Reviews for Kirkgate House Hotel
Review 1:The tv in the room was extra small
Review 2:The manager could not have been more helpful I had to leave early for business so he got up early and made me toast and tea !!!
Review 3:a little dated and showing signs of wear especially the shower which was grubby and small as well as being underpowered. The double bed was in fact two single beds with a wafer thin mattress which made it an uncomfortable night sleep. although there was on site private parking if you are driving anything than a medium size (width) car access to the parking would be difficult down the alleyway access
Review 4:excellent location, very friendly host
Review 5:I expected for such an establishment and rating more than the minimum milk cartons and tea bags-I do not expect to go and ask for more-only 2 cups of tea allowed per person. I also thought that the shower gel and shampoo could have been more generous-1 bottle of each for the two of us. Towels were small. A jug/bottles of water would have been welcome.
Review 6:The host was very friendly and efficient, the location was great and the room immaculately clean.
Review 7:Nothing bad to report.
Review 8:We went to Thirsk to visit the Herriot Museum and the location of Kirkgate House could not have been better. The market place is just a minutes walk away and we found some very good places to eat there. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner and shown to our room which was spacious, comfortable and warm. The breakfast was well presented and tasty. If we go to Thirsk again we would definitely stay at Kirkgate House.
Review 9:There's nothing I'd change
Review 10:Felt like being at home. Geoff was very friendly and helpful. He was always around to offer advice on walks, local attractions or where to eat, couldn't ask for more. P.s great full English breakfast every morning
Review 11:The King room we had was large and pleasant with a very large and comfortable bed. Breakfast was very filling. Thanks to Geoff for his recommendations on where to eat and local attractions.
Review 12:Only negatives.......small towels and the breakfast could be a little bigger.
Review 13:Great location and traditional style BnB with a very helpful host, free parking and comfy bed :-)
Review 14:Lots of room. Good shower. Very convenient to the town centre. The owner was very nice at allowing us to leave our suitcases there in the morning (as check-in wasn't until the afternoon)
Review 15:friendly greetings, wide range of literature for local attractions, owner had a wide range of knowledge of the local area including transport links, breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice, rooms were comfy and loved the additional little extra touches
Review 16:No, all good.
Review 17:Geoffrey was immensely friendly and helpful, appearing as if by magic when we needed him. The house was beautiful, an experience in itself. Location was perfect for the town, while being very quiet.
Review 18:Took a while to get checked in and left with the key, as the host likes to chat. Very squeaky floorboards in room 7 (although we realise that is a feature of older buildings).
Review 19:Perfect location; friendly host; lovely old artefacts and features in the hotel.
Review 20:A very characterful premises and nice to see a variety of books distributed around.. Amazing breakfast eggs!! Generally a nice atmosphere and location couldn't be bettered.
Review 21:Water pressure was a little low but home in amazing condition for 214 years!!!
Review 22:Great location; close to downtown core. Fabulous views from our window to pasture with sheep, slate rooftops, sunsets.... Room was lovely & clean. Owner had great knowledge and a great host. Breakfast was yummy. Decided to stay a 2nd nite in Thirsk.
Review 23:Very comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast and special provision made for my not eating or drinking citrus, apple juice. Very convenient for town centre and park.
Review 24:My companion and I felt this was not as walker friendly as others we had stayed. More could have been done to help us after a long walk. There was little flexibility with an early breakfast time. this B and B is quite far from the trail head. It is the norm for walker friendly places to provide transportation to and from the trail head. Kirkgate House does not have this service.
Review 25:We appreciated Amanda's friendliness and warmth. She was interested in our journey and in helping us. Amanda's bright and bubbly personality is suited to a B and B.
Review 26:The shower dribbled out and was too hot so neither of us could wash properly. Owner said he would get plumber in to look at it.
Review 27:Loved the Yorkshire and Herriot books and information on the landings and in the bedrooms which were available to read. Central location a few doors up from James Herriot museum, Thirsk museum (Lords cricket), Village square. Fairly quiet, very large family room and bathroom. Window seats in room. Private parking. Friendly owner who gave info on all eateries.
Review 28:The host was very friendly, welcoming and helpful at all times. The room was clean and comfortable and breakfasts were satisfying. The town location was central for sight-seeing.
Review 29:Not being able to book in till 4.30 we had traveled for many hours and thought we could have least dropped our bags and used the toilet, but we had to wait 2 hours.Bedroom carpet was very dirty with large stains.
Review 30:Location
Review 31:All was perfect and Geoffrey, our host truly has the gift of hospitality !
Review 32:The location is the center of town was perfect and down the street from the James Herriot world was also a requirement for us.
Review 33:The room was small but adequate. The decor was tired and in need of a makeover. The floorboards squeaked and a king size bed would have been more comfortable. However would stay there again as these issues only superficial and did not spoil our stay.
Review 34:The host was very welcoming. The bedding was very tasteful, the Tv worked fine and there was tea and coffee facilities. Location was brilliant.
Review 35:Tight squeze to get ave size car thru coaching entry to car park. Feather pillows and too warm duvet for summer gave us poor night's sleep. WiFi - password didn't work.Check in not til 4.30pm
Review 36:Friendly & informative owner. Got soya milk for me. Central location.Good shower. Picture books on yorkshire etc to send us to sleep.
Review 37:Geoff was very friendly and a font of local information, recommending things to see and useful travel tips, unlike Chelmsford the York park & ride is very good. A lovely cooked breakfast to set me up for the day. Good parking. A nice relaxing stay.
Review 38:Late check in time.
Review 39:Arrived to find excellent parking facilities. Geoffrey welcomed us in true Yorkshire fashion. Our room was comfortable and spacious, a tiny bit frayed at the edges but lacking nothing we needed and perfectly clean. Good breakfast. All in all a first rate B&B.
Review 40:Bedroom (Room 8 on the 3rd floor) floors were very noisy and we were worried about disturbing the people in the room below, also if you were walking about in the night it disturbed the other person sleeping.
Review 41:Location to the town centre and very good full English breakfast.
Review 42:The parking is down a narrow mews so care needs to be taken when accessing it.
Review 43:A convenient location in the heart of Thirsk. Close to all amenities and within walking distance of many sites of interest. A lovely old house that is well maintained.
Review 44:None i can think off

Review 47:location was great, breakfast good
Review 48:Geoffrey, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was comfortable, clean and well equipped and we liked the fresh milk for tea and coffee in the room rather that the standard UHT milk that so many hotels provide.
Review 49:Nothing to not like.
Review 50:Very homely, lovely decor, ideal location just off the main square, but very quiet. Spotlessly clean. The owner Geoffrey was lovely and very helpful. Off road parking for motorbikes. Would definitely recommend.

Review 60:Location, just steps away from The World of James Herriot, and very near the town center Spacious, comfortable, immaculate room (Room 7, but I am sure that all are just as nice!) Delicious breakfast, accommodating dietary restrictions Geoff and Julie Dixon were so warm, welcoming, and helpful, and made me feel at home. Reasonably priced--excellent value.
Review 61:Not a wide choice for breakfast. Rooms need redecorating and a good clean in some places - top of curtain pelmet was thick with dust and could be seen just by looking at it.
