Reviews for Bossiney House Hotel
Review 1:Not ideal for business users as the wifi signal is poor in the bedrooms. I have stayed a number of times in different rooms and it's the same everywhere.
Review 2:Staff are really helpful and attentive. The food is good and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Good location for my business requirement and I would also be happy to stay here for a holiday.
Review 3:The bathroom was too small, the shower drainage was too close to the curtain which creates overflow in the bathroom. The restaurant was not able to accommodate us for dinner on our second night. Fully booked. we had to walk to town.
Review 4:The staffs were friendly.and helpful. We were able to request a water view before arrival. The location is only 10minutes walk to the city center.
Review 5:Unfortunately, we had bad weather, which is not uncommon in North Cornwall in summer.
Review 6:Michael and Mary treat everyone as part of the family, and we made some good friends there. Close to Port Isaac and Boscastle, both lovely little fishing villages.
Review 7:Unfortunately we were woken and kept awake by a person in the next room snoring. This happened on most of the nights we stayed. We felt the walls must be very thin, for us to hear noises such as this, and perhaps it would be a good idea to do some sound-proofing to these walls so that this problem is eliminated.
Review 8:The hotel was fairly near the coastal path which is what we wanted. The staff were pleasant and the food was good although the sausages at breakfast were a little 'cremated'.
Review 9:Duvets were much too thick for the weather, not a great deal of room to store clothes in the room.
Review 10:Good location near to coastal path and Tintagel town centre.
Review 11:Hospitality excellent. Hearty breakfast with lots of variety. Very clean and comfortable. Very welcoming and homely atmosphere and staff very accommodating.
Review 12:Shower was very small, as was the sink - the bathroom wasn`t quite big enough.
Review 13:Location was fantastic! Lots of parking available. We liked the buffet style breakfast counter and the food was good. The room was lovely and light, and the bed superbly comfortable. Free wifi!
Review 14:Not to keen on the very large dog that greeted us and the fact he roamed around the hotel and lying on the leather couch!! Just a bit off putting
Review 15:Lovely friendly hotel, good location
Review 16:Brown bathroom suite - yuk! In need of decorating - although some might like if! Dog in your face upon arrival although not dangerous - just very tall and I'm very short lol Over priced for condition of interior decoration! Bar area definitely needs better furniture!
Review 17:Good location Delicious food in the restaurant Lovely garden out the back - could do with more furniture though! Large room Nice staff
Review 18:The breakfasts were of the serve yourself variety and on two occasions the plates weren't hot and the food by virtue of being kept hot tended to be rather dry. There was a slight misunderstanding on our first night regarding ice or no ice in one of our drinks and when asked very nicely if he could just take the ice out Mike the owner was very brusque and made a bit of a performance about it and then left the drink on the bar to be collected by my husband, which we both thought was a bit petty. He then managed not to speak to us the entire evening.
Review 19:The girls in the restaurant were very pleasant indeed and made our stay very welcome. The one evening meal we had was extremely good.
Review 20:No bad experiences
Review 21:Great room for family with one child. Separate child bedroom attached with own TV. Very friendly staff and owners. Great views of across the fields to the sea with excellent sunsets.
Review 22:Wi-fi not connecting but no big issue for us.
Review 23:Lovely location beautiful gardens v comfy bed v friendly staff and lovely breakfast... And the dog is v sweet!
Review 24:Saniflow system in place in ensuite with noisy pump. Unpleasant odour from shower drain/toilet at certain times. Thin walls between bedrooms. Able to hear music from bar in room each evening after 10pm. Owner banged on door at 10.20pm one evening basically telling us to turn ensuite extractor fan off due to another guest complaining that they couldn't sleep due to it's noise! (Only a low hum could be heard from neighbouring room's fan by us!) Never, ever been told not to use room facilities in any other hotel before...shocked to say the least! On checking out told owner how disgusted we were...suggested that he shouldn't install certain facilities in the rooms unless guests were allowed to use them, that he should install better sound proofing in rooms, and that he should have pacified complaining guest instead of banging on our door after 10pm, twice, whilst we were getting ready for bed! He said he had to bang twice as there was no answer the first time! My mother and I were shocked that someone was at our door especially at that time, and neither of us was decent after first knock due to getting ready for bed! He said it was his duty to follow-up any complaints from guests so as not to upset them...well he upset my mother and I! I pointed out to him the length of our stay and the money we were spending in his hotel (not cheap), and that maybe he should consider that next time instead of listening to a ridiculous complaint made by a guest staying perhaps for only one night. I pointed out to him that any guest should expect a certain amount of noise when staying in a hotel/B & B, and if they didn't like it maybe they should travel with earplugs! We told him that my mother and I could have complained about noise from the bar and loud guests next door to us particularly on our last night, but we just got on with it, to which he agreed.
Review 25:Friendly and helpful breakfast staff who made suggestions of places to visit and advised us on the weather each day. They were on the ball with looking after each guest. Beautiful hotel dog that greeted you on entering and leaving premises, though perhaps not for everyone. He was a real character and we looked forward to seeing him each day, and playing in the hotel grounds. Owner helped to carry bags to room on arrival, and was very helpful and friendly, in fact he couldn't do enough. My mother and I thought the hot breakfast menu available at the start of our stay was varied and a lovely idea. Good to have a bar on premises and an evening menu available. We enjoyed the carvery on the Wednesday evening which was followed by some very good desserts. Our room had a lovely view of the sea, with a huge window to make the most of this. The hotel was set in beautiful grounds with ample parking and a 10 minute walk from Tintagel.
Review 26:cold plates for a hot breakfast not very good that was the only fault i could find to comment on at this hotel the owners are very good hosts
Review 27:the owners were very nice and made my stay very please pleasant
Review 28:Room size was ok for family room but the bathroom was very small and below standard. In addition the room was quite noisy with some ventilation running and in the morning the music from the breakfast room directly below. The pool building was - admittedly - old and would need a makeover.
Review 29:Very friendly staff and wonderful seaview. We enjoyed the stay and using the pool and sauna.
Review 30:It's a lovely and very comfortable hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the owner gave us some great tips for exploring the breathtaking surrounding countryside. Thank you, Bossiney House Hotel!
Review 31:The room was on the small side and the internet signal was weak.
Review 32:The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good and the staff very helpful. We particulary enjoyed going down the pathway right next to the hotel to get to the coast. That was brilliant.
Review 33:Fabulous staff who took an interest in us as people and offered local knowledge tips of places to go or park. The atmosphere was relaxed (a real family feel) but very professional. The breakfast was wonderful providing us with a choice of fresh fruit as well as cereals, yoghurts, dried fruit, cooked English, croissant, toast, jams, coffee, tea. Therefore, you could be as healthy as you wanted to be. Everything was cooked beautifully. Wonderful bed!
Review 34:Room smelled unventilated. Spiderwebs in the corners.Very small cupboard to hang clothes. We put towels on the floor to get fresh towels. They put the dirty towels again to the towel rack.
Review 35:Warm Welcome from the staff. Twin - Room as ordered. Breakfast was good. Dinner in Restaurant also good quality.
Review 36:We had the 'family room' and while it was small it did accommodate us nicely. However the bathroom was completely inadequate for a family of 4. The room was in the roof lining of the building. The bathroom had a sloping ceiling over the bath so my husband couldn't even stand up in it. Which really didn't matter as there was no shower any way, just one of those hand held shower heads. So for the price I thought it a bit steep for the woeful bathroom. I'm sure the other rooms were better.
Review 37:Great location for exploring Cornwall. Friendly staff and good restaurant.
Review 38:Anything ! Fantastic
Review 39:Excellent place, Nice hotel, nice food. I really suggest everybody to sleep over here. Fantastic the manigolf in front of the hotel !
Review 40:Only that I couldn't get wifi in the room. I use the Internet probably more than I should for planning, catching up and audio books when travelling alone, this is a minor point though and massively outweighed by the benefits of the hotel.
Review 41:Out of the four hotels I stayed in on my trip around the SW coastal path this was the best. The staff and dog are very friendly and welcoming. The house is brilliantly located and spacious.
Review 42:Very nice property, location, rooms with personality, clean and grounds well manicured. Dining was eligant, dinner freshly prepared and delicious. Michael made us feel welcomed, comfortable, hospitable and shared good conversation. Thank you
Review 43:Little touches lacking room small and attention to detail missing, bed uncomfortable, shower poor pressure although decorated nicely, if room next door used bathroom fan was very loud edpecially at 6 am! Hotel just not quite there although obviously trying to make more modern needs a bit more attention has potential to be better
Review 44:Staff especially breakfast ladies were do friendly and helpful! They worked so hard and made our stay pleasant all positives we're due to staff
Review 45:Wifi patchy. Not really available in room.
Review 46:Perfect location. Sea view from room. Lovely coastal walk. Used it as a base to explore the area. Had a great weekend.
Review 47:Not much water pressure in the shower
Review 48:Comfy bed, fluffy white towels, great food in the restaurant. Friendly staff and nice bar area looking out onto the garden and se beyond
Review 49:Only odd thing was the washbasin was in the room, next to the window, not in the en-suite as you would expect.
Review 50:Would be good for walking, it's near the coastal path, and close to Tintagel. All the staff were most welcoming, including the dog!
Review 51:Had to stay in Tintagle on business and was lucky enough to choose this hotel. A lovely friendly couple ran the place and as a added bonus I visited Bossiney Cove which has got to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
Review 52:The location and facilities were excellent but the staff and management were really the best. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. We'd thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Review 53:The greeting from the massive dog, which is the hotel-pet was frightening at first but after getting to know him better the dog was lovely.
Review 54:We especially liked the VERY nice staff. Great stay.
Review 55:No bath and wash stand in bedroom rather than shower area.
Review 56:Very nice room with big bay window looking out over the sea. Friendly and welcoming staff. Good food. Comfy bed.
Review 57:Bathroom facilities in room 9 very poor no bigger than an airing cupboard and cobwebs everywhere! Poor service, very slow, not very attentive. Breakfast very average.
Review 58:Room a little small. Windows not double glazed so when weather was stormy it was quite noisy. Bathroom a little small and water pressure in shower quite low.
Review 59:Views and breakfast. Excellent buffet meal. Comfortable bed. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Good walking location
Review 60:The owners and staff were extremely friendly, helpful and informative. They gave us a very warm welcome, making our stay most enjoyable from the moment we stepped inside the door to the moment we left.
Review 61:Not really a bad point but wi-fi was a little patchy at times but generally adequate.
Review 62:Excellent friendly staff, clean comfortable room with great views
Review 63:our room had a very small shower/toilet room. room too small for three but thats what we chose good view
Review 64:very good meals and breakfast our host and hostess very nice also all staff not too far to sights
Review 65:The hotel and location are lovely. Easy to get to any attraction in Cornwall. Mike and Mary are terrific hosts and went far beyond the call of duty to make us comfortable. The food in the restaurant is worth staying for.
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Staff so friendly, helpful and attentive. Location excellent for Tintagel and coastal path/walks Superb breakfast and mouth watering dinners in their on site restaurant
Review 68:This is a truly special hotel. It has retained its character. Every room is different. The beds are very comfortable. The garden and views to the sea are lovely. It is situated 5 minutes walk from the coastal path, so perfect for walking. The breakfast was particularly generous and varied. The staff are friendly, attentive and full of great advice about places to visit and local walks. We had a really special stay and would love to return.
Review 69:The bathroom was in reality a cupboard with a shower in it and a further cupboard housing the toilet. We had been informed that the bathroom was not ensuite which was very thoughtful but we had not expected it to be as small as it was.
Review 70:The hotel was warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was magnificent.
Review 71:The owners and staff! Our room was warm, comfortable and had all we needed. Facilities were good, breakfast excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. Altogether, a great experience.
Review 72:Bed was very hot, but better to be hot than cold, also odd mark on white pillow cases
Review 73:very comfortable, friendly and welcoming, quite, would stay here again
Review 74:No shower, only attachment which didn't work. Bedroom furniture dated. Tea making facilities very stingy with nothing for children. Bedroom drafty, but there is a storage heater. Swimming pool area needs good clean, tiles coming off wall in shower room. Dog muck hadn't been cleared from garden. Breakfast food was disappointing. Food precooked so bacon and poached eggs hard.
Review 75:Bed comfortable There is a Bath Children have a separate bedroom Very close to coast path and lovely beach Walking distance to Tintagel Good parking Good variety at Breakfast Lovely breakfast room with sea view
Review 76:Nothing to dislike
Review 77:We were only there for a few nights but the whole stay was very enjoyable, we were made to feel very welcome and will most certainly return.
Review 78:Easy walking to Tintagel Castle ruins and Tintagel itself. Close to lovely little pubs where you can sit by a fire and drink Cornish Mead. Bossiney house also has a fine restaurant.
Review 79:My husband and I were given a family suite which consisted of a bedroom with a king size, a room with a single (with a window seat) and a shower room. It was comfortable warm and the linen was pristine. Our breakfast was delicious, fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries etc and a full English. Unfortunately we did not have time to stay for the Sunday Lunch. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel and will certainly return.
Review 80:Hotel needs a bit of maintenance work in places.
Review 81:Large, clean and comfortable rooms with nice view to sea. Excellent food. Friendly and helpful staff. Two gorgeous and enormous Scottish Deer hounds greeted us but didn't get in the way at all. Nice little swimming pool.
Review 82:The fact that we had only booked in for a one-night stay. We would certainly choose to stay there again if we were in the area.
Review 83:We liked everything about Bossiney House. It is in a pleasant location not too far from Tintagel but at the same time not too close, and it has first class facilities! The proprietors and staff are exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful, and the two hotel dogs are delightful. Our evening meal was excellent and very good value for money. Our bedroom was possibly a little small, but, as compensation, the bar and and other public rooms are very comfortable.
Review 84:The mattress on the bed was very noisy whenever we moved, it was very springy like a like trampoline. We checked the mattress and base in the next morning and discovered that they were both pretty old. We did not sleep at all well. The shower cubicle needs regular bleaching to get rid of the mould. We had to wedge a folded brochure in the window to prevent it rattling in the wind. We have stayed in way better for less.
Review 85:The view from the room was lovely (can't recall number but above the bar). Mike and Mary made us very welcome, as did the ladies in the dining room at breakfast, which was excellent. Located in a top spot.
Review 86:Bed had no headboard, and no chair to sit on so we had to sit on the bed to watch tv or lay down, ensuite was clean but very tiny with the wash basin not much bigger than a pudding bowl, nowhere to put soap etc.Have stayed in much nicer places for less money too.
Review 87:Food was good and very nicely set out Our room was pleasant,
Review 88:They offer wifi in rooms but not all rooms have it. But staff was very helpful and changed my room so I could work.
Review 89:A bit dated but full of character. Stunning sea views. Good restaurant.
Review 90:Some of the decor, fixtures and fittings were a bit tired and dated.
Review 91:The views were very nice and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Local coastal walks are well within reach.
Review 92:Advertised as a double room with countryside or sea view we had a tree blocking any kind of view outside our window. Tab was incorrect so had to check at end of stay. Whole place felt a bit dated and in need of modernizing. Too much furniture in room felt really crammed unnecessarily. Tea at breakfast taste of soap.
Review 93:Staff were very approachable. Staff were very helpful in advising us on good walks.
Review 94:We liked everything about the stay, from the owners and their visions and thoughts to the staff with their honest opinions , all their friendlyness towards us, and the food what can I say, it was brilliant . Didn't need to go out the door, 2nd to none
Review 95:Shower was too small.
Review 96:Beds were very comfortable and the situation of hotel was good. The food was excellent and we would stay again. If you don't like dogs then this would not suit you.
Review 97:Greeted by large dogs who seemed to be the owners main love in life. The room was rather shabby and in need of decoration and updating. The shower did not even have a soapdish so you had to grovel on the floor for the soap. The towels were small and well worn. The bed was soft, creaky and the headboard was broken.
Review 98:Breakfast was excellent and the sheets were very clean. Breakfast staff were lovely.
Review 99:Little bit over priced! The shower in our room was very old and not powerful. However we were moved half way through our stay into a room with a bath and better shower. Swimming pool was very cold and swimming pool house could do with updating.
Review 100:Very clean hotel with nice rooms and reception areas! Fantastic view! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location for exploring surrounding towns!
Review 101:The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. We arrived at the hotel late after a long day of walking and were greeted with an extremely warm welcome. The food in the restaurant is exquisite and very reasonably priced. The rooms were clean, modern and kept to a high standard. The whole ambience of the place is wonderful. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough!
Review 102:Windows rattled unless locked shut. Not good on a hot evening. Not all sockets worked and took a process of elimination to discover which one would allow the kettle to boil. The DVD on the TV wouldn't read any of the DVDs provided for residents! The bacon at breakfast was tougher than the sole of a leather boot! We never ever found the swimming pool despite being there 2 days! There was a serious lack of attention to detail eg working light bulbs in bathroom, some information on mealtimes, checkout, location of swimming pool!, what to do in an emergency, how to get assistance if stuff not working (sockets, light bulbs, DVD players, windows!).
Review 103:The location for walkers is excellent. The dogs were very friendly.
Review 104:Very dated, small drab room, ensuite in poor condition. There were 2 large dogs roaming the hotel - stealing food off diners plates! They were perfectly friendly but would put some people off - and there is a bit of a doggy smell. Not good value for money as the room and its facilites were well below standard. Only one powerpoint in room. Tintagel is pretty awful - even the owner admitted this.
Review 105:Good breakfast served buffet style, continually being topped up with freshly cooked food. Good choice of fruits etc. too. WiFi reasonably good in room and average in the bar. Plentiful parking to the front of the hotel.
Review 106:We booked for 7.30pm for dinner but we weren't seated until 8.30pm. The restaurant is very popular. The standard of the food made up for it. The owner did tell us on arrival that they had overbooked for the restaurant that evening but didn't ask us if we would consider changing the time of our booking, which we would have. We therefore assumed that our 7.30pm booking was ok.
Review 107:The staff were friendly and the hotel was very pleasant. There is quite a laid back atmosphere. The food was excellent. It was " thrifty Thursday" in the restaurant when we stayed and we had a 3 course meal for under £15. Every course was delicious and very good value. Self serve breakfast also delicious. Restaurant very nice and a lot of effort put in to making it look very cosy. Beautiful fresh cut flowers on every table. We had 2 double rooms. Both clean and comfortable. Ours was a little tired looking but perfectly adequate. Owners have 2 very friendly deerhounds who roam around, which I liked. Quick and easy walk into Tintagel. Would stay here again.
Review 108:Shower and bathroom could do with some modernising although perfectly clean and adequate.
Review 109:The view from our room was stunning and the bed so comfortable with lovely fresh white linen. Breakfast was presented beautifully with an excellent array of fruit etc.
Review 110:The only thing I would suggest is that the staff soak their shower heads in some descaler once in a while as pressure is a bit low.
Review 111:Very relaxed atmosphere which was lovely, and the staff were brilliant. I do not understand any of the poor reviews, I guess you can't please everyone, especially picky people. Location was good as it was nice to have a short walk into town. Would recommend if you appreciate a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
Review 112:Twin room a bit on the Cozy side it wouldn't pay to be two large people. Poor wi fi signal. Complimentary coffee was horrible, or perhaps the milk but tasted bad. Decor bit dated and old fashioned in my room. Curtains bit thin didn't keep daylight out .
Review 113:The efficiency of the manager who went out of his way to jiggle our bookings around, more than once! The breakfast was excellent value for money. Views splendid and lovely surroundings. noticed you can bring dogs by arrangement. Lovely spacious gardens with sea views. Loads of parking. Swimming pool.
Review 114:Be aware if you have the family room and have cardiac/respiratory issues, there are lots of stairs. The shower is a narrow tub with hose and you have to sit, difficult if you are tall or wide. Very unfriendly lady/?owner upon arrival, bad day?
Review 115:Very clean and beds were comfortable. Tea and cookies in room. Separate loft area for sleeping our kids loved. Onsite restaurant for dining. Great variety of food for breakfast, restaurant staff nice and efficient. Very Friendly gentlman/?owner with suggestions for local things to do.
Review 116:Very acommodating staff, rooms were excellent quality, very good facilities in the hotel (bar, lounge, swimming pool) and the breakfast was delicious and offered a great selection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Review 117:Toilet/shower room a little small with wash basin in the room. Swimming pool water was cloudy,
Review 118:Breakfast was excellent, staff very friendly, rooms clean.
Review 119:The staff are friendly and efficient. The two owners will stay up in the bar and discuss any subject you can think of. We put the world to rights on several nights.
Review 120:Nowhere to put clothes apart from wardrobes. We would have liked a couple of stools or chairs.
Review 121:Friendliness of owners and staff. Excellent breakfast. Beautiful dogs. Comfortable beds.
Review 122:Unfortunately room wasn't very big,and bathroom and shower were small. But apart from that excellent hotel, really enjoyed our stay.
Review 123:Fantastic views and location- with beautiful walks to Tintagel and beaches. Only short stay so didn't get time to enjoy the pool. Great views from our room with a sea view. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in - in a hotel! Good food from evening restaurant. Lovely dogs - very friendly deerhounds!
Review 124:I had a couple stomping and arguing/shouting directly above me till late at night and was unable to go to sleep, the hotel was not at fault here. One rude member of staff, obviously feeling the pressure of the Sunday lunches, I had kindly asked if there was any room for 1, for dinner and that I was staying all evening at the hotel (no time pressure) to be told well we're not!!! I'm in the service industry myself and I'm sympathetic on how hard catering can be yet would not allow my customers to be aware of this.
Review 125:Room was clean with facilities. Well positioned for walking, good home cooked food.
Review 126:Breakfast was hit and miss. I had eggs but had to wait fro toast. Had bacon, but the black pudding was never replenished. Breakfast as a buffet just didn't work because the food was
Review 127:The hotel had a great location, not far from Tintagel. the restaurant was nice and the staff were warm and friendly.
Review 128:Wi-fi was only available in the lobby. In this day and age, its possible to cheaply provide a good signal everywhere, stone walls or not, if you care to. The dinner quality of the food at the on-site restaurant was a disappointment for the price (breakfasts were good). I didn't like having to lift my suitcases over a sleeping dog to get to my room.
Review 129:The location was excellent: easy walking distance to everything in Tintagel and the coast path. It was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 130:people were so friendly the hotel in a nice area
Review 131:for the price it was not value poor shower room every time some one flushed the toilets you could hear them to dark inside toilet area extractor fan to noisy
Review 132:The dogs are large but friendly and gentle. ..so don't worry about them
Review 133:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at bossiness house. Mike, Mary and all the staff were a delight and so helpful with the local knowledge . All Meals were delicious.
