Reviews for Tricky's Hotel

Review 1:Bit chilly in January in Cornwall!

Review 2:Fantastic staff very helpful. Very clean and tidy; lots of hot water and towels. Travelling on my own but felt completely safe all the time.

Review 3:Nothing to speak off all good. As the saying goes "It does what it says on the tin "

Review 4:Good space and comfortable with adequate amenities as good as a Premier Inn which I have stayed in many

Review 5:Room was very basic. Everything was just a bit tired. Breakfast a bit naff. No doubt is a great place for budget wedding or private party, but as lodgings for business a trip, well maybe not.

Review 6:The food in the pub was excellent.

Review 7:Very noisy and we had to change hotels at 11pm due to noise from a party no one told us about around 6 doors from our room. Stayed at peventon park hotel in thrbend which was glorious

Review 8:Lovely restaurant and good value

Review 9:It said there would be reception staff until 1900hts but none on duty. Had to go to the pub to get a room key. Staff were helpful but it was awful weather and we had to drive, even though it was only 100 yards.

Review 10:Really difficult to find in the dark as satnav took us to the wrong location. We could see the place it not get there.

Review 11:Having to be working and not enjoying the bar to its full potential.

Review 12:Stay here on a regular basis due to the staff and the fact that it good value for money.

Review 13:Just a lot more basic than I was expecting, photos are of pub which is completely separate, this is like the original budget motel chains (original IBIS etc), no-where to talk to except the associated pub, which itself is a good few minutes walk away, so nothing at the actual hotel site other than the rooms

Review 14:Basic but clean and decent desk to work at

Review 15:The tiny wet room style shower room really let the place down. Chipped formica screen, chipped wash basin and filthy grout in the shower area which was disgusting. Breakfast was served in a function room which meant that as a couple we were sitting at a huge round table which would seat 8. Bizarre! Evening service in the pub was very slow. The approach to the hotel is dismal, passing a demolition site and then approaching a vast ugly pebble dash gym building before the motel style accommodation becomes visible.

Review 16:The reception staff were friendly and cheerful. The room was adequate. The food in the adjacent pub was hearty and freshly cooked.

Review 17:Everything was ideal but the restaurant was very popular so you need to book a table otherwise there is a wait for your food

Review 18:Very handy for exploring Cornwall as you are close to both coasts. The bar and restaurant offered very good value for money. The pillows were the most comfortable ever.

Review 19:The bathroom (shower room) was a little strange but everything worked and was cleaned often.

Review 20:A good base for exploring around Cornwall. The accommodation block is all on ground level, with conference / meeting / function rooms. Being in a rural location it is very quiet at night. The pub and gym buildings are the other side of the car park so close enough to visit but not to intrude.

Review 21:Accommodation was very good, good fresh food. The staff were very helpful mas I am partly disabled. Unfortunately, we had to cut our visit short as my wife became ill.

Review 22:We had arrived late almost 8pm after a day of driving. Coming from Australia we'd made the most of our hire car covering many miles of the UK. Our late arrival was not a problem, the staff made certain we had a table for dinner which was also late after a shower but none of this seemed to bother the staff. They were very hospitable and being tired we so very grateful.

Review 23:It was a very basic hotel, although this isn't a problem. Communication regarding where breakfast is held would be appreciated. The possibility of room service would be a great addition to the overall experience.

Review 24:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The location for me to travel around Cornwall was perfect. The gym facility was fair, and the pub location for dinner was ok.

Review 25:The approach to the hotel is up a country lane which a little tight at times but in my opinion well worth it.

Review 26:This is a well situated hotel with well trained staff who are polite, helpful and go that extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. The food was very good and of good value. The rooms clean, warm and quite. I would recommend this hotel

Review 27:they let dogs into the hotel and also into the bar and resturant, which i strongly object to.

Review 28:accomadation was clean and comfortable the food was nice lots of it prices for food and drink resonable

Review 29:It was just as well I had a hire car, as it was too far to walk to the local railway station.

Review 30:The three receptionists, Jo, Eileen and Olivia were awesome. All three were friendly and helpful and offered suggestions about places to visit.

Review 31:The room was not clean and was in need of complete revamp No available space to eat in restaurant and no room service so not great when location is not close to shops

Review 32:Free WiFi

Review 33:A menu to study for breakfast would have been nice. It would have been nice to have a later breakfast. We do not know what the cause was but there was a strange smell in our room when we first entered it. Opening the window helped.

Review 34:The staff were friendly, the rooms & beds comfortable, the setting very peaceful.

Review 35:Not keen on breakfast but I am comparing it to a fantastic one we went to a couple of weeks before which would be hard to beat.

Review 36:Cleanliness and comfort of bed

Review 37:Not a fault of the hotel but woken up both nights by loudmouthed inconsiderate guests returning in the early hours. Was that you? Also in spite of booking for two in double or twin room and giving name of second person Booking .com seemed to think I was alone. So had to pay £20 extra for stay.

Review 38:Very good price for this area. Good breakfast, comfortable room and friendly staff.

Review 39:Miserable breakfast staff. No one asked how our stay during or upon leaving and all rooms smelt damp. Light switch in kids room tripped at 11pm which took an hour and a half to sort out and would have been left until the morning if I hadn't persisted.

Review 40:Nothing

Review 41:Had trouble connecting to the wifi, it was very slow when we finally got connected.

Review 42:The bar, a band was playing the night we stayed. Good food, great breakfast, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Good Room facilities (hairdryer, tea/coffee/kettle)

Review 43:Getting there do NOT use sat navy. Worst experience took us the wrong side of hotel down an awful track which should have a NO entry sign. Even after changing it.

Review 44:Breakfast lovely.

Review 45:Booked a twin room as travelling with a friend, got a double bed. Could not be separated or re-roomed so I slept on a fold out bed. Hotel said it was booking. Com problem. The staff were very helpful.

Review 46:Good location for St Ives , lands end and Penzance. Quiet rooms, adequate parking.

Review 47:The bathroom could do with updating, our sink was chipped and some of the grouting on the tiles could do with cleaning

Review 48:Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Friendly staff and locals in the bar.

Review 49:bathroom, marks on the basin and tap was weak neede tightening. breakfast was not very good. 2nd morning had beans on toast as thought could not do any damage. wrong was dry and bread was 2 slices were one was placed on top of other, not enough beans for 2 slices

Review 50:good towels staff were pleasant

Review 51:There was only one thing and that was the dated bathroom. I personally didn't like the wet room part, I would rather had a proper shower.

Review 52:For the money we paid the accommodation was good, with a kettle for hot drinks and biscuits, which after being out all day was a great asset. The staff were extremely friendly. Meals in the main restaurant were great.

Review 53:The woman on reception, who woke me up twice, was horrible and had no clue how to speak to guests. Having been woke up, told to move room at short notice, then finding out the room I had to leave was vacant the next day. Fuming still. Never going back ever.

Review 54:Breakfast felt a little disjointed. Cooked breakfast came almost straight away so not enough time to eat toast/cereal before. Taste was all good though

Review 55:Room was very clean and staff were excellent

Review 56:There was a wedding being held very close to my room which did disturb me, just until I got off to sleep. It wasn't too troublesome

Review 57:The bar and the breakfast. I advised I would miss reception booking in time so my key was left in the bar. I liked the tea and coffee facilities in the room

Review 58:Staff were unapproachable and rude, was told on email we were away from wedding reception but we were not. Refused a drink at 12 in the pub but locals were still drinking near 1am. Breakfast was extremely rushed and of poor standard. Rooms did not reflect website pictures at all. WiFi never worked over our 2 days stay. Overall really disappointed with this hotel.(if it can be classed as a hotel)

Review 59:The bed was comfortable, the food in the pub was good

Review 60:Bedroom lacked air conditioning or fan - bathroom "wet room" not very successful as far too small for this - water everywhere.

Review 61:Tricky's Pub - good pub food at reasonable prices - lovely atmosphere and lovely staff. The bedroom clean and towels nicely presented.

Review 62:The staff are very friendly and attentive the prices are very reasonable for. The rooms and also bar and meal prices are very good will definitely stay again

Review 63:N/A

Review 64:Location for what we had on was good so near the town centre. Staff were lovely, very helpful friendly and respectful. Room was fine, beds comfortable. Ideal for what we wanted. Pub very close by.

Review 65:Staff very friendly, my mother only drinks green tea but they didn't have any. By the time we returned to the hotel at the end of the day they had put some in her room .

Review 66:A little tricky to find! With the cooked breakfast (which was really delicious though!) we weren't asked what items we wanted or not, or how we would like our eggs.

Review 67:Plenty of room although we were in a 3 person room also suitable for disabled people. Plenty of tea/coffee supplies Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 68:room was very dated and very Brown, o leaving in the morning we had to wade through a puddle just outside reception that was 3 inches deep.

Review 69:friendly staff

Review 70:The staff made us all very welcome.Baxter loved the attention he received,he was allowed in for breakfast + evening meals. We weren't sure which beaches allowed dogs ,so the lovely ladies at the desk googled it + printed it off for us,which was very kind and helpful.

Review 71:The free wifi only worked for some of our party.

Review 72:The staff were extremely friendly. We told them about a wedding we were attending nearby and they found us alternative routes as they told us there had been a build up of traffic the way we were going to go. The bar staff offered to keep our meals warm while we changed our little boy and they cleaned our room earlier so we had ample time to get changed for the wedding.

Review 73:The rooms were clean but décor a little dated and dark.

Review 74:Staff very friendly, on site pub served excellent food. Beds were comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Quiet location.

Review 75:The kettles in the room could do with a good clean :(

Review 76:Great welcome from very friendly and welcoming staff. Brilliant breakfast and very good gym for great value. Good location to travel around Cornwall from.

Review 77:Bit of a walk to the pub for breakfast but this was only temporary as the normal breakfast venue was set up for a wedding

Review 78:Very friendly welcome. Plenty of car parking space

Review 79:Country side location, very peaceful place. Very close to the beach, petrol stations, markets. Food just amazing! Restaurant and pub in old school time. Very clean. Food 5 stars. Hotel clean and tidy. Will visit again!!!

Review 80:Room not very clean, type of shower meant the bathroom floor got wet each time, wifi didn't work anywhere in hotel

Review 81:Restaurant and bar area, friendly reception staff

Review 82:Sat nav doesn't do too well finding it. Drove around in circles for a while!

Review 83:Very accommodating. I Had to leave before breakfast so they made me an amazing blt baguette the night before to take with me. They even provided a coolbox overnight to keep it cool. There's also a very nice, big bar/restaurant there.

Review 84:Very welcoming and helpful staff, nothing was too much bother. The breakfast was always lovely and the on site pub served excellent meals at very reasonable prices.

Review 85:The toilets in the pub where breakfast was served hadn't been cleaned from the night before and weren't in a very nice state!!

Review 86:Value for money, comfortable room.

Review 87:The young staff at breakfast could do with some training relating to customer service. We had to get our own cups from another table and when we asked for coffee, as the coffee machine was empty, we were told they didn't know if the could make another pot... That said, we were asked what we wanted regarding breakfast quickly and the food was good.

Review 88:Hotel was very clean and the staff polite. The atmosphere is a little corporate, but that aside a good location for visiting various locations in Cornwall.

Review 89:Arrived in the evening so had to check in at the pub, while up there we decided to have supper before heading to our room. Once in the room we were greeted by masses of flies majority alive but ones that were also dying and crawling on the floor and beds, after my boyfriend spending ages clearing these I noticed the thick green mold growing in the corner beside the door and the nasty damp smell in the room. After a 14 hour drive I just decided to try and sleep but once in bed i started to notice more flies hopping around on the covers, I just wanted to cry and sleep in the car. This was a last minute booking so ended up in a twin room but because I was so worked up about how disgusting the place was we both ended up sleeping on 1 single bed (the one with the least flies). The breakfast wasn't the tastiest but I'm not sure if this is because food produce can taste different in different areas. All in all I would never stay here again which is ashame because the place looks quirky but they have let themselves down with the rooms.

Review 90:The hotel had a lovely pub up the hill.

Review 91:The friendly welcome & service was second to none. I made a special request, which was handled so kindly & helped me without hesitation. The cleaning staff do a lovely job too. When we came out of the room to get our luggage, the lady that cleaned our room asked 'is everything ok? Is your room alright for you?' And it was spotless, she had done a lovely job. We had a drink & meal there in the evening, again very friendly & efficient bar staff & waiting staff. The food was very nice , presented nicely & piping hot! Just the way I like it! Again the bar & restaraunt was spotlessly clean. There was a live band that were very good. My only gripe about the whole evening was..... I couldn't get the highest score on my favourite game on the game machine! Ha, so apart from that, excellent! I couldn't comment on breakfast because we were still full from the night before so skipped breakfast. I have no doubt that it would have been lovely too. Thank you 10/10

Review 92:The room was clean, a little basic, which was alright for us but it smelled a little stuffy - maybe the window had not been opened for awhile.

Review 93:Staff were very friendly. The bar was nice, cosy and pet friendly. Overall good value for money and we enjoyed our full English breakfast.

Review 94:Rowdy wedding party in on Saturday night, no sleep until after 2am, and an early start at 5.30 Reception staff should tell guests, that they MUST book a table for evening meal, full on Friday evening.

Review 95:Location great, staff friendly, and even though there was no table to eat on Friday evening, staff offered to move tables and squeeze us in.

Review 96:Trickys is in an ideal place if you have work across Cornwall. Not far to travel to Penzance or Newquay. Located just off the A30 its quick and easy to get up and go. The accommodation was brilliant - nice and comfortable. Restaurant was also very good with staff always there to help.

Review 97:There was only a bedside table one side of the double bed whe there was clearly lots of space for two...a health and safety issue apparently but not sure why.. Still room for wheelchair etc. silly thing to comment on but strangely really inconvenient.

Review 98:Bar staff very helpful and friendly on arrival.

Review 99:Room was quite old, bathroom was horrible. Its almost like a wet room with a piece of wood to separate toilet and shower. The water goes everywhere except down the drain. We stayed 4 nights, the first two were fully booked but you wouldn't have known. Only one other couple on the third night but on the last night a bunch of foreign tourists turned up at 2:30am, I'm unsure as to how to got their keys as reception closes early and if you turn up late you have to collect keys from the bar that closes at 11pm. They were exceptionally noisy to the point I had to ask them to quieten down. The next morning we slept through breakfast as we had a very long drive ahead of us and not much sleep that night, while everyone was at breakfast one of these people tried coming into our room. Very glad we left that morning. I told the lady at reception about this but she didn't seem bothered at all. It was very nice but not sure I'd stay again if they are okay with things like that happening. Also, my other half had a nose bleed on the sheets, when house keeping came in the next day they didn't even change the sheets, just barely pushed over the duvet, we did a better job ourselves.

Review 100:Lovely location, away from everything but also very close to a lot. Lovely staff, very friendly. Good food, breakfast was great.

Review 101:I asked what the cooked options for breakfast were and I was told "Full English". I would have expected a bit more of a variety especially being in cornwall.

Review 102:Nice big bedroom, good evening meal in nice surroundings

Review 103:Not so much "a bad experience" but we could not get free wi-fi in our room No. 11, which looked over the rear of the property. I do not know whether the router was in the pub and so too far away for us to get. Also the shower pipe was leaking so we had a constant damp smell-we did notify the reception.

Review 104:The staff were all very pleasant and it was like a family run business feeling. We were made very welcome and well looked after. The food in the pub/restaurant was excellent.

Review 105:Not really a bad experience, but bed cover items possibly could be looked into.

Review 106:very helpful friendly staff Good restaurant .Best Ham & Eggs I've had for a long while!! Tribute beer very well kept

Review 107:Very thin walls which could be a problem.

Review 108:We liked being in the countryside and having a pub on site so no driving to somewhere for drink or dinner. Staff were excellent.

Review 109:shower had no handrail to hold on to as .unable to stand up as bad on my legs as I have arthritis.

Review 110:no to far to get a good pint at night also good food

Review 111:Room was in need of updating. Only had a bedside table on one side.

Review 112:Room was a little dated but large enough and clean. Breakfast was good. Very comfy bed, we slept well.

Review 113:The ensuite had no bath, the shower was separated only by a side wall about 50cm deep with no door so in effect it was a wet room. This meant the entire floor of the room was covered in water after having a shower. The shower head was broken and held in place by a rubber band!

Review 114:Was in a nice setting and quiet location with the rooms in a separate building well away from the very busy pub.

Review 115:As a wedding reception was to be held in the garden room, we had to walk to the main restaurant for breakfast two days and I have a breathing problem.

Review 116:Quiet room (6) with pleasant outlook, Some traffic noise from A30, We always have a window open.

Review 117:Breakfast had to be served in the Barn quite some distance from the rooms due to a wedding taking place the next day. No room service was available. As it was raining heavily I did not have breakfast. Also no water was provided.

Review 118:The evening meal in the Barn was excellent with superb service at a reasonable price.

Review 119:It would good to have draws in the bedroom and a shelf in the bathroom

Review 120:The staff went out of their way to help you.Food was excellent and also the service.Location good to view west Cornwall.Over all a very enjoyable stay

Review 121:Only complaint: water pressure in shower when there were a lot of other people in the hotel. It made shower last an hour.

Review 122:Great starting point for going to lots of different places in Cornwall. Great place to end the day because the restaurant and bar were excellent. Friendly staff. Comfortable room.

Review 123:Would ideally have liked more choice at breakfast maybe, such as dried fruit??

Review 124:Enhanced by the nearby restaurant which was very pleasant and the food was fresh and reasonably priced. Ran out of lemon sole but the sea bass was really good. Good bantering opportunities with the locals. Pleasant staff at breakfast and nicely laid out.

Review 125:Shower had no pressure - couldn't be used. The reception just said they would get someone to look into it after we were gone. Thank goodness we were only staying one night.

Review 126:The pub is fantastic. The food was amazing.

Review 127:The single room I stayed in was really small.

Review 128:The location is good. You can reach the city centre and Pendennis Castle within a 20 min. walk. Breakfast was fantastic. The lounge is very relaxing. The beach is only 2 min away. Very friendly and well organized staff.

Review 129:Bathroom lacked any comfort. There was no place to put personal toiletries It is not a place for the mature person.

Review 130:Dinners were excellent and portions were more than adequate. It was quiet.

Review 131:Stayed in this hotel for a family funeral was not happy due to having booked a family room, on arrival had to pay 15 pound for my 3 year and 15 pound for my 2 year on top of the family room price, was then placed in a disability room which had one double bed and one single camp bed, there was no bath to even bath the kids also had a 9 month baby which I was expected to give a shower, when I went to get a shower at 10pm there was no hot water in the sink or shower, on top of all that there was someone sicking all night in there bathroom next door and someone else outside the window, would not recommend this hotel to anyone with kids,

Review 132:It was the best location at the time,

Review 133:Breakfast was short on variety. When we asked for my bacon to be cooked lightly done it was bought out crispy and was told that that was all there was, we got the impression that they weren't bothered. I did not enjoy it here and will not be going back.

Review 134:Reception staff were friendly and the meal we had in the pub attached to the hotel was good value for money.

Review 135:Could not use shower if someone else in your block was using it, the water dribbled out.

Review 136:Staff were really friendly and attentive. Close to station. Really nice cooked breakfast. I was refunded money due to the shower issue, which was good.

Review 137:Bathroom has nowhere to place washbag item- needs shelving. Rooms very dated for the price Breakfast didn't even sit down and was asked what we wanted. .. asked for a couple of minutes as waiting on my parents. As soon as they walked in again we were asked about breakfast. I felt we were rushed through breakfast. Not worth the money paid.

Review 138:the location, the room was a good temperature.

Review 139:Even though rooms very clean, could do with up-dating(painting), we had few scuff marks on the walls and could do with some shelves in the shower unit.

Review 140:Location is central to Cornwall and food is excellent with price and very filling. Very clean and tidy . Helpful staff and very polite.
