The Mill House descritpion

This 18th-century former corn mill provides first-class food and board, like a true traditional inn. The Mill House is on Cornwall’s north coast, between Port Isaac and Boscastle.
The Mill is a charming stone building with a bar, dining room and residents' lounge all with cozy wood fires. It is set in 7 acres of its own wooded valley and garden.
The restaurant serves local produce and local ales. A bar menu is also available.
Camelot, King Arthur's legendary castle is located in the next valley.

Reviews for The Mill House

Review 1:The bar area wasn't as warming as we expected although that could have been because of it being a Sunday evening.

Review 2:The food and service during breakfast were very good.

Review 3:Room very small and dark, window opened on to woody area, crickets and grasshoppers in room due to this. Could hardly get around the bed due to room so small

Review 4:Lovely staff very friendly ,great location, good food, real ambiance.

Review 5:We liked the friendly welcome and feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. It was a casual but smart ambience which suited the lovely building and its setting.

Review 6:Rooms a little dimly lit and the bar could've been a little cleaner.

Review 7:Quirky and unusual. A refreshing change! Food was excellent. Staff very friendly.

Review 8:We had a spacious, light and airy room. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast each morning and live music in the bar one evening. We walked to the beach and then came back for a lovely meal in the restaurant. Instantly relaxed and refreshed. A lovely place.

Review 9:the double bed was saggy. the camper bed was just as bad. in the end I just used the single mattress to sleep on the floor, but nothing could be done about the double bed my sister used.

Review 10:There was a bit of a mix up with Booking.com on the request for a twin-bedded room, and the office manager tried his best to find us an alternative hotel. In the end, due to the full capacity, we chose to stay with the hotel, and use a camper bed.

Review 11:Staff and locals rude. Felt like we shouldn't have been there. Shower sink and toilet filthy. Kettle had mould inside. Would not come here again. If any one asked me if they should stop there I would advise to go else where.

Review 12:Checking out

Review 13:The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the host, Mark. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and would highly recommend it to friends and family.

Review 14:Signs could be better as is off the beaten track and although saw a sign that said Sweet Water Trout Farm it didn't also say B and B so we carried on driving. No lock on bedroom door, not really a problem - just to note. Nowhere to sit other than bedroom.

Review 15:Jill rang to check on proposed arrival time to make sure she would be around. Lots of toiletries in bathroom if have forgotten something.

Review 16:Musty-smelling in the lodging section (not the restaurant/bar), possibly due to the wall to wall carpeting throughout the hallways and our room (carpeting not such a good idea with such damp air). Also, room was very cramped, mainly due to all the unnecessary furniture (a big chair, an armoire (use hooks instead!).

Review 17:The food was very good (dinner and breakfast), bed very comfortable, nice linens, etc. Location was pretty with a stream running along the property.

Review 18:room and corridors in need of re painting. hole in wall under window not sealed around paintwork. noisy restaurant party spoilt enjoyment of live music and noise from bar very noticeable in room.

Review 19:simple but stylish decor. friendly and efficient staff live folk music excellent food Trebarwith Strand bay

Review 20:We enjoy a warm welcome, a willing professional staff who made our stay relaxing, who served the most delicious meals so we ate at the Inn for both breakfast and dinner.

Review 21:The wifi didn't seem to reach the cottage where we stayed but we didn't mind. It would havebeen nice to have music facilities.

Review 22:The location was perfect. The staff very helpful and obliging. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was plentiful.

Review 23:Noisy room 5 above bar and smokers outside. No shower only bath with shower tap. Food was expensive

Review 24:Great location for walks and beach. Food was good. Friendly staff

Review 25:be warned if you rent the cottage there is no wifi there only at the main house. Not horrible but not convenient

Review 26:the staff was so sweet and helpful. Fiona and Andrew were the best. The food was also beyond exquisite.

Review 27:the room was very tired and disappointing, it was noisy from the bar downstairs, you could hear every conversation, and the people upstairs walking around their room. It was hot and the duvet was too thick.

Review 28:the young people running the place on the evening we were there were very good and professional.

Review 29:The Mill House is a little out of the way but is full of atmosphere. Very friendly staff. The bed was the best we have ever had in a Hotel or B&B. The breakfast was delicious... Fun place to stay...

Review 30:the only downside is the sounds you can hear from surrounding rooms, creaky floor boards, toilets flushing, even people snoring BUT this is due to the old building and the traditional doors/walls/floors I guess which are also the factors that made this place loveable!!

Review 31:Location is great for the beach and for coastal walks

Review 32:We stayed one night. The hotel needs a major investment to be modernised and improved, including sound proof, as you can hear your neighbours and their television next door.

Review 33:the location is fantastic, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.

Review 34:Room was comfortable, shower had good pressure. Breakfast was excellent, we had dinner there and it was good too. Mark was very helpful in carrying our cases up and down the stairs for us. Good for sightseeing in North Cornwall but you need a car as no shops etc nearby.

Review 35:We didn't have a proper shower, just an attachment over the bath. I think the room could do with up grading, not really a £90 a night room !

Review 36:Very cosy pub with log burners in the bar, great staff, very welcoming

Review 37:Menu in the main restuarant could be more veggie friendly especially the starters.

Review 38:Friendliness of the staff. Entertainment on the Saturday night. Breakfast was excellant

Review 39:the wifi password! I couldn't get it to work, as we were on our honeymoon this wasn't a priority!

Review 40:The ambiance of the hotel is chic yet relaxed and this flows through the whole building. The Bar and Dining areas, clean a no expense spared feel but not pretentious. The staff were excellent, efficient, polite an nothing was too much trouble. We celebrated our Honeymoon at the old mill and hope to return on every anniversary. The cuisine was the best we have had in a while, superbly presented, full of flavour and piping hot until the last mouthful.

Review 41:If I have to quibble, I would have preferred a feather duvet to the man-made one, which was a bit sweaty!!

Review 42:This pub/restaurant/hotel nestles in a beautiful quiet combe, only 10 mins stroll from what must be one of the best rocky coves in Cornwall. Food outstanding, ambience cosy but somehow modern as well. The bar area was so welcoming I'm still missing it now.Great room and shower!

Review 43:Lovely breakfast and evening meal. What the room lacked in size it made up for in character. Beautiful part of England.Be sure to follow the directions on their web page and don't choose the "scenic" route. We went on some tractor lanes that we would have preferred not seeing, especially at the end of a long day of driving!

Review 44:Initial reaction to the entrance foyer was negative.I thought the entrance area and reception could do with a tidy up and more welcoming. It turned me off until I saw the rest of the hotel.

Review 45:The rooms and the food were excellent.Staff were great breakfast excellent and enjoyed our stay.

Review 46:Access (roads in the area are almost impassibly narrow), the bed drooped on one side and was uncomfortable, the rooms (bathroom in particular) were small.

Review 47:The seclusion, the building, the sympathetic upgrades to the building, the staff, the food, ambience - the atmosphere was great.

Review 48:The isolation. It was a drive, along single track roads in the main, to any other restaurants than the hotel, sadly. The food in the hotel was excellent but pricey, and not necessarily what you want every day.

Review 49:Just half a mile walk from a lovely beach, with facilities, pub and cafe. Great for families and quite lovely for mature couples like us.

Review 50:Noticed a smell like damp carpet in the carpeted area of the house. While clean, our bathroom at first smelled of cleaning fluids which were overpowering. This faded after a few hours. The room had no airflow even with the window opened. Minor things.

Review 51:Gorgeous location with lots of natural beauty. Comfortable lounge and bar. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the very clean ,airy restaurant. Staff warm, friendly and helpful.

Review 52:Only one very minor thing annoyed us: The fitted kitchenette provided knives, forks and spoons, but had empty cupboards that could house some useful plates, tumblers, kitchen roll etc; (all missing). Also mugs please; not just very small cups and saucers.

Review 53:We loved the secluded location, and the fact that it was only a short walk from the beach and several wonderful cliff walks. We loved our 'cottage' annex, and the food; excellent food! Also the staff were friendly. accomodating and polite.

Review 54:On arriving in the room my 13 year old daughter found a pair on women's black underwear on the seat, told staff, but nothing could be done apart from talking with cleaner which is why I put poor for cleanliness? No wifi.

Review 55:Good location if you want quietness, very good food.

Review 56:What great staff! So helpful! A charming building full of nooks and crannies, so much character. Not too far from the beach and lots of other places nearby to visit.

Review 57:Everything was perfect for us.

Review 58:Friendly owner and staff Location Food Rustique Live music Isolation from WiFi, Sky TV and Mobile signal giving complete tranquillity.

Review 66:Great staff, loved the charm of the inn, the bar and restaurant were outstanding.

Review 67:Reception area very scruffy and untidy, rather off putting.

Review 68:Nice quiet room, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Review 69:stairs to upper rooms plumbing paper thin walls, could hear guests next door a la carte menu pricey

Review 84:Food was great. I just prefer a big dinner rather than gourmet style.

Review 85:Breakfast was great The location is very peaceful

Review 86:Kitchen advertised, fridge, sink and microwave only. Need own equipment. No wifi in cottage. No phone signal.

Review 110:location and restaurant are great, worth visiting restaurant (even without staying in the hotel). Location is five minutes from Tintangel that is very comfortable!

Review 111:Our room was fine & comfortable but probably needs a revamp in time.

Review 112:The food was excellent. We both enjoyed our evening meal & breakfast which was beautifully presented. Thankyou.

Review 113:Nothing really. WiFi patchy but this is to be expected in a rural valley location.

Review 114:The whole team were welcoming and the room was lovely. A comfy vintage bed with quality duvet and pillows. Very generous bathroom with corner bath and shower over which looked recently fitted and was lovely and clean. Food was excellent and well priced. We took advantage of Paupers night and Steak night as well as the excellent breakfast. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg was especially good and we loved the slate plates. A short walk to a beautiful cove too.

Review 115:There wasnt anything we didnt like

Review 116:Location Aunthenticity Ambience Peaceful and the food, especially breakfast and the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon...and the beer was cold.

Review 117:Just check your GPS navigator does not take you on the option of a very narrow lane to arrive. Take the main road! There is one.

Review 118:Good food, pleasant staff, lovely quiet setting. The beds were so comfortable we stayed a second night. It was a great place to relax.

Review 119:furniture in Room 1 was tired, bed was too soft & no proper shower

Review 120:Very dog friendly, dogs allowed in the bar where the restaurant quality food was served. Excellent food. Staff were friendly and bar had a pleasant atmosphere.

Review 121:Thought it was odd they took payment with initial booking and stated no refund or cancellation. In our 40 days on the road that was a first

Review 122:Very nice location Good food
