Reviews for Craiglynne Hotel

Review 1:We had a few teething problems with our deluxe room after a 6 hour drive. Staff tried to resolve our issues but eventually had to change rooms. Throughout this period of an hour the management failed to come and talk with us to resolve our concerns,

Review 2:Great location, very friendly and willing staff. We stopped for the hogmanay 3 day package and had a fantastic time.

Review 3:Breakfast too late for workers Heating in the room was on full blast Credit card fee charged but not advised in advance at time of booking, or not made clear.

Review 4:Location and price

Review 5:Food absolutely terrible and told no choice from menu at dinner - just list of food given. Waiter could not speak English. Breakfast delays terrible. Room below average

Review 6:Location and outside view of hotel nice

Review 7:The beds were to soft, & no phone signal!

Review 8:Staff were really helpful and profecinal from arrival till departure, the standard of food was excellent!

Review 9:Being asked to book a time for dinner at breakfast time and a time for breakfast the previous day

Review 10:Convenient location for our visits to the whisky distilleries

Review 11:Being a very old beautiful building I could have accepted if the decorwas tired but that was not the case. The bed was dirty anduncomfortable and the bedfing was so okd it was durt ingrained. Nocentral heating and the room was freezing! The staff at breakfast wereextremely rude and not at all pleased that I retuned my foid to becooked the way I had requested, so much so it was slammed in front ofme when returned. We left immediately after breakfast rather thanenjoying the day. Would never recommend or return and certainly notwhat I expected from my homeland.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Although the food was good there was no children's menu.

Review 14:Friendly efficient staff. Large, clean and comfortable room. We all had a good nights sleep!

Review 15:Parking for such a large hotel was poor. As a single traveller I felt the room was extremely small, the shower was not clean.

Review 16:Location of hotel was good.

Review 17:Room was quite small and dated. Bathroom was tiny and the hand basin was in the bedroom, not the bathroom.

Review 18:Beautiful building. Well stocked bar and lovely restaurant on site.

Review 19:Didn't have towels in my room when I arrived. I had to ask at the front desk for them, they were delivered some time later.

Review 20:Great location at the edge of town.

Review 21:The way the coach parties took all the food on the central table at breakfast and to be told there was nothing left!

Review 22:The charming service provided by the red headed receptionist.

Review 23:Parking area but you can live with it

Review 24:Old style hotel and could do with a bit more upgrade but your in the heart of the Cairngorms and I enjoyed our stay for our wedding anniversary in the Glenfarclas room. Staff were great and put in some hours !!!

Review 25:The floorboards were incredibly creaky to the point of annoying. Our room was to the back of hotel with views of scaffolding on one side and a pigeon infested courtyard on the other.

Review 26:Relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful location. Food was good

Review 27:The shower control was very stiff to turn on and then the water would not turn off - shower is in need of upgrading.

Review 28:Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 29:Waited at reception on two occasions much longer than I'd expect. One of the times waiting to pick up my keys the receptionist was taking a booking, understand they were busy, but other staff just walked into reception and out again. In the end stopped one person who then gave me my keys. A little bit of coaching to staff to ask if they could help when someone is waiting would improve the experience. (Feedback to management).

Review 30:Restaurant and bar staff very friendly and efficient. Food good and value for money.

Review 31:The hotel probably does need updating in places. But it's clean and tidy and it's an old building so don't expect a modern hotel.

Review 32:Staff were fabulous. Very helpful and did everything we asked for. Gentleman behind bar and at breakfast were fabulous! So friendly. Location was perfect for us, easy parking and close to shops if needed.

Review 33:The poor excuse for an ensuite The food was awful Staff were unfriendly Large coach parties and canteen style View of flat roof from bedroom

Review 34:The outside of the hotel

Review 35:Door fell off shower, TV instructions in German, poor TV reception. Cooked breakfast dreadful. Far too expensive for what it was.

Review 36:Fruit in room, staff very friendly

Review 37:Neighbours above seemed to move furniture until 1.30 am Breakfast was very poor bacon was burnt egg tasteless and when asked cold toast was replaced with more cold toast by very uninterested waiters.

Review 38:Reception staff, lounge, bar, ensuite, evening meal (although choice was limited)

Review 39:I booked my breakfast for 07:30 because I needed to leave by 08:00. By 07:50 the waiter hadn't taken my order and was still laying tables. I left without breakfast. When I tried to pay my bill I discovered that the reception didn't open until 08:00. I had to leave without paying. They had already taken a pre-auth of my credit card.

Review 40:Few plugs, wifii only in communal area. We missed vegetables from the breakfast.

Review 41:We liked the whole outlook of the hotel, it was warm and friendly. Close by we could find a nice lake with ducks, had a nice walk in the forest and the town center was also very close by walk. By car we had easy acces to each directions.

Review 42:Majority of guests arrive in large buses so best to avoid eating breakfast at the same time. The elevator did not work. Double bed was small for two adults.

Review 43:Location, free parking, nice town, near beautiful nature

Review 44:Service a little sketchy at times. Room quite cold, even coming up to Summer. Tea/coffee facilities in room not replenished (cup replaced but tea bag left in tea pot from previous morning)

Review 45:Excellent food

Review 46:The lift was out of action for the whole five day stay - we were on the second floor. One morning at breakfast they were understaffed and the service was poor. Some items were not available. We were asked to pay a £2 charge for using a debit card, despite your statement that the amount shown by you is what we had to pay.

Review 47:Very pleasant room with a view. Friendly welcome.

Review 48:Shower cold, just a drip of water Creeping floor boards Water hammer in the waterpipes Room below standard "Scrambled eggs" made from powder and water

Review 49:Staff friendliness Garden Bar Sitting room Parking facilities Location

Review 50:The Reception closed at 8pm. Wifi was very sporadic and difficult toobtain at times (due to area). First bedroom had rusty sections inshower (very small). Second bedroom (they moved us out of twin intodouble) had extremely squeaky floorboards (felt sorry for bedroombeneath us). Bed covers are small so one turn in bed and someone is leftwith no covers!!!!

Review 51:Although the town has several businesses that are closed down we likedthe proximity to the Cairngorms and several of the attractions.

Review 52:Single bed, too small. Shower cubicle neat TV signal poor.

Review 53:Food excellent, limited bar stock. Very comfortable double bed good sized room. Large bath

Review 54:Shower didn't work properly, but had a bath instead! The set menu for dinner was not great even with 4 choices. I would not choose to have the set-menu dinner there again.

Review 55:Located in a lovely setting. The hotel is clean and comfortable.

Review 56:rooms really need a makeover and at the very least towels that aren't frayed!

Review 57:the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful and the breakfast fabulous. overall excellent value for money.

Review 58:The one receptionist who greeted us on arrival. She was not helpful and did not want to leave her phone call.

Review 59:The gardens, the staff apart from one receptionist. The food, everything was fine.

Review 60:The room was quite dark with views onto brick walls. The main bathroom light did not work. More plug points would have been helpful as it was necessary to unplug the television or heater to use the kettle.

Review 61:The hotel room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly.

Review 62:Shower temperature not working and it got too hot for me but not scalding. Had to jump in and out. However I mentioned this when leaving and was assured it would be fixed.

Review 63:Friendly, helpful staff. Couldn't do enough for you.

Review 64:Wifi throughout hotel.

Review 65:Staff were very friendly and really made the stay. The food was great for both breakfast and dinner, and a good drink selection.

Review 66:no wireless signal in 2, No mobile phone service, Very Strong background noise probably from the kitchen in the room 112.

Review 67:very friendly and helpful staff

Review 68:The wi-fi was a bit hit and miss; it cut out a few times. Bar and lounge far too hot. Portion sizes at dinner miniscule.

Review 69:Good facilities, very pleasant and helpful staff. Hotel quiet, without a noisy bar. Excellent desk and tourist information in rooms.

Review 70:Only one room so function intruded on dining ie disco set up while we were still eating main course. Could hear disco from room in evening.

Review 71:Staff very helpful and tried hard though needed basic training of in how to serve.

Review 72:The large rooms could do with two comfortable chairs and not to have to sit on the bed

Review 73:Have stayed several times over the years and you get what you expect, reasonable food, comfort and amenities

Review 74:Breakfast poor, sausage crap! Not even a tattie scone? And requested beans but was told I couldn't have any at this time. Parking limited too!

Review 75:I enjoyed my stay, lovely hotel! Staff nice!

Review 76:The elevator was broken and we had to carry suitcases up the stairs to our room. Our twin room was very small, though quiet and looked out over the front lawns.

Review 77:Hotel located within walking distance of restaurants and shops in village centre. The front desk staff recommended excellent dining choices (Manha Spice, The Craig Bar). Decor a bit dated but comfortable lobby and dining area. Excellent diningroom service and menu choices at breakfast. (September 2014)

Review 78:We were unaware that the majority of their trade was from coach tours. As independent travellers, we took second place to the coach party customers. The chef was not good - eg tinned mushrooms in a glutinous sauce with a skin on top, on soggy 'toast' . . . The beds were poor, with springs clearly felt and hard pillows. None of us slept well.

Review 79:Front of house staff were helpful and friendly, and the location was convenient.

Review 80:Decor in certain areas somewhat dated. Modern central heating system required.

Review 81:Location excellent ,as was helpfulness of staff. Excellent food Rooms were comfortable

Review 82:The bedroom was very small for a twin room. The quality of the mattresses as execrable. We rang reception at 2315hrs but got no response. We complained the next morning after a very bad night. They said that they would put it right, which was of no comfort to us as we were there only one night.

Review 83:The situation, the grounds and the efficiency of the restaurant staff to deal so promptly and pleasantly with so many customers. The bar man (Italian, Spanish?) was a hoot!

Review 84:Food is a bit expensive (bar Fish&Chips £10.something and was the frozen slab stuff). Dining room menu good in parts but too bitty. I would have prefered 'themed' meals:Scottish fish, meat and puddings.

Review 85:Location great for a peaceful break with pleanty of good drives fairly close. Another bonus (one of the 'facilities' (Quiet hotel) that would be on on my hotel wish list-no music;bliss. No Frank Sinatra or,even worse,Beatles music at meals (if you go for a peaceful break that should include the dining rooms too!).

Review 86:It is a large hotel so we should have been prepared for the large numbers of people passing through! Would recommend to other travellers, but would explain this.

Review 87:Position for touring the area. Lovely, hard-working staff. Food good. Bedroom fine.

Review 88:Had to move rooms as the promised WiFi didn't work. Didn't have items on the menu, despite being only partially full. Understaffed, Had to go to the restaraunt to get somebody to serve a drink, and to check out in the morning. Fire alarm going off at 1:00am due to someone burning the toast!! Hotel just looked generally tired. Was really looking forward to it as well from the pics on Booking.com

Review 89:Location, exterior

Review 90:Fire alarms at 7am (twice) Morning call at 6.30am (not asked for). Shower that was ancient and only tepid. Waiting 45 mins for breakfast to come out. Having to ask for clean towels despite being there for 6 nights. Bus parties!

Review 91:Food was excellent

Review 92:ordered ironing board and iron only got iron. To hot in rooms no aircon or fans Orange juice was like drinking water £18.00 for 1 rasher 1 sausage egg

Review 93:The steak was good

Review 94:A bit far to walk into the center of town. We drove. Not a problem if you drink at the hotel.

Review 95:Very nice hotel in the stone style of Grantown. Extensive restaurant menu, a bit pricey. Bar is dead - retirees mostly at least when we were there. Comfortable room.

Review 96:The hotel was obviously understaffed- no fault of them. The bar was not open at lunchtime, drinks expensive! Our last breakfast took 40 minutes to arrive, by that time we lost our appetite- understaffed. Same with the bar at night- staff multi tasking between reception/ restaurant/reception. But still a pleasant stay.

Review 97:The location for touring, good food, comfortable accommodation, friendly staff.

Review 98:The staff were friendly but worked off their feet we had to wait every morning for at least 5 minutes or more to be shown to the breakfast table. It seems that training was at fault rather than the staff themselves who were attentive when they eventually saw you.

Review 99:The position in The Cairngorms was great for getting out and walking, seeing attractions and being central to the beauty of the mountains. The hotel itself was picturesque and had charm.

Review 100:Enjoyed the town,a nice change of shops and staff were pleasant.

Review 101:The food was not good, the hotel room and bathroom was not very clean.

Review 102:The bar waiter was super.

Review 103:Would have been nice if log fire in public bar had been on

Review 104:Staff friendly

Review 105:Lounge and bar Nice position with woodland walks close by Pleasant efficient staff

Review 106:No a la carte menu. Seemed to be geared to high throughput of coach parties

Review 114:Not a good experience for a special occasion

Review 117:The bedrooms were very poor needing updated TV did not work very well

Review 118:Food and staff very good

Review 119:Staff were helpful & entertaining at dinner, joking with customers.

Review 120:Food

Review 122:Great staff and food. Nice location. Rooms clean and tidy

Review 123:Everything

Review 124:Leaving

Review 125:Poor Phone signal

Review 126:Food and location

Review 127:Only slight gripe was cooked breakfast which looked a bit meagre

Review 128:Just an accommodating place to stay

Review 129:The hotel was lovely. In a great position for exploring the town and wider area. The staff couldn't have been friendlier.

Review 130:evening meal of rissto unedable. it certainly wasn't the correct rice, texture like normal boiled rice, too heavy and dry.

Review 131:receptionist helpful

Review 132:The view.

Review 133:Tiny shower room! (A bath would have beenlovely after lots of walking)

Review 134:Lovely front facing bay window in large room

Review 135:Would have preferred bigger buffet selection at breakfast.

Review 136:Location

Review 137:the bed and linen is disgusting

Review 138:good staff nice reception area good value meals
