Reviews for Athol House

Review 1:I can't remember the name of the chap running the place, but he was great. Happy and friendly, cooked a great breakfast too. Stayed in a few places in the area and Athol topped them. Great location to everything the town has to offer.

Review 2:effing seagulls in the morning, but that goes for pretty well any place in South Shields.

Review 3:Central location, and great breakfast. Not luxury though, but very practical.

Review 4:Shared bathrooms but then that's the same in most B&Bs. Just a personal thing.

Review 5:Location, price and breakfast were spot on for 4 guys down for the football and a night out.

Review 6:Have stayed there twice now and would stay again.owner goes out of his way to provide you with all your needs.very attentive.rooms are large and comfy.

Review 7:I didn't like the dust the bed was uncomfortable and noisy noise throughout the night all night couldn't get in touch with staff when i jammed my finger in the door

Review 8:I liked a fridge in the room

Review 9:We knew there were no en-suites but ideally would prefer to have one.

Review 10:Duncan was an excellent host. Welcoming and we had a great breakfast - a la carte !

Review 11:The location was misrepresented on booking.com. It appeared to be in a quiet residential area but was on a busy main road. From outside, the house looked run down with ugly blinds and peeling plaster. The rooms were clean but no ensuite. The beds were very uncomfortable Far too expensive compared with other B&Bs we stayed at.

Review 12:Freshly cooked breakfast.

Review 13:Lack of on suite bathroom albeit good size Attic room with self catering facilities

Review 14:Very friendly.. central location.. Great well priced pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance

Review 15:Bathrooms are down the hall, but I can live with that.

Review 16:The only UK bed and breakfast I've stayed in (excluding divers hostels) where I've been able to get the breakfast.

Review 17:The hotel does not state when booking that bathroom facilities are shared!! None of the rooms are en-suite which had I of known at time of booking I would definately not have booked. There are much better B&B's in the surrounding area providing better quality for money. The beds leave alot to be desired - they have most definately seen better days, I'd go as far as to say the floor would of probably be comfier.

Review 18:Can't fault the staff - more than accommodating, however the poor facilities take away from this. Breakfast was okay.

Review 19:Having to go down the corridor for the toilet but it was very clean

Review 20:Lovely hospitable host. good size rooms with everything you need. even made one of our party a takeaway breakfast so that we could be on the road early

Review 21:This was a great guesthouse in a lovely town 10 mins from a gorgeous beach. Though my room was not ready when I arrived I was immediately shown to a better bigger room. Good breakfast. Very enjoyable stay!

Review 22:No on suite bathroom down a flight of stairs.

Review 23:Excellent value for money just wanted a reasonable B@B ideal location for me for buses and the town centre.

Review 24:I particularly liked the cleanness and the friendly atmosphere. Duncan the owner is lovely with everyone and always has a bit of a laugh and chat with you. He's also a good cook. Nothing was a bother for him. He went out of his way to make everyone welcome. Thanks for a nice stay.

Review 25:Proximity to the town hall can be somewhat irksome once the bell in the clock tower starts chiming from. 6am onwards, but not really a massive problem.

Review 26:Friendly staff, great value for money, decent facilities, good location for access to either South Tyneside College or the town centre itself.

Review 27:I booked in for two nights, my son stayed for free. I payed £70.00 online through booking.com and contacted them in advance about my son, I am not sure why but this changed to £75.00 on the day so was not overly impressed. Wifi was touch and go. The rooms are not en suite bathrooms are shared.

Review 76:Very friendly and helpful Rooms clean and comfortable Breakfast full English very nice

Review 77:For us, being on a busy road was difficult as we live in the Country and are not used to the noise

Review 78:Duncan was friendly and helpful, breakfast good, location - 10 minutes walk from the sea, 5 minutes from masses of restaurants and only a couple of miles from the leisure centre we had come to compete in.

Review 79:As others have commented, the rooms at the front of the house are very noisy (single glazed windows maybe?), as the street has a lot of traffic and the church (with bells) is opposite. Could also do with curtains rather than vertical blinds which didn't block out any light. This was even a problem at night as there was a security light at the back of the house and streetlamps at the front. I did solve this problem with an eye mask though. :-) Have to say, the owner was very nice and more than made up for these small problems.

Review 80:The owner was extremely friendly and helpful and made me feel at home. The breakfasts were excellent, the bathroom facilities, whilst not en-suite, were good. Both rooms I stayed in had a fridge, TV, tea & coffee facilities and a very comfy chair to sit in.
