Reviews for Best Western Sea Hotel

Review 1:Room spacious but bathroom in dire need of a.) A good clean, b.) Total refurb.

Review 2:Dinner was EXCELLENT, the choice, taste and service way up with the best! Cooked breakfast...poached eggs perfect!

Review 3:don't go in room 105 extractor outside right outside bedroom window had this room booked for over 6 months yet they gave us the worst room

Review 4:staff where great

Review 5:Staff need to be more pleasant, not helpful at all and need to be more customer focused, Allocated annexe if know wouldn't have booked. Carpet etc dirty Been to lots of best western hotel and always enjoyed stay, this hotel is 1 star at the best and overpriced for shed at the back

Review 6:nothing

Review 7:Food was under cooked. Bathroom was really bad. Basin was almost at my knees, shower is not thermostatic so easy to scald. Really needs to be upgraded to a proper standard. Shower screen not fitted correctly which also leaked.

Review 8:Staff were friendly.

Review 9:1st room I got I changed as the mattress was like being laid on springs alone. 2nd room was better but the shower was impossible to get to a reasonable temperature it was either boiling to the point of 2nd degree burns or freezing to the point of hypothermia. The hotel is dated, but the 1920's stairs and lobby area is a real attractive place, it just need love and attention. (Also a room refurbishment)!

Review 10:The location was good, sea front and the breakfast was good.

Review 11:Small bed, tired bathroom, over heated bedroom, Not the most comfortable nights' sleep.

Review 12:The food - the restaurant - fantastic. Excellent menu, very good choice, well cooked and excellently served. Excellent location, with ample parking.

Review 13:Bathroom was dated. Showers was very hard to work either freezing cold or boiling hot. Wifi internet didn't reach room.

Review 14:Room looked very nice and staff were helpful.

Review 15:The shower didn't work all that well and the wifi signal wasn't consistent in our room on the second floor.

Review 16:Hotel was only a short walk to the metro which made access to Newcastle quick and easy. Breakfast was tasty and the bed was comfortable.

Review 17:Great location and short walk to town centre. Food OK and good choice on menu. Decor is very outdated however the room was pleasant and comfortable.

Review 18:It really is time BEST WESTERN put something back into this iconic hotel. A full refurb is well over due. The bathroom was a joke - not a funny one. The staff deserve better, so do the guests.

Review 19:The staff were A1 nothing was a problem. cleaning lady brilliant

Review 20:The fan in the bathroom was extremely noisy.

Review 21:The staff were very pleasant and the food first class. Although very old (I am from South Shields originally and the hotel has been here all my life.(I am in my 70s) it is very well maintained.

Review 22:I have stayed in quite a few Best Western Hotels and never have theylooked so dated and worn out as this one, and a word to the manager, youshould not ignore people especially when they were paying their bill infront of you and you were more interested in bragging to your Friend atthe side off us. I will not be Back!

Review 23:Staff were friendly and helpful, bar lady could not do enough to get usseated and meals organised, ideal situated for our visit.

Review 24:Wifi kept dropping off and was priced highly (but this is due to supply and demand of great north run)

Review 25:Great location and facilities. Breakfast was very good!

Review 26:Disappointed at early closing of the bar, i.e. 11. (Cocktail bar ('open to 12') not open at all).

Review 27:Location great for access to family further in (Jarrow/Newcastle) and just for strolls on the beach. Lively with wedding parties. (Might not suit everyone).

Review 28:Bed creaked. Bathrom needed a refurb.

Review 29:All of the staff went out of their way to oblige. Nothing was too much trouble. Very good location. Evening meals available in restaurant and as bar snacks- competitively priced, very good selection of food on menu.

Review 30:The breakfast was lovely, the staff were also friendly. One of the morning waitress's made our daughter a swan out of a napkin. Our 9yr old daughter was thrilled and really impressed .

Review 31:The room was dirty and cup stains on the table. Dusty on tables lamps etc. found the whole place needs an update

Review 32:Great staff comfy bed lovely food. Easy free parking and close to sea front.

Review 33:Our room was very nice apart from the dust. The carpet was blue and you could see where it had not been hoovered properly. I think the whole place could do with a lick of paint.

Review 34:The breakfast was very nice and the staff too.

Review 35:The wifi cut out or won't connect The beds are the old metal spring type Was good enough for the night but there are more comfortable mattresses out there

Review 36:The staff at this place are just so welcoming and helpful I've never had a team in a hotel that worked like these they seemed to enjoy the job Made my stay a nice one I turned up very early but was still given a room. Breakfast was ok as well

Review 37:hotel is dirty, room was old and tired and smelly (had to leave window open) bathroom was filthy and old , tiles broken, bath stained. Bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever.

Review 38:staff were friendly and location was ideal for where i needed to get to.

Review 39:Receptionist on Saturday was appalling in her a attitude. Bag of linen parked on a landing on the route of a fire escape. Sorry but I will not be returning ,value for money ,you must be joking.

Review 40:The staff service and quality in the restraint was exceptionally good

Review 41:No bad experience. Decor a bit dated but clean and comfortable

Review 42:Location was fantastic near everything you could want from lively to a nice quiet stroll

Review 43:The heat in the room and windows not opening needed a fan from reception which we left on all night. Need showers and bathroom updated the shower didn't work properly at all

Review 44:The view from the room shame window didn't open further than it did

Review 45:The roads were closed around the hotel on the Sunday morning due to a sporting event. Fortunately due to help from the staff we got round the problem.

Review 46:Central location with a very nice restaurant.

Review 47:Horrible. Broken TV, internet and tub. Uncomfortable bed. The outside of the hotel looks like a prison. Very sad. It needs serious work.

Review 48:Alan, the manager, was accomodtaing. A very nice man.

Review 49:The weather was hot and the radiator couldn't be turned off The bathroom was worse than you would have expected in Spain 30 yes ago The cold tap on basin had extreme water hammer On checkout was never asked if everything was OK so couldn't be bothered to say anything. Room 210. Very small so glad we was only there one night. I would not recommend this hotel. It needs a serious upgrade

Review 50:Not much

Review 51:The signage was hard to see, we were looking for the Great Western sign not Sea Hotel. No lift to take our luggage upstairs. The shower was hard to work out and the water was cold after the first person had their shower.

Review 52:The staff were nice and the hotel was within walking distance of the town centre. Nice breakfast.

Review 53:The bedrooms were far too hot 2 of the rooms were so hot our guests couldn't sleep in them and had to be moved. Fans only circulated hot air. Weather wasn't particularly hot either so look out in the summer.

Review 54:Staff were very friendly and the location suited us.

Review 55:The breakfast was fine on our first morning but the second morning, there were no glasses for juice, the juice jugs were empty and were never refilled and we were at breakfast relatively early

Review 56:The bed was really comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities in the room with decaf coffee sachets in room was an added bonus. Really cosy hotel

Review 57:We stayed in room 104 and the noise from the club downstairs and air con units right outside the window are horrendous. If the hotel had been cheaper i would have accepted the discomfort , but for £85 a night I have stayed in much better hotels, also building needs refurbishment really badly. On general I thought it was overpriced.

Review 58:service, breakfast and location are good, free parking and wifi are a bonus.

Review 59:No bad experience as such but having such a lush breakfast at 10 we wernt ready to have our sunday lunch till about 4oclock unfortunatly lunch finished about 3oclock so we missed out could go on a bit longer for residents

Review 60:we enjoyed the food and the drinks and the helpfull staff plus the room was large and very clean

Review 61:We were in the annex block which was like something out of Butlins. a Glass corridor with 5 ground floor rooms. No lock on corridor door so no security other than room door. Room window looked out into this corridor & through to the car park.

Review 62:location is very nice. Plenty of restaurants/Pubs near by.

Review 63:It seems a little bit dated and could benefit from some updates. The plumbing in the bathroom could do with some attention and every floorboard in the room creaked when you walked over it.

Review 64:Location was good, staff friendly, everything was clean, plenty of parking. The rook was comfortable and had everything that was required. The food in the restaurant was quite nice.

Review 65:The hotel is now looking a bit tired. We have stayed here several times and noticed it this time. The WiFi is not good, almost non-existent

Review 66:As always, a friendly and welcoming staff. Food in the restaurant very good

Review 67:Sleeping can be difficult- need to have windows shut due to traffic noice but room was very stuffy. We did have a fan for night-time, but air con would have been better.

Review 68:Sea-front location. Has all the standards of a Best Western 3 star hotel- good rooms, food, staff, facilities.

Review 69:Wifi could have been better. Bathroom furniture definitely needs upgrading.

Review 70:Location was perfect. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely sea view. We slept really well. Breakfast was perfect, and so was the steak dinner we had in the restaurant. We are planning another break at this Hotel in the Summer. Highly recommend it.

Review 71:The only negative was the extreme heat in our room, with radiators that couldn't be turned down. This made the dog pant all night & I didn't get a great night's sleep. However, family members in other rooms didn't have this problem.

Review 72:Lovely friendly, helpful staff in a great place, close to the beach. Everyone made our dog very welcome.

Review 73:Nothing really!

Review 74:Food very good and freshly cooked. Staff welcoming and informative. Annexe room comfy and big. Did not feel like a 'chain' hotel.

Review 75:The breakfast was not nice at all. There were a lot of hairs in the bathroom. It was very tired and the rooms needed a makeover.

Review 76:The location was excellent

Review 77:En Suite bathroom was very clean, but tiny and a bit dated. Requires refurbishing with a modern shower and bath.

Review 78:Nice spacious room, with complimentary Full English Breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 79:The only negative things we could find to say would be that one of our drinks was served in an inappropriate glass and the communal toilets are in need of a refurbishment

Review 80:We were travelling as a family group with our mother who is infirm and had requested a ground floor room. The receptionost had given thought to the situation and put us all in the annex which was ideal. Rooms were lovely and warm on coldest night of the year. All very clean and comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful to my mother, opening doors and going out of their way to make us welcome. We all had full Englisgh Breakfast and we were all in agreement that this was the best breakfast that we had ever eaten. We cannot recommend the Sea Hotel highly enough and will definitely return.

Review 81:The rooms were smaller than the pictures on the internet led you to believe. The hotel needs a refurbishment to drag it out of the 70's. It was expensive for such an old fashioned small room

Review 82:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was really nice. It was clean and functional

Review 83:Room 105 - next to kitchen ventilator and quite pokey. Noisy - thanks to ventilator. Managed to move for first night. Bags of dirty linen on stair wells did not help the overall atmosphere.

Review 84:Excellent staff. Reception helpful. Head waiter - Chris especially on the ball. Food competent and very good value. Wine list varied enough and again good value.

Review 85:Stayed here for one night for a wedding. Lovely staff, probably the most friendly I have ever experienced. Lovely rooms and very comfortable bed, couldn't say a bad word about it!

Review 86:Room 118 has a twelve inch step halfway over the floor,on a browncarpet, which you can`t see even during the day. Waited over half an hourfor breakfast order to be taken

Review 87:Everything about the hotel is very good , if there is only half a dozenpeople in it . as soon as they get busy , everything grinds to a halt.Staff doing there best , but very under staffed.

Review 88:some one set the alarm to go of numerous times during the night had to unplug it as not much fun trying to turn off the alarm at 2 30 am and again at 5 am

Review 89:location

Review 90:Bathroom clean but cud do with being updated slightly & tap pressure poor.

Review 91:Close to beach / promenade / Ammusements.......Only a few minutes walk from Shops .

Review 92:Quality and value of bar meals. This area of South Shields is becoming rather a special place with all the new developments and refubiments. A pleasant place to be.

Review 93:Bathroom was a bit shabby and shower very poor, very difficult to get the temperature right, ended up having a cold shower.

Review 94:The room was a little on the small side and I thought the price was a bit steep at £82.50. However, breakfast was great, staff very polite and free car park. I would definitely stay again.

Review 95:I booked in advance but while i was in the reception area another couple came in and were offered a room for 1/3rd of the price I paid ,which was very annoying, the hotel is a little dated but good enough, I wanted a few tea bags and coffee which stated were available at reception but twice I went down and was told to go find the cleaners upstairs, the staff in the breakfast room got our orders wrong on both days but even though it was not what they had written down on our orders the food was good and the breakfast menu very varied , all in all i was slightly disappointed as this was the stay with the best western group

Review 96:The location was good as on sea front , the cleaners were lovely, friendly and helpful, as were the bar staff

Review 97:Water pressure was so bad we could not get shower to an acceptable temperature. Washed my hair under the tap. Floorboards creaked very loudly, very disappointing quality of room for the price.

Review 98:Staff were very nice, food was good.Good location.

Review 99:No lift. There was a step at the foot of the bed, separating the bed area from the rest of the room - could be a hazard when negotiating the room in the dark.

Review 100:Location by the sea, wonderful view of sunrise. Excellent restaurant.

Review 101:Rooms comfortable, beds also comfortable, Bathrooms also cleaned correctly, with clean towels dally, continental breakfast was good and room service fast

Review 102:Nothing.

Review 103:Reasonably quiet, to say it is opposite the Pier (but it was middle of September), pleasant staff. Excellent fish and chips. Ideally situated next to Haven Leisure Centre.

Review 104:Felt on the whole hotel was a bit dated. Needs modernised although beds were really comfortable.

Review 105:The hotel was in a really good location and the breakfast was good. Staff really helpful.

Review 106:the furniture is very dated it is in deperate need of modernisation. the windows were extremly drafty. the floorboards were really creaky and there was no lift

Review 107:location was brilliant staff were friendly and rooms were clean

Review 108:The decor of the hotel had a tired feel about it. There was a member of the dining staff who could be quite sullen at times and gave the feeling that she begrudged having to do anything. Furthermore there were two other members of staff so engrossed in conversation at reception that they failed to notice a lady in a mobility scooter needing assistance to enter the building through the main doors.

Review 109:A good central location. The food is of a high standard Some staff were very helpful indeed and were keen to put the customer first.

Review 110:Claustrophobic OMG it felt like the walls were closing in on a bright sunny dy ,no light in the place ,baking hot rooms ,toiletries had been used and not replaced ,the towels were falling apart ,the bed was the worst I've ever slept in ...awful on every level

Review 111:Nothing

Review 112:After booking 2 single rooms through Booking.com we arrived to be informed that only one room had been allocated and there was no room at the Inn for my colleague. We did manage to convince the staff to re-arrange the room allocation and give us a twin in lieu of the single and put the occupant of the twin in a single. The booking process/communication fell down somewhere along the way!

Review 113:We had no shower it was not working. When I reported to reception they said they would have it looked at but no one was available at the time. Therefore no shower to wash our hairs. Also sink and bath had not been cleaned properly . Felt really dissappointed. Also riom very noisy from fan under window. Would not stay there again.

Review 114:Staff at breakfast friendly x

Review 115:Poor wi-fi

Review 116:Hotel on the seafront with parking. We enjoyed walking along the beach after a long journey. Clean, comfortable room. The evening meal was very good. Served breakfast with good food selection. Attentive and friendly staff. Value for money.

Review 117:The only thing we didn't like was the shower, the water came out like a trickle. I struggled to wash my hair properly.

Review 118:Lovely room, big bathroom, friendly staff and excellent food.

Review 119:Unfortunately we were given the last available room in the main building as we didn't want to be in annex looking over car park. It was small and very basic and hot. Air conditioning units on flat roof (bar?) outside made room very noisy. Checked out after 1 night sorry to say. Husband did complain!

Review 120:Lovely situation by the sea.

Review 121:The stairs! Unfortunately there is no lift, and we were on the second floor. The staff were very good taking our cases up and down for us, but after a long day walking the stairs were a bit daunting at the end.

Review 122:The room was very comfortable, with quite a large bathroom. It was a served breakfast with everything cooked to order. We also had evening meal there which was very good. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I would stay there again.

Review 123:From walking into the hotel we were welcomed by polite friendly staff. We were told of all facilites in hotel. Rooms were clean spacious with everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious. Staff in restaurant made you feel at home. We enjoyed a relaxing stay.

Review 124:Tired decor.

Review 125:Good staff.

Review 126:The full English breakfast wasn't up to much half slice of black pudding and half sausage Also porridge only covered bottom of bowl

Review 127:Overpriced for what it is. Rooms very tired and bathrooms awful. The bar area is very dated.

Review 128:Staff were friendly

Review 129:This is a lovely family run hotel. The staff are lovely, breakfast was amazing. Room was lovely and clean and warm.

Review 130:room clean tidy and comfortable

Review 131:Friendly staff. Good breakfast

Review 132:Lovely bedroom and Excellent breakfast

Review 133:little bit tired in places stuck in the 70's

Review 134:bar was good and breakfast

Review 135:The hotel is in need of a decoration it is a bit tired and dull

Review 136:venue , food and staff were excellent
