Reviews for Grant Arms Hotel

Review 1:The Muzak in the dining room!! Hey, I like The Bangles as much as anyone but Bangles Muzak, not so much. Also, seems like classical music and/or tasteful scottish music would be much more in keeping with the character of the hotel.

Review 2:Very convenient for my purpose. Staff friendly. Very reasonable rates, good food.

Review 3:there was a warm welcome on arrival with even the manager introducing himself to us. The room was spacious, warm, clean and had tea/coffee facilities and some shortbread. The food was excellent, helpings generous and the staff helpful and friendly. A great stay.

Review 4:Would have preferred to have shampoo and conditioner supplied rather than pump shower gel/ shampoo which has a terrible effect on hair. I also don't like using pump shower gel and moisturiser that have been used by other people. I would have expected these things for a hotel of this standing. However it was not a huge problem as there are several hairdressers in Grantown

Review 5:I booked a single room and was given a very spacious twin room which was recently refurbished , and recently new bath, sink and toilet in a very spacious bathroom. Food in the restaurant was very good and the offer of cooking me fresh scrambled egg rather than having what was already out in buffet trays was very welcome. Dinner was excellent each night with a different menue each night. All staff very friendly and provided an excellent service.

Review 6:Zero complaints.

Review 7:Staff from top to bottom was super, the hotel is spotless clean, very homey, every single meal in the hotel was 5-stars. We travel Europe a lot and this week was the best hotel experience we have had ever. I recommend without hesitation. We will return again and again.

Review 8:The view of the fire escape, only joking

Review 9:Easy parking close by, .welcoming and helpfull staff, excellent menu. We felt if was a very "Scotish traditional hotel"

Review 10:Small uncomfortable bed. We had a large room but only a standard double bed when there was ample room for a king size.

Review 11:Location. The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful.

Review 12:Nothing.

Review 13:Good comfortable room ( I had ordered a S ingle but got a nice twin).Food very good and good choice.Staff, especially in dining room, excellent.Deserves 10 out of 10. First visit 53 years ago. Will be back.

Review 14:Clean friendly and comfortable, within a reasonable budget. The hotel is in the town, which is an enjoyable meander around a good variety of shops. The Chef uses as much local fayre as possible and the hearty breakfast, quality and selection sets you up for the day. Staff are very friendly and listen for the night-time background effect in the lounge, very special.

Review 15:Not a bad experience, but could not open my bedroom window & although room very clean and spacious, there was a large stain on the bedroom carpet.

Review 16:The friendliness of the staff and the comfortable public rooms. I would certainly return.

Review 17:Booked & paid for B&B, yet was charged extra for breakfast upon check out. Was told that this was the fault of booking.com, not a matter for the hotel! Not wishing to cause a fuss, reluctantly paid up. Wasn't asked how my stay was, didn't even get a thank you or goodbye!

Review 18:Good location, one member of reception staff was lovely.

Review 19:The bed was a bit wabbly, so every time I turned the bed wabbled a lot.

Review 20:The staff was very friendly helping me print out my boarding pass for the airport and also guiding me about the hiking routes in the area.

Review 21:Woeful wifi, virtually non-existent.

Review 22:Great breakfast - full English and great black pudding and mushrooms. Great organised walk through the woods in the morning.

Review 23:The room was dark all day, probably due to the fact the fire escape was right outside window. Also the boiler seemed to make a noise all night. Disappointed, as a lone resident I appear to have been allocated one of the hotel's lower standard rooms.

Review 24:Good location of hotel, very central. Friendly staff, bar very well furnished and comfortable to spend time in. Dining room light and airy.

Review 25:1. Most items in buffet style cooked breakfast were almost cold and well below safe recommended limit for "hot holding" 2. One night stay, check out 1100, but maid knocking on door at 0900 wanting to make-up room!

Review 26:Friendly staff-beautiful hotel-all finishes in all areas are to a very high standard. Great location centre of village, very peaceful at night. Breakfast available from 0700-1000.

Review 27:perfect location in the centre of town. Large and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty. I needed a help with printing - very helpful staff

Review 28:Food was a little expensive including breakfast if you had not prebooked it Bed and pillows uncomfortable Walls very thin as had very noisy nerighbours and lots of pople coming upstairs till 2 and 3pm making a lot of noise

Review 29:Great location Lovely hotel Nice large room

Review 30:Wifi terrible atm Don't think it's the hotel's fault as BT are upgrading to fibre broadband in the area

Review 31:Lovely time here. Staff very helpful and efficient

Review 32:The only drawback was the opening hours of the bar

Review 33:A classy hotel but still a great price. The staff could not have been more helpful. Grantown is a very friendly town - have been recommending it non-stop since we got back.

Review 34:Excellent location for visiting the Cairngorms. The hotel specialises in catering for visitors interested in local wildlife, with knowledgeable staff who organise visits to places of interest or can suggest suitable places for an independent visit. There are invited experts on different specialist subjects, and whilst we stayed there was an excellent specialist in entomology from Aberdeen University who led field trips catering to our needs, gave evening talks and set up moth traps overnight. He also arranged for us to visit a private wildflower site as we had expressed an interest in the local botany. We used the hotel's private bird hide to view Slavonian grebes, and also used their well- stocked library. The food was excellent, with complimentary coffee in the lounge after dinner. Grantown was very pleasant with many rural walks within a few minutes of the hotel. We only had a short stay but wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 35:Even though it was explained to people to close the old fashioned liftdoor, people still left it open so sometimes it was unavailable - notthe hotel's fault. Bed was ok but I've had better and need agood one for my back.

Review 36:I liked the old-fashioned lift with the cage doors. It added somecharacter. The breakfast was good but I was seated in an area with alarge bus crowd which made me want to finish quickly rather than relax.

Review 37:View if fire escape...although it has to be somewhere

Review 38:Lovely roomy hotel. Did not feel surrounded by other guests despite a coach party. Great bar with plenty of whisky and a fantastic hot toddy! Lovely bathroom.

Review 39:Epic journey to room, low water pressure in shower, no wi-fi anywhere except in reception area.

Review 40:Convenient location, comfortable bed. good breakfast (excellent black pudding!)

Review 41:The hotel was excellent value for money. Very central for lovely walks and central to for shops etc. Would certainly recommend this hotel to any other visitor to the area.

Review 42:Limited informal eating opportunities in the evening but plenty of alternatives in the vicinity.

Review 43:Room was a good size and comfortable with good views of the Cromdale Hills

Review 44:The Mattress ....it just wasn't flat and ended up sleeping in the middle where the hump was, if I had stayed longer I would have had it replaced which I'm sure the staff would be most obliging.

Review 45:Friendly staff, Cleanliness, Breakfast, The Selection of Single Malt Whisky's at the Bar.

Review 46:No bad experience.

Review 47:We like the range of information and wildlife facilities. There is always something organised to do - even if we don't take up the suggestions!

Review 48:Food a bit hit and miss ....Some really excellent dishes (e.g. scottish steak) but some not so good. Small changes such as better coffee and fresh juice at breakfast would be an improvement. Room a bit small.

Review 49:Excellent base for bird watching. Daily updates from friendly knowledgeable staff and no problems settling in even as a beginner. Good facilities such as a free diy laundry with dryer and a boot/drying room show are a good addition.

Review 50:Quiet comfortable room. Cosy. Big fluffy towels. Helpful staff. Nice food. Great location. Easy parking. Thoughtful extras like drying room, useful information and daily bird info.

Review 51:Not really a criticism but restaurant a little pricey. No bar food alternative in evenings but room service available.

Review 52:Clean, comfortable room, lots of walking nearby. Excellent breakfast.

Review 53:Some food was cold (including the after dinner tea served in the bar) Some was very dry (bread at dinner, profiteroles for dessert and black pudding at breakfast) Some was overcooked (risotto, baked beans, poached eggs)

Review 54:Friendly hotel, lots of activities for wildlife lovers, excellent location, spacious and clean rooms.

Review 55:The constant Christmas music every breakfast every evening meal put Radio 2 on like The Garth

Review 56:I liked the welcome on arrival along with the open fire in the reception every one was friendly and more than helpfull the birding theme was very close to my heart, loved it.

Review 57:No room service, despite a menu in the room. When we called for room service the first time, they hung up. The second time no answer. The third time we were told that they don't do room service. Getting a call at 2:30am complaining about noise. We were only talking. Overpriced food and wine. Will not stay here ever again.

Review 58:Very spacious bathroom

Review 59:Wifi was a bit slow, but who cares, we didnt use it very much!

Review 60:The staff were fantastic, they looked after a party of around 15 of us over a weekend. David the hotel manager was brilliant, making sure that everything was perfect for the whole group. Its a lovely old hotel, with very cean rooms and pet friendly too.

Review 61:Parking is limited. The evening menu didn't do it for us but theres alternative eateries nearby and in Aviemore.

Review 62:Grant Arms Hotel provided a really convenient and comfortable venue for our recent stay in Grantown on Spey. It knocks spots off its nearby competitor. Bedrooms were large, comfortable and immaculately clean. Bed was welcoming and comfortable. Self serve buffet Breakfast was filling and cooked to order eggs were appreciated. Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is functional and caters for the needs of nature lovers and 'birders' extremely well. Would definitely stay again.

Review 63:Cold breakfasts Being seated at the same table every morning, with all the better placed ones left empty Arrived home at 10.45 one evening and locked out! Could have been very nasty as we had no keys and had been told 11.00 pm was the cut off time.

Review 64:Location Wildlife info

Review 65:I felt the menu pricing was unclear. I thought the guest rate was 20 pounds for dinner but we were charged the full rate of 29 pounds. As we had booked at breakfast this did not seem very fair. Also it was not clear when using Booking. com that a package including dinner was an option.

Review 66:So much information about surrounding areas with great suggestions regarding excursions. Friendly informative staff. Really enjoyed our visit.

Review 67:Not many choices for dinner in the high street.

Review 68:The hotel was in a central location and had lovely communal areas. Service was good with friendly staff

Review 69:Not ideal location but could not get anything near my destination for the next day (Keith).

Review 70:I knew where it was, stayed there before, and knew I would get parked up OK. I aslo had the choice of eating out.

Review 71:Nothing negative springs to mind, overall a very pleasant stay.

Review 72:Central location of hotel in town, able to park outside. Wildlife library excellent source of information and BWWC representatives very helpful. Good selection of wildlife magazines in the room, and enjoyed reading the Daily Chirp each morning at breakfast. Food was good too.

Review 73:Main dinner courses (dried out outer layer on pork belly one evening, same problem on shank of lamb 2 nights later). Small bottles of wine at almost £8 each - very naughty!!

Review 74:Everything but main dinner courses and price for small bottles of wine.

Review 75:evening meal choice was not to our taste to much dishes in sauces and fancy . not enough plain home cooking

Review 76:hotel was clean ,staff very helpful enjoyed our stay would go again

Review 77:We checked in around 6:30 pm, when we got to our room we noticed that in hadn't been serviced, although the maid had made the bed look as if it had been changed, there was rubbish in the bin and the sheets were serviced. We complained and the girl in reception did her best to put it right straight away. Breakfast is average, not cooked to order. All in all the facilities and service do not justify the price.

Review 78:Very good location in a nice building, spacious rooms. Potential to be a good hotel if properly run.

Review 79:Hearing the bed in the room above squeaking away. Wifi that doesn't work due to lack of bandwidth. Very expensive food and total lack of atmosphere

Review 80:Middle of town location, clean

Review 81:Poor value dinner Mediocre buffet breakfast (not all items from the menu available) Real ale not well kept.

Review 82:Breakfast served from 7am on a Sunday. Real ale available with dinner. Windows that you could open. Bathroom with a bath! Spacious room. Central location.

Review 83:Waiters not clued up about the wine. Overpriced wine in the bar Coffee served in the bar/lounge was not good

Review 84:Location central Good parking facilities Helpful staff on Reception Like the link with the wildlife Trust and plenty to keep you occupied if you are interested in this both in the hotel and in the surrounding area The restaurant food is excellent Rooms comfortable and warm and showers worked well.

Review 85:Bar didn't open until 5.30pm,food very expensive, ran out of some breakfast items an hour before service ended,no atmosphere.

Review 86:Room comfort,staff polite

Review 87:Slow wifi, very untidy and inexperienced staff serving dinner (who obviously had not read dinner menu properly before taking order).

Review 88:Comfortable room, powerful shower, free wifi, great set up for those interested in bird watching/nature walks

Review 89:This is not really a "don't like" but an improvement idea, instead of giving the kids menu forst to families, tell them what half portion for the lovely local food you can supply to children, not all kids like everything with chips, as the only option. My daughter and her friend has the starter, as a main meal of the home made salmon fishcakes with salad and dip and a sweet to follow. They could have had hald portion of the pasta or the beef stew, but only after me asking after seeing the poor kids menu, your really missing a trick offer the half portions first of the lovely freshly made local food.

Review 90:Availability of twin rooms, good food and nice breakfast, good use of local ingredients. Clean rooms and nice size bathrooms.

Review 91:Situated right on main street. Staff very pleasant. Room clean and had plenty storage space. Bathroom looked very new with hot water, good shower and also very clean. Good food. Dining room spacious and bright with good service. Public areas were very well kept and inviting as soon as you entered.

Review 92:My bed had an under sheet which caused uncomfortable wrinkling. No tumbler for use when cleaning teeth.

Review 93:Friendly staff, clean facility, good food and a generally relaxing atmosphere.

Review 94:nothing, apart from breakfast, the full Scottish was not good !!

Review 95:the welcome, the lovely room, so welcoming , cosy and spotless

Review 96:The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The food is very good and the room was comfortable.

Review 97:it wasnt a bad experience but iwould have liked a room at the front so i could have seen the christmas lights in the square. disappointed.

Review 98:Tried to change booking but told would be charged full amount

Review 99:Close to Orkney ferries

Review 100:Nothing

Review 101:Great hotel. Very good location .

Review 102:excellent, very friendly staff

Review 103:Upgraded to superior room.

Review 104:Everything

Review 105:WiFi is poor

Review 106:noisy guests above me who couldnt walk quietly over the floor.not funny at 1.40 in the morning.

Review 107:lovely food,really nice staff.

Review 108:All we could see from the window was a fire escape and the room wasn't cheap!

Review 109:The laundry. Lots of info about wildlife

Review 110:Very comfortable traditional hotel. A lovely old building but kept up to date nicely. Excellent food and friendly staff.

Review 111:Beds a little hard, and the window opened onto the emergency exit.

Review 112:Rooms were comfortable and well appointed with plenty of room.Staff were helpful

Review 113:The staff brilliant , the breakfast beautiful.

Review 114:Nothing of note.

Review 122:Old style hotel with large rooms and a sense of character

Review 123:Excellent Staff Comfortable bed Well presented room and bathroom.

Review 124:Like most Scottish hotels, it is slightly drab inside

Review 125:Staff were very friendly, hotel was very clean and comfortable overall and breakfast was great!!

Review 127:Almost everything
