Reviews for Muckrach Country House Hotel

Review 1:We had a wonderful stay. The hotel is the perfect balance of luxury and homely comfort. We were well looked after and it exceeded our expectations in all areas.

Review 2:Food (fish) was just slightly over cooked but as we were at a table of 15 didn't want to complain. Porridge should be included in continental menu as oppose to cooked.

Review 3:The overall appearance/decor of the hotel. The Christmas decor was beautiful.

Review 4:Although the meal was lovely, we were in a small echoing room with a few other couples and we could hear every word each table said. It's worth noting though that this appeared a temporary dining room while the main one was being prepared for a function.

Review 5:Beautiful room with a mix of traditional highland style and modern convenience. Great bar room and library for cosy winter drinking before or after your meal. Excellent staff service.

Review 6:Had a wonderful time staying at Muckrach, even more so because while we were there we got engaged. It's a beautiful place and the staff, rooms and dinner and breakfast were all fantastic. Can't wait to have my wedding there.

Review 7:it is just off a main road so you have to walk along the main road for a bit to get to a walking path if you want to go for a stroll.

Review 8:The hotel had been recently renovated to a very high standard. The room was lovely, very comfortable and had everything we could need. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, we had dinner, lunch and breakfast. The breakfast in particular was delicious! Great selection of whiskeys and gins and a relaxing atmosphere in the bar.

Review 9:The décor in the property is beautiful. It is so well presented and the attention to detail is noticeable. Had a great evening relaxing by the fire with a whisky. The pack lunch they provided for us was enormous and fed us for two lunches! A great relaxing stay. Couldn't fault it.

Review 10:Stayed Sunday night and the dinner menu was very restricted as a result. Which seemed a very strange policy for a quality operation. Also draught beer selection was very limited, only pale lager type ales. No dark ales on draught

Review 11:Excellent value for money and everything high quality.

Review 12:Nothing bad to say. Only small advice is ask for a ground floor room if you cant get up stairs as there isn't a lift.

Review 13:Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel, only wish we were here for longer. It has been renovated this year and the place looks amazing! We had a quiet room on the top floor with a huge room and bathroom. The breakfast was very tasty, and there was a Highland Cow at the bottom of the garden which was great for a tourist photo or two.no complaints!

Review 14:Difficult to find- without SatNav!

Review 15:Warm, welcoming relaxed atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Superb, comfortable accommodation. Excellent quality of food

Review 16:Only thing we didn't like is that we had to get back to Edinburgh and couldn't have a longer stay!

Review 17:We liked everything about Muckrach! The refurbished property is a delight -proving that classic with a contemporary twist really can work. All the facilities & standards of home plus good food and great hospitality from management and staff. For us this was a real find and now the problem we have is that, while we want to share good things with our friends, there's a danger we won't be get a room there next time we come to book!

Review 18:The room may have been slightly to warm ,But that was our own fault as My partner screwed on the Radiator.

Review 19:The Staff was very friendly and efficient and that made our stay very relaxed we just felt like we were at home, Thanks .

Review 20:The lovely location, friendly attentive staff, comfortable & tastefully furnished rooms, excellent food (high quality, well prepared & cooked) and service - all created a lovely ambience and offered good value for money. The Haggis Bites, Rib eye Steak and Muckrach 15 year old Malt are a must!

Review 21:None!!!!!!

Review 22:Beautiful situation. Fabulous furnishings- all very new and no expense spared. Excellent formal dining and super staff. Each room is individually furnished to an exceptionally high standard. The best of everything ! Location is just outside the town of Granton -on -Spey. Utterly peaceful!

Review 23:Lovely location, lovely accommodation which was finished to the highest standard. Great food and just a good cosy friendly feel about the place. Staff were very helpful and polite -top marks all round and we will be back again soon!

Review 24:The guest house is recently renovated. It is beautifully done. Tasteful fresh with a sense of luxury. Bathrooms were new and spacious with rainshower heads. Beds super comfy. Best of all was the food and gin/whisky bar! Best place we have stayed in the 4 weeks we have been in the UK. We might even pop back before we head home as 1 night was not enough.

Review 25:It's about half a mile outside Dalnain Bridge if you fancy somewhere else to eat. That said the food at Muchrach was very good and open all day to non residents

Review 26:Beautiful hotel with lovely relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent throughout our two night stay. Staff were very friendly and made sure service was of a high standard. Overall very positive experience!

Review 27:No faults with hotel but nowhere to walk my dog without driving to another place.(awkward first thing in morning!). Our room was a little small but perhaps this was because we had our dog and hotel not quite ready for pets.

Review 28:Staff very friendly and helpful, food and accommodation excellent. Lots of places to visit, by car, nearby.

Review 29:Nothing not to like...

Review 30:The literally accommodating staff. The hotel's public rooms, the food, ambience and location. The rooms are finished to a very high standard, and the whole hotel has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated.

Review 31:Very relaxing. Everything about the place is well thought-out and really adds to the experience of staying there.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Fantastic hotel in every way , no expense spared in its restoration. Pure comfort ,a must stay hotel

Review 34:Everything

Review 35:Couteous,caring staff.

Review 36:Banging outside door below our bedroom window. Sunday night meal disappointing

Review 37:Beautiful comfortable retreat

Review 38:Location, ambience, staff, service food and cleanliness.

Review 39:Friendly, helpful staff. Hotel is truly excellent. Beautiful hotel inside and out.

Review 40:Would have liked a free standing bath but bathroom suite nice

Review 41:All excellent. Very comfortable. Good service. Good food in restaurant. Relaxing time.

Review 42:Beautiful surroundings. Comfortable accommodation. Excellent food.

Review 43:Stunning hotel, recently renovated in a modern quirky fashion, to a very high standard, and the staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 44:Location, food, facilities, staff, everything.

Review 45:Facilities, area ambiance and overall experience was excellent

Review 46:Beautiful decor, location, food, service - what more can I say !

Review 47:Recently refurbished rooms - spacious, well appointed rooms and bathrooms. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 48:Had a nice relaxing over night stay, would certainly go back

Review 49:Top class service in all areas.

Review 50:The friendliness of the staff and the piper during dinner was a really nice touch

Review 51:The shower was somewhat strange to manage. poor presure. the staff was never around, but it also gave you a sense of being at home.

Review 52:The room was very big, excelent bed.

Review 53:Quiet rural location. Staff friendly and breakfast good. Manor house has plenty of charm and overall stay enjoyable. Rooms comfortable but en-suite bathrooms need refurbishing.

Review 54:I felt the breakfast was overpriced and was not the same standard of cooking as the dinner. Also since the rooms were around £130 avg each a complimentary breakfast would have been a nice touch. Especially since we ate in the restaurant ( 4 people 3 courses each plus wine and drinks) the night before, but that's not really a complaint merely a suggestion. Overall a very enjoyable visit and would return in the future.

Review 55:The accommodation was excellent and the food and wine delicious. Loved the cozy bar where you could sit and read a book or talk away the evening with friends.

Review 56:A bit of trouble actually finding the place, and the TV in the room didn't work (a plus point for me, but the Teenager wasn't so happy...

Review 57:Their bat colonies! Highland Scotland in August, and not a midgie in sight! Breakfasts good, dinner excellent, pet friendly, rooms wonderfully comfortable, quiet and staff friendly and relaxed - even my monosyllabic teenager was charmed.

Review 58:Very nice food and helpful staff, spacey rooms and the 6 acre surrounding land giving enough space for our 2 and half year old to run around without disturbing anyone. Easy access to the Cairngorms for those who love nature.

Review 59:Expensive. Couldn't open windows as they had been painted shut.Complained but nobody did anything about it. Grounds overgrown withstinging nettles growing beside the front door. Rusty bbq left on lawnnext to breakfast conservatory - lovely. Nothing like the pictures!!Staff couldn't be bothered to serve at breakfast. Had to go and findthe kitchen during breakfast as there was no coffee. Found them allhaving a good chin wag - no apologies. Owner has a dreadful attitudewhich rubs off onto staff.

Review 60:Location was fine...

Review 61:Sadly there was a rather active toddler staying whilst we were there who marred our peace!

Review 62:Wonderful surroundings, attentive yet unobtrusive staff and lovely food

Review 63:Breakfast poor. room grubby.door handle on door broken and window painted shut, it was 31ºC outside! Decking treacherous. Food overpriced. Drinks at London prices.Been better places for a lot less.

Review 64:Nice grounds. bed comfy.

Review 65:Web site is clearly overstating the whole situation. Everything is verytired and in need of a major Reno. Restuarant is very expensive comparedto a similar local hotel which was streets ahead in every way.

Review 66:Not a great deal.

Review 67:In all our years of travelling all over the world this was the smallesthotel room we have ever seen. Nowhere to put luggage, no chairs, a smallbed. The towels were thin and frayed, the gardens lacking attention, anon-working remote control. We had dinner the first night butunfortunately the steak was inedible (at least they took this off thebill when we checked out) and the presentation of the food was poor. Wehate being taken for a ride but this time we were - very expensive, extra for breakfast and very poor. We never had a bad experience withBooking.com before, but this was very bad and spoilt our holiday.

Review 68:The young ladies at check in and serving at dinner and breakfastwere excellent

Review 69:We were disappointed that the restaurant was out of commission while wewere there due to the chef leaving unexpectedly. I chose the hotelbecause it had a restaurant and expected not to have to travel in theevenings looking for somewhere to eat. Bijoux rooms rather on the smallside, given the price!

Review 70:Great little hotel in a beautiful setting. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 71:Needs an ironing boarding in the room!

Review 72:Wonderful staff, beautiful landscape, location in Speyside. First hotel in the UK we've stayed in that provided wash cloths! Thank you!

Review 73:We've stayed several times in the past, but this was the first time we've stayed since Muckrack Lodge changed hands ~5 years ago. We are pleased to report that the new owners have maintained the same high standards that we have enjoyed in the past. A very relaxing country house environment with an excellent restaurant.

Review 74:We had no complaints. We would stay there again if in that area.

Review 75:We liked the situation and location of the hotel; in the countryside butnot far from Grantown on Spey. We enjoyed walking round the garden, admiring the highland cattle in the adjacent field and the fact that thehotel was dog friendly. Our bedroom and bathroom were well appointed. However we could not make the tv work but that did not matter much. Weate dinner in the hotel restaurant and the meal was most enjoyablethough quite expensive. We also enjoyed a delicious breakfast. The staffwere friendly and attentive.

Review 76:Heating turned off in the evenings and the hotel became very cold overnight. Not even a fire in the public room. Dinner service poor.

Review 77:An 1860s hunting lodge, it has been converted into a country hotel. It has the potential to be very comfortable.

Review 78:The Hotel wasn't very warm some of the rooms & hallway felt cold.

Review 79:The owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The owner also being the cook was fantastic. The food was of very high quality and all local produce. She tailor made the menu to cater for what we had seen on a previous menu the night before.

Review 80:There wasn't anything we didn't like, the only thing I will say is thewater pressure from the shower was a bit weak!!

Review 81:Very freindly & helpful staff/owners. The room we had was excellent & itis a traditional highland retreat.

Review 82:the place is not clean.when checking in no offer to help with luggage.it does not merit 4 stars!!

Review 83:staff in bar and dining room.good food

Review 84:advertised as free wi fi, wanted to charge 5 pds on arrival, should have been free with tariff charged as should have breakfast

Review 85:No complaints. Good standard overall.

Review 86:Great staff. Conservatory restuarant very relaxing and enjoyable.Wondefully quiet.

Review 87:The room where we stay had nothing special... No Scot style.

Review 88:Lovely location - nice old building
