were late arriving after a long journey-absolutely no effort made to accomodate us ie sandwich. Nothing seemed to be possible even though the chef was still on site and the restaurant was very quiet. The hotel is tired and needs updating-the staff do absolutely nothing to make you feel welcome, talk to you or ask if there is anything else you need or would like. We were very disappointed as we love this area but would not go to this hotel again.
Review 88:Location-perfect for exploring the area
Review 89:The only bad point I could possibly make is that I was here for work and not a holiday.
Review 90:Stayed here for business. Staff at hotel were great from the start. Even offered to make me sandwiches to take to work as I left too early for breakfast. Nice touch I thought. Rooms and hotel in general were very clean and maintained. Whilst I never ate in the hotel due to being late home from work, speaking to other guests in the bar area at night, the food was well recommended. Would stay again without a doubt.
Review 91:Nothing !
Review 92:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the standard and variety of the vegetarian food and would not hesitate to visit again.
Review 93:Again the poor parking very small carpark badly lit
Review 94:Enjoyed our stay my only complaint was the poor parking very small and poorly lit otherwise excellent
Review 95:Being rushed a bit (without a word from the staff, just the feeling) from dining area after finishing breakfast (served only between 8.30 and 9 am)
Review 96:Location, polite staff, room (family room comfortable for 2 adults and 15th years old)
Review 97:Family room was incredibly small with no room for luggage. Double bed was small and uncomfortable
Review 98:Hotel is right in the middle of Tintagel which is fantastic and the breakfast was good (although coffee tasteless)
Review 99:Tintagel is a bit of a dump at night, few bars and restaurants. A long walk to castle.
Review 100:Comfy room, nice, bar, car parking, food looked nice but we ate out.
Review 101:as I have mobility issues . location very good -parking good on site -breakfast very good if full English eater, which my husband is, I do not eat very much , so I would have likd e a choice. But would recommend this hotel good beer garden
Review 102:This is the second time that myself & my partner have stayed at Tintagel Arms & we were warmly welcomed as always. Our room was first class as was the nice wide shower cubicle. All the staff go the extra mile to make sure your stay is enjoyable & nothing is too much trouble. We will be staying again in 2015 for sure.
Review 103:We stayed 4 nights, room excellent. Ate here in the evenings, could not find better locally, nor could other diners. Really need to book, unless you don't mind waiting for a table. Would rate this total 4 star.
Review 104:picture of pool on sign in front of hotel but no sign of it anywhere
Review 105:local people hotel/pub hospitality clean and well kept. staff location was really fab for visiting other locations.
Review 106:Rooms could stand new comforters and linens as they were worn, making the room seem shabbier than it would have otherwise.
Review 107:Location is fabulous, breakfast was lovely. Able to take public footpath directly behind the hotel up to the church and cliffs. Fabulous morning walk!
Review 108:It was a four poster bed but we couldn't watch TV because the bed frame is on the middle of TV, bathroom really dusty. Swimming pool should be heated but broken
Review 109:The only minor complaint was that breakfast was only served between 8.30am and 9am
Review 110:Staff were friendly and helpful The rooms and all areas were clean The breakfasts were great and the food in the evening was superb
Review 111:Nothing to dislke.
Review 112:Wonderful place. Knights in armor in the dining room and the pub. Meals were great. Room was wonderful and the bathroom was very big. Within walking distance of the Castle (which is why we went there). We didn't have a car but the buses were only a short walk down the road. Beautiful small village feeling. Love it and will return.
Review 113:I stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting relatives. I was made to feel extremely welcome and was very comfortable there. Only reason quality of sleep was not excellent was a personal one, bed and room both very good, bathroom was excellent. I thorough enjoyed the live music on Monday evening which was a selection of folk and country. Not intrusive at all, nice volume, more like a jamming session.
Review 114:Very friendly, happy atmosphere, quiet at night, excellent food & plenty to choose from, easy to get to, good parking facilities, comfortable and relaxing.
Review 115:The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and spacious, we like the extras given in the bathroom (shampoo, soap). The free parking was safe and very convenient. The breakfast was yummy and served in a lovely dining room, with great decorations with suits of armor. The food served in the hotel was also great. The staff was very kind and friendly. We especially like the fact that they had a menu in the room with the local attractions in, as well as supermarket and petrol station options. :). Tintagel was a great place to explore, both historic sites and places of natural beauty. We would love to go back! :)
Review 116:The room was small and claustrophobic and the bed was only a standard 4'6". Mattress was thin and not very comfortable.
Review 117:The location and food was good, breakfast in particular. Staff very helpfull.
Review 118:Car parking was a slight issue, but then again that's because its a very popular pub.
Review 119:We stayed 2 nights here whilst touring Cornwall. Lovely wee hotel/pub, staff very friendly and the room (we had room 9 with a cute 4 poster) was comfy and clean. Our room was at the front on the main street, but in this quiet village you can keep the windows open and noise is not an issue. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and we ate there one of our nights and the dinner was great. Would definitely recommend.
Review 120:Nothing at all xxxxx
Review 121:Everything you would need and want away from home from tv in the room for the Daughter and a bar downstairs for the Hubby ! They were lovely people and helped with queries immediately. Breakfast for my family can be awkward to cater for, but was made easy and was delicious.
Review 122:Small bathroom and shower only just big enough to stand in
Review 123:Central location in town and short walk to beach and castle. Helpful & friendly staff & use of swimming pool
Review 124:We had a very warm welcome. The rooms were very comfortable and in excellent location for shops and restaurants and walking. Not noisy despite room overlooking main road. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful.
Review 125:Excellent location for visiting Tintagel castle which was the main reason for our trip. Staff were all lovely and very helpful. Although we didn't get chance to use the outside pool it looked very welcoming with some good facilities (fridge, BBQ, tumble dryer) hoping to return again next year.
Review 126:Beautifully decorated for Xmas and a welcoming atmosphere. fantastic hosts/owners for new years eve. A good night had by all. Will be back.
Review 127:Everything
Review 128:Friendly staff!!!
Review 129:Great location as a base for exploring this part of Cornwall. Staff are great and dogs are made welcome.
