Reviews for The Lamb Inn
Review 1:We received a very warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble, every effort was made to meet our needs despite the hotel being extremely busy. Our room was comfortable with a very spacious bathroom. The food was good too.
Review 2:As its an inn there is inn noise until closing time so if you want a quiet early night this might not suit you
Review 3:Friendly staff. Great meals. Breakfast fabulous.
Review 4:What a lovely place to stay! Old, beamy pub with excellent rooms. Restaurant outstanding. Bar has a selection of real ales and a good wine list. Staff are very friendly and efficient.
Review 5:Nice clean, comfortable room and friendly staff. Nice quiet village setting. The breakfast was excellent. We also enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant one evening.
Review 6:Soup was a bit bland. Vegetarian option on main menu could be better.
Review 7:Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely suite which was clean and well presented. Loads of character. Generally excellent food served promptly, well presented and generous portions. Good breakfast. Nice location.
Review 8:The only negative was the young lady serving at breakfast on our final day. She patently didn't want to be there! Having said that, all of the other staff were outstanding.
Review 9:The location, the atmosphere, the overall welcome, the friendliness of the team and the food!
Review 10:Exterior building work in progress with scaffolding present Room was ok and confortable but overpriced for what it was
Review 11:Beautifiul quiet location - friendly staff
Review 12:Nothing
Review 13:We enjoyed staying in a charming, historic Inn in the heart of the Cotswolds. Our room (the Rissington Suite) was very spacious and had a wonderful old world character). The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Review 14:The place is very nice and cozy. Room has been located separately from the main building which is nice and private. Bathroom is New with Modern design. Heater is good all over the room including bathroom so it's very comfortable for our kids. Staffs are great and very helpful, they're serving a self-services food order to my room on the raining night with a very good smile. Food is so Awesome..!!! I really mean it..!!! Both Ala-cart Dinner and By-Order Breakfast..!!! Don't just plan to stay here, plan to have your dinner here on your arrival date as well.. !! Parking is quite limit, I obtain the last slot at street-side on my arrival at 9 pm..
Review 15:Not particularly a bad experience but some noise early in the morning. Think it might be on a flight path so double glazed windows would be better for the room we were in which at one time would have been the stables.
Review 16:Very comfortable. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Absolutely delicious scrambled eggs at breakfast.
Review 17:bathroom tiny evening meal steak pie homemade but black round edges also floating in gravy which they offered to remove I said no breakfast dead fly on my bacon which they did changethe bacon only
Review 18:Returned starters in the restaurant (cold soufflé) but staff handled it exceptionally well. We had no prior warning of the roof being totally replaced. Didn't affect us but left an uneasy feeling; it also affected some of the access!
Review 19:Staff gave excellent service, but facilities left things to be desired. Yes! the room had a shower over the bath, but one of us couldn't stand upright beneath it!
Review 20:Well...you do have to drive down about a 2 mile country road to find it--but it is a pretty drive.
Review 21:The Inn, despite some ongoing yet unobtrusive renovations, is positively delightful. The room facilities are absolutely top notch and décor what you would hope for. The owners are ever present and so many potential service problems never even hint at happening. The food and food presentation was some of the best we've ever experience in England. Where on earth did they find this chef ? A pub dish diner, a continental style diner seeking a bit of haute cuisine, or a "whole foods crunchy type" could all find contentment here.
Review 22:The room was a little cramped (Stable room 12) but it had everything we needed.
Review 23:The staff were welcoming and there was a cosy atmosphere. The vegetarian menu was good. It was nice to have a cooked vegetarian option.
Review 24:Only down size was the size of the room and the shower cubicle. However seeing as this is such an old building it can't be helped and in no way did it detract from the experience of our stay.
Review 25:The staff very friendly and helpful and the food on both nights was excellent as well as the breakfasts. The location was very nice and the building was lovely old and quirky. We will definitely be visiting again in the future
Review 26:This is how it should be done. I pity the next hotel I stay in after The Lamb Inn as it will be a hard act to follow. Fabulous staff, amazing food and superb accommodation. We stayed in the Windrush Suite which is beautiful.
Review 27:Nothing.
Review 28:This was a welcoming, friendly and quaint hotel which perfectly matched our expectations of the Cotswold region. We particularly enjoyed our room - the Burford suite - which was much larger than expected.
Review 29:No parking ever available, no reception staff, leaking toilet which was never addressed over the 3 days of our stay. TV didn't work & no action was taken. Bed squeaked , bathroom was cramped with no shelf , no tissues & no soap replacement. Owners appeared to be absent or disinterested.
Review 30:Atmospheric restaurant with very good food
Review 31:The staff, especially Marina, was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Our suite was sweet! The ambience was perfect for the Cotswolds. The location was central as a home base to visit the towns and villages of the area.
Review 32:Bed was on a bit of a lean but everything else was great...
Review 33:What an atmosphere. 400 years old. And a lovely place. Staff were very friendly. Picture Purfect.......
Review 34:We found it a little bit difficult to find. Great Rissington does not appear on signposts until you are very close to it.Perhaps if we had sat nav it would have been easier. We soon learnt the two ways in and out.
Review 35:the lamb is a lovely old building and has a great atmosphere, is spotlessly clean, the bedroom and bathroom had everything you could ask for. Very nice bar and restaurant, great food. Paul and his team are doing a great job and look after you very well
Review 36:when i booked through you I requested a quiet room as I have problems sleeping.I got instead a room which contained 2 very large boilers which served some rooms and sounded like a train ...going on and off every 5 mins when anybody used toilet/showers etc.It was truly dreadful and i got no sleep at al.Staff stated that you know this problem exists with this hotel and had you told me I could have chosen somewhere else. Genuinely distressed as my daughter had also just got married the day before so was very emotional anyway.Last thing I needed was this.
Review 37:the location and staff
Review 38:Beautiful room. Spacious with all mod cons. Great food in the restaurant and excellent service. Perfect location for exploring the main sights of the cotswolds
Review 39:My 4th stay at The Lamb, as each of my trips to the uk (from Australia)are not complete unless I stay at 'my home away from home.' Ialways look forward to this part of my travels, and the great staff. Icannot fault it.
Review 40:When we booked it said bourton on the water was a twenty minute walk 1 hour later we got there. Evening meal nothing to write home about expensive and average
Review 41:Nice location with pretty outlook
Review 42:Although bedroom small, it was clean and pleasantly decorated. The staff were very pleasant and helpful We booked in for a meal and found it really enjoyable. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
Review 43:We didn't have a bad experience but thought that the prices in the restaurant were quite expensive and there was not really a lot of choice on the menu. We only had dinner there 1 day out of the 3 that we stayed.
Review 44:We liked our room very much and the staff were very helpful. The breakfasts were also very good.
Review 45:Wifi not reliable in rooms, but ok in common area
Review 46:Charming bed and breakfast in the heart of Cotswold countryside with gracious staff and full cooked breakfast.
Review 47:We had a lovely suite with beautiful very spacious bathroom. The place is very atmospheric with exposed beams and feel of a very old house, but at the same time very comfortable and equipped with all the modern utilities. It was very clean and the restaurant was truly excellent! They offered British food of top quality, it would be hard to match it.
Review 48:The bathroom was ok but the shower was very weak and so made showering a little time consuming, this could be improved, but this is a minor point, everything else was great.
Review 49:The location was quiet and just what we wanted
Review 50:We loved the location, friendly atmosphere at the Inn, well equipped and very comfortable suite, friendly and helpful staff and locals and the food and local beer were excellent
Review 51:None
Review 52:Virtually everything. Very attentive, wonderful food and extremely friendly staff. And our German Shepherd approved. Pity it was such a short stay but we will return for longer next time
Review 53:None really. Minor noise from outside carries a little. Breakfast poached eggs one morning over cooked but that's just finicky.
Review 54:Beautiful location. Pleasant and cheerful staff. Room thoroughly cleaned and stocked daily...tea, coffee, biscuits etc etc. Beer garden a delight, quiet seclusion.
Review 55:Not a bad experience but just would like to highlight bathroom door would not shut properly and had no lock on it. Room was close to road therefore could be a little noisy.Otherwise no problems.
Review 56:Friendly ,good food, lovely room.
Review 57:We were in room 2, and unfortunately there were some noisy water pumps situated in a cupboard in the room.
Review 58:Staff helpful and approachable. Good local sourced foods for breakfast.
Review 59:The only negative which really isn't that bad is the website that I looked at made you believe the hotel was right at the heart of Bourton on the water where in fact it's 3 miles from the town. But a positive negative if there is such a thing as location turned out to be fabulous
Review 60:Friendly staff, great atmosphere and food excellent
Review 61:Room was a bit disappointing, bed was not comfy
Review 62:Location and look of the beautiful Lame Inn building. Food was very tasty can recommend eating in the restaurant.
Review 63:It is a Inn we paid extra for a suite the bed was terrible kitchen smells all the time through open windows for air The restaurant was extremely expensive was hoping as an Inn that the food would be moderate price Very wrong
Review 64:Ian disabled but quite mobile however it was difficult to manage the stairs. What handrail there was was quite wobbly & there is one part where there is no handrail. I had stated that I was disabled & have a blue badge at time of booking but that did not seem to have tregistered with anyone. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Review 65:Lovely historic building in great location. Fabulous countryside & within easy distance of other Cotswold villages. Room was very clean & there was a plentiful supply of tea & coffee. Food was excellent & staff were friendly.
Review 66:Although the village where the inn is located is very quaint, it is a bit far to walk to Bourton, so you really need a car. The last bus from Bourton is at 5:30pm, so you will need a taxi back if you do a late walk from the inn to Bourton's village centre. The ceiling height of the rooms and the corridors of the b&b are very restrictive, so you might have problems if you are a tall person- I knocked my head a few times going up the stairs and I am 5.6ft only... The shower pressure in our room wasn't great. Breaky was average.
Review 67:The staff was nice, always trying to do their best to help us. The inn is very charming and located in a quaint village, it is an authentic place. The pub in itself and the food was also nice. Some rooms are big and nicely done, we got the cheaper ones though, which were on the small side but still comfortable and nicely decorated.
Review 68:As an older person with mobility issues, the stairs were difficult to manage and one hand rail pulled away from the bricks when used. Also very wobbly floors!
Review 69:A hotel full of character in a lovely village.
Review 70:Dead flowers near reception when we arrived and day after. Only cold water for shower twice but remedied once it was mentioned to staff.Couldn't make black tea in the room as water so hard.Should have made it with the bottled water provided!!!!No bath!!!!
Review 71:Overall atmosphere.
Review 72:The only tiny niggle we had was the bed was a bit short for my husband who is quite tall.
Review 73:Location was brilliant for us as our son was playing cricket 100yds away, food was delicious, it was difficult to decide what to have! Quirky historic building.
Review 74:The room was very pokey and disappointing. The restaurant was supposed to be good, but the cauliflower soup was tasteless and needed a lot of seasoning. The steak was over priced for a very average meal.
Review 75:Having a six day stay it was disappointing that the dinner menus did not change, we ate out one night just to get a change of food.
Review 76:Very good and large room, Windrush suite. Very friendly staff.
Review 77:No hot water in the bathroom sink. Broken window catch - had to hold window steady using string. Very small room for a "double". Would not recommend the evening meal menu at all.
Review 78:Location
Review 79:What a great place to stay. We booked a queen room with garden view and we were in a lovely little cottage style room. Restaurant on location had excellent food.
Review 80:For the luxury accommodation one would expect better quality of beds. I would personally prefer a harder mattress with plain white good cotton bed linen not synthetic materials. The time for breakfast between 8.30 and 9.30 means one will have to eat to the sound of cleaning the tables if one is late. This is definitely not luxury.
Review 81:Interesting property with character. Great to have a pub as part of the inn as the hotel is in the middle of the Cotswold rural area. Helpful staff. We stayed in one of the Garden suites where the rooms are big and newly equipped. Very quiet at night as one cannot hear any traffic (road or air).
Review 82:Facilities were first rate and staff friendly. We stayed in a building detached from the hotel and only heard lovely birdsong. Room was comfortable and food tasty. Can't think of any negatives.
Review 83:Stayed in the Stable room 11, I personally think the nets and carpet should go, and be replaced by a blind and wooden floor. We are non smokers so couldn't open the window as people were smoking out there.
Review 84:Central location
Review 85:Poor controls over smoking in the garden. Smokers are in the minority, so why provide them with the whole of the outdoor areas? Keep it to a small designated area, so non-smokers aren't affected.
Review 86:Lovely location, with pleasant, friendly staff and great food.
Review 87:Very minor niggle, no soap in bathroom when we arrived.
Review 88:Atmospheric pub restaurant in lovely location. Geat base for exploring the Cotswolds. Very comfortable room. Very good food on the whole. Very friendly helpful staff. Dinner - one steak had to be sent back as it was very tough, but no argument and replacement or refund offered immediately. (The other steak was perfect). Rest of the food was really good.
Review 89:No bad experiences at all, had a wonderful stay. just remember this is picturesque, characterful, pub-based B&B accommodation, not a 5* international hotel chain, so don't expect a range of leisure activities on site. Our room was small, but had everything we needed for our three days.
Review 90:Situated in an idyllic rural village, away from the "Madding Crowds", but close enough to dip in and out. Superb breakfasts and dinners. The emphasis is on quality local produce rather than volume. Good choice of food and drinks. Cannot praise the staff enough. Landlord nowhere to be seen, but everything ran seamlessly and smoothly. Accommodated my food allergies without a fuss. Will definitely stay there again.
Review 91:We have slept in more comfortable beds before and it was 2 single beds pushed together. The beer garden looked a bit tired and in need of some TLC. But we still really enjoyed our stay.
Review 92:Food (especially breakfast) & service during our stay was excellent.
Review 93:Absoloutely the best experience. Friendly staff who can't do enough for you. Food is delicious, the cooked breakfasts are fabulous. Amazingly pet friendly. Highly recommended for sure.
Review 94:I did not like our room. It was very basic and hot, even with the window open. The noise from below was horrific and went on until 11.30pm. The traffic noise was also unacceptable. Not a good experience. It was a shame because your place was highly recommended!
Review 95:i liked the restaurant and the food and the old world charm of that area.
Review 96:The room we had was quaint and beautifully restored. Location of Inn is set in a beautiful location away from hustle and bustle of more touristy areas. It had a friendly and fun staff, great food, fun pub, and a real authentic feel. Highlight of our trip!
Review 97:We had The Burford Suite which was a lovely room but very warm. We wanted the windows open but couldn't as people were sitting under the windows smoking and their smoke was drifting up into our room.
Review 98:Lovely clean room. Nice food. Nice people. Inn was olde worlde and very friendly.
Review 99:Wi if not great in our room...
Review 100:Beautifully restored rooms. Small bathroom with lovely toiletries and large bath towels. Staff very attentive even with a pub to run. Very quiet, serene location. Great breakfast buffet and/or cooked breakfast to order. Love this Cotswold Inn!
Review 101:Bookings .com advertised a room on the ground floor as being the only room available. We booked with my wife due to have a knee replacement. We were allocated a room in the eaves of the Inn with multiple steep staircases.
Review 102:Within the Inn's control, everything was excellent.
Review 103:Our room was quite noisy the first night as it opened onto the smokers area for the pub.
Review 104:The food was really first class and the shower was the best we have ever experienced.
Review 105:The Windrush Suite was an absolutely superb accomodation - probably one of the best hotels rooms I have ever stayed in. The jacuzzi bath complete with cloured lights was out of this world! All in all, an absolutely perfect venue for a short break in The Cotswolds which I would very highly recommend.
Review 106:Attitude of bar person when explaining only dinner time slot available was 8.45pm.....having ordered the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, my partner found something resembling a stone in a mouthful taken....when the waitress was told she took this item to the chef and the response was that it was a date stone...What the hell is a date stone doing in a sticky toffee pudding?..if that is part of the recipe shouldn't the date be de-stoned?...this was, afterall, a birthday meal!! Tepid scrambled egg for breakfast with no customer care from waitress when mentioned!
Review 107:Lovely room at bottom of garden (Jamima) very private and comfortable.
Review 108:We stayed in the stables, and smokers were outside talking away until late at night when we were in bed trying to go to sleep, but, it is a pub and that is something you should expect, but annoying all the same. Interpretation of how meat is cooked. I had Lamb on the first night, asked for it medium and that was to my mind cooked about right. The following night, I asked for Medium rib eye, and it was bordering on rare. Still lovely, but not what I asked for.
Review 109:Everything really, location, friendliness of the staff and other visitors, food, drink. it was all good. Comfortable room, although somewhat on the small side.
Review 110:There was some confusion over the roles of the restuarant staff - not everyone could take orders which was slightly strange.
Review 111:the accommodation and food were brilliant.
Review 112:Only issue was the aroma of food cooking in the room we stayed in. Not noticeable on the first night but was the next morning and evening wet happy with the property
Review 113:The location, room, food and staff they also cater for dogs although we did not take our dog we wanted the flexibility which many hotels do not provide for
Review 114:The hotel had a strong smell of cooking throughout. Most of the staff were lovely, just one who didn't tick the boxes regarding customer service. She needed to shadow Katy for a while. Food was quite pricey and service slow - took about 20 minutes to take away our finished plates, the waitress said she would bring the dessert menu, then forgot.
Review 115:Stayed in the Rissington Suite which was nice and spacious. At the back of the hotel, so reasonably quiet. The food was nicely presented. We would like to single out Katy for her great customer service.
Review 116:It was all fine - no complaints at all!
Review 117:The staff were lovely - very friendly and welcoming yet quiet and professional. The room was delightful, and the food was exceptionally good - we ate there each morning and each evening. Thanks all for making our stay such a treat.
Review 118:We had no problems at all during our stay but some may find a few of the rooms difficult to access due to low headroom and narrow twisty stairs.
Review 119:Fantastic hotel, staff were very polite and helpful. Situated in a really quiet village so had no issues with disturbed sleep.
Review 120:Excellent food , dog friendly, we had the Rissington Suite which was very comfortable ! More space for the dogs . Good lacation just a few minutes from Bourton on the water. Would definitely stay again .
Review 121:The food was amazing and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room wasn't the biggest, but it had character and felt warm and welcoming. It was also so peaceful and the toiletries and biscuits were good quality. Also I don't drink hot drinks and it is rare to stay somewhere that actually provides bottled water in the room. Little touches like that make a big difference. My husband and I would definitely stay there again,
Review 122:I would have not had to work so I could enjoy the breakfast- it was served a little too late for me
Review 123:The bed was soo comfy and the staff made you feel at home the minute you entered through the door.
Review 124:The whole 2 day stay was great. Bathroom very well stocked with things not normally supplied in bigger hotels. Just a lovely place to stay. Will definitely be back.
Review 125:Cant really fault anything. My only negative would be that the starters at dinner are a little expensive for what you get. I had a sardine starter which had to be replaced by mackerel. One very small fillet on toast = £7 is a little steep for a fish that cost a few pence. Other than that the food was excellent; steak was one of best I have had in a long time. Maybe I will just skip starter next time
Review 126:Lovely room (even with sloping floor). Friendly staff and lovely food. We will return and have already recommended The Lamb to friends and family
Review 127:One of the junior serving staff was somewhat surly and lacked attention to detail, such as bringing our main course at breakfast and not removing our empty cereal dishes and yoghurt cartons.
Review 128:The food and real ale served by generally friendly staff, who made us feel welcome. Although the bedrooms were rather tired and need renovation, the general ambience in the bar and restaurant was very pleasing in true English pub style. The bed was rather small but very comfortable.
